I brought my dog here February 23rd to get his usual grooming as he has been coming here for over an year. Yesterday when I arrived to pick him up, they handed him off.. I paid and they stated everything went well. When I got into my car and picked my dog up to greet him. I realized he had a HUGE BLOOD CLOT IN HIS EYE! I immediately called them back to ask if anything had went wrong during the grooming procedure, they asked me to bring him back. Once I brought him back, they had no clear answer for how this injury could've occurred. They started off by getting the groomer from the back (an older woman who barely spoke English) that stated MAYBE shampoo got in his eyes during the bathing process but it is evident that this isn't the case because this wasn't just RED EYES. I told them a "MAYBE" wouldn't suffice and I need a REAL ANSWER so I can know how to care for my baby who was clearly showing signs of anguish. The groomer went back into the back area of the store where the gromming is done for almost 10 MINUTES the came back out saying that my dog was "RESISTING" during the bathing process, so 2 GROOMERS had to HOLD HIM DOWN & RESTRAIN HIM during the bathing process which "probably" caused him to burst a blood vessel!!!! I don't know about anyone else but NONE OF THAT SOUNDS OK NOR PROFESSIONAL! Not to mention, my dog is less than 100 pounds so if one person can't control him or it gets to any point where they felt he NEEDED TO BE RESTRAINED BY 2 PEOPLE I think ALL WORK SHOULD STOP. And I can come pick him up and get my money back.. because I would've much preferred him not getting groomed over HIM GETTING HURT. They had NO REMORSE nor were apologetic for what they had done. Which was completely shocking to me because as I said I've been coming here for over an year! I had to practically beg them to even translate what the groomer was saying each time she came out. Then may I add, they nonchalantly passed me eye drops from behind the counter like this was a normal thing that happens at this establishment. And of course they were off-brand in a foreign language & EXPIRED!!! My heart is so broken behind this and my dog has literally been anxious since. I wouldn't wish this situation nor treatment on anyone and their pup. My dog and I will never be returning. read more

The people that work here are too rough with the animals, curse, and even yell an scream at the animals. Our family dog was sent here for a normal grooming and was first off butchered. All hair was cut off and had obvious cuts... then we noticed that the dogs eyes were blood shot red. And when we called to ask about it we were told "It must be the shampoo" but with further observation on our baby poodle, who normally is very active, friendly and loving, we noticed he was very distant and quiet. So we took it into our own hands and went to see the vet. Upon doing so the vet revealed some very disturbing news to us all, our dog Tucker, had sever scleral hemorrhage and excessive neck pressure due to strangulation!!!!! I've been here a few times with my pup Dior and there usually pretty friendly. You get welcomed by the guy in the front and there's a little lady waiting in the front to take the pups inside. Today I dropped him off around 9 and by 12 he was ready. I always like the cuts he gets here but I'm not sure if they brush their teeth, I'll probably end up doing it myself once I get home. I'm not sure about your dog but mine hates the groomers lol so he usually looks happy to see me because he's so dramatic ‍. They do a great job with my nervous puppy getting her all fresh and clean and helping her to be less nervous and frightened while in their care. We've also made some great progress on her overgrown nails the past few months. She always comes out happy and clean! Once she even tried to run back inside when I came to pick her up! DESPICABLE!! I am so upset and appalled at what I subjected my poor dog to! I have added a photo so that all can see that there is no exaggeration here. I brought my Maltese puppy to Lucy's Lucky Dog for a grooming. Simple hair and nail cut, plus bath. Well there was nothing Lucky about Lucy's today! After dropping off our dog, my husband gets a phone call stating that our dog was "nicked" during the grooming and that they were sorry. When my husband went to pick up our dog he was horrified by what he saw. Our dog had a gash on his leg, not a nick, and it appeared that skin was missing. This was no small "nick" one might get from shaving, this was a horrific gaping hole in our dog's leg! (Again picture is attached to the profile so you can see for yourself!). The groomer offered his explanation of what happened, "the dog kept moving". Really?!!! What do you expect a dog to do?! If you are a professional groomer you should be able to deal with a LIVE dog that will OBVIOUSLY move while being groomed! I am truly dumbfounded by what happened and I blame myself. Like many of you, I chalked up the negative reviews to picky customers who probably exaggerated their events. DON'T MAKE MY MISTAKE. I was recommended this place and at first I didn't really trust it because it was my first time taking my dog to the groomers and I've heard of places doing bad jobs. So when I got in there they were really nice. my dog is really not the sweetest so when I gave her to the lady who was at the front she was a little resistant but the lady was calm and patient with her. Lucy did a great job on our 4-month old Miniature Poodle, Bebop! Backstory: Bebop had a number of really tough mats in her puppy fur. We tried to get them out and turned the little poodle into a mauled-looking/mangey/patchy mess. We called early on a hot Sunday morning to see if we could bring her by for review and were happy to learn that walk-ins were welcome. We hustled over to the location, convenient to both the Grand and Montrose Ave L stations, and Bebop was reviewed in person right away by Lucy. We felt very comfortable and "deposited" the little poodle for just a couple of hours. Then, not more than 3 hours later, we received a call that said Bebop was ready for pickup. When we arrived, we were so happy to see that she was in great spirits and looked like a lovely, happy poodle! Her nails were clipped and she looked like a little lion - fluffy head, legs and tail, with a very short coat on her body. Borderline comical, just how we all like it in this summer heat. Service cost around $55, and we happily provided an extra tip. We'll be back! read more

