Two Brothers Moving - My Crew who did a most excellent job! - Movers Near Me - Middletown, Connecticut

Moving day can be stressful and not having a well planned estimate will cause issues. We were quoted $1,300 - $1500 for two men and a half day. We were asked to send pictures of all our items so they can fine-tune the estimate and make sure they are properly prepared to meet the customers' needs. We followed their request and sent pictures of EVERY item to be moved. Subsequent to sending the pictures the estimator said that after reviewing the photos he would like to add an additional man and increase the time based on his review of the photos. Their proposal was increased slightly ($1,500 - $1,700) (we had no issues with the request), and we awaited their arrival on moving day. Moving day came the workers on the truck were very nice. However mid-way through moving things went south fast. The workers broke an expensive glass bar cart and called to inform their home office. The original estimator then called to say we had more stuff than anticipated and the truck was full. The stuff was exactly what was in the one dozen photos sent two weeks prior to the move. These photos contained all the furniture and all of boxes that we had packed for the move. He then proceeded to state that we "didn't inform them there were boxes to move" (a complete lie). We calmly said two of the pictures sent to you (which the workers on site actually had on their cell phones) have a stack of boxes in the family room and another from the garage. He said well, "people move their boxes themselves sometimes'". Our response was simply questioning why we would have sent the pictures, at their request, if we intended to move them on our own. After arriving at 11:05 and deciding they were done at 5:30 sharp, the movers left over 20% of the remaining contents. They said they needed to move what they have in the truck and "they would come back the next day", but we would be getting another quote for the remaining move. When I questioned the additional quote the gentleman from the home office then revised it talk track to say he would not be able to insure he could come back tomorrow (Saturday, knowing the house was being sold) and stated and he would do it in 3 days (past the date of the house being sold) but the quote had to be signed to get on a possible schedule. He carried on saying "couldn't disrupt his clients already on tomorrows schedule". I guess its OK to disrupt a client by leaving 20% of the job behind. His quote for completing the move arrived the next day and the move would now be almost double the original price! Needless to say we quickly found an honest and reputable company for less than 1/2 of the additional quote from Two Movers. Two days later they sent a final bill for $800.00 more than his revised estimate, bringing the total moving cost to more than twice their original estimated when added to the additional mover we had to hire. We informed them of their error in number of hours billed, and reminded them they didn't complete the job, and that they broke the bar cart. Their response was that the bar cart isn't covered as they were not specifically informed of it in the move list, but they would give me $50.00 for it even though it was included in the pictures we had sent which prompted them to increase the original estimate. They said any items not specifically "written" on the contact were not their liability! The reality is they received pictures of all the items being moved, they double checked those photos well enough to increase the estimate to include an additional man. While we hope for a fair resolution that accurately accounts for actual hours worked and the damage to the property they caused, we have so far not heard back from them revising their billing or received any apology for the distasteful experience Update : The owner called apologized for the stress and miscommunications and we settled on a fair amount for the work they did The owner was very nice and concerned about our experience and perception of his office staff because it's not what the majority of his customers experience according to him My advice ask a lot of questions and list as many of your bigger or more expensive/delicate items upfront so you can openly discuss how they will be handled. We had the most horrible experience with this moving company. Their driver had a car accident and was cited for distracted driving. As a result, they significantly damaged 90% of our hardwood and heirloom furniture and then proceeded to damage our new home and left most of the damaged furniture behind. We now have the cost of removal and replacement, and they accept zero responsibility. They did not offer an apology nor compensation for our significant loss. I will preface that I DID NOT use them for my move. I used them to bid on my move. I was shocked to see that they wanted me to pay 80% of the move prior to moving day! For providing no services yet! And they refuse to come in person to bid on the job. (every other mover I considered came in person to my home) I felt they would not have an adequate handle on the scope of the job or see the specific furniture that needs special care. The salesman/estimator was great at communicating by phone and with follow-up - but I would never hire a person who I never met and just hope they show up on moving day after I paid them all that money! I recently used Two Brothers moving to move my daughter from her apartment to a house. The 2 guys that helped us move were outstanding! Not only were they extremely professional but they were really nice guys as well. They had all the right equipment, protected the floors and furniture and make it look seamless. They took all the stress away from us and made it look easy even though I know how hard they worked. Maurice, James and Handy from Two Brothers moved my daughter today, from a second floor apartment to my home. I cannot say enough good things about them and the company as a whole. Every detail was covered with us before the move, nothing left to guess. We were moving out of state, and needed a moving company to help us out. I reached out on Yelp and the owner of Two Brothers Moving, Christopher, called me immediately. He went over all specs with me and quoted me a decent price and the service was locked in right away as we were on a small time crunch. Day of, the moving company guys showed up on time and got us moved to our destination in good time. The guys, Maurice and his team, were super professional and very accommodating and we were very happy with the service that we received. They made our state to state move seamless and worry free, to be honest. I do recommend that you please review the service contract in full when booking services so it's known when and what you will be charged. We hired Two Brothers Moving for a move from Portland to New London. I have moved into the past without movers, but after working with Chris and his team on this latest transition, I'll never DIY a move again. Plus, I definitely know I can confidently use Two Brothers and have recommended them to others without hesitation! I'm a very organized person and was prepared to meet Chris with my room-by-room, color coded, prioritized list for the initial walk-through of our home. Usually, I feel like that level of organization overwhelms people, but Chris understood. This was not a typical move. We were selling our home to move into an already mostly-furnished family property. That meant our buyer was getting a lot of our furniture, some smaller items and boxes were being moved slowly ourselves, others were being donated, and really favored furniture pieces were to be moved by the Two Brothers team. Chris didn't break a sweat at this. He went room by room with my husband and I and talked it all over so that he could get us a quote, which he did quickly. The price was completely affordable and fair, and having this huge chunk of moving tasks off my plate was a relief. It was so worth it to have professionals take over while wrangling our 2 dogs, cat, and infant son for this move. Chris was easy to reach and in contact prior to and on moving day. The level of communication really put us at ease, this is a reliable crew. Three members of his team showed up promptly on time and they couldn't have been friendlier or more professional. They were ready to work and did so non-stop! They took their time securing our items for a safe transfer between locations and I really appreciated feeling like they truly respected that these weren't just "things" they were moving, but literally our life and home! Upon arriving in New London the team motored on. It was a challenge that they mastered, our new home had entry through several stairs or a steep driveway. Items getting stored in a shed required a long walk, and others going to the lower than average basement meant some crouching. I didn't envy the job but I did envy the effort!! They do what they promise and don't add unexpected or unreasonable charges for the last-minute minor changes. Their packing service was excellent. Their hourly fee was a little more than the other local movers I contacted; they are worth it because you can trust them. They respond promptly (via txt, email and cell). Do not use this company. I was quoted $300 an hour for four men and a moving truck . I sent pictures of the massive amounts of belongings I had so they would have an idea of how much wrapping packing and moving they would have to do and sent pictures of my very old steep stairs . With one dresser I was told they would need to lower it down from the porch . Fine . They came very late due to a personal problem. Fine . It took them 8 hours to pack and load my things . Fine . One guy had to leave early , so now there is 3 . Fine . They have to come back a second day , and I needed to drop another $800 for a "new" contract for day two . Fine . Right ? What can I do ? I should have been worried having paid in full before the job was done . On day two , I am at work and allowed the moving guys to come and go as they needed from both houses . I get a call about where some things need to go in the new house , when I am told that they left my only dresser to my 8 piece bedroom set behind , and would NOT be going back to get it . The OWNER Chris , told me that I should have told them that they would need ropes and a blanket to lower the dresser over the balcony . This is day two and they should have thought to bring the tools they needed to move my furniture. Then the owner accused me of agreeing to wanting to leave my dresser behind and buy a new one . I went to the old house , because I was so upset , and they also did not move any objects from my kitchen , so at 65 years old I am now moving my microwave and boxes out to my car . The owner said " this is why we need a final walkthrough ". And I asked " why wasn't I offer one ". And he said that I was offered one and refused . I had been talking to employees and the owner all day and no one offer a walkthrough. I now have to HIRE a second moving company to finish the job after paying full price for a move that was not finished !!! The new company will go and get my dresser today . The OWNER also accused me of not packing my things well enough , and that took extra time . He accused me of saying I wanted to leave my dresser behind . He accused me of not having the insight to tell his employees to bring a rope and a blanket for the second day that they were at my house . He said I should have known better . I could not recommend this company to anyone who likes their furniture. Our items were moved without any protection even though the move came with free furniture pads (they were NOT used). Our dining table was placed flat against the bottom of the truck and was covered in deep gauges - completely ruined. Our mahogany bed was not padded either and the deep scratches and discolorations are too many to count. I'm not even mentioning the damage to additional items like nightstands and dressers. We even provided the movers with moving wrap for the furniture - none was used. Two of the movers were actually very careful and professional, but unfortunately, the third was so careless he managed to create all of this damage. If Dan shows up at your doorstep, cancel immediately, or you'll be stuck buying all new stuff. read more

