I recently visited Lenhardt Optometric group for me and my 3 year old daughter's yearly eye exam. Dr. Mike and Desiree exceeded my expectations. Anyone with children knows the stress of taking them to a new doctor. But Dr. Mike and his staff seemed very experienced with little ones and made the whole experience fun for her while giving an efficient and thorough eye exam. Dr. Mike especially knew how to engage with her and make her feel excited about playing games to check her vision. My daughter loved it so much she pouted when we had to leave and chattered on the way home about looking forward to going back. For my exam Dr. Mike was efficient but took time to listen and address my concerns and hooked me up with a new set of glasses that I can't wait to use! 10/10 would recommend! read more

FYI! Dr. Mike has moved to Allred Family Eye Care down the street! OMG! I had no idea. Thankfully, I called the LOG phone number which transferred me to AFEC. First attempt was just before lunch, voice mail with greeting stating on odd address 1601 E Chapman... I hung up not knowing the true situation at this point. I tried again a few hours later at 330 pm. I confirmed my appointment but learned Dr. Mike's schedule is Tu-Th and he did join AFEC. The receptionist did tell me that I needed to change my appointment because it landed on a Friday. So I told her I'd call back after I reviewed my calendar. I was fortunate that I was going to be down in the OC area to have a get together dinner. So I called back to officially change my appointment to a Tuesday. I got the low down from the office manager at AFEC about Mike's move. But I won't spill it here. I hope Dr. Mike is happy with his new place. I'll definitely give AFEC a review as well in October. read more

Dr. Mike is awesome! But this review isn't about him. I don't like to be one to complain without a solution or some constructive criticism. To the administrative staff, please don't give lead times with utmost certainty if you weren't given a certain arrival time from the manufacturers or vendors you purchase from. I had my appointment in early June to get new contact lenses. Upon leaving they told me my trial lenses would be in within a few days. It's more than 1 month past now. I got an email saying they'd ship out July 15, so I called on the 16th to get an eta and they said WITH CERTAINTY, they'd be in within a few days. Well it's been more than a few days. I even doubted the person I was talking to but she seemed positive. Come to find out, they don't actually get arrival times, so.... I understand delays and feel I've been patient enough and really didn't want to have to write a review. But just don't say you know when you actually don't know. That way I could've ordered elsewhere and saved myself some time. read more

So friendly and professional! My kid loved him. He is usually shy but not around DR. Mike! He made sure my little one felt safe and cared.

Dr. Mike is great he's always very thorough, great at communicating, friendly and all around a nice person. He just helped me tweak my most recent prescription from Kaiser that was too strong and causing me to strain my eyes more. The 3D eye imaging that his office provides to check for potential health issues is also great! I started taking these photos back in 2013 and it's nice to be able to compare the old photos to the new to see if my eye health has changed. Even if you don't have vision insurance it's worth spending the extra money to get proper care Dr. Mike provides. read more

We switched over to Lenhardt Optometric about a year ago and have found Dr. Mike and his staff to be especially nice and helpful. I was nervous about switching to a new doctor. I had been with my previous doctor for close to 20 years, so changing offices was a big deal. I am so happy I did! They got me in quickly and are always so nice when we come in. They do our exams, prescriptions for our glasses, and even order my contacts. My son recently ordered his first pair of glasses here too, and he really loves his new frames and the great staff here as well. I have been going here for about 4 years and have ordered contact lenses and 2 pairs of glasses. The staff is always so great and Dr. Mike is just the friendliest and meticulous eye doctor ever. He takes so much time in eye exams and in answering questions. I also go regularly to get my glasses tightened about every 3 months. PRO-TIP: Call in advance to make sure they are not too busy, so that they can do it in under 10 minutes. I don't think their eyewear collection is as varied as I'd like. Or maybe my style is just too particular. I'm always looking for non-metal cat-eyeish glasses that aren't black and somehow still haven't found them here. GERMAPHOBE ALERT: None noted. I was given the wrong prescription not once but twice. The 1st one was only for distance when I need both. The second one they sent me was for my progressives but had the wrong birthday on it. After getting my glasses the prescription is so blurry I can't see out of them. I'm so beyond frustrated that I've waited all this time and had to fight and reach out multiple times to get my full prescription to only find out it's inaccurate again. This place needs retraining. Training needs to be done with the girls in the front who are processing this information. Other things that happened are: claiming they don't have me on file; claiming they don't have my phone or email; me having to correct my family history because it was filled out wrong on the computer. APPARENTLY PRICES HAVE CHANGED. As of today, June 27, 2019 prices are $149.00 for an eye exam and in addition $125.00 for contact lenses exam. They told me I can't just do the contact lenses exam. UGH. Yes I am a past customer. But that doesn't matter here. In 2016 I paid $112.00 for an eye exam. In the year 2017 , I paid $89.60 for an eye exam. In 2018 I did not go for an eye exam. In 2019, they want $149.00 for an eye exam. I do not understand their prices- going up and down depending on you you get on the phone. Don't get Desiree on the phone. In 2017, i did not want the eye drops in my eyes as I already see an Opthamologist regularly- perhaps that is the reason it was $89.60. I did not make an appointment for 2019. Keeping the stars at 4 until later when I have my exam here or elsewhere. Slowly losing a customer. read more

