I've never had to go through an adjustment period with any of the glasses I've gotten from him, which says a lot about the care and attention he puts into his work. It's also great to support a local small business that genuinely cares about its patients. I saw Dr. Dang back then and got the standard set of eye tests, and he found the parameters for my prescription. They have a large selection of frames, and I ended up with a nice pair of Oakleys that I still have to this day. Since I no longer have vision insurance, I have gotten new lenses a few times over the years from Costco. Since I got the frames here, I stop by once every few years when something doesn't feel right, or if the nose pads seem worn. Diane always seems to be at the front desk, and amazingly remembers me every time I walk in the door even though it is pretty infrequent. She is always so friendly and helpful, and adjusts my frames perfectly every time. I really should get a quote for new lenses from them next time, maybe it is not that much of a difference even without insurance. Dr. Dang was great, and Diane is the best. I would recommend Visual Effects Optometry.

Anyone with children knows the stress of taking them to a new doctor. But Dr. Mike and his staff seemed very experienced with little ones and made the whole experience fun for her while giving an efficient and thorough eye exam. Dr. Mike especially knew how to engage with her and make her feel excited about playing games to check her vision. My daughter loved it so much she pouted when we had to leave and chattered on the way home about looking forward to going back. For my exam Dr. Mike was efficient but took time to listen and address my concerns and hooked me up with a new set of glasses that I can't wait to use! 10/10 would recommend!

First attempt was just before lunch, voice mail with greeting stating on odd address 1601 E Chapman... I hung up not knowing the true situation at this point. I tried again a few hours later at 330 pm. I confirmed my appointment but learned Dr. Mike's schedule is Tu-Th and he did join AFEC. The receptionist did tell me that I needed to change my appointment because it landed on a Friday. So I told her I'd call back after I reviewed my calendar. I was fortunate that I was going to be down in the OC area to have a get together dinner. So I called back to officially change my appointment to a Tuesday. I got the low down from the office manager at AFEC about Mike's move. But I won't spill it here. I hope Dr. Mike is happy with his new place. I'll definitely give AFEC a review as well in October.

Melinda made it easy to schedule my surgery at the Newport Beach NVISION center. The day of surgery was super easygoing...from check-in, my final eye exam and scans, to my 6-minute surgery on both eyes! David, the office manager, is very straightforward, sometimes blunt, but always clear and helpful. WTH, she gets taken ahead of me to do her standard testing before me??? Whatever, it's definitely unappreciated, moving on, minus one star. My time's valuable too. I'm assuming that my optician wasn't ready to test yet as she wasn't the same person I observed earlier. Okay, examination time. I did one standard test, then was asked if I want to have the retinal images done for $29! Haha, later talked to Dr. Mike, he said every other year is fine. Maybe I had forgotten that there's a fee for this imaging. We move on to a different room and my periferal vision done the old fashioned way without a machine? It was one of those "how many fingers an I holding up" test. Then we did a pressure test with a tiny hand held tool. A very different experience from the prior year. We did a check of my 2 current glasses, one of them was my photochromic sunglasses. Both of them were very close to each other in prescription. On to the exam with Dr. Mike... Since I declined the retinal imaging, he did the dilation drops. I'm hindsight, I should have asked for the disposable sunglasses. It was so uncomfortable driving on a bright day afterwards, almost unbearable. Or be sure to have extra dark sunglasses in your car. He did the standard lens checking next. We did that, is 1 or 2 better thing with that massive machine in my face. The result was very little change. I guess I'll have to request the prescription electronically as I was not given a print out. Dr. Mike friendly as he's always been. His care is top notch, the best optometrist ever in my opinion. Parking: there's plenty of street parking as this medical office is in a residential neighborhood. However, in the rear of the building, there are a few spaces and one for disabled with a wheel chair ramp up to the back entrance.
