the stupid dark haired woman that works there is cold and rude, my bill came to $4.01 i couldn't find a penny, i said do you really n eed the penny? yes, she said, or i will give you change of $,99 i am in there all the time, and they know me, so cold and stupid, really, is that the way you treat a customer read more

I'm pretty local to this store so I'm biased, but it has most of what you need for pretty good prices. Maybe some items Amazon is like a dollar cheaper but then you can't get items in a pinch. The workers have pets themselves so they can help give some recommendations. I also like the store hours, they close at 8pm so I have time to go pick stuff up after work. read more

Awesome Pet Supplies Store?!! I bring my dog "PEBBLES" here 2 to 3 times a week so she can pick out whatever she wants. Great Prices too?!

My princess was near death, renal and bladder issues. She stopped eating, barking, and had tremendous difficulty ambulating. I brought her to Dr Jeong January 2nd and thanks to his therapy, she's eating, walking and barking. He is a miracle worker. His staff is also very kind, caring and considerate. I can't thank them enough, princess is 14 yes old and back to being "princess"!! read more

I love having a local pet store with great prices. There's a tons of foods and supplies for your dog and cat in a very tight space so it can be awkward when you or others bring their dogs in and all they want to do is pilfer a snack or two. Not much for birds or small pets but when I ask if they can order parrot food they did. Workers are great. Much better than big name pet stores. They will help you get what your pet needs and even help fit them in a colors , harnesses etc. read more

Love that they always have everything that my two cats love and more. I never have to worry about something not being in stock, which is always super helpful. read more

Never experienced such awful customer service in my life. The employees completely ignore you, have stank faces, and are unapproachable. When you do approach for help, you regret it because they are incredibly rude cold people. Never going to step foot in here again. read more

Great prices. The dog food I feed my dogs is $11.99 for a 5lb bag. At another pet shop the same food is $17.99 (ridiculous price gouging!). The staff is helpful... they don't go out of their way to kiss your a$$ or hover around and follow you through the shop (thank goodness), but when you have a question they are perfectly helpful. read more

Very nice pet store that must have opened recently. Great customer service, and stocks many rare products that I haven't found elsewhere. (like Fromm cheese treats) It's a little more expensive here than the pet stores in Williamsburg and Happy Paws of Houston St, but they stock their products well. Definitely buy from here if you live around here. read more

This spot was my neighborhood go-to and convenient for sure. But a recent encounter here with a female employee (African American, multi-colored hair) will ensure I never spend another dollar there. After having just biked my heart out to make sure I didn't get there before closing, I approached the door at 10 minutes until 8:00pm, the door was locked, the female mentioned above unlocked the door and I asked if they were closed. Instead of replying yes or no (later found out their closing time was 8:00pm), she snapped "what are you buying? is it one thing?" I asked what that had to do with anything and she stated "cuz I have to count the register!" Finally, she acquiesced, I bought my ONE item and left, never to return. Customers have a say, whether these placed like it or not, and small businesses, as struggling as they claim to be, can't afford this type of behavior. But, as a sign of the times, they will laugh it off and nothing will be done. I'm glad other places carry the item I need. read more

Please, PLEASE update your hours everywhere. Two places online say the opening hours are until 8:30pm and I arrived at 8:15 to a locked and dark store, desperate for a specific dog food for my elderly pet. I then had to do two things I hate: buy it on Amazon and give her something else until it arrived. I'm now dealing with day 2 of diarrhea. Please please update your hours on all sites. read more

I was running low on Dr Marty's pet food. I had ordered direct from the company but shipping got absolutely messed up and after 2 weeks of waiting i was almost out of food, they suggested Petopia. I went online and asked for home delivery, since i work. It couldn't have been easier and they delivered within an hour. Highly highly recommend. They have wonderful brands and great service! read more

I'm sorry to see the bad reviews - I've been shopping here about 8 years and have never had any problems. It's just a small, neighborhood pet supply store. No frills, not dingy, have never taken note of rude staff. read more

