They have cats. Feral cats. Inside. My dog was attacked by one hiding on a shelf and the (brazenly maskless) staff looked at my bleeding dog and yelled at ME that I was warned by the joke "beware of cat" sign hidden up front. They had barely an apology and even accused me of bringing my dog in with a bleeding fave and trying to accuse them of something that didn't happen. The incident was extremely loud and could not be missed. They really showed an disturbing lack of compassion or concern, offered NO compensation and basically threw me out. I hope they have a good lawyer because the vet bill was expensive. It's also dirty and gross in there so maybe just stick to Chewy.com. MUCH better prices and save your money to rescue more worthwhile businesses from the devastating covid situation. Sorry, but a pet store that doesnt care about your pets (or their customers) isn't really earning their place in the world. read more

This is my regular spot to pickup pet food. Went there today to pick up some cat food and noticed that most of the young employees were NOT wearing masks. The one that did had it under his nose. Its a small place with no air circulation. I will not be going there again. Management really needs to talk to them. The pandemic is not over. read more

Beware! A female employee there refuses to wear a mask (it is mandatory for a small essential NYC business) and will berate anyone who asks her why she's not wearing one. Through the years leading up to this, whenever I would go in there, employees would be eating smelly food that was spread out all over the counter. This place may have a great selection of (overpriced) pet foods and treats but it is poorly supervised. There is no active management that is concerned about customer service procedures. Went in to buy some pet food today and the orange cat was sitting on the counter and attacked me while I was trying to use the credit card machine not once but twice and he scratched and bit my hand. The people working did nothing about it and just said he was in a mood. This is totally unacceptable that they let this happened and did nothing about it. I wish I could give a zero star review, because they truly deserve it for their abysmal customer service and consistency in getting my order wrong. NEVERMIND that I've made the same standing order for almost 2 years, they've still managed to screw it up more than once, but at least previously they took ownership and made amends (very, very grudgingly). Not too long ago I placed my same order, and when they gave me the wrong food AGAIN, I called them to request they re-deliver/exchange. THEY REFUSED and told me to come into the store, that it wasn't 'worth it' for them to redeliver. Wow. I called their owner and left multiple messages, even emailed them online, and nobody EVER got back to me. I hope this review drives away business, because until you all figure out how customer service works, you don't deserve it. read more

They're not perfect but they're pretty close... It's small, it's not the cheapest, it doesn't carry everything.... BUT the staff will go above and beyond to help you. They'll remember your pet and ask how they are. They'll special order things for you and usually have them in within 24 hours. They have a great selection of organic foods and higher end foods (Natural Balance is my personal favorite). What really sold me is an experience a few years back. I had only had my dog a year or so and he was super sick. The vets didn't know what was wrong and we were doing a ridiculous amount of over the top tests. The woman behind the counter kindly offered me samples of different vitamins and probiotics to try to help his stomach since she could clearly see I was exasperated. In the long run, who knows if they helped or not but the gesture alone was the pick-me-up we needed. read more

Well stocked with all brands, from low to high end. The sales clerks are usually friend and helpful, willing to leave the counter and aid you in finding something you can't find. Price wise, they are alright, fair. They are cheaper (or the same) than a couple of other pet stores I have been to in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. I feel like I hit the jackpot having just moved in a couple doors down from this place. I just moved to nyc from a place where I had a car and was dreading the thought of lugging heavy cat litter for blocks and blocks. I also like to get the holistic type cat food for my 2 guys so I am a bit picky about where I shop. Lucky for me NYC pet has everything! They have all the brands of wet and dry food that I like to buy, and they also have a huge selection of cat litter. I try to be environmentally friendly but I really hate the "natural" cat litter so I like that I can get my Tidy Cat or Scoop Away at the same store as my Halo and Wellness. So today I just popped in for some cat litter but I will be back often because I also noticed that they have a HUGE selection of cat toys. The prices are a bit higher than you might pay elsewhere, but to me it's worth it for the convenience factor. read more

