These guys are the real deal at a very affordable price. We hired them on two consecutive days to pack up our large 2 bedroom apt with lots of large furniture, and then the next day to move across town and unpack it into a 3-story condo. They showed up right on time on both occasions, were friendly, and very time-efficient with their work. They disassembled our large furniture and put it back together correctly in the new place, and they packed all items securely. They placed all the furniture in the new place where we asked them to quickly and efficiently. During the course of the move, some minor accidental damage was done to two items (this can happen with ANY movers, even if they're being careful), and instead of pretending nothing was wrong (I would never have noticed), they immediately brought it to my attention, and made good on the damaged items that day. As the move was finishing, two guys out of the 4-man crew had to leave early to get to another job, and they adjusted the charges accordingly without me saying anything, rather than continuing to charge the 4-man rate. These guys are definitely honest and straightforward. Aaron, the owner, is fantastic, and always returns calls promptly if he can't answer his phone on the spot, and stands behind his work 100%. They also accept credit cards (including Amex), which is a plus. We've had other moving experiences in the past in NYC, and this was BY FAR our best experience with a moving company. When the time comes in a few years for us to move from this condo (probably to NYC), we will absolutely be going with Up and Down. 5 big stars. Very highly recommended. read more

I recently hired Up & Down Movers for a move in state, about an hour away. They ended up being two hours late because of traffic, but Aaron kept me in the loop the whole time, and was a smart businessman in that he apologized and gave me a discount. Also, I don't even think he was supposed to do the move (some of his employees were) but he came when he was supposed to be done for the day, which I appreciated a lot. Free time is precious, and his willingness to sacrifice that was impressive! Also, he and his assistant, Grant, were funny and pleasant; they helped me do some "interior decorating" and were sweet with my mom. Both men were also really agreeable about moving around my furniture; I changed my mind about placement a couple of times. Finally, Aaron went out of his way to fix my kitchen table, which was a little unstable. I would consider hiring them again! My only hesitation is that some of my walls got dings in the paint during the move, and other reviewers say they were charged $75 an hour while I was charged more. It's probably inevitable to get scratches during a move of large furniture items, but still, I wasn't thrilled about that. Also, maybe my rate was higher because of what items I was moving and the distance, but I wonder what that discrepancy is about. Overall, I have good things to say about Up & Down Movers and appreciated their work. Thanks, Aaron and Grant! read more

Up and Down movers was by far the best moving experience I have had. I have a very large, 5 bedroom home, with a basement and attic that needed moving. Up and Down sent 2 trucks and 5 guys. They loaded, drove 45 min and unloaded all in under 8 hours. This is nothing short of unbelievable in my mind. Particularly given that a different company quoted my 2 days to move and quoted me $1,000 more. The movers for Up and Down did not diddle-daddle while on the clock, they did not take "smoking breaks" or waste time chatting, honestly they barely took a break to eat (we had to force them to stop for 15 minutes to eat!). When we hit the 7 hours mark, some of the movers were still literally running with boxes in order to keep the total time under 8hrs. This was, of course, careful running, but the effort on their part was very evident nonetheless (this was a hard-working and non-complaining bunch). Most importantly of all, the 5 guys were very courteous and kind to my wife and mother-in law who were directing them. Also, they were gentle with our belongings, as far as I know nothing was broken during the move (we just moved last week). I would give these guys my highest recommendation and will use them again. read more

My friends and I used Up & Down Movers to move our belongings from three apartments into one Uhaul truck. We were anticipating this to be a task that takes awhile, since the movers had to go to three different locations and none of them had elevators. However, these movers exceeded our expectations in every way. The process of booking the movers was very easy (thanks Aaron!) via phone then email. Despite our constant changes in regards to start time, date, and number of men we wanted, Aaron was courteous through it all and made accommodations without complaint. He also emailed a confirmation the night before per my request. On the day of the move, we got a call about 15 minutes before our start time, with the movers letting us know they were almost there. They showed up right on time and got to work right away. All of us were astonished at how quickly they moved without breaking anything - we ended up finishing all three apartments in ONE AND A HALF HOURS, which is incredible. These guys (I so wish I remembered their names) were so courteous and were by far the easiest movers I've ever worked with. The total cost, including a generous tip, came out to be very reasonable. I highly recommend them! read more

I hired Up & Down Movers last year in August 2014 to move a couch and a dresser from Branford to Bridgeport. I was going to move them myself but, the dresser was too heavy! I called and was told to go online and fill out a moving request form. I then received an email confirmation. The moving crew arrived at exactly the time they said they would. Two guys with a good size truck. My doorway was kind of narrow and I was concerned that they would not be able to fit the couch through. They confidently said "if it was able to get inside my apartment, they will be able to get it out". They sure enough did and without breaking a sweat. I gave them the delivery address and they arrived at my new place before I did. They unloading the couch and dresser and brought it into my new apartment. I was impressed with their delicate touch with handling such large items. They definitely pick up and put down things carefully as their motto states. I paid them and was given an invoice and a business card. The experience was so good, I had to email the owner to let him know what a great job the moving guys did. I would hire them again in a heart beat. Trust me, You will not be disappointed. read more

