I been visiting two years. I really enjoy all the people who work here. I attended my son's appt today and the doctor was very attentive and engaging with my son. He was very thorough with his explanation regarding the results. Erika the other co worker was such a great help assisting us with choosing eyewear and getting the perfect fit in my son. I appreciated her taking my her time with works better. Please go through with the worker about what charges you are paying for your glasses. Their standard is still adding some extra enhancement of a normal glasses which will cost extra. Erika was happy to explain each charge. I did tell her I did not want some enhancement, which she happily oblige. I would recommend. read more

No they made up excuses why they wouldn't refund my 345.00 $that was put on my card without my consent week after . Their was an extremely horrible death that occurred at the time.First I was told credit was available. Now since this death has broken me to where I don't leave my home. People deal with unexpected death all the time.But it effects People differently. I was told since it's been 3 yrs nothing can be done. I'm so disappointed with the office in Fullerton and orange. I was recommended to Focal Point from a family member. I selected Dr. Phan because she looked like a very nice person. She lived up to my expectations very thorough and funny. She was lovely and easy to talk to. Ric was great he was a clairvoyant of glasses knowing exactly what I wanted. He made the selection process so easy I would do it again. Compared to other optometrists Focal Point is state of the art with a vast selection to choose from for anyone with a larger head frame to the smallest. I love this office! I have seen all the optometrists here over the past 9 years as a patient, and they are all wonderful. It's very clean and their equipment is top notch. The opticians are absolutely amazing. You can tell that Ric has a passion for what he does. He can look at you and tell you exactly what frames will flatter your face. I was shopping for my kids during my latest visit, and he was very patient and thorough in explaining all the different options and add-ons for the lenses. Stefany worked with my daughter on putting in her first contact lenses. She was very patient and did not rush her at all. I will never again be coming back here... I have been a patient for at least 8 years and have never had any issue before, in fact they were always so so helpful previously. I bought a pair of glasses in Sept 2020 and did not get them until late October. No more than 6 months after getting them I noticed discoloration around the ear portion of the arms. Although i think it is ugly, I left it alone because that is hidden Over the last 3 months I have noticed a significant discoloration in multiple locations on my frames. I called last week and asked about it and was told there is nothing they can do as my insurance's warranty is over. I was told to I could come in for a consult and they would see what might the cause of it. I went in on Saturday and during my consult the woman said the damage is from the sun and that I could order new frames. My boyfriend proceeded to asked how much it would cost to order new frames. She looked them up and realized, these are originally sunglasses. Her tone slightly changed, but her explain did not, it would cost $240 plus taxes to order new frames. I am upset because after my insurance I paid roughly $400 for my glasses (yes I know part of that is also for my lenses). but they are unwilling to do anything to help me. What happened to backing the product you're selling ?? These frames are Kate Spade. A "high quality brand" and yet these are the worst frames I have ever had. But because the 1 year warranty is done and my insurance doesn't kick in again until September, there's nothing they can do. I am very disappointed with this interaction. read more

I don't tend to write reviews but came here feeling the need for some glasses and repeatedly felt misinformed rather than cared for. I've never had glasses so unfortunately did not know what was normal. Throughout the whole process there was unfortunately no explanations or education in what I was being charged for (which to find out later from others, were unnecessary up charges) or what was all included (was sent home with a fabric sleeve for my glasses instead of the brand hard case). As a medical office, their team should be proactive about educating and informing what is happening and why. If you choose to come, be ready to advocate for yourself, ask questions regarding charges and pricing, and go back to hold them to task if you don't realize it in the moment. read more

Went for my annual exam, ordered two pair of eyeglasses. It's been 5 weeks since I ordered by glasses and I have called 3 times for updates and was informed the lab did not pass inspection on my lenses twice. I ordered two pair, sunglasses and regular. Sunglasses arrived in two weeks, other pair I am still waiting. Offered me free lenses aside from the money I already paid and do not need a 3rd pair. I do not recommend this place and will go elsewhere moving forward. read more