He wouldn't stop purring and following me around. I think they are reasonably priced, with lots of sales on canned cat foods. I've been a regular customer at NYC Pet on Myrtle Ave. My dog has allergies and can only tolerate ONE food brand and formula. NYC Pet on Myrtle has been kind enough to stock it for me, but my experience today has me beyond agitated. I realized that I was out of dog food and needed to get more. I called to be sure they had in stock, and they did. I asked how late they were open and I was told 7pm. They are open to 8pm on weekdays and I didn't realize that they closed early on Saturdays. I work until 7pm! I called friends for help, but no one was able. I asked if they would deliver (they wouldn't because where I worked was too far, 1.4mi). Finally I called and pleaded with them to stay open for me 5-10 minutes max. They said "I can't make any promises" My dog needs to eat, so I decided to close (the retail store I manage) early, hop on my bike, and get to NYC Pet on Myrtle before it closed. At this point I had spoken to someone at this location 3 times and they knew that I was coming. I pulled up to the store at 6:58. They were not only closed, but gates were down and locked. How difficult would it have been to tell me that they planned on closing early? perhaps I would have been able to close earlier than I did. I've worked in retail for the better part of 15 years and always accommodated my customers when I could in situations like this (and there have been plenty of such situations). If I couldn't accommodate, I would be honest and let them know. The fact is though that they were not making any accommodation for me! I got there before their closing time and (it's worth repeating) they knew I was coming! I have an extremely low tolerance for bad customer service and I will not be walking through the doors at NYC Pet on Myrtle again. Two stars only because I have been able to rely on them to stock the food I need. read more

Has all the staples plus extra stuff, like limited ingredient cat food for your sickly/picky cat and so forth. Litter prices higher than the grocery stores etc. but that's normal. read more

I can't say the two sitting behind the desk were helpful (at all), but then again, I was faced with a rather crazy pile of ceramic dog bowls, stacked in a multitude of ways that I couldn't replicate. However, I did find a cute white and black bowl with a spigot painted on the inside, and an equally cute green bowl with a bone carved in the middle. Even my pup approved of them! And at just $11 and $18 each, they fit the bill. read more

So our dog has been super itchy lately. We went to the vets and they put her on meds which were not helping. We figured a change in food might be in order, so my husband stopped in to talk to the staff to get their help. They suggested switching to kangaroo and she is doing much better. Not perfect yet, but well on her way after just a week. We will be back for more of that food! read more

Not only is it FULLY STOCKED with plenty of choices for your furry friends, but the prices are very reasonable compared to the others I've shopped at. I prefer the Park Slope store, but this one is much closer to me and I can walk there with my dog. The staff here is not as attentive as the one at the other store. This store seems to have less merchandise than the other (at least the things that I usually need). Small chain stores are more expensive, but I think it's worth it not to deal with Petco. read more

I found this place over a year ago because they carry the specific cat food brand I purchase. Lately they've been slipping. I will go in one week get what I need and the next, they don't have it.. or "The owner stop order online, but we can order for you now to be shipped to the store" type of sh**! I'm thinking to myself how would you like it if you went grocery shopping and they tell you the same thing you told me.. the point is that I need the food now. The cat is hungry! So against my better judgment, I continued to go.. getting the smaller cans instead. Then walk in there today ready to pay and get out because I have a flight to catch, with no warning, "the credit card machine is down, can you get cash" so once again, the customer is inconvenienced. So I had to run down to the bank get cash run back to get cat food in the smaller cans which doesn't help, to pay in cash for them to not have the common courtesy to put a sign up until the issue is resolved, saying "Cash Only". There been several issues I've had with them with simple communication. I was coming here due to the convenience and the location. But it now seems to be a hassle for them to do what they are supposed to be doing. You can't just get in and get out... there's always a snag. It would be better to just simple to into the city and get what I need from the commercial store such as Petco. What's that saying... "The fish stinks from the head". read more

Full service pet store with like a hundred types of cat and dog food, lots of toys, etc. Very nice people. Most importantly for us, they stock three different types of raw food in the freezers for dogs and cats. Prices are fine. For cats, the weruva and BFF canned foods are best, and the Nature's Variety frozen raw food is best. read more

I've been a loyal customer of NYC Pet in Williamsburg for 10 years but sometimes they don't have what I need so I order from this Myrtle Ave location or one of the other stores. I just called and this location now refuses to deliver to me because they wrote in their system I cancelled a delivery. By far my favorite pet store in the neighborhood. They always have the dog and cat foods I buy plus a load of dog toys my dog always tries to steal. Extra plus is that they deliver! Now, once a month I get a 30 day supply of food delivered straight to my door which is amazing since we're talking about 15-30lb bags of dog food. (You can use a card for delivery too which is what earns the 5 stars for me!) read more
