I had an urgent situation where I needed to get a prescription for pickup. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was told it would be emailed to me, so I waited--but never received anything.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I called back to check on the delay, I was told their scanner was broken. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Given the urgency, I would have expected a proactive call to let me know so I could make other arrangements.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What's frustrating is that after the delay, they suddenly were able to email the prescription anyway. The lack of communication and nonchalant attitude throughout the process felt unprofessional and unreliable. Because of this experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I first came to Visual Effects Optometry about eight years ago to get my first set of prescription eyeglasses before I was about to lose my vision insurance. I saw Dr. Dang back then and got the standard set of eye tests, and he found the parameters for my prescription. They have a large selection of frames, and I ended up with a nice pair of Oakleys that I still have to this day. Since I no longer have vision insurance, I have gotten new lenses a few times over the years from Costco. Since I got the frames here, I stop by once every few years when something doesn't feel right, or if the nose pads seem worn. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Diane always seems to be at the front desk, and amazingly remembers me every time I walk in the door even though it is pretty infrequent. She is always so friendly and helpful, and adjusts my frames perfectly every time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really should get a quote for new lenses from them next time, maybe it is not that much of a difference even without insurance. Parking on birch street is easily available as they have two multi-story structures within 5 minute walking distance. Location of this office is the beautiful downtown Brea promenade. Plenty of places to eat and drink on the same street as the optometrist. Frame selection is reasonable and not overwhelming, and the staff helped me decide my frames and gave me great suggestions. Diana and Michael are very friendly, knowledgeable and are on top of things; they provide courteous, efficient service and helpful advice, and they are wonderful with follow through (e.g. gathering all the recipts/paperwork for rebates; contacting for appts etc.). We have since moved away from the area but still make the nearly 1.5 hour drive for our annual exams, contacts and glasses because the service here cannot be beat. While other businesses may decline in customer service and upkeep over the years, the same cannot be said here. You will not find more kind, professional and skilled staff than here at Visual Effects Optometry. I'm sad to say my amazing experience has quickly gone south. My initial consultation was great, or so I thought. I went with their recommendations of scratch proof coating and transition lenses. Fast forward 14 months later, the scratch proof coating did not prevent scratches for one. Second, the scratch proof coating is now randomly chipping off, leaving a weird light patches throughout the lenses. Not only is this off putting to look through, it's causing dizziness. When I reached out to Visual Effects, they just agreed that it was in fact a hinderance, but the scratch free coating expired 2 months ago. I've had glasses for 3+ years without issues of scratching or a coating just randomly coming off and I take care of my glasses meticulously. Sadly, this is what my experience has come to. read more

I've been here about 3 times now over more than a decade, usually to get written documentation for the DMV of an eye condition I have whenever they call me in to test my vision. Every time, I've been given a thorough eye exam. The last time I visited an ophthalmologist as referred to by my PCP, I felt like I was on a conveyer belt with a bunch of other patients, and I didn't feel like I received the thorough attention I used to get from my childhood ophthalmologist. I didn't even get a straight answer whether I had developed secondary cataracts or not. At Visual Effects, they make me feel like I'm their only patient and the health of my eyes matters the most to them. And, I got a straight answer that yes, I've developed slight secondary cataracts. I have been to this optometry a few times for eye exams. They have a big selection of frames to pick from. Great brands as well. I did not purchase any frames from here because I felt the price was a little high for their frames. I was able to get my Rx and find frames at another place for a better price. I did purchase contacts here. Contacts are also more expensive here than other place. Only reason I purchased here was because they gave me a discount for a year supply and qualified for an additional discount through mail in rebate. Even with these two discounts the price is comparable ($3 difference) to another place (and that's without any discount). Staff is super friendly. The ladies at the front dest have always been super sweet and a lot of help! No private parking, but there is street parking and a parking structure near by. Nice clean place. I will definitely be going back to this place for eye exams. read more