Ruff life. Aside from the neutering part I'd say it's pretty alright being my cat, Max. He gets belly rubs on demand, new toys all the time, fancy organic pebbles of food, and a run of my apartment. Plus, I dole out the treats if he only stands on his hind legs. I mean, I do that all the time and nobody gives me treats. Well, as the human I must continue to indulge my little furry pal and to do so I turn to Petopia for the necessary supplies. I usually go to the outpost up on 14th but will stop into this smaller version when I'm south. I think it actually might be a bit more expensive than the one near Stuytown and has a smaller selection of goods, but it does the job. Plus, it may be a good thing that my spoiling is limited since I do want to make sure that Max knows the value of a dollar. read more

They always close early. And I don't mean they won't let people in after 8:25. I mean they've already closed out their till, shut down the registers, counted the money, locked the safe, shut the lights, armed the security, locked up and walked out the door by 8:25. This happened to me at least 5 or 6 times but I always felt I should take responsibility since I could have taken extra steps to make it there before 7:45, and I like supporting small local independent businesses. However this time I decided to confront them about it. Their response? "Yeah, so?" That's all they had to say to me. Like they're some hip club I should be lucky to get into. I've been in their position doing minimum wage work behind a counter, and even when customers are being unreasonable, you don't give them a jerkward attitude, and neither I nor my coworkers ever did. Yes, I know, loosing my business doesn't mean jack to them, and one stupid whiny review won't effect their overall rating assuming anyone even reads this. All I can say with objectivity is if it's after 7:30 and you're more than a block away, consider going to PetSmart (Broadway North of Houston, closes at 9pm), PetCo (Broadway and 17th, 10pm) or giving your pet scraps from the kitchen as backup plans. read more

I love my neighborhood pet-supply store. Petopia has a little bit of everything. Complete with a great supply of food varieties, a nice selection of doggy treats, and all of the other essentials, you can find just about anything you could need. But if you know me, you know that my reviews are heavily weighted by service. . . so you can gather that I really feel confident that the staff will take care of you and all of your questions. read more

This is the best pet store in the East Village. The staff is very very nice and helpful. I also love how the store is so clean with aisles that you can actually walk in! No bags of dog food lying all over the place here. There is a nice selection of "healthy" foods for kitty and fun toys. read more

This place is great. They have a huge selection of food and clothing for dogs, and although it is a bit pricey, the staff there is incredibly friendly. I asked them for a recommendation for a groomer and they gave me cards for like 6 groomers in the area and wrote little notes on the back of each one! They also have a great selection of cat paraphernalia as well. If you are in the East Village and you have a pet, this is definitely the place to go. OH! They also deliver products in the neighborhood for free! read more

The worst place in the city , feeling very bad for the young people Who have to work there. The owner of this store is absolutely horrible doesn't care if they have bugs in their Dog food packages, she will let you know that she is not the manufacturer it is not her fault and will not offer a replacement or a refund.... do not shop here Your companion will end up very sick read more

Petopia carries a great variety of high-quality products and the employees have always been nice and I like that I can take my time in the store without feeling watched. The prices are comparable or better than other local stores, so they are my store of choice for many things my pup needs. I live much closer now but would make the effort to come here before. read more

Granted I live directly next to a pet store, I still walk out of my way to go here. The place is always spotless and organized. They have a wide range of items and are always stocked. The owner is so helpful and insightful and clearly loves what he does and takes pride in running a good store. That's 90% of the reason I like going there. Yes, it's a little expensive... but it's not out of wack compared to every other place in this city, and consider your alternatives. read more

This store has the most superb customer service of any pet store I have shopped at here in NYC. Not only do they do free delivery but they are so conscientious about each and every order and they take their time to make sure everything is perfect. They also have a great selection and their prices are comparable to other pet stores in the city. Really, I am constantly floored by how on the ball they are. I wish more businesses could take lessons from them! read more