I heard of Lenhardt and his office from a colleague. It lived up to the hype. I hadn't had an eye exam in over 10 years. I started noticing fatigue and blurred vision depending on my work load, which is seating in front of a triple screen interpreting x-rays for half of my work day. The office is very tidy, clean and orderly. The location is convenient and has plenty of parking . The staff is remarkably obliging and helpful. Description and benefits of my insurance coverage was made crystal. Dr. Lenhardt is honest, tentative, professional and comprehensive. Doctor Mike is a very nice and caring optometrist, however his office staff needs to be trained or replaced to be more professional and responsible with the patients. I went in for an appointment and was excited to be getting my new pair of glasses, however after a week I called to see if they were in and they said they hadn't arrived yet. After waiting 2 weeks and no phone call I called again and they somehow realized my glasses were never sent in. I will never go back to this place. read more

I really like Dr. Lenhardt and the way he approaches the practice. I have had two annual exams now and the process went smoothly each time. I honestly think he is one of the best in the business. However, the reliability of the staff retuning phone calls is only so-so and really needs a bit of improvement. Even worse is their reliability in staying open during their advertised hours. Their phone message says they are open Monday through Friday until 5:30. On three occasions, including today, they closed early at 4:30 and I happened to arrive after 4:30 but before 5:00. Each time I have needed to pick up my contact lenses, and I specifically chose this establishment for their convenient hours. I am quite upset that this happened yet again, and now I feel I should warn people about it. Even Yelp says they are open until 5:30 on their verified listing as of this writing. I attached a screenshot to this review for reference. They should at least put a sign out to inform that they closed early, but they didn't even have the courtesy to do that. Very disappointing to say the least, and certainly not professional as I would have expected. I am not sure if I will be returning for the third annual exam next year even though the doctor himself is excellent at what he does. What to do...this will be a tough decision. read more

They never answer their phone and they act they are doing you a favor when they pick up. Front desk personnel are a mess. In person they are nice and so is the doctor but the administration leaves allot to be desired. Rule number one of any successful business is to greet your customers immediately. I've walked out of so many places because I did not feel welcomed and valued. It's a shame; I thought that they could have been my optometrist for a while because of the proximity but It seems that I will have to find another. I sincerely hope they get it together; allot times it's not the Doctor that makes the practice fail rather it's his staff that kills it. read more

