Friendly husband-and-wife duo run the shop which, thankfully, is super-close to my apartment! If I ever get short on food, treats, litter, etc., i just pop out for 5 min & come back with my hands full. Unfortunately, for the neighborhood, they will be retiring soon. They hope to sell the business to somebody new. So hopefully it'll remain where is. (But I will miss them!) read more

This place has such a great variety of the best food for cats and dogs. It beats waiting for those delayed Chewy orders/ going into the utter sterile nightmare that's petco. The owners are super friendly (and have a new cat) and will get you whatever you need if they don't have it in stock. I feel good about supporting a local business and even better for not getting my soul sucked out by bad bix box florescent lighting. read more

PAMPER YOUR PET WHILE SUPPORTING A STORE WHO HELPS ITS COMMUNITY WITH MONTHLY ANIMAL ADOPTIONS! This store CANNOT be beat. The owners are friendly, helpful and truly care about their community. Every month they offer animal adoptions and give discounts on items for anyone who adopts. I love this about them! They have established LONG TERM, name-based relationships with the neighborhood patrons and offer advice and items based solely on each individual pet. Amazing store with items I cannot find in any other place (including big name chain stores) Filled with personalized name tags, gender/name/social specific custom made Doggie T Shirts, specialized shampoos, toys and treats, this store is the best there is! I have so many cat toys from this store I never saw anywhere else! Great healthy food, not found in chain stores as well! On holidays, they offer FREE pictures with santa, which I thought was GREAT! If you are walking your dog and stop in, there's sure to be a special treat just for your pet! A+++++ read more

i love this pet store. the owners are SO nice and extremely helpful. Ernie always gets lots of complimentary cookies. They also work w/ Sean Casey shelter and hold adoption events and are planning on holding doggie weddings/civil unions in the fall! umm..amazing! read more

Hands down the best pet supply store I have been to in NYC/Brooklyn- and Ive been to many. They only sell quality food, treats, toys, supplies, etc and they are SO helpful. You can tell that the husband and wife that run this store LOVE what they do. There are several pet stores that are much closer to me that have larger selections of [overpriced and rather crappy] pet supplies but the owners of Love Thy Pet really do their research on what they carry in their store. They only carry the best, they listen to customers feedback and their prices are the fairest Ive come across. From the outside the store doesnt look like much but its definitely worth checking out. I wouldnt go anywhere else. read more

THE BEST PET STORE!! This pet store is the best in the area by FAR. What sets this place apart is not really the things they sell, it's the people who work there. They are SO nice and they really, truly love pets. Like others have noted, they are knowledgeable and helpful. They have monthly adoption events. The owner even dresses up as santa for christmas and will take a picture with your pet for free! (feel free to donate to help them raise funds for adoption efforts) BOTTOM LINE: Every time we pass Union my dog tries to drag me down this street just to go to this store. Really. He loves it that much. If that's not the best pet store endorsement you can get, then I don't know is. read more

I'm going to add to the chorus and sing its praises. Love Thy Pet -- first, the name itself is awesome. The owners know every single item in the store and seem genuinely interested in animals. It's like having a friend of the family that also happens to love and care about cats and dogs. The owners are kind and down to earth people. I WANT to shop at the store to support their business. Love Thy Pet stocks useful products, and products they seem to believe in through word-of-mouth or experience. My only peeve is they don't have more selection, but I assume it's because they only stock products they think are worth it -- which is greatly appreciated and admirable. (Please don't change.) It's too bad I no longer shop here because I moved away from the neighborhood. read more

Wow, how much can I say about these folks that hasn't already been written? We're about to get a new puppy in a month, so we went to go check out this place in Carroll Gardens because of all the positive Yelp reviews. SUPER GLAD WE DID. The couple who run the store are amazing, spent about an hour with us answering questions, showing us good products, telling us what to stay away from, and even showing us their annual calendars and holiday parties for animals! Chris and his wife are truly good people who care about animals; you can tell from the first moment you start talking to them. We'll definitely be giving them our business from now on. Thanks again you two! read more

I stumbled upon this gem when I moved into the neighborhood and I recommend it to everyone. From the moment you walk in, the owners are super friendly and very helpful. It is obvious that every person who work there genuinely cares about animals. I often ask for treat/food/toy advice and have never been steered wrong. They carry hard-to-find, specialty foods as well as more mainstream items and, for a smaller store, they have a pretty good selection. You want to shop here. Your pets want you to shop here. My guys love the Christmastime Santa photoshoot, too! read more

