It pains me to leave a negative review of this store because I love it and its staff. They're always so friendly and helpful. However, the vaccination vet services they have on weekends have really impacted negatively on my experience of this location of my beloved neighborhood Unleashed. There is one vet tech who is regularly spiteful and outright rude. She is actively nasty, slow, and horrible. I know for a fact that management has been made aware of numerous complaints about this service, how late they regularly are, how they over and double charge, and how unpleasant this specific vet tech is with customers, yet they continue to return. I have seen the vet tech be rude to staff as well as customers, and again, I and others have complained on numerous occasions. This reflects so poorly on the store and customer experience. read more

New manager and some of his staff are very unfriendly and unwelcoming. I miss the previous manager and the welcoming and relaxed environment. My 10-pound dog, Coco, walks unleashed and I was about to leash him before entering the store. An employee, Dom, was smoking in front of the open doors and blocked Coco with his foot. So rude and unnecessary since I was literally just seconds away from leashing him up. I prefer not to return to that store ever, but Coco still wants to visit some of the employees who are incredibly sweet and kind to him despite the cold, corporate, and unfriendly environment established by the new manager. read more

I haven't been moved to write any reviews of a pet supply store until today. I've been happy with this location of Unleashed since we moved to Brooklyn over four years ago; there's almost always parking nearby, the staff is friendly, the litter is affordable (especially when you're willing to shovel it yourself into your own used empties), and the Pals Rewards program is at least somewhat useful (though it's a little annoying that I usually get the reward coupons too far in advance of our next litter needs to use before they expire). Yesterday late afternoon, I was finally done with a long list of other responsibilities for the weekend, and set out on a litter run. I checked Google for the right address and the Unleashedbypetco.com store finder for the hours, and both of those sources told me that this location was open 9am-9pm seven days a week. I went through the usual annoying process of calling our garage four or five times to let them know I needed our car, walked to the garage with three large empty litter containers, waited ten minutes for the car anyway, then drove to Unleashed... ...where I found it closed and locked at 7:20pm. The two women in the front kept making the "can't hear you" gesture and not being interested when I pointed out that the store's own website said they were open until 9pm. On my drive back to our garage, I called (via hands-free, don't worry) the store in order to leave a message, and to my surprise a man picked up. I admit, I was pretty angry at the inconvenience of having gone out of my way in reliance on the information I'd found, and I admit, I yelled. I was partly upset because I can't get to the store on weekdays, and we just weren't going to make it six more days without a fresh supply of litter. This gentleman kept his cool and apologized, and while he didn't promise anything, he suggested the name of a manager I could call in the morning, possibly to arrange for delivery. The manager with whom I spoke this morning (a lot more calmly, and with a few apologies thrown in there for my yelling of last night) was quite helpful, and he made all the necessary delivery and payment arrangements for me to feel that I was receiving what I sought in the first place for an appropriate price given the circumstances. He also promised to contact the website's administrators to straighten out the misinformation (they've already fixed it as of this writing), and completely understood my frustration at the results of my being misinformed. Now our cats have fresh litter, and I'm impressed with the customer service I received on the back end of this incident. No reservations about returning. read more

I walked into get a coat for my puppy and they gave me free cookies for him to try. They are all super helpful and they will walk through the aisles to help you find what you're looking for. Whenever I come in they don't ask questions about you using the restroom. You can really browse with your dog without being hassled. read more

With a name like "unleashed" you should expect this store to be catered to dogs and that is exactly how it is. I went to purchase some hamster food and some bird treats for the pets at my job. I looked around for the things that I needed only to be greeted by numerous types of doggy necessities such as food and toys as well as some cat items. I went to the counter and asked where I could find the items I was looking for. I was directed to the farthest corner in the back of the store. When I got to the section I was uncertain that I was even heard, since all I saw at first was cat litter. I then turned and saw the very small section which had both the bird treats and hamster food. There were only two bags left of the hamster food (and they were small bags) and a couple of different bird treats. If you have a dog this store will be a godsend and heaven to them (you can even bring your dogs inside), if you have a cat maybe it will be the same, but if you have any other types of pets it is best to look somewhere else because they may not have what your looking for and if they do they will be pricier than most places. read more

I really wish I had gotten her name, but, whoever was working the register last night (a young woman with dark hair and glasses) she was such a sweetheart!! My best friend and I were shopping in preparation for our new kitten and when we got to the register the woman pulled out a coupon book and saved us over $30!! Also, multiple people asked if we needed help as we walked all through the store. Good customer service is always appreciated. I use this store on a moderate basis, but I have noticed (most recently yesterday) that when I shop here that there is a young woman who seems to be doing everything while most of the guys are chatting and standing around. Yesterday, I obtained my items and got in line for the cashier. Actually, I was the only one in line. There were three college age guys behind the cashier counter. One was talking to a customer - not assisting her - just chatting about her adorable dog. The other two were chatting with each other. I stood there a couple of minutes. They clearly saw me, but made no effort to check me out. Suddenly, the same young woman whom I have seen on previous visits and who seems constantly busy came to the counter and motioned me to her checkout register. While checking out, I made the comment to her "are you the only one who actually works here?" She laughed but knew what I was referring to. I said I have been employed in stores before and I notice who is actually working and who isn't. She laughed again and said "so you know how it is". Yes, my dear, I do. I am retired now and I definitely know how it is for the woman to do more than her share of the work and never receive any praise or reward for it. So, let me just say again thank you for doing your job. I hope Management recognizes what a valued employee they have in you! read more

