I love having a local pet store with great prices. There's a tons of foods and supplies for your dog and cat in a very tight space so it can be awkward when you or others bring their dogs in and all they want to do is pilfer a snack or two. Not much for birds or small pets but when I ask if they can order parrot food they did. Workers are great. Much better than big name pet stores. They will help you get what your pet needs and even help fit them in a colors , harnesses etc. read more

Very nice pet store that must have opened recently. Great customer service, and stocks many rare products that I haven't found elsewhere. (like Fromm cheese treats) It's a little more expensive here than the pet stores in Williamsburg and Happy Paws of Houston St, but they stock their products well. This spot was my neighborhood go-to and convenient for sure. But a recent encounter here with a female employee (African American, multi-colored hair) will ensure I never spend another dollar there. After having just biked my heart out to make sure I didn't get there before closing, I approached the door at 10 minutes until 8:00pm, the door was locked, the female mentioned above unlocked the door and I asked if they were closed. Instead of replying yes or no (later found out their closing time was 8:00pm), she snapped "what are you buying? is it one thing?" I asked what that had to do with anything and she stated "cuz I have to count the register!" Finally, she acquiesced, I bought my ONE item and left, never to return. Customers have a say, whether these placed like it or not, and small businesses, as struggling as they claim to be, can't afford this type of behavior. But, as a sign of the times, they will laugh it off and nothing will be done. I'm glad other places carry the item I need. read more

Ruff life. Aside from the neutering part I'd say it's pretty alright being my cat, Max. He gets belly rubs on demand, new toys all the time, fancy organic pebbles of food, and a run of my apartment. Plus, I dole out the treats if he only stands on his hind legs. I mean, I do that all the time and nobody gives me treats. Well, as the human I must continue to indulge my little furry pal and to do so I turn to Petopia for the necessary supplies. I usually go to the outpost up on 14th but will stop into this smaller version when I'm south. I think it actually might be a bit more expensive than the one near Stuytown and has a smaller selection of goods, but it does the job. Plus, it may be a good thing that my spoiling is limited since I do want to make sure that Max knows the value of a dollar. read more

They always close early. And I don't mean they won't let people in after 8:25. I mean they've already closed out their till, shut down the registers, counted the money, locked the safe, shut the lights, armed the security, locked up and walked out the door by 8:25. This happened to me at least 5 or 6 times but I always felt I should take responsibility since I could have taken extra steps to make it there before 7:45, and I like supporting small local independent businesses. However this time I decided to confront them about it. Their response? "Yeah, so?" That's all they had to say to me. Like they're some hip club I should be lucky to get into. I've been in their position doing minimum wage work behind a counter, and even when customers are being unreasonable, you don't give them a jerkward attitude, and neither I nor my coworkers ever did. Yes, I know, loosing my business doesn't mean jack to them, and one stupid whiny review won't effect their overall rating assuming anyone even reads this. All I can say with objectivity is if it's after 7:30 and you're more than a block away, consider going to PetSmart (Broadway North of Houston, closes at 9pm), PetCo (Broadway and 17th, 10pm) or giving your pet scraps from the kitchen as backup plans. read more

