One of the best VSP providers around. I really enjoyed our experience with Aloha Family Optometry. Everyone was very kind, patient and welcoming. They handled my youngest child with a lot of patience and care and didn't even make us feel bad about it. They have a wide range of frames - they also had my preferred brand (ray ban). They also had a lot of nice options around lenses. I have super sensitive eyes and my prescription is thick. It was nice that I could get high index anti-glare lenses with protective anti-blue light coating. This is the bare minimum I need otherwise I can't drive at night. They also offer transitions on-top of that too, which was also cool. One of the best VSP supported options out there. The doctors were super nice and very thorough in the examination. To ensure that I'm providing an honest review, I do have to say that they offer you a lot of upsells around various types of tests. For me, I didn't mind it, because I have bad eyes and I want to make sure they are in good health. I usually opt-in for these additional services anyways (like retina imaging, et..). If you don't want these services, you can decline. I understand why they do it. It's partly to be helpful, but also, as a small practice, they are unable to process as many patients as large chains and are not able to spread their costs across a wider variety of locations and options. Therefore, they try to maximize revenue per patient to keep their practice running. Personally, I don't mind that and get it - and I like supporting small local businesses if I can. They are also not forceful or abrasive about it, which I appreciate. That would have been a turnoff for sure, but they are very nice about it. Finally, if you get your frames and lenses from here, they are under a 1 year warranty that's included in the price. So you can use your glasses worry free. For me, because glasses are so important in my daily life, I'm always worried about messing up new glasses so this helps a lot in giving me peace of mind to just use them! I went in after a few years of not getting my eyes checked (I just forgot, honestly!!!) and luckily Aloha is near me and is covered by my insurance. Everyone at the front desk was super kind and Dr. Randy Chun was informative, kind, and very efficient. I had such a good experience that I even had my mother go to them and she said it was one of the most thorough exams she's ever gotten! Alyssa was also very patient and helpful while I looked at the various types of frames they had. I think that's the hardest part about going to the optometrist! I'm someone who's really big on first impressions, and when coming to Aloha Family Optometry I felt the BIGGEST aloha from everyone! I came across this location from through my insurance and did my research on Google. After reading about the team here at Aloha Family, I knew that this was the place for me. My exam was done by Dr. Randy. He is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I was also assisted by Alyssa while picking out my new frames. It's been a few years since my last eye exam and coming here has brought me right up to speed with my eye health! What sealed the deal for me was my interaction with Dr. Jennie. She welcomed me with a big aloha, complimented me on my choice in frames, and asked how I found their practice. After sharing my research, I was able to share with her that I'm also from the islands! She responded with much joy and it was then it felt like I was with my own Ohana! I can't wait to pick up my new glasses in a few weeks & continue my business with Aloha Family Optometry! read more

At first, I was really excited about this place. I saw great reviews, they took my insurance, and I thought they were friendly & professional. I left the office thinking I had a bleed in my left eye. Dr. Randy, during a basic eye exam, said he thought he spotted a bleed in my left eye and suggested I pay extra for them to do all these extra tests and dilations, etc. I was there for just replacement glasses and had already done extensive eye work at Kaiser for a neurological condition, so I had recently been dilated in both eyes only a month ago (plus had a follow-up appointment with my neuro-optomologist in only 2 weeks). I politely declined the extra add-ons and said I would follow-up with Kaiser since I was only using my vision insurance for frames. When I followed up with my neuro-optomologist, he immediately said, "This doctor said he saw signs of an impending BRVO? Without dialing you and letting you leave the office without signing anything?" This sounds like a scam office to me. When he checked my eyes, he did not find anything. My regular doctor warned me that offices like this like to nickel and dime people and refer them to specialists they know, pretending like they see something concerning, and then the specialist gets a cut and they make money off all the screenings and imaging. My red flags for these places were that they really know how to market. Everything is a theme, everything is a raffle, everything is a "leave us a review", we're celebrating an anniversary, "schedule your appointment for next year". These folks are genuinely nice because they are salespeople first. The reason they have great reviews is that they are good business, but that's it; they're good at making you feel connected to what they are selling. That does not mean they are optometrists who advocate for their patients. Red flag No. 2. With my insurance, I saw they had the exact frames I got from Costco last year for $79 WITH INSURANCE. At Costco, without insurance and with the bells and whistles, anti-glare, scratch resistance, etc. I got the same lenses at Costco for about $120 WITHOUT INSURANCE. This place is marking up products. I paid almost $79.00 with insurance and still have the base model that does not include anti-glare. All in all, I am not happy, I feel ripped off, and I have an inferior product. I feel like all I was sold was 30 minutes of being in a Hawaiian-themed office with some very friendly people, and that is it. So if you would like a Hawaiian experience where you pay for overpriced items and receive very friendly customer service, then this is your place. If you want the biggest bang for your buck, seriously, you're better off at Costco Optical. Watch out for your own signs and stick to your gut, but watch out for those upcharges. read more
