We have been bringing our dog here for daycare and grooming for four years and I really can't say enough good things about this place! We originally tried a couple other local dog daycare places that looked a little more glam than this one, but we've stayed here because of the loving care they provide for our dog. All of the staff are very attentive, professional, and loving with Monty - they notice things about his health and behavior, they pay close attention to the relationships dogs have with each other, and they also have figured out to bathe our dog, who is very opposed to water. Monty is always excited to arrive here and it's a wonderful feeling knowing he is in good hands. (It's also a well-run business; there's never been any confusion about billing or prices or anything like that and they've always been accommodating when we've had scheduling snafus.) read more

Very disappointing service, would not return. Our dog, a 19lb Yorkie mix went in April 2019 for a "summer cut". We were initially quoted the price for a small dog and advised it would take approx 1.5hrs. Having had our dog for six years and gone to several groomers, our expectation is that a summer cut is usually short all over with a little bit of a "lion head" (PIC 4). We didn't think we needed to be overly prescriptive- it's standard practice and we were going to be paying almost $80. We wanted to support a local business and trusted they'd do a good job for this price. When we got our pup back (they called after 40 minutes) they had chopped all his hair off, leaving sporadic patches of long hair PIC 2/3. The person at the desk advised that the groomer had also decided he was a medium dog and would be charging 92$. My partner didn't have time to discuss with them as it was the middle of the work day but when I saw the results and heard the cost I felt I should let the manager know what had happened. My assumption was that any well meaning business owner would want to correct having charged someone $92 for a cut that looked accidental. Despite the photos and her agreeing they wouldn't want to use these pics on their social media, she reluctantly offered me 10$ back (halfway between a small and medium dog cost- again our guy is 19lbs). The manager told me the groomer claimed our dog had arrived in all "chopped up" which was completely untrue. PIC 1 is his hair the day before. At one point she stated that she "couldn't glue the hair back on my dog" - such an outlandish response to a legitimate complaint that I realized I better take my $10 and move on. read more

First with our Hanz and now with our baby Zev. We have built up a good relationship with everyone at Paws and we trust them. Everyone from the owner to the staff loves ZEV and that is very important. Paws in Paradise, is definitely a paradise for my dogs. My boyfriend called earlier in the day yesterday for a grooming session, and they were able to squeeze a 4:00pm appointment for my dog, Envee. Walking into the store, it seemed a bit small, but as you go deeper into the store, you can see that theres actually so much more that meets the eyes. They do grooming, boarding/pet care, and also have a variety pet supplies. Okay, moving on to doggy spa day! I don't know who groomed my dog, but whoever the groomer is.. you are amazing! My Envee came here looking like a homeless dog, and came out looking so polished with a pink bow on her head! Super adorable, smelling fresh and feeling soft!! While those who can are sheltering at home, Judy and a skeleton team has been "holding down the fort" to provide their daycare and grooming services. Stretched to the max by working a 48 hour week, the owner and groomers are practicing safe distancing by wearing PPE and sanitizing the store on a consistent basis. The reason they have such great service is because the owners and some of the staff have their own pets - both dogs and cats- and they are treating all the pets as if they were their own. All pets and customers are considered part of their extended family. Like many others, I found myself as a new pet owner this year. At first I was very hesitant to send my dog to daycare since he was very attached. Within two sessions of day care, he was like a different dog. He LOVED being at daycare and the staff loved him. I own a small, well-behaved dog. I trim my dog's hair, but I have a little trouble with the ears. I'm always afraid of nipping him. So I decided to go get a professional cut to get the ears done right and the to have a good base for future amateur cuts. So I decided to try out this place, since it's in the neighborhood. Result: ears were not trimmed very well, with lots of hairs sticking out and messy. The beard was choppy and short, kind of like they were too lazy to comb out the little knots. I know my dog hates getting his beard combed- I do it every other week- but it can be done, and he doesn't bite or anything like that. Also I noticed his tail/backside area weren't trimmed. I had to get home and cut the stray hair, trim the tail, comb and give a little shape to the beard. Overall I'd say I was better off doing it myself.... So now for the price, which I found pretty outrageous- $65. I wouldn't recommend this place for grooming. I gave it two stars because the staff was very nice overall, and they seemed to be nice to the dogs. Plus it's not like they nipped him or he was terrified when I got there or any horror story like that. But in terms of offering a grooming service, I'd rate it low quality and high price. read more

