We called Bushwick Bark at 7:40pm because we ran out of kitten food and desperately needed to pick up more for the morning. (We had a super crazy week and somehow forgot to order more before we ran low) Someone that worked there picked up the phone and told us they were open until 8pm. We told her that we lived right around the corner (we're 3 blocks away) and that we would be right there and if she could just wait for us, we just needed to buy a pack of food super quickly. We ran out the door and got there by 7:50pm. She had closed the store 10 minutes early, and didn't even wait, knowing we had kittens at home that needed food. I love supporting small businesses and honestly, we'll give this place another try eventually, but if the people working at the store don't even care enough about kittens that need food, we aren't super excited to continuously support them. Or! If she could have just told us she preferred to close 10 minutes early and not to bother rushing over. Overall, it was a bad experience and we hope they can show a little more support for their local regulars with pets. read more

The store itself is great. This is about the groomer. 1. There was no electricity when I walked into the store 2.The groomer was either overworked or too lazy. I'm thinking it was the former. 3.The groomer expected my dog to be free of all tangles or he was gonna shave him. 4. He said he didn't have the "proper tools" If you have a poodle mix of any kind I would avoid this place until they hire more staff or get better workers. I have seen legitimate matted dogs receive proper haircuts vs what he wanted to do to my dog. Avoid unless you just want them shaved. read more

I left a one star review in April. I called Bushwick Bark to complain about the affects of my dog's haircut provided by their groomers. The woman on the phone took down my contact information for the owner to call me and still has not called me. I have been going to the vet every other week for the past few weeks since he received his haircut at Bushwick Bark. I have visited a total of 5 vets. My dog is full bred Pomeranian and they shaved him down completely even though I demanded for them to leave at least half an inch of fur prior to his cut. One vet even suggested that it looked like he may have been burned from a razor from the cut... The vets confirmed this may be pre clipping alopecia, but this has also led to other issues now such as allergy. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEIR GROOMING SERVICES. This place is a GEM! So glad I found via Yelp. The staff is friendly, sincere, and helpful. Daniel, the groomer, is a godsend. Our dog is petrified of getting his nails clipped and kept squirming and trying to escape. Daniel was so patient and calm and used a nail grinder to get the job done on all 4 legs! We love supporting local but Bushwick Bark is one of Gemma's favorite places. I wanted to take a moment to shout out Iris, Jacob, and Meg. The three of them always make us feel super welcome. Gemma's always a handful in the store, smelling toys, trying to get at snacks, being an overall tornado, but I've never been made to feel ashamed of the fact that my dog is nuts lol. Everybody is super sweet and always so understanding of the fact that Gemma is excited about everything in the store. Also, Daniel the groomer does an amazing job. Have been going here for a couple years with no problems and then the last two times I got my dog groomed, my dog came out hurt and not wanting to walk. It was so bad I took my dog to the vet both times after getting her groomed. So strange that all of a sudden things changed with grooming here. Pups went for first time and Daniel was really good with them. They had a groomer for 3 years before we moved to NYC. They're Coton's and not everyone gets the cut right. As siblings they do everything together and either they both love it or they both hate it. They came home with tails wagging with less hair and super tired. Daniel was sweet and I'll go back again. Prices were good and they took two hours per pup. Bushwick Bark is a gem. As I waited for the pups I listened in on other conversations. Every customer was greeted like an old friend and very one seemed very into their pets. I'm a dog person but they had a few cats there that had me wondering how different would that be to own a cat. Al the pets were stinking cute. September 1, 2018 pups were in for a grooming appointment which was to include a wash, a tidy up, sanitary cut, anals, pads, ears and overall good looking appointment'. Was rushing when I picked them up. Got home and I've no idea what the groomer did for 2 1/2 hours. Other than a bath and dry ... I've no idea. Called back and was asked what was I expecting? What didn't the groomer do? And I could come back for a 'no charge visit. Given I paid I'm not certain why that was emphasized.Called today to confirm and got a not in service message. Will keep following up as they're due in tomorrow! A great groomer is hard to find!!!! New Year. WTH! Came in a week early as they called with a cancellation. Arrived on time. Spoke to groomer. Was told at 4:00 it would be around 5:30. Received call pups would be ready in 15 minutes. Arrived at 5:40 and waited until almost 6:20. Had a pleasant conversation with new staff and groomer. Then 30 minutes later a call from someone saying they're the owner blasting me for paying with a debit card! Not only paid for appointment but tipped the groomer! "You know grooming is cash only." Nope!!! They've taken my card 2-4 times before. Left a tip on the charge and was told at the time it was okay. 30 minutes later ... a ridiculous call!!! WOW!!! Rude to the staff? New girl at register didn't have a clue what to do. Wished her well. I've never raised my voice. Always polite. Mind you ... no where is it posted in the store that grooming is cash only. No where is it mentioned when you book. Nor is it stated when they confirm the appointment. Nor was it stated when I was called that the pups would be ready. Have asked for the owner to call when they're been problems before. Good to know one exists. Beware ... depending on her mood you might be welcomed. You might get screamed at. Yelling at good customers who pay their bills and tip ...sounds batshit crazy! Cash only grooming? Hummm!!! Not reporting that income to the IRS! Paying folks off the books? Oh my! Good luck! I just adopted a rescue kitten from here as a companion for my current cat at home. They partnered with Whiskers A Go Go, a local cat rescue organization. Both the staff at Bushwick Bark and WaGG made the process so easy! They were able to answer any questions I had and gave me some advice on how to help my new kitten adopt to her new home. The staff at Bushwick Bark also were able to tell me about all of the kitten's different personalities to help me choose the best one for my current fur baby! You can tell that the staff care about the animals there and are knowledgable about the products they sell. There is an application, and the adoption fee with WaGG also provides shots/vaccinations and spay/neuter. I read all the great reviews about this place and decided to get my baby groomed (for the first time) The women working there (I don't remember their names) were so friendly. They both asked me questions about my baby. Both appeared very interested in making sure he was groomed to my liking. One of them worked at a vet and told me my baby had some yeast in his ears :( gotta check that out but I definitely appreciated her input. I inspected him from nose to tail when I picked him up. Some of his nails were cut too short; I could see the vein. His nails hadn't been cut in 4 mos so I knew they would have to take a lot off. He wasn't in any discomfort tho. They called me 10 mins before he was done and he was ready for me when I arrived. $60 cash for the grooming. I would definitely bring him back read more

