I would like to thank the two outstanding women at the front desk for helping me and my eyes out this afternoon. I use scleral lenses and lost my contact lens remover, and my optometrist's office happened to be closed today due to plumbing issues. In a panic, I located DeCarlo Optometry through Yelp. I explained my dire situation that I was in need of a contact lens remover (been wearing my lenses for 14+ hours at this point), and the woman at the front desk (I wish I got the name before I left), graciously provided me with a contact lens remover. I can't thank the staff enough at DeCarlo Optometry for their kindness and assistance, as I was deeply concerned that I wouldn't be able to remove my lenses. This tiny product is very difficult to find in stores, and after a long day of using the computer, I just wanted to remove my contact lenses. Thank you DeCarlo Optometry!! When I called to get information and to see if they could help me with my unique situation: I was transferred directly to the Dr. and he spent nearly 30 minutes - getting to know and understand my situation. This is response to the previous comment made on my original review. I am leaving this review for the correct doctor (Dr. DeCarlo). Also my name on Yelp is my nickname (pseudonym) so you are not going to find it in your system. I, like some other yelpers, use a pseudonym (my nickname) to protect my identity. I hope this clears up any confusion. Now onto my review originally posted in April 2021 **Original review** Overview: The receptionist at DeCarlo Optometry was very nice and helpful. The eye exam was subpar and there were aspects I felt uncomfortable with and uncomfortable doing. Overall I cannot recommend this place. Let's begin with booking the eye appointment. The receptionist that aided me was very kind and answered all of my questions. I thought, based on this interaction, that Dr. DeCarlo was going to become my new eye doctor. I was wrong. The eye exam felt very rushed. I've gone to a few optometrists in my life and I have never felt this rushed before. I addressed that I did have issues with floaters in my forms I filled out before the exam. I thought Dr. DeCarlo and I were going to to speak about my issue but we did not. Dr. DeCarlo only did a quick eye test to check my eye's prescription and then sent me on my way. This experience didn't feel like an exam to me because he only looked at one aspect of my eye, not the overall health of my eye. The entire interaction didn't feel friendly, it felt just like a business transaction. Which is fine, I understand we all have our days but I believe a huge part of customer service in medical fields are about building a relationship with your patients. Also, the chemical cleaning agent the doctor used to clean the equipment got in my eye and my eye was irritated for the rest of the day. That was disappointing that the equipment wasn't wiped properly before it was used on me. I was also very uncomfortable with the mask situation. He didn't wear a mask, which is fine, I don't really care about that but he asked me to remove mine for the exam. I have two elderly grandparents that I live with and I honor and respect their wishes by wearing a mask anytime I'm out in public or around others not living in the home. Dr. DeCarlo said the mask would mess up the machine. After the end of my quick exam I wanted to look at some glasses but I felt disheartened by the whole experience. The ladies from the front were doing their best to help me pick a pair of glasses and they were very friendly. My eye was still irritating me from the cleaning chemical and I was feeling very indecisive so I went home without a pair. I originally wanted to go back to find a pair of glasses however I decided after the whole experience I'll look for a different optometrist. I cannot recommend this place however I wanted to thank the front desk for their hospitality. This review is my authentic experience with Dr. DeCarlo at DeCarlo Optometry Placentia. I wish nothing but success for this business and don't let my negative experience deter you away from here. The staff of amazing. I had an eye infection and wasn't able to wear my contacts but didn't have any glasses to wear in the meantime. Instead of having me wait 5 days to go pick them up they had them done in less than 3 hours so that I wouldn't have to go to work wearing contacts and make my eye infection worse. I didn't even realize how poor my vision was until he popped new contacts in my eyes and I could see! Perfectly! Dr. DeCarlo replaced Merino. Their front staff is very friendly and helpful. The office has been remodeled and looks much more inviting. They have all the latest equipment. The machine that images the rear of your eye also does a 3D image. The glaucoma test is no longer the puff of air. I have dry eyes and blink a lot so tests were always tough and uncomfortable. Best place I've ever been to! I've been trying to get my eyes corrected for over 10 years with no success going to various different optometrist. A visit with Dr. DeCarlo and a few tests later and I'm all squared away. Also, his prices are GREAT!