I'm one of those people who believe everything happens for a reason, the believer who thinks it's fate when he arrives right on time as the L train pulls in. I called LLD to ask about prices. I knew the voice on the other side belonged to someone friendly when I asked more and more questions and he kept saying, "Yes, go on" in a very non-cynical voice. I dropped my dog off and knew he was in good hands. They were willing to listen to what I wanted. I went back 4 hours later (which he warned me about) and didn't recognize my dog. In the best way. He was beautiful. If I wanted Michelangelo to paint/sculpt my dog, this would be the time. (Yes, I know. He's dead. My girlfriend and I adopted our dog Sammy from the Humane Society last weekend and he needed a grooming very badly. He's a Cocker Spaniel that would commonly get confused as a Poodle because of his long doggie ringlets. This is our first dog in the city and I was clueless about the things a pooch needs to go through in a grooming - this isn't a simple wash/cut/thanks-see-you-later. After doing a search for groomers in the Williamsburg and Bushwick areas, I decided to give Lucy's a try because John, the gregarious fella that runs things and answers the phone, hurriedly ran through the services Sammy would receive for my $60. The hurried-ness was important to me because that told me that they are busy - a good sign. The list of services John presented was also key - everyone else just asked the breed and quoted a price (usually in the $60 - $70 range, much to my chagrin.) John ran through the list: wash, nail trim, hair cut, ear clean, anal expression. WHOA - anal expression!?!? Clueless to the anal needs of my new pet, I swiftly Googled the lovely phrase. If you don't know what this is, trust them and DO NOT look it up on YouTube, as I did. If you do, God help you forget. Grooming at Lucy's is first come, first served. So, I walked Sammy to the "salon" to get in the queue. Upon arriving at Lucy's, I was greeted by John who checked Sammy in and sent me on my way. After 2.5 hours and a couple beers at Spuyten Duyvil, Sammy was ready. He was so transformed I didn't recognize him. He looked great, smelled great, and seemed fully expressed. I'm giving Lucy's 4-stars because I don't have another groomer to personally compare them to - but I had a fantastic first experience and won't need to look for another groomer any time soon. read more

