Horrible experience. 0/10 would not recommend. My review is solely for Dr. Lisa Matsui who showed unprofessional behavior during my daughter's eye test appointment. The office assistant escorted us to get the eye images and screening questions done. When asked about current medications, I replied that we only administer Advil or Motrin for fevers and pain, and she didn't ask any follow-up questions. Instead, she led us back to the exam room to wait for the doctor. As soon as we entered the room, my daughter dropped her belongings and dove into playing with her slime. The doctor walked in just as my daughter was reaching for tissues to wipe off excess hand sanitizer. The doctor's expression was puzzling - I couldn't tell if it was her natural demeanor or a look of distaste. "Oh, I heard your daughter is sick," she said, and I confirmed, "Yes, she was, last week". Given her medical expertise and credentials I expected more in-depth questioning. Instead, it seemed like she relied on assumptions rather than gathering thorough information about my daughter's medical history. It was surprising that she didn't take the opportunity to ask more questions and gather useful insights before or during our visit. She just looked at my daughter and told her "yeah, you look miserable" I was taken aback when the doctor said those exact words to my 12-year-old daughter. Her choice of words was not only unprofessional but also potentially damaging to a young and impressionable mind. It made me wonder how healthcare professionals in this office speak about patients when they're not within earshot. So I questioned her "what?? miserable? how can you tell her that. You have poor choice of words". And she said "well she doesn't look very well" and tried to rephrase it in other ways and started giving me the definition of miserable. I was appalled when the doctor offered to see my daughter another day. Why would I subject my child to a healthcare "professional" who lacks empathy and basic diagnostic skills? The doctor's failure to ask fundamental questions about allergies, medical history, and symptoms was staggering. Instead, she made assumptions based on a single observation - my daughter grabbing tissues. Her incompetence was alarming, and I wouldn't trust her to provide adequate care for my daughter or anyone in my family. Now I wonder, if other people knew, would they trust her to treat and diagnose their vision? Witnessing a healthcare professional in a white coat behave so unprofessionally was extremely upsetting. What's worse, instead of apologizing directly to my daughter for her hurtful comment, the doctor downplayed the situation by offering a casual invitation to return another time. Her lack of accountability and empathy was appalling, and ignoring my daughter's feelings only added to the harm. A simple acknowledgment and apology would have gone a long way in resolving the issue. Instead, her indifference compelled me to share our distressing experience, serving as a cautionary tale about the importance of empathy in healthcare. After declining her services, I walked out of the office. As I was walking to my car, I realized I needed to return for a doctor's note for my daughter's school. When I went back, it was clear that the doctor was gossiping with the front desk staff about our encounter. 5-7 people huddled in the front desk, like Jesus! you couldn't wait until I left the parking lot at least? The unprofessionalism was staggering - but not surprising; instead of reflecting on her behavior, she was sharing our personal business with others. So much for privacy rights. read more

Brea Optometry saved the day for me! I use daily contacts and typically I tossed that days pair way before bed and put on my next pair in the morning. I was visiting Brea from Los Angeles and before I went to sleep, just trusted myself to know that I had my next pair with me so per usually I tossed that pair away. But I woke up and realized I had no contacts or glasses. My eye sight is practically nonexistent without aid, so driving was out of the question. In my panic I called Brea Optometry and spoke to Cynthia Ortiz and explained my dilemma and asked if they could help me out in anyway. I had my current prescription written out, which being such a high power I was worried no offices would have anything available. But Cynthia, who was determined to help me, worked her magic and found a pair that was almost my exact prescription! I later went to pick them up and everyone in the office was so kind. I put them on there in their office and they fit and worked perfectly and I was able to go along with my day, no harm, no foul! But the level of care and the way they made sure that I would be taken care of was so comforting during a very stressful moment! Amazing team overall!!! I highly recommend Brea Optometry!! read more

I have been with Brea Optometry since I lived in Fullerton in 2017. Even though I've moved to Orange, I still make the drive out to Brea because I love how they treat their patients! Yesterday I was stuck in traffic trying to make it in time before they closed. As I arrived it was after 5pm and the workers were leaving for the day. I asked if I could still drop off my broken glasses even though they were closing. Cynthia (who was leaving to celebrate her birthday) said of course, grabbed my broken glasses, and even remembered MY NAME! I was so appreciative of her level of customer service and felt extremely grateful that my long drive wasn't all in vain. One star is all I can give! I meant to post this review a year ago but life happens so here it is! My family went here because we have Medi-cal so our choices are limited not a problem but we had to shell out $250.00 each for 3 pairs of glasses so total was 750.00 and we are on Medi-cal too! Not happy! When we received our glasses mine were all smudged and grimy too! The lenses get dirty real quick and we always have to clean them I am not happy with the quality of them! read more