I want to commend Chris for hiring the best guys in the world. From the start, they were friendly and efficient. They moved like lightening, yet managed to handle every item with care. I should have known better when I read their responses to every single problem the customers had. Never see any regrets or sorry for the wrong doings or mishaps they might be a part of the problem. That in itself is a big red flag. But the "quote" seem reasonable so here I am. If you can handle mo-like kind of people then you might be ok. But if you are nice decent person then beware. I just paid whatever they wanted at the end because fighting with them felt like they can come to your home and do you harm. I don't bother to list of bait and switch quote, make up charges, unprofessional, unskilled, low IQ and confused movers, carelessness with your items and your floor, almost none existing packing materials.... because they will come up with all how it is my fault. good luck. read more

we had to cancel last minute as we are senior citizens and ran into a problem. They would not return our deposit. They told us that It would take 6 to 8 hours to move 3 rooms of furniture. They ensured that my furniture was well packed and taped prior to moving and also extremely careful around doorways. I know it seems like I'm too picky on minor details but trust me those are the very reasons why most people end up with damaged furniture when they use lower quality moving companies. Also, You can directly communicate with Chris at any time and he'll get back to you in a timely manner. My reason for 4 stars and that's just my opinion is because they're expensive. I've used movers that are cheaper, maybe not the same quality as Two Brothers Moving, but still cheaper. Maybe this has to do with the region and cost of living in this area.
