District Dog - Delicious cakes for my dogs!!! - Pet Stores Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Everything in this boutique is quite expensive, but it's convenient for picking up items for your pet. The mini cake was well enjoyed by my pomeranian, and my pet ate it over the course of two days since it's rather big for a 7 pound big. For example, a simple "Happy birthday" paper and toothpick cake topper is $7. Wow! A tiny party hat is $11. You definitely pay for the convenience here. read more

I ordered my dogs birthday cupcakes here two years in a row. I also got his hats and bandannas with birthday stuff on it too. They make it so easy to order online ahead of time so it's done for your arrival. The lady working the cash register was totally invested on helping us and paying close attention to the details we wanted. She' was awesome! She worked June 6th in the afternoon if that helps because I forgot her name. We also had to grab some goodies around the store. Definitely my spot for my frenchies bday! read more

Bought a small birthday cake for my pup's bday and they have cakes readily available in the fridge. It's made of peanut butter so it's safe for dogs. She most definitely drooled all over before devouring a slice of it. read more

I came here to celebrate my dogs birthday because I didn't want to go through making a cake like last time. Majority of the stuff on there website is available in store. They have such cute accessories but they are pricey. The cakes are small and will run you around $25 and the cookies and cupcakes range from $3-5 dollars each. Things can add up. Then they sell these prime dog bones that my dogs destroyed and LOVED!! I wish I could buy the entire store including the cute leashes!!! You might see a store that is closed that says district dog when you pull up don't be alarmed they moved 1-2 stores down. Credit card accepted and you accumulate "stars" when you shop that earns you free stuff! read more

Good dog supply store! I made the trek to Brooklyn to get a cake for my dog's first birthday because I didn't want to pay for delivery. I placed the order for a cake online for pickup. Definitely pricey and the cake was small for the price, but I wasn't throwing a party for him and his friends so the cake was a lot for one dog. My dog loved the frosting and licked it all off and wasn't sure how to bite into the cake, but he's a weirdo. I would recommend freezing the cake if your dog can't eat it all right away. The store seemed to have a range of supplies and well-stocked. They also have other baked dog goods that you can order. I got a "one" candle, and the cake photographed really well. Overall, a good experience. read more

I don't recommends this place. The staff forget to put my purchased pastry for my puppies, first birthday in my bag. However, he did call me and tell me, so I go over there and there's a lady staff and I asked her for my pastries, she is so rude and cold and tells me she don't know what I'm talking about , so I play her the voicemail and she says oh and she takes the old pastry and slides it over on the counter, I said o OK! I asked her if there's any way she can give me like a discount or e refund for coming all the way there because I didn't need the pastries any more, the party was over. a refund or a fresh item, she said no I cannot do that so I said maybe the manager can, so I asked if the other staff Julien was the manager she says no no no no and starts laughing so hard, ( jealousy I figured ) cuz he is so polite and courteous ,which she knew nothing about!! asked her to give me the owners number to ask them, she takes about 15 minutes looking through her phone and finally gets the email of the owner and tells me here. No apology for anything, just here!! wasted my time driving there to get stale, old pastries from a B!! bull read more

The woman that works in district dog is so helpful and knowledgeable. I explained my issues with my pet and she had great suggestions and solutions, may I add that it worked out as she suggested. THANK YOU so much! read more

Super cute interior and the best dog treat selections around these parts, I love love love district dog. Going in there will make you feel so posh and buying your best friend a treat and a toy will make you feel like you're really pampering him with the good stuff. Best of all it's not even that expensive, it's a boutique, with great quality stuff but average prices. Some of the stuff can be a little pricey but it proves itself to be worth every penny. Super cute toys, adorable and even pretty tasty looking treats- think full iced birthday rawhide cakes, dipped bully sticks and lots of meat treats! Also if you want your pup to sport the cutest Brooklyn gear in the borough they've got it. Hoodies, raincoats, cardigan sweaters, white T's whatever your pup's style they'll have him suited up in some local gear in no time. It's the kind of clothing you know was made by someone who lives in the neighborhood but with such love and care that it really feels extra special. Best part, right next to McGolrick park dog park so you can have a terrific doggy day and treat your friend to both. read more

Ever wish you had a family friend who could you know, groom your dog, watch your dog, feed your dog? Well that is District Dog. The owners are a beautiful couple and people that not only care about animals but about their community. Bella (my shorkie) left her first grooming since i adopted her looking like an episode of "Underdog to Wonderdog" on the Animal Planet, she was perfectly cut, smells great and seemed to not mind the experience overall. I will def be returning to groom her again and am excited to check out their new larger facility. read more

