Would not recommend - it's a good value (cheapest movers we found), but you get what you pay for. Very poor customer service. I spoke to Kareem on multiple occasions prior to the move. He kept asking me to change our pickup day and time. Each time I told him I couldn't change my plans. He could have simply told me it didn't work for them, but each time he'd say OK and I would confirm the day, time, and location of pickup at the end of the conversation. Then the next day he'd ask me to change it up again. When the day finally arrived, he texted me at 6:45 am and told me they were going to be almost 3 hours earlier than the scheduled time. Again, at no point did he disclose there was a pickup window. He had confirmed our appointment on multiple occasions. It almost ruined the whole process because we were picking up our item from friends, so I couldn't just randomly change the plan with no notice. Kareem was rude to me on the phone when I called him about this and said "things change". Then he billed me an invoice for our balance due before the job was done and texted me about payment. ABSOLUTELY AVOID. Kareem--"The Spin Doctor" as another review called him--is a menace. I figured that one bad review was just a result of someone having a bad day. Not sure if Kareem or the customer, but someone. It seemed to be an outlier. Surely with 4+ star rating means I'll get a decent experience. Kareem was my primary contact and who I arranged the move with. I sent videos ahead of time to show the job to be done. Kareem did not ask questions. I got a quote and decided to see what I can get done on my own with family to save money. Economy sucks, yadda, yadda. I came back and explained how we did some ourselves and there's less work to do now. I explained what was left. Kareem did not ask questions. I then asked for an hourly rate. I was given one, and we both agreed on the job. I paid the deposit. A few days later, the movers arrive (Kareem absent), and they were not informed at all of what the job was today. They also kept making comments about me being "on a budget" or something and being shocked when I explained the scope of the move. I felt Kareem fed them some nonsense instead of details about the actual job. The movers were fine, but their leader wasn't. 2 hours into the job, Kareem calls me and accuses me of trying to pull a fast one by going hourly (why offer hourly rates and accept hourly jobs if it's an issue?), misleading him about the job (how??), and saying men could walk off the job with my actions. What did I do? Was it that I sent videos and a description of the move? Was it that I agreed to the rate and crew he presented me? What could I have done worth men driving the crew to walk off the job? The entire call was very aggressive and backhanded. Absolutely asinine. Thankfully, Kareem didn't feed them enough nonsense for them to actually walk off, and so they completed the job... mostly. It was scaled back because Kareem apparently REALLY didn't want it all done. Maybe because he didn't send enough manpower despite knowing the job. At the end of the move, Kareem told the movers to collect payment. Now, this is completely reasonable. What's not reasonable is me not knowing the exact amount until minutes before yet being expected to have that money exactly on hand, and giving me an invoice from day 1 (updated at the end of move, via email) that has a due date in the future. I talk to Kareem again, and he says he needs payment immediately. Again, would be fair, if all signs didn't point elsewhere. I said the invoice gives a future date, and he blamed ME for it, saying I should have corrected him and he'd have fixed the invoice. I can't read his mind. I didn't know he made a mistake. I said I will pay, but I don't have the cash on me at this exact moment, and explain why as described above. He immediately gives me the shake down and jumps to aggression again, accusing me of playing games, etc... He skips actually trying to resolve the issue and instead threatens to call the cops. I offer to get the money from the bank immediately, but somehow he's still arguing with me about that. Apparently immediate payment isn't even good enough now. And he's going to have the movers follow me to the bank. What is this? Is knowing where I live not good enough that you need to aggressively "escort" me to the bank? Thankfully, The Spin Doctor backed off when he got his money. The crew themselves were mostly fine (if not a bit slow checking their phones at times--almost assuredly because of Kareem's failures in communication, or worse, Kareem harassing the crew?) and one item being damaged/broken. Again, avoid at all costs. I hope the men actually doing the work get a better gig because Kareem has no business managing workers or handling customers and his presence alone is good enough to write off the company. His communication skills are beyond abysmal and he went out of his way to insult me. It's a shame he's the owner. If my things weren't already on their truck by the time he called me the first time, I would've canceled and got someone else. Avoid yourself the frustration of dealing with The Spin Doctor and look elsewhere. ========== EDIT: Got a reply from Kareem. I can't address it all else I hit the character limit but here are the biggest parts: - Trying to save money is not a "red flag." - Kareem was shown the job ahead of time, and agreed to take it. - Yet his crew came unprepared and somehow it's my fault they were undermanned and had no gloves??? - I'm not obligated to tip or cater and I never agreed to (compensate your crew! I already paid!), but maybe I'd have tipped if Kareem didn't harass me, threaten to call the cops, change terms of payment, or the crew didn't break our things. Remember to listen the bad reviews. It's easy to leave a good review, but when you want to get it over with an forget about it, it's not tempting to take the time to explain your bad experience. I spoke to Kareem and he was very professional and had me take pictures of my large furniture as well as the stairs in my apartment to come up with a quote for his team to move me to my new home. When the guys arrived they were so friendly, professional and made me feel comfortable. They took apart my furniture, packed the truck, unloaded and reassembled everything in my