I had an unfortunate experience today relating to this store. No need to go into the whole scenario. I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the manager Nicole's swift handling of the situation. Once she was apprised of the matter, she was quick to ascertain the facts and make things right. She was extremely professional. So, if someone in the corporate offices sees this, you should commend this woman for running a quality operation. You nearly lost a big recurring customer. I generally do not like Big Box stores, but this store does not have that feel. I could tell it was important to the manager Nicole that a customer not walk away feeling less than satisfied etc. I will definitely return because of the way she handled things. I appreciate that. Nice store, friendly staff, good selection, and convenient location. So why only 3 stars? Because they're way overpriced, not only compared to other stores, but even compared to Petco's own website. This store can be 40% or more, higher than its own website. Some quick examples: An orthopedic dog bed that on Petco's site costs $50, costs $100 at the store. A cone that in the store costs $37, costs $18-20 on many sites online. There is no justification for this. While I like to support local businesses, and I understand that a physical store is more expensive than operating an online store, I just can't recommend it when I know the store's prices are through the roof, nor can I, in good conscience, patronize it. As a result, I shop there only in dire necessity and never under normal circumstances. read more

Love the staff here! Last time we were here, I noticed a giant display of dog food and treat samples. I asked the nice guy working behind the counter if I could have a pack. He responded with, "Do you want one of each?" and proceeded to hook us up with 7 bags of samples. Plus, the store is neat, clean, and filled with different types of treats that I'd never seen at a Petco before (we usually go to the one in Bensonhurst). On this particular trip, we got our little one a bag of Blue Buffalo heart shaped chicken treats. They're cute as well as delicious. read more

The service is terrific. The prices are steep, but the people who work there will genuinely try and be helpful. If you're tempted to buy things, you and your dog don't need, then bring a list. I'm often tempted splurge on organic paw creme or calming collars that you would never waste money on if it was for humans. I don't know if I could ever say enough about this unleashed location. Our dog Emmy is a large pitbull who is very friendly but VERY energetic. We have had experiences in the past at pet stores where people act scared of her or not very kind to her because she's a pit and she becomes very excited very easily. Every. single. staff. member at this location remembers Emmy's name, makes a point to come over to pet her, and gives her treats. We live right down the block and Emmy literally pulls me across the street just to go into this Unleashed to see her friends everyday. Today one of the staff members, his nametag said Lukas, literally got on the ground to hangout with her and search for stray tennis balls under the displays for her to play with. I decided to make a return at this particular location because it was convenient; I work a couple of blocks away. The harness my fiancé purchased did not match the packaging it came in so we couldn't use it. Our dog is a size small and the item was a small/medium in a size small (not small/medium) packaging. When I presented the receipt and item to the cashier, Christian, he was snippy and was insinuating that the item I was returning was not what was purchased with the receipt. On top of that, he said the receipt, "looks fake" because it didn't have the usual Petco policy printed on the back and that I could've produced it on my own. I kindly told him to look up my pals rewards number that is attached to the receipt and I could also login on my phone if he wanted to look up the history. He then says something along the lines of, "I guess I have to believe you and I'll do this return just this once." The other cashier was chuckling as he was was muttering something under his breath. I've never felt as insulted as I did today in regards to customer service. I wanted to ask for the manager but I didn't want to make a scene. Your employees should be vetted better. I'm a seasoned retail/customer service worker and would never treat a customer this way. Suffice it to say I won't be returning to this location again. read more

Staff: The owner is very friendly! He is great with the animals. I take my toy poodle there for a cut ( which is also where I purchased my dog). The cut is amazing and clean, the dogs ears are so clean and the fur texture and smell is superb! Products: The dog food products are also a dollar or two cheaper here. The store employees are nice as well. I really love the knitted custom sweaters that are sold in the winter! Very inexpensive ! Places sell them for $30-40 bucks. At this store they have unique hand knitted sweaters for $15-17 bucks! It's a steal. Animals for sale: The dogs that are for sale there too are very inexpessive. Dogs in Manhatton price at $4,000- 5,000 for a toy poodle and a few othey toy breeds he has for thousands of dollars less. I was bummed when I found out a large chain was going into that space, but I've been converted. What I like most--besides the great selection of products mostly made in USA--is the helpful and seemingly happy staff. They don't have a lot of turnover, they're educated on the product and helpful and everyone seems really happy which tells me Unleashed understands what many retailers don't: happy staff equals happy customers and MORE SALES. Though park slopers are often weary of big box stores, Unleashed has the benefits of a big store with the care and customer service of a family owned business. Nicole is wonderful manager who knows her customers and the rest of the staff are genuine pet lovers who listen carefully and make informed recommendations and empathize with your spoiled pet. Did you know that they have a generous return/exchange policy? That they do home deliveries? Forgive them for being owned by Petco and give them the local support they've earned. read more

I can't believe what just happened. Passed by the store and wanted to grab some food for my pup. I usually have a tote bag with me and I would tell the cashier not to give me extra plastic bags. But today I didn't have a bag. When I was checking out, I noticed a tiny sign at the cashier's that they are "plastic bag free" and instead I could buy an over priced, poorly designed tote bag. So I said I didn't want to buy a bag that I will probably never use again. She said she'll find me something so I made the payment. Then she couldn't find me something to put all the cans in, and she turned to the store's manager for help. He came to me with a judgmental look on his face, gave me a lecture about their store's policy, that they've been "plastic bag free" since A MONTH and that he'll give me a garbage bag and this shall NEVER happen again. I stood there, totally overwhelmed by the sudden and blunt critics, cautiously asked: "Do you.. prefer that I don't buy anything? I could return those and come back when I HAVE a bag." He said: "I'll give you a garbage bag this time but it'll be the last time that this EVER happens." You made your point, dude. Your mission is to punish all the evil people out there who don't even bring a bag when they go shopping, they shall think hard about it at home, and return civilized and good.