I absolutely love this Bushwick Bark. They carry awesome products, plus Dottie and her staff are knowledgable and helpful in every way. Not to mention, their DIY dog bath is the best! I think it's something like $15 to not have to worry about dog hair all over my bathroom... worth it. I take my dog Bear every two weeks to get a shower and he loves it because he always gets treats from the staff and we're met with familiar faces who always remember us. Additionally, I took him here to get his nails trimmed and I warned the groomer he can be a little wary of strangers and that I was kind of nervous. She wasn't nervous at all, took the time to calm HIS nerves (and mine), and she even let me come back with him and hold him while she did it so we didn't have to muzzle him and he was much calmer. I don't know any other place that would do that. Seriously, I can't say enough awesome things about this place and all of their staff members. I've had a lot of trouble finding a groomer in the city who is both reasonably priced and capable of doing a good job grooming my dog, whose curly hair can be a challenge. I was so impressed with the amount of time that Carolina put into discussing how I wanted my dog (a bichon frisé) to look etc. She took her time doing a truly meticulous, and obviously quite experienced, job. But I think the photos of Andy before and after that I've attached tell the whole story. The one groomer though was lovely and tried her best to trim her nails and even get her used to the sound of the electric file. My 16 year old senior yorkie is super picky about who he trusts with his grooming. He's been dropped as a youngin and has had groomers be unkind and impatient with his scared/shy demeanor. He's been called difficult by a few who don't get him. As a senior, he's had grooming in LA and NJ, both great groomers, and this was the first time in BK. I couldn't find an earlier appt at his usual spot in Jersey City and we are staying in the area for the week, so I gave it a shot since they were very responsive and really listened to his needs, which is primarily a vibe - if you are warm-hearted, confident, patient and kind, he will respond. We are a Latino family and it's hilarious because he's responded well to Latino groomers! Praise! We had such a great experience here. My little boy was so calm and happy after his grooming. My dog (Bubbles) has been going to another groomer in Jackson Heights for about two years now. I decided to give Bushwick Bark a chance after so many good reviews. I am very very happy with their service! I was able to make an appointment the same day I called and was even able to be seen earlier. It took about two hours and they called 15 minutes before to let me know he was ready. When I first saw him he didn't even notice me. He was so excited and happy, wagging his tail everywhere. I took this as a good sign because he wasn't scared or shaking. I checked all his paws and underneath his arms. No cuts anywhere & his ears look great. The price is very reasonable as well (I believe price varies on how big or small your dog is). Dogs must be vaccinated with rabies, DA2PP and Bordetella. read more

Daniel takes excellent care of our two dogs whenever we bring them in for grooming. One of our pups is high anxiety but Daniel handles him like a total pro and with excellent humor. We honestly don't know what we would do without him. In addition, everyone on the entire Bushwick Bark staff is warm and friendly and clearly true pet people. Our pups get treats as soon as we walk in, and even our scaredy-cat takes a break from whining to do a good sit for the super kind employees. My dog, who my boyfriend and I rescued from a puppy mill 2 months ago, has a collapsing trachea, which makes it difficult to find a groomer who is gentle and won't restrain the dog by the neck too much. This was his first time getting groomed and I was absolutely terrified, but it had to be done. The first groomer I called, NOT Bushwick Bark, when I requested no or minimal restraint by the neck, as it could cause respiratory arrest in my dog, said "we will see what we can do, but no promises." I did not feel comfortable with this. I called Bushwick Bark the next day and when I requested the same thing, I was told that they have a groomer who is super gentle, Daisy, and she will take good care of my pup. Yoshi also recently had eye surgery and was shaved on one side, so we really wanted it to be evened out without shaving him too short. Oh man, did Daisy take good care of him. I recently took my dog to get groomed at Bushwick Bark and the did a wonderful job. He's haircut was spotless and he came back very happy. They charged $70 and he was done in 2 hours, HOWEVER afterwards they called 4 times within a 30 minute period to go pick him up. I answer the phone all 4 times and explained I was stuck in traffic but on my way. It felt unnecessarily harassing and annoying, even though they were nice in person.