I haven't been compelled to write a review in years but there have been too many poor experiences with this store not to. They are always rude and unwelcoming, as if you're bothering them by giving them business. They almost never open at the time they're supposed to. Too many times they've said they're out of my dog's food while I found it just by looking in their cooler. Sorry to bother you guys! I've been trying to support because they're a small local business but I can't take the disrespect anymore. read more

The owners of District Dog teamed up with two friends and started Adoptny.org a collection of over 44 animal rescue groups in NY that are striving to make NY State a no-kill reduce state. These guys couldn't get more awesome! They are also CONSTANTLY researching products and carry the best for your pet. read more

My dog was groomed at District Dog recently. I called and they were able to fit him in the next day, which was wonderful. My dog is rather sensitive to grooming, and sometimes comes back from a groomer timid and hides under things for a few days. At District Dog, this didn't happen at all. My dog clearly had a good experience. Everyone there was very nice to me and listened to all of my concerns (from his sensitive nature, to sensitive nails and ears, to mats and exact haircut I wanted). My dog looks great and is very happy. It was a little pricey, but I got everything I asked for. I highly recommend the grooming here! read more

I count on Rob and Bea for all of my pet needs. Best petstore in NY, in my opinion. They carry tons of CAT SUPPLIES, so if you are a cat owner, don't think this is a dog-only place. Their co-business, Brooklyn Waggers is also top notch and great value for pet sitting while I am away. I know the local sitters, and we will talk about my cats behavior afterwards, which is good info to know. Shop small, support your local businesses, like District Dog! read more

I traveled all the way from south Brooklyn because I could not find any other place that makes desserts and pastries for my doggies. It was both my dogs birthday and wanted to do something special for them so I decided to head over to Greenpoint and get them cupcakes and treats. I got two cookies and two cupcakes for them at a reasonable price for 4.99 a cupcake and 2.99 for a cookie. The cupcakes needed to be defrosted a bit before feeding the dogs but once I put it down my babies went HAM on them especially my big dog. They loved the cupcakes and will definitely go back to get some or maybe bake some myself. Overall this pet store seems to carry a lot of different items for dogs and cats at reasonable prices. read more

Trevor is the best dog walker! I couldnt be happier. He is always on time and my dog loves him !

The ex and I bring Sebastian (Stinky) here every time for his grooming. they are always very pleasant and accommodating. The shop is really cute and has a nice variety of products for sale. Stinky always comes back happy and perfectly groomed. It really shocks me that there were the two reviews below that say their animals were mistreated. This absolutely does NOT sound like the service that we get when we take Stinky here. He is very, very shy when it comes to strangers and even the ex and I can not trim his nails as he is very sensitive. We've never had a problem with the groomer trimming Stinky's nails. He comes back always happy with tail wagging and a cute new bandanna around his neck. I would most wholeheartedly recommend taking your furry friend to District Dog for their grooming needs. read more

Amazing store, amazing people. They know everything there is to know about pet food and pet care. Especially within the context of pet-obsessed, overly-parental, organic-only New Yorkers. We are obsessed with our pets and, unless you own a pig, we're smart, too! You want to buy from and help support a business that is local, caring and smart, right? This is a win-win-win. My only complaint is that it's not in my neighborhood. (That's how cool they are, I take TWO TRAINS to get here.) read more

Cute little pet store with nice staff and a good selection of higher-end food and toys. It's definitely more expensive than chain pet stores, but it's nice to support a local business. Also, they helped organize a dog masquerade to help four-legged victims of hurricane Sandy, which is a huge plus in my book. Their doggy cupcakes and treats look really cute and tasty, even though my dog Peanut shuns them completely. Then again, he's kind of a dick. read more

Very disappointed.. It's the second time going here for the "Frozen Goat Milk Yogurt with Coconut for my Pomerania. 1st time I bought a box there was no problem. 2nd time I went and purchased 2 boxes mind you these yogurts are pretty expensive treats. There's 4 cups in each box, all 8 cups were just half full as if they were all eaten half way Or they made two boxes to sell out of one. Will not be going here again. read more

This is where we buy all our cat food, litter, treat, and toy needs. They have a ton of cool dog toys and outfits. A variety of nutritional foods for dogs and cats in wet, dry and raw forms. There newer store, next to their former location on Driggs Ave is nicely organized. They also have nice soy candles that help with owning animals. This is a family business, the owners are a married couple, Rob and Bea and are long time Greenpointers. They are extremely helpful to answer any questions and very active in the community. I think they even have special dog cookies and Birthday cakes- they looked delicious even though they were not for people. read more

Best pet supply store ever. My cat was suffering from hot spots that had been treated ineffectively by several vets. One of the employees here suggested I try a "pea free" diet as many pets have developed pea allergies from the over use of peas as a cheap protein source over the years. I switched to a dr hills science diet and my cat is happy and healthy!! This is after seven years of on and off issues!! They're always friendly and helpful here. I would drive ten miles to shop with them; lucky I live right around the corner! read more