I had a bunch of questions when it came to switching my dog food from a regular store brand to one of their quality brands, and was blown away by the level of service the store owner provided me. She was able to answer all my questions and I found her recommendations extremely helpful! I work right around the corner and will frequent often! Very awesome place! Love the variety of treats and toys! read more

This store is small but has the perfect selection of items that are at decent prices. They have everything from organic dog shampoo to a nice selection of leashes, toys, poo bag holders, and food. And the items that the owners have chosen are all top quality. I can't stand going to those big box stores, and I find that a lot of the other pet shops tend to be smaller versions of them. And these guys are amazing to your dog too. Every time my dog walks even on the block we have to go to this store so that he can get pets and treats from the owners. It is a true neighborhood store. And we haven't taken him for photos with santa yet, but it is super cute to see their album of it. read more

This place is wonderful. The people there genuinely love animals and they stock high quality food, treats, and other supplies. I highly recommend. My little dog Bella is often fearful in public and they were so kind and gentle with her, offered her some treats which she happily accepted. Before I knew it she was no longer shaking but wagging her tail and happily sniffing around. Definitely bring your dog shopping with you. read more

Not the best or biggest Pet Store I've been to (it's probably the smallest pet store I've been to) but still they had everything I happened to need when I went. They've got things for both dogs and cats (not sure I saw things for other types of pets, but then again I wasn't looking). The woman working here was very friendly and helpful and I'll be sure to make this my first stop next time I need something for my cats. BTW they do free pet photoshoots (with an appointment) with Santa during the holiday season (in their backyard I believe), a fantastic PR move and it's great to have a business like that in the community read more

Love Thy Pet offers higher quality pet food than any other in the downtown Brooklyn area (but this is in Gowanus) the shop had a huge assortment of both dog and cat food and one of the owners even offered my dog free house-made dog treats which my dog really enjoyed ! The lady who helped me was also very lnowledgable about the selection they offered and had some suggestions for me due to her extensive background ! read more

Love Thy Pet - Zoey at the Halloween party! - Pet Stores Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I'm fairly new to the area, and this shop was recommended to me by a fellow dog walker I ran into. Love Thy Pet is a smaller shop with a welcoming feel to it. Reasonably priced, and a very personable shop owner always making sure to give my dog a treat on the way out. I asked for a dog food recommendation my first time visiting the shop, and I have used that brand ever since. It's not a common brand, which may have something to do with why I go back so frequently. Overall, friendly, affordable shop. I take pride in supporting this small business rather than large corporation franchises. read more

The guy, the cat, the store, the goods - this place is top notch. You can just tell that this place is all about quality. Definitely feel free to ask questions because you'll learn a lot of background info and make an informed choice. This place is seriously awesome! read more

Love this store! Amazing family owned business, great cat food, everything I need in one amazing little shop!

Been coming here for the 6 years I've lived in the neighborhood. I've since moved further away from their store but go out of my way to shop here. Family run business who are extremely helpful and friendly. They always have a great selection at good prices. Highly recommend! read more

I trust them. And I'm not easily won over. Especially when it comes to my dog. They know their stuff and don't push you to make the more expensive purchase. In fact I explained my dogs diet and issues and they steered me towards the cheaper brand because it was the right choice. I really appreciate that. Their prices are honest, and the advice they give is priceless. Don't be afraid to ask questions here, each time I thought I had a really dumb question the answers that were provided were educated and made decision making so much easier. Even though I live farther away with plenty of boutique stores closer to me I find myself in Love Thy Pet simply because it feels great to support them and get what you need. All in all they are a great community store with their adoption events and free Santa pictures around the holidays. read more

I was hoping to pick up some cat food on my way home. It was 17 minutes to 8pm, which means this store was closing in 17 minutes. Apparently, that was too close to closing because when I walked in and said "hello" to the old man behind the counter, he said "What do you want? We're closing" in an extremely hostile manner. Really?? 17 minutes to 8pm and that's your response? I understand he's old and was probably on his feet too long but that is absolutely no excuse to be hostile to a customer. Fortunately, the pet supply store on Court St. is friendly and welcoming to ALL their customers. read more

Thank God we have Love Thy Pet in the neighborhood. We get all of Steve the Dog's food, treats and toys here. They have a big variety of high-quality and healthy stuff. The owners are welcoming and you can trust their advice. They have regular adoption days, and last Christmas you could get your pet's photo taken with Santa. read more