We used to bring my special doggy here for some routine grooming since it was priced well and really close to home. However, the last time we brought her here she came back with fleas! Of course we called the shop once we saw the fleas to let them know what happened and that they might want to take action and/or let their other clients know. We weren't trying to complain or get anything for free, but they just spewed some standard mess and didn't even seem concerned that one of their clients contracted fleas. All they said was that they bomb for leas every night and give animals baths if they see a flea. They wouldn't even let us finish a sentence. Took my cat for a bath here. Very nice and friendly place. Searched numerous places that do cats, and this was one of the only places that did that. Jill, our groomer was very friendly and gentle with the cat, and she gave positive feedback regarding the cats behavior. The price $85 plus tip is a little expensive, but for taking care of my cat gently, it was an overall good experience. I've used Paws In Paradise for both doggy daycare and dog walking services. As far as the dog walking services, they are great! I can usually tell that my dog is walked and she seems like she has a good time. I can tell because she's a Maltese and her legs look DIRTY! She's usually less anxious and it just makes me happy. As for the doggy daycare services, it still needs some improvement. What's up with the no cameras? It just makes me uncomfortable not been able to see my dog during the day with other dogs(she has some issues). Most doggy daycares have cameras. It's not too expensive and it would probably help with their business. There's another doggy daycare in the the city with cameras and they are cheaper. I just hate dragging Jenna to the city. Also, if you call last minute to see if your dog can go for doggy daycare, well most likely they are "booked" and you can't bring your dog. One morning I called and the manager told me that I couldn't bring my dog, but that I could buy a package and book in advance. They are very big on booking in advance. I don't know if they are truly busy or is some sales tactic into getting you to buy a package and in advance. Overall, this doggy daycare is not convenient at all for me. Been taking our dog here most days of the week for daycare and he's always happy to go, at times don't want to leave! Judy and her staff are great! They're decent members of society - not criminals nor murderers. I've never used grooming but it's not fair to call these people murderers. They don't set out and kill dogs. Neither it is fair to try shut down the whole place because of one incident. I can imagine how fragile a 5 lb dog is, to be frankly honest dogs shouldn't be bred to be that small. Read about tea cup dogs and health risks involved. I'm not excusing bad care, but we don't even know what exactly happened. Accidents happen. There might've been a predisposition. There might've been negligence of one, I don't know. But murderers these people are not. read more

Worst grooming experience with my cat ever. Shaggy, uneven cut, lots of missed spots, loose hair still all over him when we got home (despite using a vacuum-equipped set of clippers). I suspect they even gave him a mild tranq without asking me. The prices on their site are misleading. I just wanted a haircut; got billed for nail trims (he doesn't have nails) and "a top" (whatever that means). I have to assume that this place specializes in dogs and has no idea what to do with long-hair cats. Two stars for a generally hygienic office and courteous staff, but I absolutely would not recommend their services for cat grooming. read more

They were unwilling to accommodate my crated dog for 2 hours so I could just run some local errands - even when they had space available as I was flexible on timing. She has heartworm and clearly they know nothing about that condition. The dog is NOT contagious to other dogs and just needs to be severely exercise restricted and crated since they are sedated and on medication. Very unhelpful and of the few times I've been into buy things they were unfriendly and hid behind the desk. Not recommended and will never get my business again. read more