Its always a bit disappointing when your previous Doctor retires or moves out of the area, so my first visit to where my records were transferred created some hesitation with a bit of nervousness. Then add COVID restrictions and I almost didn't want to go. What a mistake that would have been. Upon entering, I was greeted by an extremely welcoming and cheerful young staff at the desk who not only had a sense of humor when I joked with them, but were also very professional. My wait to be called was almost immediate where Angie guided me to multiple rooms to do preliminary and routine eye exams which were more state of the art then some of the more archaic tests of my previous Doctor who retired. Again, Angie was very pleasantly relaxed and professional to be around. With less then a 5 minute wait, I was greeted by Dr. Diane Almanza, my now permanently new Optometrist, Dr. Almanza, who was quick, though, and very pleasant and professional. Once my exam was over, Cynthia took over with helping me select some new frames for my new prescription. While trying on various frames, it was refreshing that COVID did not appear to affect my ability to try on for sizing and look as many frames as I wanted. After I was done, reflecting back, it was one of the most pleasant office visits I have had since this COVID craziness. At no time did anyone act in fear I was near them or touching something. Though I am sure they cleaned everything after I left, they weren't following me around with a spray bottle of disinfectant and a rag. This business was suggested by my former optometrist who had retired. I had a good exam and the staff was very helpful. I am very picky about my glass frames, as I wear them every waking minute of my life. Aly helped me pick out some frames. I found a pair I liked, but I wanted them in another color. I did not want to commit too purchasing the frames until I tried that color on. She told me no problem, would order the color I wanted, and they would be in the office in a couple days. Well, that has been over a month now. I called the office a few weeks ago to follow up, and no one returned my call. I stopped in to their office today to follow up. I was asked take a seat while they found my file. After quite a few minutes, I was told that Aly would speak with me after her customer. I asked to have her call me back, as it seemed like her customer would be with her a while longer. Still no return call. I was initially very happy with the new business, but their lack of follow up has left a very bad image. At this point, I would prefer to get my prescription and go to another business that has better customer service. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Almanza for about 8 years. I've never been disappointed with the service I have experienced during mine and my family's yearly exams. She and her staff are extremely professional and friendly. Dr. Almanza cares about her patients. She recommended Lasik to me because my eyesight was so horrible. She helped to make the process a good one and was there every step of the way. At the end of January, I was out of the state and something got caught under my eyelid which was causing a great amount of discomfort. I texted her Saturday evening and she replied letting me know she would meet me at the office no matter what time it was when we got back into town for an exam to find out what the problem was. We drove all night just to get back to Brea. She was waiting at the office at 4:00 am. What other Dr. do you know who would do that for their patients. She went over and beyond! I used to get soft contacts, hybrids, and hard contacts here without any issues. They referred me to a great ophthalmologist for lasik and I continue to get my yearly exams here. DR. LISA MATSUI is my personal favorite! She's kind and honest. She made me feel very comfortable and was very knowledgeable. The office space was clean, and the staff was friendly. After going to Dr. Matsui myself, I then brought the rest of my family. I was so impressed with her patience and kindness towards my 3 kids. 2 of my kids have glasses - for near sightedness and/astigmatism. I appreciated the time she spent with each of us. So glad I found this little gem!! The inside is super clean and organized but best part is the service here. The girls at the front desk and Dr Matsui are super friendly and nice. Brought my kiddies and myself for an exam and their professionalism is outstanding. Dr Matsui explains what the procedure is and explains to the kids where they understand and even takes the time to ask of their opinion on what they thought about the photo of their eye. I went here last month because it was close to my work. Now I'll go here regardless - they're great! Everyone was professional and super nice. I actually feel like I got an eye exam and good advice. Best yet, it was quick and efficient but I still got a really good exam and a lot of time to talk to the doc. Dr. Almanza is awesome and knew what my problems were before the exam! I ended up getting a lower prescription in one eye and a higher one in the other (yeah, I have funky eyeballs) but it worked perfectly. My last eye exam at LB Costco apparently gave me the wrong prescription strength. The recommendation to get polarized and anti glare was spot on and I highly recommend not skimping on those features. My glasses are clearer and I don't have streaking from lights. Also, the optometrists helped adjust my glasses perfectly the first time (and thats a feat because I have funky ears too, but I swear I'm not an ogre!). read more
