I never had issues until recent when I tried to make an appt for my dog and it was brought to my attention that he doesn't have a file. I found out they had a flood and lost paper work and never once contacted me to let me know and when I tried to make the appt, I was told. I just took my 8 yr old Pomeranian, Tito for his first ever grooming (I've always just done it myself), and the people at Bushwick Bark were AWESOME! I was super worried about Tito since he sometimes has slight separation anxiety, but the groomer (Daisy) came out and talked to us for a while and got to know Tito before taking him back. He went with her with no problem at all, which he doesn't usually do. I did a lot of research first and was so happy with my choice. Not only were they super nice and accommodating (they fit me in the same day I called), but they were also the cheapest pricing in the area! She's a very timid kitty, but I can say that they seem to handle her well. The "lion cut" takes about an hour and cost $100 bucks. The cut will last about 3 months depending on your kitty's hair growth rate, but it's worth every single penny. I've been taking my pup here since we welcomed her home last Fall. Their groomers are very professional and know what they're doing . My pup always smells great and her coat is the softest it's ever been after a bath here. They also do really great nail trims, which I am always worried about because her puppy nails are black. They even let us use our own shampoo! The only downside here is the cash-only policy for grooming, especially because you can pay with card shopping at the store itself. read more

I took my cat here to get groomed now while the store itself is really cute. The groomer's service on the other hand was not so cute. She barely spoke english and I thought they'd do a great job due to the reviews but I was wrong. My cat had a blood mark on his tail that she claimed to be small but when I got home it was pretty big. He bled a lot and I wasn't offered any type of ointment to help clean his wounds which I thought was really unprofessional. A month later and now he is still scabbing on that same area and he never never had this before!!!! I won't ever take my cat here again and I don't recommend it! They did offer me my money back which is great but now I have to take him to a vet. Service is cash only which I found a bit strange, it was sketchy! Okay, forgive me for reviewing a reviewer but... There is another business in Cobble Hill that takes groups of dogs on outings. They both advertise their services using eerily similar terminology, such as "dogs" and "groups." If that doesn't blow your mind, get this- both advertisements have DOG PICTURES! I can't empathize with the mind of someone who would connive on this level, but I'm sure they're probably anti-Semitic or something. As someone who's lived in Brooklyn for many weeks, I have a keen taste for authenticity. My dog does too because she shares all my thoughts and feelings. So we walked 4.5 miles to Cobble Hill to experience the real deal. It was SICCCKK! On our trip my dog's legs got a bit spasm-y on account of the long walk, but we both were free to be ourselves! The day wasn't without its sad rain clouds though :( On our way home we passed by a store where people can do their laundry using coins. I couldn't believe it, but a business in Bushwick stole their idea and doesn't even give them credit! I usually support local businesses like Rite-Aid and Jimmy Jazz, but I draw the line here because "Knickerbocker Laundromat" clearly has a problem with Armenians. On the reals though, Bushwick Bark has been a blessing for this new dog owner. Aside from its excellent products and services, Dottie and co. work hard to build a sense of community among dog owners in Bushwick. They're always welcoming and will even suggest nearby stores if they're out of a certain item and you can't wait for them to order it. I also mean no disrespect to the "other entity." I know nothing about them because they're in freakin' Cobble Hill, but I'm sure they're great. I just hope they don't pay Amanda R. to PR for them. Not a good look. read more

Her knowledge on pets and the best nutrients is outstanding. Took my dog Mylo in about 2 months ago and had an amazing experience. They were very sweet with him and the customer service was great. Mylo went in for a full groom and came out with the best haircut. They followed my instructions to the T. I will definitely be going back! The only downside is that it is ONLY cash. This is the friendliest, most helpful and most AFFORDABLE pet store you will find anywhere in Brooklyn. I mentioned how I had a cloth and wire tunnel my cat used to like but I couldn't find another one anywhere and the owner ordered one for me straight away, no mark-up, no shipping charge. My cat loves it and is actually more active every day now! I had a bad experience with the cat groomer here and while this could've gone unnoticed by the owner, she instead reached out and opened up a conversation and really demonstrated amazing customer service that I truly appreciate. I am actually so surprised by these reviews. I would never take my pet back here. I came here to get my cat's claws trimmed and they took her to the back grooming area where I was not allowed to go. I already saw this as a red flag because I would like to be able to see where my pet is going and the sanitary conditions of the grooming area. The claw trim was fast, but not painless at all. When I got home, I noticed that my cat had blood by most of her claws because they were cut too short. All I could do was cry because I could tell she was in pain. This place clearly does not know how to handle cats and I cannot imagine how they could treat dogs any better. read more

I bought a dog jacket here for my puppy and it fell apart within the first 6 times of my puppy wearing it. He didn't chew on it or anything, he was absolutely content with his jacket and wearing it. When I brought it back to Bushwick Bark on Knickerbocker to at least get an exchange, they refused. How is it fair to a customer to spend $60 on an item for my dog that can easily be exchanged or at least get a refund and you're going to tell me no, you can't do that because it's against company policy??? I was told to go to their location on Irving to talk to the manager and upon arriving to the Irving location, was told the manager was "out of town". So now, not only does this small business refuse to please the customer in doing whatever they can to help, they're also liars. You will never be getting business from me again because you clearly don't care about customers concerns and your policies are backwards. read more