When there were dogs escaping the dog run as their owners went from one gate to the other--yakking on their cell phones, not paying attention, but still--Petopia stepped in to donate intermediate wire gates to make sure the dogs had an extra safety net to prevent their escape. I'm pretty impressed with that. The only reason I don't shop here more is that the vast majority of the products they carry are made with meat and animal by-products. I know, you're saying, "They're ANIMALS; they're supposed to eat ANIMALS." And most pet-supply stores carry mostly animal products--I know, I know. Actually, I go out of my way to get my dog and even my cats vegetarian food and treats. It's possible, and they're thriving. Fortunately, they do have Dick van Patten's Natural Balance Vegetarian formula here, a highly palatable food that omnivore dogs I've fostered also like. Even my cats like it, and they're picky. read more

Really enjoy this pet store! They have all the essentials you need including top end pet food brands in a compact space. Everything is laid out nicely unlike some other similarly-sized pet stores. What makes the experience great is the friendliness of the people who work here. You can tell they really care about their customers and the shopping experience. Prices are fairly reasonable. Similar to what you would find at other boutique pet stores. Probably about 10% more than Petco for the same products. Highly recommended if you're looking for some supplies for your furry friend in the LES / E. Village. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is one of the more expensive pet supply shops in the neighborhood. They advertise 1 free bag of Blue Buffalo food after purchasing 10. I've been shopping here since June 2016, with the clear intention of getting my free bag of food after purchasing 10. I shop for my pets' food here, monthly. However, the manager claims I only have 6 purchases on record. Clearly, I've purchased over a dozen by now. In October, he claimed I only had to purchase 2 more before I reached 10. Suddenly, I have to purchase 4 more. His attitude was very nonchalant as if he could care less if I was satisfied or not. These merchants in Harlem are not concerned with client service at all. read more

When this store first came into the neighborhood I was so excited. I really wanted to support them even tho they were more expensive. It was owned at the time by 2 brothers and a sister. The sister was great but one of the brothers was and is still a not so nice human being. If you buy a product that is bad and try to bring it back they do not except it. Even though on the package it clearly states to bring back to the store you bought it at. The staff are so afraid of him and you can see by the huge turnover they have. They often get rid of the nicest staff and keep the nasty ones. They also charge a debit minimum which is illegal and I quote from merchant maverick, "with few exceptions, the general rule is that you cannot impose a minimum purchase requirement for debit card transactions". The kid was petrified when I asked why he couldn't just let a few cents go. Bottom line is I just cannot support them even tho it's literally 100 of feet's from where I live. I rather walk to Happy Paws where they bend over backwards to accommodate their customers. Do not give a man your business when he treats his customers and staff employees like a POS. Integrity is everything. read more

We were here a few times to buy supplies for our dog. The shop is not so big, but big enough to find everything for the daily needs for your PET. The personal at the cash register is not so friendly. Th is may be because of too many tasks assigned. Such as answering de telefone, preparing received orders to send to clients. If something is sold out, they do not show interesses. "If it is not on the shelf, we do'nt have it" is the casual answer. Prices are reasonable. read more

They have Evangers canned wet food, and of SEVERAL varieties. It's a hard to find wet food (for cats and dogs) and it's hard to buy an entire case of a certain flavor when your dog is as picky as mine. Finding this product on shelves made me very happy. I've also noticed that other Petopia locations carry Evangers too. read more

I found bugs crawling in my dogs bone. Very unsanitary stores and the supposed Manager, Karen, refused to call me back after 3 phone calls. Every time I called to speak with her she was "in the back". If I could give zero I would. Zero customer service and really rude staff. Will be using Whiskers Holistic Pet Store going forward. Much nicer and highly knowledgeable staff. read more