I have been going here for a many years now. I had my usual appointment at the end of last year and walked away happy, until 4 days later. I woke up with my upper eye lid itching and before I knew it, I had a huge, puffy stye. I have never in 45 years had issues with styes or ever had one? I Googled how styes come about and it's from bacteria. I recalled my eye appointment and noticed that I spent 20 plus minutes trying on glasses. Who knows how I got it (from the dirty sample glasses? From the machines?) but I called and told them. Of course they blamed it on me and said that it was me with dirty hands that caused it. I told them I work with troubled youths and I have never had a stye! They called me in and sure enough the Dr blame me and not the greasy sample glasses. I wasn't given eye drops but told to put a warm compress on my eyes. Seriously? I was given a bill for the Dr visit. I could have done that at home for free. I will not be returning here! read more

-I was looking to get contacts and a pair of new glasses. I looked around Yelp or the best shops to visit and this one stand out. I made an appointment online and received a prompt response with the date I wanted. Their location is located inside a huge shopping center which can be a good thing and a bad thing. There are a lot of restaurants that surround the store. I had my appointment at 10am and the parking lot near was already full so we had to parked in one of the back lots. No big deal. -Upon check-in I was given an iPad to register. Once I was done, I got called in to do a few test. The girl that took care of me seemed like she didn't want to be there. She was not very likable, but she was nice and explained all the procedures she was doing. -Once she was done I saw an intern optometrist. I forgot his name but he was great. He was patient and listened very well to my concerns. After, I was seen by the doctor. She was great as well and very friendly. I ended up trying some contacts because I wanted to have options during the weekends when I'm not working at the office. -The intern went through my contacts training and again he was great. After I also bought a pair of new eye glasses. The girl that helped me was awesome. She showed me different styles and helped me pick exactly what I was looking for. -My glasses were ready within one week which is not too bad. Also I went back after a week to check for contact fit and I was seen by their intern. Again super nice and listened to my concerns carefully. What was nice was that I was greeted by Dr. Arellano and came in to say hi. -I will definitely be back again next year for my check-up. Their store is pretty nice, they do have the latest equipment to check your eyes, so no more dilating your eyes with eye drops and they had a lot of options for eye wear. From the moment I walked in I was not only greeted by a wonderful selection of frames, but also by the amazingly friendly staff. I can't remember ever feeling more welcome at an Optometrist.........ever. Dr. Arellano was also amazing. He was not only VERY personable but equally knowledgeable as well. It also helps that the front desk and opticians are friendly and knowledgable. Recently picked out a great new pair of Tom Fords and they recommended Eyezen lenses, I am now more stylish and don't experience as much fatigue at the end of the day! This place used to be pretty good. That was about 2 years ago. Now I come in with my family, and I hear the people behind the desk talking shit about customers. No filter whatsoever! They don't care if anyone hears what they are saying. Right now I'm in the waiting area, because my mom had an appointment this morning. She received her glasses last week and they seem to be the wrong prescription. Prior to this appointment she had called explaining how her new glasses were very blurry and she couldn't adjust to them, yet her old glasses worked, and she bought those from target! So, it's the day of the appointment and before we even walk through the door she bangs her head hard on the security gate that employees had not put all the way up when opening the store. Mind you, this was very loud, yet no one turned around to see if she was alright. We decided to sit down realizing no one was going to acknowledge what had happened. After we had taken our seats a woman came saying, "Sorry, we just opened". Hmmm maybe make sure you don't leave security gates half way down knowing you'll have appointments walking in. Everyone here is extremely unprofessional, very rude, and shouldn't be working here. At this moment, a man is questioning whether my mom is looking out of her glasses the right way. I went to this optometrist a few weeks ago for a checkup and an updated prescription for contact lenses. The office is clean and had many times available for an appointment. The appointment took about an hour. They gave me my prescription on the same day as my appointment. I went to Costco to get new contact lenses, but my prescription was INCOMPLETE. Focal Point left out the base curve on my prescription for the lenses. I was really annoyed because now I have to make a second trip to Costco due to the incomplete prescription. read more