This was my first time bringing my pup here and I think we found our forever groomer! We went to a place back in April and they did a horrible job so I had to allow time to let his hair grow out and as it got hotter out, I knew it was time to find a new groomer. I noticed my neighbor's dog had a very cute shave and I asked her where she took her dog and she highly recommended Paws in Paradise! So glad I took her recommendation! They were so nice and friendly in there! And they were very patient! (I am going away next week so I decided to get my manicure and pedicure done while he got groomed but it took longer than expected and the folks at Paws in Paradise were understanding. Thank goodness I was only a block away! I was a little nervous as I am never late for anything!) Let's get to the actual grooming! When he came around the corner, he looked so cute! I was very pleased! They did exactly what I asked for! A nice low summer cut. Trim the face down and even out his ear length (the first place again, did a horrible job!) I was so happy with the final look! The groomer also provided feedback on how my dog behaved and what parts scared him a little. I appreciated that a lot as it is good information to have especially since you aren't with them when they get groomed. I also think they have a good selection of food, treats, clothes, bones, toys, etc. Most of your doggie needs can be met here! I love to shop for my pup and I am also an impulsive buyer so I bought a few items and the guy at the counter offered to hold my shopping bag for me till I returned for my pup! Note - I've never used them for daycare or dogwalking - this review is for grooming only - Our pup was a regular grooming customer here until we moved to Greenpoint in April. We now commute all the way back to Paws in Paradise just for our dog's haircut because they do such a terrific job. Our little guy is a challenging case for the following reasons: 1. He has sensitive skin. The last groomer we took him to gave him the worst razor burn and the itchiest skin I have ever seen. Paws took perfect care of his skin - no red bumps, no itching. 2. He gets super matted. Paws sorts through his matting to allow him to keep some length in his coat. Most groomers we have been to will not deal with the matting, instead they just shave him until he looks naked. 3. He's really wiggly. I have no idea how they make him so even while he tries to escape. We just got his haircut this weekend and when he came out, his normally matted, dingy-off-white fluff was white as snow and softer than a bunny. Even three days later, he still smells nice and is so soft that we can't stop snuggling him. The cut looks really nice, too...two strangers in the park asked us where he gets groomed. As if these are not enough reasons to go there, it is 30% cheaper than other places. The last place we went charged $75 for a mangled, mangey looking flea-bitten cut. Paws charges $50 for the full service that makes him look adorable. Love this place. read more

I know my corgi Johnny is definately a big fan of Paws. When I moved into my apartment in park slope I felt like J wasn't getting enough space since he is use to living in a house. Little did i know there was a dog daycare only 3 blocks from me. I didn't even know till I passed by it on the street and saw a sign for beer bones. But yeah I went in and got Johnny a bath and they asked me if I was interested in daycare. They said I had to leave him there for a bit so they can see how he does with other dogs, which seemed cool. Long story short, he ended up doing well on his test period and i left him there for the rest of the day. He is a playful dude so I now bring him in a couple of times a month so that he can burn some energy. INJURED MY DOG. Avoid at all costs. Came in a once or twice for supplies when I first got a dog. Selection is pretty poor. Ended up going elsewhere to get what I needed. Kind of a weird vibe. Employees don't seem particularly friendly or knowledgable. And what's with that weird wooden fence? Later, I brought my small dog in for a bath and nail trimming. He doesn't like having his nails trimmed, so he gets a little nippy, but doesn't bite hard. They told me they had to put a muzzle on him so he wouldn't bite, and then he ripped a nail trying to get it off. They did not offer a refund for the awful experience, instead promising to trim it for free when it healed. No thanks, never coming back. It was so bad I had to take him to the vet. His nail is now permanently crooked. Their story sounds reasonable, but I can't help attributing it to incompetence or neglect on the part of the groomer. Had they worked with an uncomfortable dog before? Were they even paying attention? Bottom line, this shouldn't have happened. I can't in good conscience recommend their grooming services. read more