On May 31st I had an appointment to move with Up and Down. At the very last minute they canceled and Aaron referred me to another moving company based out of Hartford, but I needed movers in New Haven. Since it was a very popular day, I put my faith in the company that they referred me to because I didn't really have any choice at that point, everyone else was already committed to other customers. To my surprise, the other moving company also ditched me after I waited several more hours. So I was scrambling to find replacement movers who were not only available on one of their busiest days, but also local, and most importantly credible. This was not an easy task and I was very anxious and stressed the entire day. I was penalized by my building because I did not move out on time. I did end up finding someone else but the service cost me more money than I wanted to pay, plus I had to pay my building for extending my lease. It turned into a very costly day for me and I attribute my anxiety and stress as well as the extra money I spent that day because of Aaron and Up and Down Movers. read more

Everything about our move was made smoother, faster and easier by Jerry and Terrance. They were 5 minutes early and came with furniture pads, plastic wrap and dollies (which they didn't even need), were incredibly polite, careful with all of our stuff, didn't need to take a single break despite the heat and the 3 flights of stairs they were going up down, they asked all the questions about what was fragile, which things we wanted to me moved where, etc., that I wanted them to know about our stuff, but mostly didn't need us and we could clean and do other things without worrying about supervising or helping out in any way. They moved our 3rd floor (large) 1 bedroom (with A LOT of books and heavy kitchen stuff) into a first floor garage space in 3 hours flat. A move that would have taken us all day had we even been able to lift and fit some of the large furniture down our winding stairs... They were awesome. For $105 an hour plus tip, they were worth every penny! I'll be using Up and Down the next time I need movers without a doubt. Thanks again Jerry and Terrance! read more

Rock and his coworkers were amazing! After taking 7+ painful and sweaty hours to load our 1 bedroom apartment into a 15 ft Uhaul, my boyfriend and I decided to see if we could get movers for unloading the next day. Up & Down called me back within an hour and were able to fit us in bright and early the next day. They were so friendly and helpful on the phone. Rock and his crew arrived right on time and started unloading right away. They were so efficient, not to mention fun to talk to! I was amazed to see them unload the entire truck in an hour!! They were very careful throughout the process, and although we lost a crappy Ikea bookshelf and couldn't fit this monster of wardrobe down our narrow basement steps, I was 100% impressed with their expertise. Rock even had great moving advice for future moves (such as shrink wrapping cheap Ikea furniture before a move to prevent breaking) and life in New Haven. Rock quickly wrote up an invoice, and I was more than happy to pay the $260 + tips (they more than deserved it!). Would highly recommend!!! read more

By chance, my husband worked beside Up and Down Movers as he installed Dish and as they moved the client in. We looked them up for our own move and we couldn't be happier with them! I was feeling so anxious about our move - we lived on a third floor apartment and we have a lot of heavy books. All our friends have various back issues or injuries and I was dreading asking them for help with our move. It was SUCH a relief when we hired Up and Down. They were prompt, courteous, friendly, and very professional. They never stopped moving - up and down those evil stairs all day long. They worked SO hard. We had to take two trips to the new house and they worked a full 8 hours to get it done. TOTALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY. I was really impressed with how they packed the moving van each time - there was no air space. They handled our possessions with care and nothing was damaged. Thank you SO much for all your hard work and for helping us move into our new home! read more

I had two excellent experiences with Aaron and his crew after I recalled that my late mother had used their services. She only raved about Up & Down, which is why I readily requested these awesome gentlemen for an unexpected relocation and then a methodically planned relocation. I was not disappointed, either. They were efficient, respectful, friendly, upbeat and affordable. I want to emphasize that nothing was damaged! They were always careful with my belongings. Both times I paid between $300 and $350 for 3 hours---wow, thank you! Being on SSD is sometimes rough, and the previous moving company I'd regrettably used had cheated me to the hilt. Thankfully, these stellar movers were responsible for renewing my faith in the human race as I did not have a single problem with their handiwork, attitude or fees. Whether you have a studio apartment or a small house to pack and maneuver to another location, I'd strongly recommend Up & Down Movers. read more

We hired Up & Down Movers for a local pack and move on 5/23/17 in New Haven based on some Yelp reviews we read, and also that they quoted the lowest price of the three other movers we contacted. They were fantastic! Everybody we dealt with at Up & Down provided excellent customer service throughout, including accommodating two changes to our move date. When it turned out that the packing would require more time than had been expected, they added one more crewman and powered through until 11 PM at night to finish packing AND moving on the same day. And even with all that, the final bill was totally reasonable, and in fact much less than we feared it might be given all the extra hours. Big shout out to Aaron but especially Terrence, Will, and Terrence B. for your professionalism and quick, steady work given a long job. You never flagged and we thank you! Would definitely recommend this company to anyone. read more