Update: the glasses and my husbands contacts arrived in the mail today. No contact solution, no sample contacts and no cases. Put on my sunglasses and they make me sick when I look at the ground, compared to my old pair there is definitely something going on since they give me wobbly vision when I move my head. So I guess that was a trip wasted and 5 weeks waiting for nothing. We went back to Lenhardt because we wanted to see Dr. Mike. He's great. My husband scheduled us a Saturday appointment, and we arrive to find that Dr. Mike is nowhere to be found and we were seen by another Dr, a woman and unfortunately I don't recall her name. She was nice enough, she did a pretty thorough assessment and saw us both at the same time which I asked for since we were in a hurry. No one told him that we wouldn't be seeing Dr. Mike. Now, we went to the front desk to order contacts and glasses - my husband ordered contacts. Dr. Mike usually sends him home with a handful of samples to try out which are basically "extra" contacts that my husband can use in an emergency. Definitely adds value to the visit. We didn't get any of those this time. Now my sunglasses. Here's where shit begins to unravel. Two years ago I ordered prescription sunglasses through them. They arrive (two years ago) and come to find out they had ordered the wrong frames. I kept them anyway because I didn't want to wait another 10 days to get the replacements. This year, I ordered the SAME frames, SAME prescription, and the only difference is they offered me darker lenses (I said hell yes). The lady gives me the 10 business day spiel and I say OK, no problem. My current sunglasses are SCRATCHED to hell but I can make it work for 10 days. That brings us here. 4 1/2 weeks after my appointment, where I have called FOUR times now to find out where my glasses are. Monday 11/13 she said that they were in process at the lab and she would call the lab and call me back. 11/17 I called again, after getting no call back, and asked the same question, and got the same response. "They are in process at the lab, I will call and see where they're at." Got a call back, saying that the "lab is finished and they shipped them out and they would be here tomorrow." Tomorrow, as in, 11/18. Guess what? No call. I called this morning and asked again, where are my glasses that I guess got lost in the oblivion? She says, let me check and proceeds to put me on hold for 5 minutes. She calls back (I missed the call) - I call her back (she says she left a voice message but I didn't get a voicemail). She says the "glasses have been shipped and they will be here tomorrow." Tomorrow, as in 11/21. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. What the heck? how does it take 4.5 weeks to get prescription sunglasses?! I mentioned my frustration, and she said she would take a note and give us 10% off on our visit next year. I laughed. REALLY? A WHOLE 10%?! I think not, I will be taking my business elsewhere next year. I still haven't received my glasses. I will update accordingly when I do. read more

Still the BEST physician I have ever gone to. My eyes cannot thank Dr. Mike enough. Two years ago I regretfully went elsewhere for laser eye, immediately I had trouble with night vision and dry eyes. Multiple follow ups later with the other doc and I was told "it takes time to get better, just keep using drops, it's a side effect to the laser." I WAS MISERABLE FOR 2 YEARS!! My biggest regret is not coming to see Dr. Mike sooner. I thought I needed glasses again, he tells me my eyes are so severely dry that my corneas were literally dying. My dry eyes were the culprit to horrible night vision. I left his office YESTERDAY with a regimen to assist with the dry eyes. Today my eyes are extremely comfortable, no longer red and my vision has already improved 75%. Dr. Mike is an eye saver, thank you!! read more

Sorry, I guess I'm going have to break their streak. Opps. First of all, I purchased a Groupon with them. Couldn't even make an appointment with the Optometrist. I called periodically 4x since the end of June. First time, I was put on hold for 10 mins. I hung up after that, it seems that I've been forgotten. The next 3 times I called, they told me they are all booked for a good 3 weeks every single time. I've been kinda turn off by the receptionist's tone of voice, she didn't sound too pleasant. They are all booked for appointments, they close early (5:30 PM) M-F, they close on Sundays, and only work when they want to on Saturdays. What kind of hours is that?!! How do they accommodate people who work M-F? It's almost been a month trying to schedule. I just went to another Optometry place yesterday and already had my eye exam. They open Sunday-Saturday until 7 pm, and they were $10 cheaper then my Groupon too! Beat that! I understand they are getting a good flow of people coming in with groupons and yelp deals, but at least open up your hours to accommodate more people or don't have deals at all if they don't know how to handle them!!! read more