This review is solely based on the grooming. In short, our dog was damn near butchered. She's not the same dog anymore and I hope she recovers emotionally. Yes, they have a cute store with decorated doggie treats. Yes, they were very smart to put it right next to the dog run. Yes, it is a smart little business (heavily focused on profits) using, apparently, the heavy Polish surrounding for their workforce. The groomer was less than charming. Our dog loves just about everyone. She always goes up to other dogs, people; extremely friendly probably too much so. Once in a while, she'll bark at someone at night who resembles the unibomber; other than that; she's just a sweet pup. Well, she wouldn't let the groomer come near her until I bridge the gap between them. And the groomer had zero personality; I question her English capacity. Maybe there was a mis-communication because she didn't get the nuances of social interaction. When we picked her up, there was a dog YELPING in pain as she was being groomed. It's a cute store; get better kinder help. read more

Squandering a perfect location. A little too New Age / holistic for my taste, and inconvenient hours for a new business and something people can rely on in the neighborhood. They are closed when I go to work and by the time I get home they are closed again. Nearby shops keep more New York City appropriate hours. read more

I really like the people and product of this food store so I can't completely reduce the rating as this is where I get my dog's food, but the thing that drives me mostly crazy is their hours. As someone had stated earlier, every time I go to work (which is later than most...around 11 or 12) they are closed and then they close around 6 or 7 depending on the season which is right when I get home. I tell my boss I need to come in a bit late to get my dog's food and yet still they aren't open when they say they're supposed to be, making me even more late. They probably open more so around 12:30. I've learned this after several days of waiting 15-20 minutes after 12 for someone to show up and open up. It's just a bit aggravating. If you say you are going to open at 12, be open at 12, otherwise be truthful in your advertising and change it to 12:30. I think the reason their hours are so weird and short is because of the amount of sales for the store is pretty small so they can't afford to stay open that long. Either way, I hope they become more professional and timely in the future because I really love this dog store apart from this complaint. Other than that, this store has great quality dog food and a very friendly work staff that seem very knowledgeable on doggy health. I would recommend them if you aren't a stickler with time! read more

District Dog is the cat's meow! They're not just a business, they're truly neighbors. The owners are very knowledgeable about the merchandise and conscientious of the food they're selling. The employees all remember and understand that our animals are our family. They never throw a sales pitch, but will give you well informed and candid advice. District Dog puts the welfare of animals above profit and that's why I go there even though there are other stores closer to me. The prices are also very reasonable compared to other supply stores. read more

My cat and I had the worst experience! District Dog did not respect basic sanitary rules or the pets and they lied to me. They started mowing without showering even though they told me a shower was required before mowing to protect their material. The table was dirty and full of dog hair, and when the woman put my cat in a cage to take care of a dog who smelled like urine, she didn't clean the table or her hands. My cat became really nervous since we had already been there for more than an hour. And the woman was falling asleep every two minutes while she worked on my cat! The session lasted 3 painful hours. My cat came out stinking and now she is sick. Think twice before going there for grooming. read more

Very convenient. Stocked with higher end stuff, so expect to pay more. Great service. Place is on the small side though.

Dog and Cat Day Spa services available. Yes, they groom CATS. They offer shaving services, Furminator DeShedding services, Bath Services. Just met the owner of the shop yesterday. The owner and his wife spearheaded the creation of McGorlick Park's dog run and sell a wide variety of high quality food and toys for cats & dogs. They also do grooming for both CATS & DOGS. I've been searching high and low for a Cat Groomer in Brooklyn, and I think I have found it with this couple who speaks so lovingly about their own pets. After my appointment I will be sure to update this post. Update: My cat survived the groomer and didn't seem too upset by it. YEAH! They only staff one groomer, whom they trust, this is the shop I've been looking for. They even have cute dog treats encased in a display case in front. I feel like I'm shopping in Manhattan, if only the shops in Manhattan were so cute.... I think I'm really starting to like Brooklyn a whole lot. read more

The only reason I'm writing an update is because Yelp filtered my review. I'm hoping that they will stop filtering reviews.

A great neighborhood pet store, not sure what was up with the 1 star review on here. It's right by McGolrick Park, not sure why it says it's in E. Williamsburg, it's Greenpoint! Anyway, cute store, great selection of quality pet food and litter. I wish there was more for cats aside from the great food collection - there's some cardboard scratching posts, some cute collars, a small selection of toys. But that's kind of par for the course with most pet stores, really - and its name is District Dog, after all, not District Cat. But I'm very happy to have it in the neighborhood and the staff is always friendly and helpful when I ask for recommendations. read more