So I have to thank Up and Down Movers for getting my things here. These were the best movers I've ever dealt with. My moving plans were so chaotic and totally unorganized and I probably changed plans 5 times, but Aaron the owner was very accommodating, patient and courteous with me. When his workers showed up they were not annoyed with me or rushing with my belongings, even after I gave them the wrong address. They were kind and fast and they made my day even complimented my kid. Everyone completely acted as if I wasn't the nightmare client and that says a lot because I truly was. They did a wonderful job and made a rough transition for me a little less stressed. I am going to be recommending them to my brother who may be moving soon. It is not easy to impress me but they did. Thank you Up and Down Movers! read more

Had an incredible experience with Up and Down movers! When I initially called, the man on the phone was so patient when answering all of my questions. He explained the process, pricing, and options to me. He was very friendly and honest (no hidden fees; very upfront). Both Grant and James from Up & Down Movers moved me into a storage unit and were extremely friendly, methodological, organized, and fast!!! They were motivated to finish the job and didn't waste any time! Not only did they call me 30 minutes before arrival but they were on time and ready to move! They also took the time to carefully wrap my furniture, were careful when moving, and used several moving blankets. I will absolutely book with Up & Down Movers again in the Fall. No glitches in my move and absolutely exceeded my expectations! read more

I hired Up and Down Movers to get my daughters things from Hartford to Canton. Will and his partner were amazing! They let me know approximately what time they would arrive and then got right to work. It was about 85 degrees and 100% humidity and these poor guys had to trek up and down 3 flights of stairs, but they never stopped! They quickly arrived at the new location and had the truck unloaded in record time (less steps!). Will even had some feng shui advice on where to place the dining set. I had called several moving companies for estimates and Up and Down Movers had the most reasonable and realistic estimate for my needs. In addition they got back to me the same day. Some other companies waited a week to return my call. Thanks for making this move smooth and painless! read more

What else can one ask for? Quick move, reasonable price, professional? I was moving from my apartment to a house. We were only having large pieces of furniture moved because our apartment had way too many stairs to try and navigate. Called up and down movers for a quote of 12 pieces of furniture. Price couldn't have been better, plus they had the least minimum of everywhere I called. ( Most places wanted 4 hours. I was only moving the furniture 2 towns over, it wasn't going to take that long) Originally our appointment was scheduled for 4 pm on a Sunday. Earlier that morning I received a call asking if we wanted to have the movers come even earlier. Of course! So they showed up, asked where the items were , set up a plan and got to work. Nothing broken, no nicks. Very satisfied. read more

We used Up & Down Movers last weekend to move from a three-level house to an apartment. Needless to say, we had way more stuff than three people should ever have, but these guys were absolutely phenomenal. They were on time and incredibly fast - three and a half hours and the job was done, and for a more than fair price. It was honestly impressive; they had a mastermind who organized the truck like a shipping container, while 4 guys quickly shuffled our metric tonne of crap out of the house. We had some oversized items that we were convinced wouldn't even make it out of our old house, and they hauled them like it was nothing with no damage to our furniture. Can't speak highly enough about these guys and their professionalism - you're crazy to choose anyone else! read more

Aaron and Will saved my a** today. It was a holiday. I had to move a bunch of crap out of two different locations. Had my own Uhaul but was otherwise totally ill-prepared. I had no friends available to help me on very short notice. Enter Up and Down Movers - Aaron and Will actually made me laugh and made me feel totally relaxed during the whole process (feeling relaxed on a moving day is kind of unheard of!). They were warm, down to earth, and otherwise totally AWESOME at getting the job done in record time and with no fuss. They didn't even make me feel bad that not all my boxes were taped shut (and not all of my boxes were in fact legit boxes). In fact, they put me completely at ease and took care of everything. Thanks, guys - you were fantastic! read more

Up and down Movers has been great from the beginning to the very end! I received an answer immediately when I contacted them regarding my move to another state. The company manager was efficient and courteous all along. When the big day came, the movers were perfectly on time, they worked efficiently, taking care of all our belongings, finding the time to be pleasant and nice with us. They were ahead of schedule and left immediately for a ten hours drive. We met them at our new apartment at the hour we had decided and, again, they worked super efficiently, taking extra-care of our belongings, whereas they had to climb several flights of stairs. I HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a fast, professional, and affordable moving. read more

I wrote this exact quote on Google, but it really sums up my experiences. I have used Up & Down a few times now, and I am always happy with the service these guys provide. I have moved small, apartment-sized loads to an assisted living place and back, and also moved some older furniture and contents out of one house, to another location and a storage unit. Even when moving an old, cast iron parlor stove, these guys took great care and worked together to get everything to its destination, unharmed. Aaron Emery (owner) is the best, and am so glad I found him and his crew. They have always been respectful and caring, and work in a timely manner. Their quotes have been fair, and their work impeccable. I would recommend them for any move, of any size. read more
