Will consider editing this once move is hopefully completed tomorrow. I will be using a different moving company to get my stuff out of their storage unit. There is no self storage option by the way which Yelp seems not to know. 1. They accidentally double booked me. Innocent enough. Somehow it got lost in transit(??) that they were packing as well as moving. 2. I've moved multiple times with my same set of furniture and items and these were the slowest movers I've had by far. 3. They want to charge me $265 to "transport" my items from their warehouse in West Haven... onto the loading dock of their warehouse in West Haven. So basically $265 to be able to get my things back and have nothing to do with them ever again. read more

Very disappointed with this moving company. They were nice during the move and delivery but afterwards, we found large missing items and lots of broken dishes and glassware that they packed and we paid for. And the things I personally packed were not! I filled a claim at the beginning of this year(2025) and it's November...no response to my claim after they told me they will look into it ASAP. I haven't written a negative review before, but I want to warn other consumers against using this company's service. I hired Hands on Moving for partial packing, moving, and storage services. They "lost" my most expensive valuables, including large items such as a flat panel TV, computer, and printer that are not easy to "lose." Overall, they "lost" several dozen of my items, totaling more than $3000 in value. On top of that, many of my furniture items were delivered damaged, and several of my glass and ceramic items had shattered. I understand that sometimes belongings are damaged during a move, but I cannot understand how so many expensive items can be "lost." Do not hire this company. Read the other reviews. Individuals working for this company are stealing valuable items while they're in storage, and the company is hiding behind its 60 cents/pound insurance policy. Once I realized that my belongings were missing, I had to call and email the company many times before they responded to me to confirm that someone was looking for my belongings. They promised me that my items were "not gone forever." One week later, they told me that all of these items had been lost, and all they could do to compensate was offer me $92. Awful experience just like many others here - severely damaged/missing/dirtied and destroyed items, thousands of dollars lost, they did the most horrible job you can imagine - picture a nightmare move and you got it right here. Most things weren't protected/shrink wrapped properly I am writing a review here just to make sure no one else falls into the hands of these people unless they want all their stuff damaged and nothing reimbursed. You have to wonder how they are in business at all. No customer service afterwards either. They lead you on but nothing happens. Some people say they're not even a real company. If I could give ZERO stars I would, but unfortunately that is not an option. AVOID this moving company at all costs. I asked several times for a TV box, didn't bring one, then they tried saying I didn't ask for one even though it was documented. This resulted in them breaking our nearly $3k TV (1 year old) and won't do anything about it. They put a $2k ivory fabric bed frame into a filthy moving truck without wrapping it - turned black, and they damaged our new wooden dresser as well as it wasn't wrapped properly either, pieces of wood were chipped off. This was back in November and they haven't responded to any emails since December, they said the TV breaking was essentially my fault because I didn't watch the movers every single second they were there. All of this furniture was only one year old that we invested in to have for years to come and it was handled with such little care. Spoke to the business owner on the phone, he assured me he'd take care of my claim. Complete radio silence since, he's been cc'd on all emails and not a single reply. Avoid this company if you want to keep your furniture in tact. Not only are the movers terrible and careless but to run a business with zero customer service addressing claims and broken furniture is completely unacceptable. read more

The crew was personable and worked at a reasonable pace. However many pieces of furniture were gouged, scratched, or the fabric was torn. Worse, something of value to me went missing during the move. Moved me out of state so they picked up one day and delivered the next day. Booking was very easy - could do it all online and via email though when I did call I was able to speak to a human. They were on time. The price was very reasonable ESPECIALLY compared to the non local Companies that my job recommended that would have taken days to deliver my stuff. Do NOT let Hands on Moving and Storage get their hands on anything you value in your home! They moved my daughter's entire home from CT to Florida. I was by her side throughout. Almost every piece of furniture was damaged, including custom sofas and beds. The upholstery was literally sliced and torn on several pieces. Nothing was properly wrapped. One lacquer piece was set on its side, unprotected, on a gravel drive. After extensive documentation their in-house claims department, who we were not allowed to speak with no matter how many times we tried, told her that her claim would not be covered! Fortunately we pursued this with the actual insurer and had our claim paid - in excess of $10,000! Again, NEVER let them get their hands on anything you value. read more