It was quite possibly the best pet store I've ever been in. I wish that we had one of these where I live however we were visiting but picked up lots of great items for our pets. read more

love thy pet is one of my most favorite things about living in new york. the owners and staff are beyond friendly and helpful and never try to push anything on you unneccessarily. you can tell how much they care about animals and they take their job seriously. their prices are great, they have a tiny spot but with a wide-range of products and they deliver for free! absolutely incredible place that makes me feel lucky to be a pet owner. read more

This is the best pet store in NYC. The inventory is well stocked with top quality products (eg, acana, zignature, taste of the wild, etc.), prices are fantastic, and the owners/employees are extremely knowledgable, unpretentious, and helpful. Highly recommend to all pet owners in the five boroughs. read more

The best local pet store. Period. Friendly owners, who genuinely care about animals and their well being. The store cat Mr. Menow is a real celebrity too, always wanting to be pet and loved at the counter! Support local businesses and shop here. read more

Exceptional family owned business that I enjoy supporting. I shop here specifically for my Primal frozen cat food (which is well-priced) and other occasional items. The staff is knowledgeable and extremely friendly. I like the frequent-buyer program for my food. And it's cool that they support local pet-related causes. read more

Love Thy Pet gets the coveted 5 Paws rating from our Dachshund... and he's a bit of a snob. It's a family-run shop with a strong selection of food, toys, and treats for cats and dogs. The owners are very friendly and always willing to give advice and/or provide tasty treats to their canine customers (whether their humans are just stopping in or actually buying)... which probably explains the 5 Paws rating among the neighborhood's furry quadrupeds. read more

Best pet store in the area! They have a good selection of quality foods. (Our BT has food allergies, and we use Natural Balance Limited Ingredients and they have at least 7 flavors.) Today we went in and the man who runs the place helped fit our dog with a new coat, plus he helped us with some socialization exercise for our anxiety-ridden dog. Great experience! read more

Ok so I guess I'll be another one to write a positive review. I just love the fact a small business cares so much about their products and prides themselves on personal service. How cool is that? I think it's important for all of us to support local businesses so we don't have a Starbucks on every corner so I'm glad Love Thy Pet makes it so easy. Went in there with a small group of people, I wanted to get a chew toy for my friends dog and the staff is really friendly and super helpful, not pushy at all. I was amazed on their selection and I could tell the owner really love animals which is an obvious plus. You can bring your pet in too which is fun for them and I guess the people as well, makes it more enjoyable to shop when you see a cute dog with it's owner in an isle. ' If you're in the area, stop by, you'll be happy you did. read more

I'm a new dog owner and this will definitely be my go to pet shop from now on. The lady (owner I believe) who helped was very kind and knowledgeable. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place - well stocked with quality items and fair prices, if they don't have it, ask and they are more than happy to get it because they care about you + your pet and sincerely want your business. The owners, Chris + Steph are delightful and knowledgeable. They tirelessly support our neighborhood dog park, host adoption events, host an annual halloween party and oh yes, pictures with Santa! It's become a tradition in our house to go get pictures with Santa! I recommend this store to anyone with pets! read more

This little shop is amazing. Perfect selection of everything I need to take good care of my cat and superbly friendly, kind, and honest owners. I have been warned against buying a significantly higher priced carrier because it was overkill for the short vet trips my cat takes; how often does a business convince you not to spend sixty plus dollars? Recently ordered from the shop and my goods were delivered by the wife of the owner duo, who refused a tip even when I insisted (she deserved it!). Give this animal-loving local shop your support! read more

I love, Love thy pet, but not as much as my dog does. Every time we go there she is welcomed with a smile, a pet on the head and a treat. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the products are wonderful. You can really tell they all love animals so much, the owner even dresses as Santa Claus every year so you can have your dog take a picture with him (which they email to you) for free. I am so happy this place is only a few blocks from my apartment. read more

I have lived in this area for almost 15 years, and have had my beloved cat for about 10. I was thrilled when this store moved in, as it was evident that they had style, knowledge, quality products, and a giving spirit. Each year they take Christmas photos of neighborhood pets for free, you have to sign up beforehand, and sponsor countless animal adoption events. They are good and caring people, and the store is always immaculate and well stocked. Come and visit the best pet store in the NY area, and beyond, I am sure! Local pet owner. read more

Fabulous store! The owner and employees are very knowledgeable and particular with the products they sell. Everything is priced extremely reasonably. I switched to an all natural food, and the cost is just about the same as the commercial brand I was using (about $1 more). They also do fun events for the community like a Halloween party and pictures with Santa! A true neighborhood store. I will be hard pressed to find a store with such compassion and dedication to their customers, both 2 legged and 4, when I leave Cobble Hill. read more