I brought my shih tzu puppy, Zoey here for her first cut! She loved it! It was very quick and seamless and Zoey looked great!! I actually just took her back for her 2nd cut (a little shorter for Summer) and had to have Jill again, (she's amazing and Zoey defiantly favors her!) :-) I definitely feel comfortable taking my puppy here and am going to look into boarding when I go away! Be very very careful and interview the groomer who will cut your dog. I'm not sure how these groomers are trained, but I have brought my dog (Airedale) here multiple times, and the cuts were fine. One time I brought him here and the groomer was clearly not well-trained, and the cut he got was just atrocious. They promised to fix what they can fix, but unless they can grow hair, it's done. They are awful. and they don't own up to their mistakes. caveat emptor. read more

The facility is very clean, and the staff is so nice and friendly. Our dog comes home very happy, and very tired, which of course is good for us! She's become better socialized with dogs and people. Took our Zozo to this place yesterday and he came back a dapper dog, what an AMAZING job they did with him, not only did his coat feel and look like mink, but he was a chirpy little fella and didn't want to leave after all the attention they were giving him! This place was the first place I brought my maltipoo shortly after I adopted her last year and I had no idea how she was going to act with the groomer. I also wasn't sure what kind of instruction to give because I had never had a dog that needed to be groomed so I wasn't really familiar with what kind of haircut was typical for the breed. When I brought her to Paws in Paradise, they assured me the groomer was comfortable with her texture and could execute a "puppy cut", short everywhere with longer beard and ears. When I got Ruby back, her beard and ears were MAJORLY crooked, like two inches shorter on one side than the other. I asked them to fix it and they did, although it looked kind of insane. Like, not blended, very choppy. There were little tufts sticking out all over her body. She was also frantic to get back to me, but that could just be her personality. I asked if she gave them a hard time, and they said no, she was fine. They were very good on the phone, reasonably priced, and she was very clean when I got her back. I've never been back because I had to redo half the haircut myself. But maybe the groomer has improved since I was there. read more

I brought in my pom, Noah, today for a few hours in daycare. Noah absolutely loved it here. All the workers here are really nice and they all seem to really like what they do. Wow. If I could give negative stars, I would. You should not feel confident that your dog will be cared for here. This review is for their dog day care (first and only time we will ever use). 7:45 am - come in to drop our puppy off. Fill out all forms, including one about feeding him - when, how much, specify which types of treats he likes, all questions on the form they provided. Speak with the woman behind the counter about how he needs to be fed that morning since he hasn't had breakfast, and again around 7 pm. Show her written instructions on form. Sign form. Woman confirms price for feeding and everything, says a man will be working the evening shift and I will need to bring ID to pick him up. 8:15 pm - arrive to pick up our pup (not asked for ID). Casually confirm, "and he has had dinner?" The man behind the counter says "no. He wasn't supposed to be fed." I respond, "yes...I went over it this morning and wrote it down. Did he at least get breakfast?" I ask. "No, he hasn't been fed all day, nonchalantly he replies. I show them where I wrote instructions down for both feedings, on the form they requested I fill out that morning. "Oh well the lady didn't mention it" is his reply. I counter that she should have because she knew, and still I wrote it on the intake form. "We'll we don't use that." I'm appalled. "And how am I supposed to know that? I figure when I fill out and sign a form for feeding, it means it would be done. I'm leaving," I say and I start to walk out. In my head i also think, hmm anyone with an ounce of common sense would have questioned whether a puppy should go nearly 13 hours without food whole all the other dogs around him eat. As I'm leaving, the man raises his voice saying I owe them money. I just walk out. A half-wit would have handled this terrible error much more sensitively than this guy. 30 minutes later the owner calls. "Hi this is so and so from Paws in Paradise." "Hi," I say and pause. She starts talking like this is the last thing she is interested in doing right now, "I'm calling about the misunderstanding. You need to pa--" I interrupt, "The misunderstanding is that I dropped my dog off with instructions to be fed and your employees starved him all day--". She cuts me off,shouting "MA'AM! STARVED YOUR DOG! Let me talk first---" "If you want to talk, talk to my lawyer (who is also my husband, and was there with me dropping him off this morning)," and I hang up. Any responsible caring business owner would have started by apologizing for her staff. Awful place. No responsibility, accountability, or sensitivity when they make big mistakes. read more
