Hands down the best pet supply store I have been to in NYC/Brooklyn- and Ive been to many. They only sell quality food, treats, toys, supplies, etc and they are SO helpful. You can tell that the husband and wife that run this store LOVE what they do. There are several pet stores that are much closer to me that have larger selections of [overpriced and rather crappy] pet supplies but the owners of Love Thy Pet really do their research on what they carry in their store. THE BEST PET STORE!! This pet store is the best in the area by FAR. What sets this place apart is not really the things they sell, it's the people who work there. They are SO nice and they really, truly love pets. Like others have noted, they are knowledgeable and helpful. They have monthly adoption events. The owner even dresses up as santa for christmas and will take a picture with your pet for free! (feel free to donate to help them raise funds for adoption efforts) BOTTOM LINE: Every time we pass Union my dog tries to drag me down this street just to go to this store. Really. I'm going to add to the chorus and sing its praises. Love Thy Pet -- first, the name itself is awesome. The owners know every single item in the store and seem genuinely interested in animals. It's like having a friend of the family that also happens to love and care about cats and dogs. The owners are kind and down to earth people. I WANT to shop at the store to support their business. Love Thy Pet stocks useful products, and products they seem to believe in through word-of-mouth or experience. My only peeve is they don't have more selection, but I assume it's because they only stock products they think are worth it -- which is greatly appreciated and admirable. (Please don't change.) Wow, how much can I say about these folks that hasn't already been written? We're about to get a new puppy in a month, so we went to go check out this place in Carroll Gardens because of all the positive Yelp reviews. SUPER GLAD WE DID. The couple who run the store are amazing, spent about an hour with us answering questions, showing us good products, telling us what to stay away from, and even showing us their annual calendars and holiday parties for animals! I stumbled upon this gem when I moved into the neighborhood and I recommend it to everyone. From the moment you walk in, the owners are super friendly and very helpful. It is obvious that every person who work there genuinely cares about animals. I often ask for treat/food/toy advice and have never been steered wrong. Love Thy Pet offers higher quality pet food than any other in the downtown Brooklyn area (but this is in Gowanus) the shop had a huge assortment of both dog and cat food and one of the owners even offered my dog free house-made dog treats which my dog really enjoyed ! This place is wonderful. The people there genuinely love animals and they stock high quality food, treats, and other supplies. I highly recommend. My little dog Bella is often fearful in public and they were so kind and gentle with her, offered her some treats which she happily accepted. This store is small but has the perfect selection of items that are at decent prices. They have everything from organic dog shampoo to a nice selection of leashes, toys, poo bag holders, and food. And the items that the owners have chosen are all top quality. I can't stand going to those big box stores, and I find that a lot of the other pet shops tend to be smaller versions of them. And these guys are amazing to your dog too. Every time my dog walks even on the block we have to go to this store so that he can get pets and treats from the owners. It is a true neighborhood store. Not the best or biggest Pet Store I've been to (it's probably the smallest pet store I've been to) but still they had everything I happened to need when I went. They've got things for both dogs and cats (not sure I saw things for other types of pets, but then again I wasn't looking). The woman working here was very friendly and helpful and I'll be sure to make this my first stop next time I need something for my cats. BTW they do free pet photoshoots (with an appointment) with Santa during the holiday season (in their backyard I believe), a fantastic PR move and it's great to have a business like that in the community read more

I'm fairly new to the area, and this shop was recommended to me by a fellow dog walker I ran into. Love Thy Pet is a smaller shop with a welcoming feel to it. Reasonably priced, and a very personable shop owner always making sure to give my dog a treat on the way out. I asked for a dog food recommendation my first time visiting the shop, and I have used that brand ever since. It's not a common brand, which may have something to do with why I go back so frequently. In fact I explained my dogs diet and issues and they steered me towards the cheaper brand because it was the right choice. I really appreciate that. Their prices are honest, and the advice they give is priceless. Don't be afraid to ask questions here, each time I thought I had a really dumb question the answers that were provided were educated and made decision making so much easier. Even though I live farther away with plenty of boutique stores closer to me I find myself in Love Thy Pet simply because it feels great to support them and get what you need. I was hoping to pick up some cat food on my way home. It was 17 minutes to 8pm, which means this store was closing in 17 minutes. Apparently, that was too close to closing because when I walked in and said "hello" to the old man behind the counter, he said "What do you want? We're closing" in an extremely hostile manner. Really?? 17 minutes to 8pm and that's your response? I understand he's old and was probably on his feet too long but that is absolutely no excuse to be hostile to a customer. I love, Love thy pet, but not as much as my dog does. Every time we go there she is welcomed with a smile, a pet on the head and a treat. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the products are wonderful.