NOW it's actually great for the Bushwick community. The Halloween doggy costume contest these guys put together was RIDICULOUS (in the good way) and I've met so many other people in the neighborhood (and even found a free dogsitter!) because of hanging out at Bushwick Bark. I usually come here just to get my dogs nails trimmed. It's a small shop in the front and an even smaller grooming space in the back. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. I always call and ask if the groomer is there first and if she will be available. The groomer is a sweet lady who will not only trim your dogs nails but also give you tips on how to maintain them ! My experience with that staff was wildly frustrating. After multiple calls and TWO walk ins I was turned down getting grooming services. Poor communication, and lack of follow up. Such a shame because I want to like this place. We absolutely love the daycare next door and they recommended Bushwick Bark. So I just got a new French Bulldog puppy and need to get a more healthy dog food for him. Unlike the closer pet store near my home who runs out of Orijen puppy food, but ridiculously "recommend" me to get the adult version. SERIOUSLY? So what I did was I googled another store that carried Orijen...VOLA! Bushwick Bark! This is a pretty small (or I should say average size boutique pet store), but has variety of healthy dog food brands. The sales is not only very friendly, but also knows a lot about dogs. She offered me advice on which ones to buy, and also possible solution for my frenchie's tear stain. She also recommended me Blue canned puppy food. Overall, I would say it was a great experience. I rarely write reviews, but I must say that I've had a great experience with Bushwick Bark. Prices are a bit higher than chain stores, but some brands of cat food are even more cost-effective here, and despite their limited shop space, they are stocked up on all the essentials--be it litter, shampoo, eyedrops or transport boxes. The staff is incredibly warm and forthcoming and I never feel out of place here. I'd rather support them than any chain stores anyway. The self-grooming shower is so cute and stylish. She gives great recommendations for natural and organic food and truly cares about every pet and owner that walk through the door, even after the stores closes. I've been coming in here with my two dogs for a while and love all the products and services they offer. Dottie always spoils my dogs rotten (Venkman and Bowie) with treats and affection whenever we come in. Her and her staff (the young guy) are both very knowledgeable and helpful whenever I go in looking for something or have questions about a product. We also found a good dog trainer (Daniel) through Bushwick Bark and couldn't be more pleased with the results. In addition, I think it's great what they do with their partnership through Empty Cages Collective and have dedicated the store and their own products for homeless cats in need of permanent homes. I follow Bushwick Bark on FB also and love that they're always posting about homeless animals needing homes. Dottie's selfless and very educated when it comes to advice surrounding my dog's diet, training tips, treats, leashes and more!! Popped in at the end of the day for a quick nail trim for my pooch Peanut. Unfortunately, he gets overly excited at the presence of other dogs. The staff was so kind and gracious, walking over to greet Peanut as I tried to calm him before walking through the store. Thankfully the groomer was able to see him right away. She was welcoming and warm with Peanut as she trimmed his nails. He'd never been that cooperative and calm having them done. It's usually a dramatic battle trying to do them at home. I've only been in here twice and I won't be going back. I will say the employees are very friendly but for some reason my dog doesn't like this place. He doesn't want to go inside and he doesn't take the treats from the lady who tries to give them to him. My dog is very friendly so I find it odd that he doesn't want to go up to her. I trust his judgement when it comes to this place. They also don't have much of a selection of items. Both times I went in there I didn't find what I was looking for. Love this place! Everyone who works here is friendly and knowledgeable. One of our dogs, who isn't the biggest fan of getting her nails clipped, had her nails trimmed here without any issues. The groomer did an excellent job for the amazing price of $10. We also bathed both of our dogs using the self-wash station, which is also super affordable at only $14/dog... FYI, if anyone else is nutso like us, you can fit two adults and two dogs ranging from 35-60lbs inside that "shower" facing the street. I'm sure the folks on the sidewalk got a good laugh. read more

I'm caring for a teacup Maltese who very badly needed a bath and a trim, so I did some research and found this place. I was able to make an appointment on Thursday afternoon for Friday at noon, I was glad because I honestly thought I would have to wait a week to have him smelling fresh and looking handsome again. I dropped him off with the groomer who was a very friendly middle aged woman and clearly a dog lover. I showed her a photo of what I wanted and she said it was do-able. I was called to pick him up about an hour and a half later and as I entered and saw little Peanut and I was shocked, he looked like a contestant on the Westminster dog show. I was a little flustered trying to control little Peanut who was excited to see me while trying to pay for his grooming, luckily enough the cashier was kind enough to hold him while I fished out my wallet and handed her the money. All in all this was a great experience and Peanut looked happy so I know that they took good care of him at the Bushwick Bark, I'll be coming back here again. read more

We've been waiting for a pet store like this one in our neighborhood! The Loom has one, but Bushwick Bark is definitely a welcome addition to our block. The owner is super friendly and also told us she'd put in an order of our cat's specific food (he's got tummy digestion troubles) when we mentioned it. The doggy shower in the window is a nice touch.