They do not value customers. You are lucky if everything goes smooth there, and if there're problems, YOU are the one who won't be happy! My first visit for spectacle glass prescription was very pleasant, everyone was nice and I was diagnosed serious dry eyes. They give me advices and eyedrops, only if they said they will follow up in 2 weeks but no one did. My second visit was also good as I went back to buy more eyedrops. They sold me 3 boxes of Retaine CMC eye drops (30 sterile each) that all expired over half a year! I have put something expired over 6 months into my eyes, still I called them and asked nicely if I could get a replacement shipped to me freely, in the case that 1) I do not live very close and I don't have the time and effort to visit again by that time; 2) I have $5 store credit left. YET they ask me $5 extra for shipping that little thing, and the doctor's reasoning: FIRST, it was their supplier's fault, if they don't give something near the expiration, I wouldn't get it. SECOND, there's no risk at all as long as the eyedrops are sealed so why should I be upset. THIRD, if I bought from Walgreens, they won't ship for me for free. In conclusion, I should pay for their mistake, and I shouldn't make a fuss, maybe continue use the expired eyedrops since it's totally ok according to the Dr. And a repeated customer is certainly not valued over $5. Do you wanna be the one? *Btw, they charge avg $50 higher than the market price for the designer sunglasses. I checked Rayban only, cannot speak for other brands or products. read more

It's kind of a sad state of affairs when you have to use Groupon/LivingSocial/AmazonDeals/GoogleOffers in lieu of insurance to get what you need, but for once, I'm sort of glad that happened, because it helped me find this office. This is definitely my optical office from here on out. I, of course, checked Yelp before buying the deal, and bought with confidence. Now I'm adding to the stack of five star reviews, because this office deserves nothing less. First, despite having bought an Amazon Local Deal, which often leads to a big influx of clients, they were able to fit me in at my requested time (at the end of the work day--often a hard appointment to get) in 2 weeks. For a non-emergency service, this is completely reasonable, I feel. Second, I loved being able to fill out all my paperwork online before arriving at the office. Demographics, medical history, insurance info (none, that was easy!), the whole deal. And then, arriving at the office to find that they HAD everything I'd submitted, and didn't have an additional five forms to fill out. So nice to have an office that embraces technology AND does it right. This really helped minimize the time I had to spend in the office, which was great because I had a baby to feed waiting for me at home. The staff was great, and Dr. Mike was very easy to talk to and really went over everything in depth with me, making sure every question I had was answered. He made sure to make me aware of everything he saw in my eyes, in case I were to ever go anywhere else in the future (I won't!), instead of just furtively making chart notes the whole time like some docs do. Seriously, if I could design my own eye doctor, it'd basically be Dr. Mike. I can't remember a more flawless medical experience. If I could find a GP exactly like Dr. Mike, I'd be a SUPER happy camper. My only complaint about the entire visit is that the glasses are pricey. Now, I know glasses are always pricey, but in the era of Zenni and Coastal, you have to at least be a little competitive, and none of the brick and mortar shops seem to be doing so. That being said, when I made my budget concerns known, they did make a special effort to check back stock and dig for less pricey frames, and I ended up with a pair that was considerably less than the majority of what was on display. Even so, with my Amazon Local Deal, which included $150 towards glasses, I still ended up paying $150 out of pocket. My family is surviving on a shoestring budget, so this was hard for me to deal with, but it is what it is. I'm certainly not going to ding them a star because I am broke and/or a cheapskate. If you're in need of an eye doc, look no further. Dr. Mike is your guy. UPDATE 12/31/12 - My baby decided to poke the hell out of my eye yesterday (it hurts a lot, I don't recommend it), and Dr. Mike squeezed me in at the last minute on New Year's Eve just to make sure everything was alright in there (it was, more or less). He got me checked out, gave me drops, and made sure I could afford everything. I cannot recommend Dr. Mike enough. If there was a sixth star I could add to the review, I would! Best best best! UPDATE 11/21/13 - This entire office is still completely stellar, and they've added more affordable eyeglass options. This review now qualifies as "epic" in length. Why are you still reading? My experience here was great. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They work to give discounts where they can, which I greatly appreciate. I agree with some of the former statements people have posted regarding time. Make sure you have enough time to wait. However know that they will spend a lengthy amount of time with you as well. Not wasted time but time spent understanding your symptoms and examining your eyes. You can't discount that. I'm looking forward to my follow up exam. read more

I think this has to do with their excellent customer service. I went in not necessarily in a hurry, but in a panic because I recently lost my glasses AND had to renew my license and would not get my new DL unless I passed that eye exam with the tiny letters. Yeah. That one. Well, mike was very, what I call, sympathique and thorough about my eye sight. He worked well with me helping me get the most out of my updated eye exam.