I can't believe the bad reviews of their service--been shopping here for years and the kids who work there are so helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. I've lived in the East Village for 25 years and it's great to know there are still small businesses here that care about their customers. Thanks! read more

These guys are ok but I don't get all the ratings. Everyone talks about how nice these guys are and they are just ok. They seem to ignore me when I go in. No, can I help you? Or if i need help from them and ask, they act like I'm disturbing their f*cking lunch which always appears to be the case. They are always eating or on a break. They are well stocked and have awesome food for your furbabies but don't expect much friendliness out of them. Oh and their prices are just average if not more expensive than other places. I wonder if we're all talking about the same place? LOL The irony is they opened up a new Petopia on 14th Street, bet A and 1st Avenues and this place is definitely much nicer and cleaner. Guys are much friendlier in there as well. read more

I've been a monthly customer since Mike and Chris opened this location in the East Village. I always had really good customer service and they were always well stocked. Unfortunately they recently changed the Managers position with a woman who is always either too busy to take your order for delivery or can't take any more deliveries for the day even though u call at 6pm and they close at 8:30 OR she indicates they r not stocked with the food I've ordered for the past 15 years. it's too bad that they changed management in this location because they just lost a life long customer who generated approximately $150 in sales for them monthly! read more

Good selection of foods and treats for pets. I usually frequent the Murray Hill location and no complaints here! The staff is helpful and it's easy to find what you're looking for. Prices aren't cheap but they sometimes have sales on treats and such. I picked up a bag of "Mother Nature Treats" last week for 25% off and my dog goes wild for them. Definitely stop by if you are in closeby. read more

Great store. Always clean. Never cluttered. Friendly staff. I always find something my dog will love. She will be so excited !! read more

Sorry to say, this place has really gone downhill. I was happy when they first opened, because it was a clean & bright store, with more selection than the others in the neighborhood. The only reason they still get 2 stars, is because of the usually prompt, free delivery. But the customer service is virtually nill. There used to be a very nice, polite & helpful young Spanish guy who worked there when they first opened, who could answer questions about products & offer to find you something if they didn't have it. Now they have a bunch of brain-dead slackers, that it looks like they hired when some Hot Topic in Staten Island went out of business. The last time I was there, the "sales" girl spent the entire time on her cell phone, talking to her friend about her boy problems. This is for the duration of checking out me & 2 other cutomers. Did not even remove the phone from her ear when I was asking about a product, & told me they "never had" a product I had bought there a week before..... so they lost that additional sale. Meanwhile, the stock/delivery guy sat there slack-jawed & playing with the computer the whole time. No thanks, after being a steady customer since they opened, I'm going to stick with going to Whiskers, where they actually know things about pets & pet products, and give you rewards points. I'll only go to Petopia in a pinch, or if I have to get a delivery. read more

Irena and Vita (I think I got their names!) were INCREDIBLY helpful and kind A+++ customer service!

Will never shop here again. Been buying my dogs food here the last few months. Every two weeks I'd pop in to get a bag of Acana Puppy and Junior formula. I went in last week to buy the same for my dog as I always do and later that night he started to get slight diarrhea, but didn't think much of it. I fed him again the next morning and when I came home at lunch it was really bad, apartment was covered and he was in agony. I was quite confused as to what had been causing it, until I realised I had started him on a new bag of food. Needless to say I ceased using that bag of food and fed him some rice to help his belly. The diarrhea stopped a few hours later. I informed the store what had happened, and the associate spoke to the owner who offered an exchange/credit. I told them I wanted a refund, but the OWNER refused because it 'wasn't policy'. Absolutely ridiculous, and dreadful customer service over a $20 bag of food. Usually Acana has about an 18 month expiry from the time it's made, this only has about 3 weeks left--must have been sitting around a while. After I use up this credit, I will never shop here again. Many other local pet stores in the EV, LES area. read more

Recently, I stopped into Petopia and was overwhelmed by the selection. I needed to pick up dog treats and be on my way.