new house. Moving is such a daunting task. All the concerns, to-dos, scheduling and of course, selecting movers. I did a ton of research and got 4 detailed quotes from people visiting both homes with very specific concerns. For example, we were moving to a home that is 140 years old and has the woodwork, banisters, molding etc to prove it. Making sure my "new" home wasn't trashed along with my belongings was paramount concern. I came across Kareem Osborne, owner operator of Absolute Packers and noticed that his company had one of the highest ratings on Yelp among other sites. I gave him a call and he answered on a Sunday and offered to do a virtual walk through then and there. Now I know this is going to sound crazy but his estimate was actually the most reasonable I had received, so much so I had concerns that he hadn't taken into account all the pieces of my move. I asked him to come out and do a walk through of both locations and all my items including tons of art, several very large TVs and a baby grand Piano. He didn't hesitate and offered to stop by my house that day. After a physical walk through he said his price was solid and here's the unbelievable part, I encouraged him to charge me more. Yes, I wanted him and his team highly motivated and I asked him to personally oversee the move. He said it wasn't necessary but he wouldn't refuse more money. The other thing I asked him to do was to speak with my wife who was also very concerned in general about moving and she wanted to make sure we pick the right movers. Not only did he speak with her but challenge of all challenges he convinced her that he and his company could move us stress free. Kareem and his team were no less than fantastic. I mean that in every possible way. On time, professional, kind, patient, treated both homes and our stuff like it was their own. They packed up items safely, delivered them gently, cared where things went and ensured we were happy with where things went. They did unpacking as well. Since it was a multi day regional move they made sure we had essentials at the new house (coffee machine, bedding, toiletries). The bottom line is you can't teach those things to employees they either get it or they don't. I should mention it was sweltering the entire moving time, no one complained, no one went MIA. Everyone just worked. Not to mention his team were guys you'd want to grab a beer with and shoot the breeze. Super friendly and kind. Kareem had a big crew, Aaron, Rasheed, Curtis, Efrain, Darrell, Keith and Tay. I will tell you without hesitation, 1) I am a real person who just completed a very big move 3900 Sq ft to a 4600 Sq home. 2) Kareem's reviews are 100% legit, he and his company are absolutely (pun intended) amazing and you should hire them any time you need to move. Had issues with the POD being unable to open & a mysterious lock - they were able to address both those concerns along with navigating the move in between painters. I needed movers to help move my mom from Stratford to Stamford. I look through YELP and Absolute Packers appeared and after reading the reviews I decided to give them a call. I left a message and was called back rather quickly. I explained the move at the furniture being moved. They had me scheduled within days of my phone call. The day of the move the truck showed up on time with 3 men for the move. These men were very polite and friendly. Watching them work taking time to wrap everything and load it on the truck. These 3 men worked like a well oiled machine. Within the hour they had my mom's item packed and loaded and on their way to my destination. Kareem and his team were incredible. I have moved far more than like, and this was by and far the easiest it has ever been. Pre-move I spoke a few times with Kareem who walked me through his process, explained day of stuff then provided a quote (which he stuck to!). He also answered questions via email and text leading up to moving day, and called the night before to confirm. Moving day- they were on time, and ready to work! It was 90 degrees everyone was hustling. They loaded from a 3br condo and offsite storage until in about 2.5 hours. Everything was wrapped and well protected- and because of that nothing was broken in the process. Unloading was efficient as well as the team worked just as hard. Ever with a 40 minute travel time, the whole thing was about 6 hours. I never want to move again, but if I do will most definitely call Absolute Packers...will Absolutely call Absolute packers (yay for puns). Seriously though, just make the call. read more

Sadly, I had a negative experience with Absolute. Let me start with the positive: they are inexpensive. But, there are _so_ many cons. See below. Look elsewhere if you can... The cons: (1). [Left me high and dry]. My building requires insurance. I flagged this for Kareem on our first interaction, and I provided him with details. Kareem assured me that they had the insurance needed to move into my building. However, three days before my move, that he did not have the required insurance. Kareem never apologized for leaving me "high and dry". (2). [Failed to complete the job]. Kareem simply did not pack up all of the items they promised to do. I spent several hours packing up items that they "ran out of time" to do. (3). [Tried to renegotiate the terms]. Kareem agreed, in writing, several times, to move my piano as part of the quote. When he arrived, he said that it was "not possible" to move the piano...then tried to charge me extra for moving it (4). [Used bad boxes]. All of the boxes Kareem used were used (yay for being environmentally friendly!), but some were torn / broken / not suitable. I worry that it will damage my stuff during the move. (5). [Left my items unattended on a busy street in New Haven]. Pretty self explanatory! But not cool! (6). [Did not deliver on his promised boxes]. Because of (2), I ended up having to pack myself. Kareem promised to leave boxes for me to do this packing...but he simply didn't. When I asked, at the end of the job, if he had any extra boxes, he simply walked away. (7). [Rude]. More generally, interacting with Kareem was an extremely unpleasant experience. He never apologized for any of his mistakes...he was extremely slow in confessing that he did not have the required insurance. read more
