My goodness this place is nasty between the flies and the stench. I left the store feeling dizzy.

I'm a cat lady. ...and, one usually with a car. Until I moved to New York. C'est la vie. And cat ladies, well...need to buy things for their cats. Mine happen to be in limbo in Chicago right now, but soon they'll arrive in Brooklyn and there are a few things I needed to get setup for this "trip" to be less torturous for us all. And how do people buy large, bulky bags of pet food, cat litter, etc when they have no car? And no means to carry it many blocks? Well, when the awning boldly states "free delivery," it means you go in, grab your stuff, and have them deliver it. Done and done. Yes, it's a bit pricier than I am used to...but frankly, everything in New York is, so I won't split cat hairs. They have just about anything you'd need in somewhat manageable quantities, should you need to heft it yourself. The owner took my address and phone number, rang up my items and delivered them at approximately 9:05pm to my front door (in the neighborhood), just as he said he would a few hours earlier. He was kind, professional, and even snuck in a few samples for Thelma & Louise. (kidding, those are not their names...but now that I think of it, that would be funny. sort of). A great alternative to big chain pet stores. Also, his kitty Tweaks lives there, and though skittish, climbed right into my plastic bag. She knows I'm a cat lady, I must just have that vibe. :::::sob::::: Ok, kidding. But seriously. Professional, good shop. I'm getting ready to adopt a kitten. I was a dog owner when I lived in the suburbs, but I'm new to cat care and to the Park Slope pet stores. I've spent the past week surveying pet shops all over the neighborhood, and this is by far the best in the Slope. The salesman patiently answered all of my cat-n00b questions for half an hour. He actually talked me out of buying expensive products that I don't need. Then he offered me free delivery, threw in a few treats for my new furry friend, and gave me the store's phone number in case I had any questions. Every weekend during the summer, I enjoy walking past this store because of all the adoption events the store hosted. It wasn't until recently, when I finally adopted a puppy, did I make my way into the store. Even though the store is small, it is crammed with a variety of products that I would find in bigger stores. I was able to get all the supplies I wanted to get (e.g., wee wee pads, treats, toothbrush, and toys) for my puppy. Good products plus the price is right ! The owner bet me that the cost of his wee wee pads was cheaper than what I bought at Petsmart and surprisingly he won. I like how the folks who run this place are honest. For example, one of the guys told me that most no-bite sprays don't work and only recommended 1-2 of the ones they had in stock. Another time, another guy told me to buy the toothbrush kit because it was cheaper than buying each of it separately. The folks who run the store also know a lot about dogs, at least, and were happy to share words of advice to a new- puppy - owner. And the thing that tops it off, sometimes the guys would give me free samples of treats for Rufus (my puppy)! read more

The shop is small, but packed to the brim from wall to wall, floor to ceiling with pet supplies. I marvel every time I walk in here, how they can pack so much into the square footage! Be warned that as you peruse, if another group comes in, there will be a lot of body contortioning to get through the aisles. That being said, they do have most major pet food and the specialty brands - Wellness, Orijen, Evo, Natural Balance, Halo, etc.- at very fair (ahem, similar to online) prices, will deliver for you, and throws in a treat or two with your purchase. Super friendly, great products, and decent prices! First off, every single person who works here is incredibly nice and helpful. I always get a free sample of something, and they always ask about how my cat is doing. Secondly, it is a small store, but the choice of product they carry is amazing and so much better than a super-store overwhelmed with everything (from good stuff to crap). This is the only pet store I've found that is run by experts. I came in for the first time the day I adopted a 10-week old puppy, and the store owner has helped me through many puppy hurdles in the year since then. The man knows what he is talking about, and he's patient, honest, and willing to spend as much time as it takes to help a customer. When my pup had chronic tummy problems (for over a month), three visits to the vet and hours of online research didn't help, but the owner's advice made my dog completely better in a matter of hours (it was a food intolerance... not sure how the vet didn't figure that out). The only downside is that the store is really small, so you may have to wait a minute for someone to take items down from high shelves for you. But the free delivery more than makes up for that! read more

They sell expired products and the bully sticks are crawling with bugs. Staff has tried to overcharge me before; I've had to point out the posted price. I went in to pick up some dog treats and while I was checking out the shop cat tried to jump onto my shoulder, scratching my hand and tearing up my jacket. The clerk told me that this has happened before and apologized. I told him that I appreciated his apology but that this was unacceptable and that if the cat has a habit of jumping onto customers he shouldn't be allowed to wander the store during business hours. He never volunteered to take care of the repairs and it was only when I told him that I expected the shop to pay for the damages that he told me he had to speak to his Uncle. I waited several days and kept being told that he had to speak to his Uncle. This is obviously their way of delaying things until I drop the issue but if this is how they care for their customers I would shop elsewhere! With so many choices in Park Slope I strongly recommend you avoid this place. read more

This is THE BEST pet store in Brooklyn. The prices are at least 20% lower than every where else. They carry great specialty stuff like "Cat Attract" and "Kitten Attract" Litter. The owner is so nice and helpful and seems to really care about your pets. read more

We all live in an area where we have many options on where to buy our pet supplies. We can go to Petsmart, or we can go to Target, or even our local corner store. The customer service that you receive at this Pet Boutique & Supply is honestly the main reason for our purchases. To be even more honest, we didn't even look at the prices of our purchases until after we had already purchased them, and we were happy when we saw the number on the register. For the type of food we bought our cat - Weruva and Natural Balance - we were pleasantly surprised at how fair the prices were! My girlfriend stopped in one day on a whim, and she made me return with her because of how she was treated in the store. Twix (the cat that they rescued and greets you in the store!) will come up to you and want to cuddle! What a sweet cat! We were given a free sample for our kitty, and we found she liked her current food best from a free sample we received in the past. Absolutely go in! We won't shop anywhere else now! read more

Check for valid expiration dates!! They have actually scratched off the last two digits of the expiration year (found on the bottom of Weruva canned cat food, as just one example) on certain expired items. This is probably criminal. read more

When I walked in I was greeted by a lovely little cat, but that's it. The man behind the counter didn't even acknowledge my presence. Then I asked where I could find a larger bag of the food I needed, and he took me to a weird closet/back room that didn't even look like it meant for customers. There were also other bags piled up nearby. Very unorganized, bags were dusty and there was a box of dog bones scattered all over the floor next to the entrance. Then I asked for glucosimine, he looked through the unorganized bottles behind the counter but I had to help point out the glucosimine which was very dusty, expensive and without an expiration date. Then I insisted he look deeper, another one was found but it expired in 2011 and the clerk handed it to me without even checking. No joke. He said they don't move much and he gets rid of them as he realizes it.... needless to say that I won't be going back. read more

The man who works at this store is just the sweetest. I had went in for some cat litter and while I was there I left a shopping bag behind. I went back a half an hour later to ask him if he had seen it and he said yes and handed me my bag. I thanked him for being so kind and headed for the door. I had been a happy, regular customer since they opened, but this lack of care and responsibility is infuriating. There is NO chance I will be returning. Everything in the store seems really old, it's all dusty, and the selection is terrible.