My movers from CT, never took a dime, until they delivered everything. They did not,Ike my bad review, and said if I re wripote it, they would send a cashiers check? when and if I do receive the refund, then I will give them a better review,,They had four months cancellation notice, and it was due ypto a serious illness..any good compantpy, would honor this, and return the refund..Am still waiting, so we shall see..Should not take four months for a refund.. I am leaving 1 but 0 stars is what they deserve. So the movers showed up to my house high and smelling like marijuana. The movers broke the legs on my couch and threw them out, damage my headboard and both dressers, left behind a tote with all my pots. It took 4 months for me to receive compensation which was $76. I will never hire them again the young lady in the claims department is unprofessional and does not do her job the office manager even said it. I will not recommend customer service is horrible when your belongings are damaged but will call repeatedly to confirm your moving date. read more

Overall, I'd say my Hands On Moving experience was good. Their prices were competitive, and I think the team of four who came the day of our move worked very hard and speedily, including taking on some heavier furniture. The estimation of time was spot-on. However, there was some parts of the experience and outcome that were not optimal. I was surprised that none of our furniture was wrapped, even though when I put down money for the deposit and asked about wrapping furniture, they said the team would wrap furniture. Consequently, some of my wooden furniture has some new scratches in them, and I know they were not there before. Also, one of our door frames in our new apartment has noticable scratches; most of them can be painted over, but as a renter, this is not a great feeling getting into a new apartment. A lamp was broken as well, but the team leader immediately made note of it and docked $20 from the bill. Lastly, it was occasionally very tough to get information over the phone beforehand. Even though there's a receptionist of sorts, she couldn't answer my question about payment methods accepted, and I had to wait for a call (that I never received). I'm also still a little confused about the quote I received with the number of people. There wasn't much information about the inventory gathering process, which clearly impacted the quote. That said, Hands On has a very elaborate, comprehensive website, and I appreciated the ability to take care of so much or the website. The 3 movers were competent and careful. However they had no supplies with them. No tape no shrink wrap they had dollies but nothing else. Just 3 guys in a car. They did a good job wrapping the pieces with the blankets and tape we provided. They moved the items into a pod for a cross country move. Have not opened the pod in the destination location yet as it is in route. I will comment again when we unpack the pod at it's final destination. Hope everything survived. read more

I had an good experience with hands on moving. The two movers came on time and packed the entire truck really fast. None of my furniture had any damages. A few scratches here and there but that is to be expected when moving. I called about 8 other moving companies for quotes and hands on moving was able to give me the lowest price. Hands on was contracted through housing authority of NH and during that move my newborn daughters brand new crib was snapped in half and many other of my personal properties was stolen/damaged and now they have the nerve to say when I explained who the movers were they tried saying they only hire black workers so it couldn't have been them. Very upsetting and disappointing experience. This was an entire home move. Walls, doors, wood floors damaged throughout the day in each house - The estimator quoted us an added fee for 2 large objects - the correct moving device was not brought on moving day - both items were damaged. Mattresses moved without any covering and delivered dirty! MANY pieces of wood and leather furniture not protected correctly resulting in damage on legs & corners. One leather couch was dropped on the lawn and placed in living room with damaged corner and dirt stuck underneath it with dirt left all over the floor! This company treated me and my home's contents with care and attention. I looked at 5 moving companies before choosing one. They were the ONLY one to come out and assess the scope of the job before sharing their quote. The team showed up at the time they committed to be at my home, they worked hard without trying to extend the time it took to drive up the hours they would be paid, and were friendly throughout the job. It is back-breaking work, but they did not show any fatigue or attempt to take shortcuts with handling the many boxes, furniture, and possessions. I am impressed with them and while I hope to not have to move again any time soon - I gladly endorse them and would use them again should the need arise. read more

Working with Angelique from the office put my mind at ease as we went through the list of furniture I wanted moved and confirmed with pictures. My move was local, but still (in my view) a hard move because I had REALLY heavy antique furniture that had to go up three flights of stairs. I also had heavy boxes full of books. Starting from my original destination, the movers were on time and extremely professional. I had requested a team of three, who seemed to work together to make sure nothing was broken or mishandled. They did everything we asked them to do. We had them pack two PODS for our Cross Country move. They fit everything in and finished in record time. Although my issues were mainly related to my dealings with the office staff (I had an out-of-state move and some of my furnishings were lost), the owner contacted me to review my issues. Truthfully, the movers were professional and efficient as stated in my original review. The stumbling blocks were my experiences with trying to secure a move date and resolving my lost items. We discussed how everything could/should have been handled and agreed that a $200 refund would be satisfactory to cover my losses and general good faith. I received a check for $100 last week.