When this store first came into the neighborhood I was so excited. I really wanted to support them even tho they were more expensive. It was owned at the time by 2 brothers and a sister. The sister was great but one of the brothers was and is still a not so nice human being. If you buy a product that is bad and try to bring it back they do not except it. Even though on the package it clearly states to bring back to the store you bought it at. The staff are so afraid of him and you can see by the huge turnover they have. They often get rid of the nicest staff and keep the nasty ones. They also charge a debit minimum which is illegal and I quote from merchant maverick, "with few exceptions, the general rule is that you cannot impose a minimum purchase requirement for debit card transactions". The kid was petrified when I asked why he couldn't just let a few cents go. Bottom line is I just cannot support them even tho it's literally 100 of feet's from where I live. I rather walk to Happy Paws where they bend over backwards to accommodate their customers. Do not give a man your business when he treats his customers and staff employees like a POS. This place is great. They have a huge selection of food and clothing for dogs, and although it is a bit pricey, the staff there is incredibly friendly. I asked them for a recommendation for a groomer and they gave me cards for like 6 groomers in the area and wrote little notes on the back of each one! They also have a great selection of cat paraphernalia as well. If you are in the East Village and you have a pet, this is definitely the place to go. OH! If I could give zero stars I would. This place is one of the more expensive pet supply shops in the neighborhood. They advertise 1 free bag of Blue Buffalo food after purchasing 10. I've been shopping here since June 2016, with the clear intention of getting my free bag of food after purchasing 10. I shop for my pets' food here, monthly. However, the manager claims I only have 6 purchases on record. Clearly, I've purchased over a dozen by now. In October, he claimed I only had to purchase 2 more before I reached 10. Suddenly, I have to purchase 4 more.His attitude was very nonchalant as if he could care less if I was satisfied or not. When there were dogs escaping the dog run as their owners went from one gate to the other--yakking on their cell phones, not paying attention, but still--Petopia stepped in to donate intermediate wire gates to make sure the dogs had an extra safety net to prevent their escape. I'm pretty impressed with that. The only reason I don't shop here more is that the vast majority of the products they carry are made with meat and animal by-products. I know, you're saying, "They're ANIMALS; they're supposed to eat ANIMALS." And most pet-supply stores carry mostly animal products--I know, I know. Actually, I go out of my way to get my dog and even my cats vegetarian food and treats. It's possible, and they're thriving. Fortunately, they do have Dick van Patten's Natural Balance Vegetarian formula here, a highly palatable food that omnivore dogs I've fostered also like. Really enjoy this pet store! They have all the essentials you need including top end pet food brands in a compact space. Everything is laid out nicely unlike some other similarly-sized pet stores. We were here a few times to buy supplies for our dog. The shop is not so big, but big enough to find everything for the daily needs for your PET. The personal at the cash register is not so friendly. Th is may be because of too many tasks assigned. Such as answering de telefone, preparing received orders to send to clients. If something is sold out, they do not show interesses. They have Evangers canned wet food, and of SEVERAL varieties. It's a hard to find wet food (for cats and dogs) and it's hard to buy an entire case of a certain flavor when your dog is as picky as mine. Finding this product on shelves made me very happy. I've been a monthly customer since Mike and Chris opened this location in the East Village. I always had really good customer service and they were always well stocked. Unfortunately they recently changed the Managers position with a woman who is always either too busy to take your order for delivery or can't take any more deliveries for the day even though u call at 6pm and they close at 8:30 OR she indicates they r not stocked with the food I've ordered for the past 15 years. it's too bad that they changed management in this location because they just lost a life long customer who generated approximately $150 in sales for them monthly! read more

Will never shop here again. Been buying my dogs food here the last few months. Every two weeks I'd pop in to get a bag of Acana Puppy and Junior formula. I went in last week to buy the same for my dog as I always do and later that night he started to get slight diarrhea, but didn't think much of it. I fed him again the next morning and when I came home at lunch it was really bad, apartment was covered and he was in agony. I was quite confused as to what had been causing it, until I realised I had started him on a new bag of food. Needless to say I ceased using that bag of food and fed him some rice to help his belly. The diarrhea stopped a few hours later. I informed the store what had happened, and the associate spoke to the owner who offered an exchange/credit. I told them I wanted a refund, but the OWNER refused because it 'wasn't policy'. Absolutely ridiculous, and dreadful customer service over a $20 bag of food. Usually Acana has about an 18 month expiry from the time it's made, this only has about 3 weeks left--must have been sitting around a while. After I use up this credit, I will never shop here again. These guys are ok but I don't get all the ratings. Everyone talks about how nice these guys are and they are just ok. They seem to ignore me when I go in. No, can I help you? Or if i need help from them and ask, they act like I'm disturbing their f*cking lunch which always appears to be the case. They are always eating or on a break. They are well stocked and have awesome food for your furbabies but don't expect much friendliness out of them. Oh and their prices are just average if not more expensive than other places. Good selection of foods and treats for pets. I usually frequent the Murray Hill location and no complaints here! The staff is helpful and it's easy to find what you're looking for. Prices aren't cheap but they sometimes have sales on treats and such. I picked up a bag of "Mother Nature Treats" last week for 25% off and my dog goes wild for them. Sorry to say, this place has really gone downhill. I was happy when they first opened, because it was a clean & bright store, with more selection than the others in the neighborhood. The only reason they still get 2 stars, is because of the usually prompt, free delivery. But the customer service is virtually nill. There used to be a very nice, polite & helpful young Spanish guy who worked there when they first opened, who could answer questions about products & offer to find you something if they didn't have it. Now they have a bunch of brain-dead slackers, that it looks like they hired when some Hot Topic in Staten Island went out of business. The last time I was there, the "sales" girl spent the entire time on her cell phone, talking to her friend about her boy problems. This is for the duration of checking out me & 2 other cutomers. Did not even remove the phone from her ear when I was asking about a product, & told me they "never had" a product I had bought there a week before..... so they lost that additional sale. Meanwhile, the stock/delivery guy sat there slack-jawed & playing with the computer the whole time. No thanks, after being a steady customer since they opened, I'm going to stick with going to Whiskers, where they actually know things about pets & pet products, and give you rewards points. I'll only go to Petopia in a pinch, or if I have to get a delivery. read more

decent, clean, local pet store that sells quality pet food. i come here all the time and they sell canned cat food by the case. the wellness cat food prices are pretty standard, but i know for a fact that the world's best kitty litter (only the best for my little man) is about 4 dollars more expensive than at pathmark, but still cheaper than petco. i believe they deliver, but we have not used that service. read more
