I found a eye dr that resides in my home community. I'm very pleased with the service I received from Lisa Shimada and her husband. Her office is very mindful in regards to our current covid 19 status. Office and equipment is clean and organized. My husband and I where the only patience scheduled for that morning and we had no wait time. Both Lisa and her husband where friendly and professional. They both explained, in detail, our specific personalized vision issues and our options. Ordering glasses was a simple and painless process also. Been coming here since I was in the fourth grade (college graduate now). Love the doctor, she's amazing. Staff are okay! Phone is nearly never picked up or I just call at the worst times. I have had more unanswered calls than answered. Unfortunately missed my yearly eye exam this past March bc of COVID and now they said to call back at the end of July because they aren't "fully opened." Unfortunate. Not to mention last years eye check up the doctor didn't want to give me MY pupillary distance. The staff had to ask her if they could provide that for me which shouldn't be a question as that is an IMPORTANT part of my eye prescription. read more

We've been coming to Dr. Shimada for a few years and she's earned our family's business by going the extra mile. It's really easy to schedule an appointment and her prices are affordable. She even has Saturday appointments once a month. She's been able to work magic with our insurance coverage to maximize our benefits. By really understanding our needs and our benefits she was able to get my wife a year's supply of contacts and a pair of prescription sunglasses for myself for a fraction of what we used to pay elsewhere. She took the time to explain our benefits to us so that we were set up to take advantage of them in the future. You definitely don't get that level of service at Costco! As a parent of young kids, it can be really stressful having to go to a doctor's appointment with a toddler in tow. She and her staff has always been super patient and gracious when we've had to bring our boys (age 18 mos and 3) to an appointment. I was looking for a new optometrist and discovered Dr. Lisa Shimada, OD. She is very accommodating to complicated schedules. Leveraging her experience as a parent, she was cognizant of school schedule for my little one and even recommended a better time to meet. It was that kind of empathetic service and thinking that helped me know I made the right choice in this optometrist. Also, she's very responsive by phone, email, and text, for which I prefer the last two and appreciate that I don't have to call for everything and can communicate electronically. As a sign of the current times, I felt the COVID-19 protocols the office had in place, and were posted for all to see, were effective and clear, making for a safe visit. Dr. Shimada had been our family's optometrist when we lived in La Habra for 15 years. She is the combination of both excellence and personal care. There's always a conversation going with Lisa as you get the feeling that she cares not only about your eyes but about your life (without the appointment going on and on). I have to say I was disappointed with my first and probably last visit. My husband and I took our 4 year old son and 3 year old daughter to the appointment to have my sons eyes examined. I arrived on time for my appointment and had to wait an hour before seeing Dr Shimada. They mentioned at the desk that they double booked the appointment. I was a little annoyed especially since my kids were getting tired of waiting as well and the last thing I wanted to do was spend my Saturday morning waiting at the doctors office. Dr Shimada was friendly and did explain some of the processes of examining eyes, however I wasn't really impressed with her casual appearance and hygiene. She kinda just walked in and sat at her computer and started talking without formally introducing herself. At first I wasn't sure who she was. Towards the end of the appointment she kinda felt like a salesman, which I understand it's her business, but I didn't like the questions she was asking and her recommendations were a little too much. She also did not appear organized and kept pushing for me to purchase sunglasses for my son that she finally found in a box full of old stuff. The icing on the cake was there was a bucket of lollipops she was selling to raise donations. My kids kept asking for lollipops since they were right there on the counter - I donated a couple dollars and Dr Shimada kindly reminded me to put money for the lollipops. You would think as a first time visitor having to wait ah hour on a Saturday she would have given me the lollipops for free. Good customer service will bring back customers and even more referrals and business, I guess that's why she has to be more like a salesman - her customer service and professionalism is not impressive. One more thing to note - her office is somewhat of a walking hazard and it definitely needs some maintenance work. She also mentioned I didn't have a copay since I had PPO but then I ended up paying $35 at the end of the appt. I honestly just wanted to get out of there, I didn't even think to ask what it was for. To end on a positive note - I did appreciate that her receptionist tried to entertain my kids with putting on a movie and making small talk. Overall I am giving 2 stars. read more

After going to her office a few days ago, she made special arrangements on a Saturday to adjust the prescription of my new contacts. Many offices would make you wait several days for that to happen. I went to Dr Shimada's office for my annual eye exam and needed needed new glasses. The staff was pleasant and knowledgeable the first visit and I awaited my glasses to be in. Received call and text message to come pick them up and the office was closed during regular posted hours not once but TWICE. Irritated but finally picked up my glasses. Within weeks my frames were falling off of my face and I noticed small bracket things had come off of them. Went back in and was told the frames were no longer available and that I would have to pay $50 for replacement. Picked out new frames and talked to doctor about the fee but she wouldn't budge on it--she accused Me of leaving them out in the sun, which I hadn't. If they handled the situation differently or at least split the cost with me I may have been a return customer but there was absolutely no focus on customer service or concern about customer satisfaction to ensure my family's continued business. The staff there apologized to me when the doctor left the room. There's a lot of other providers out there who offer much better service--don't waste your time here. Update : as I explained when I brought the frames in I used the glasses a few times and put them in their case. When I opened the case I noticed a clip/piece laying loose which could have been the reason for the frames no longer fitting. But no one would engage in that discussion. I paid the $50. I did this reluctantly because it had only been a few months -- that shouldn't of happened. I'm wasn't trying to bilk anyone out of anything--I just need to be able to read. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect frames to fit -- and I would've thought the manufacturers warrant them for a period of time. Regardless, I would have appreciated a real discussion about this, not made to feel like I had done something to the frames. Instead felt like I was brushed off. read more