I have been wondering about this place ever since I moved to the hood, the sign indicating groomers led me to believe I wouldn't be here much, since I have a rugged pup that prefers not to be bathed and likes to roll in poop on the regs so often finds himself taking a shower with me instead of me trying to drag his wild self to a pro. Finally I figured what the heck they may have some good supplies, after all the windows are filled with toys and goodies. The first time I went in was an extremely strange experience and made me feel like I didn't belong. The lady did show me some of the bags they offered for dogs and they were much more affordable than the other local options for dog supplies but with that affordable price came a little bit of a cheap or tacky look. So I decided to keep looking. Today I went in and there was a man and a woman there and it was a completely different experience, this time from my boyfriend's need to frequently bathe our little guy he's started to get dry itchy skin so I thought I'd better get him some real dog shampoo with some anti itch. They happily helped me choose a good shampoo to use and when I read the label it was exactly what I had asked for. They were both very friendly and laughed with me at my stupid jokes. The shampoo was $12 which seems like a lot to me, but hey I'm cheap. Everything else I've seen there though was much less money than other places around so I figured what the heckkk. I'd recommend popping in if you're in need of some simple supplies and have a low budget, this place is tiny but packs a lot in there. read more

I had my cat groomed here about 6 months ago. She received a lion haircut. It was done fairly quickly - 3 hours and I picked her up. The second time was a disaster. I called ahead of time (1pm) to see if they could do a basic wash and trim for my long haired cat. They said they weren't busy and could do that. I brought her in at 2:30. They said they would call when she was going in to start. By 5pm I had still received no call. I called and they said she would be done at 6pm when they closed. My boyfriend drove from Manhattan to get her at 6:15pm only to hear that she would be another hour or so. Still NO CALL by 7:15pm. I called in at that time and they said 15 minutes. I picked her up and her hair is not trimmed, she smelled like a wet dog and they charged me $95 dollars. I will never go here again. read more

I've been walking by this place for years, thinking about bringing my Poodle mix, Sophie, whom I have had for five years.. Sophie does not handle being groomed very well, a previous groomer I took her too told me to come pick her up because she was too aggressive. So I have been wary of taking her to groomers, and cut her hair myself, which she doesn't like much either, and I do not do a very good job of it! Anyway, after stopping this place and asking what she would get, same as other people mentioned, cut, cleaning, nails trimmed, and "anal expression" for $60 (I guess their rates have not gone up since last year!). They also mentioned that it is first come first served, so show up early if you want your dog in and out quick. So Sunday morning I dropped her off first thing (8 AM). I was told it would take about 2 hours. Went home, a little worried that they might call saying she was too hard to trim and I should pick her up. Well, they did call me 95 minutes later, saying she was all done and to come pick her up! She looked great, with a nice short summer haircut, and she seemed very happy. Needless to say, I was very happy with my experience here and I recommend this place very much and will use again. I only regret I have not taken her there earlier. ================================= Update 5/15/2014. I have continued to take Sophie here for the last four years, and have always been happy with her haircuts here. Not sure why so many people have complaints about this place. One thing I will say, because they take no reservations, and are first come first served, I always make a plan to take her at 8 o'clock when they first open, so the turn around is quick. I think you really need to plan your day around getting your dog there soon if you want a good experience, those experiences where people waited all day to get their dog back sound just terrible to me. I think bringing your dog here in the afternoon is just asking for trouble. ====================== Update 5/12/18. Another 4 years I have been taking Sophie here (she is 16 years old now!), including since they moved from Maspeth Ave to Graham Avenue, and I still have to say I have been very happy, though their prices have gone up some in the last couple of years. She looks perfect, they listened to all of my neurotic dog parent requests, and she even came out with a necklace and a to-go bag of treats! Been with them since the metro location and would t trust anyone else. They always do what there requested. Please understand when you go for your fur babies first haircut you will never like it why, cause you are not use to it, but it grows back. This has nothing to do with there work it's just your fur baby will look different, I've learned that with my experience as a dog mom.