**BEWARE - SCAM** Unfortunately I had a very bad experience recently here. This was my 2nd year of my family going for our annual eye exams. Last year was great. Not this time. Unknowingly they charged my insurance and myself combined over $500 (my part was over $190) for single vision lens to be put in my existing basic pair of frames. After I had left I had visited a couple of other eyeglass businesses and the average costs of the same lenses are $60 TOTAL. When I called the next business day to cancel my order they said they could not do that since they already put the order in. Come to find out they put a bunch of enhancements on the lenses I did not ask for. I specifically stated I just wanted basic lenses. Rick the office manager was very unprofessional and rude when I confronted him with them up selling me on enhancements I never asked for. I told them repeatedly I just wanted the basic lenses. Still considering on filing a Better Business Bureau complaint. Feel completely scammed, bait and switch. read more

So my husband and I turned the house upside down and could not find our son's glasses. Apparently they have been missing for over a day. My son cannot see without them and really needs them by tomorrow morning (for a very good reason that would behoove us to act urgently). Dr. Arellano called me directly on his personal cell to let me know how empathetic he was to our problem and proceeded to personally coordinate a same day exam and pick up for eyeglasses. He asked me to hold on to his personal cell just in case We had an appointment with the kind Dr. Hsieh about an hour later and Favi, one of the techs was on a mission to ensure we could someone find frames we liked and could fit my little peanut's oddly shaped head. =) We ended up thinking outside the box and Favi worked up the order. Also want to add that my son is incredibly squirmy and he can't help it and has difficulty controlling his body. Not once did Dr. Hsieh or Favi make my son feel ashamed. He was treated with compassion and respect. You see, it takes a small army to ensure all this takes place. The glasses were sent to a lab to ensure proper cutting of lenses. Favi informed me that the frames were going to be hand delivered to the lab at another location and then Dr. Arellano would be picking them up later in thr afternoon and meeting me and my son at another sister office location 20 mins away but closer to my home to ensure proper fit and delivery. I was shocked and overwhelmed. I hope in retrospect I properly expressed my gratitude. My son was oblivious because he was busy watching Jungle Book on the TV in the waiting room. I noticed that the front desk changed the movie from Dr. Strange to something animated my son would enjoy. It's the little things which transform a potentially cold medical office to a place of warmth. I have to say that I have no preexisting relationship with Focal Point Optometry. They had no obligation to help me and I did not appreciate until much later the extent they were stretching themselves to help me. These were clear acts of kindness and going above and beyond for a patient and a little boy in a tight spot who really needed to see. We will be back for a myopia consult next month with Dr. Arellano who has expertise to help my son who loves to read at the expense of his eyes. Long overdue review! I came here for my eye exam two years ago simply because they are located near my house and I was able to walk in before eating at the Souplantation next door and make an appointment. The eye doctor herself is a lovely woman - professional, knowledgeable, and kind. She is what bumped this rating from one star to two stars. I have been wearing glasses since I was in first grade so I am familiar with eyeglasses. Why not try contacts you wonder? I just can't poke my eyeballs! Anyways, in all my years of being four-eyes, never have I had such a terrible experience with a pair of glasses. They say you get what you pay for. Well, for what I paid for my glasses I should have gotten better. One day I had noticed spots on the lenses that would not come off with simply wiping or washing them. When I called the office about it, I was informed that there was nothing they could do. The anti-glare coating started peeling off right after the warranty on them ended. It continued to worsen for months and I literally had spots which made it difficult to focus, read, drive, etc. Consider going elsewhere if you want quality lenses that will last two years and aren't overpriced. Tip: Always ask about proper technique to clean your glasses. If you do decide to invest on coating like anti-glare or anti-scratch, ask about their process and warranty/guarantee. read more

I have been going here for years. But not sure what happened recently. Even though I could get contacts cheaper online and they have a limited selection of glasses/sunglasses. In the middle of my vision insurance transitioning to VSP, I ran out of contacts. Therefore asked them for a pair of trials to hold me over. Instead of just handing them over to me, trusting I would order through them once the insurance cleared. Rather I was met with the 3rd degree and suspicion. What do they think I'm doing? Modern equipment, great looking office, friendly staff, and awesome doctor. I switched over to this doctor since my last optometrist went out of business (how does that happen?). Well anyways, it turns out it was for the best since I had such an awesome experience here! Dr. Arellano was really informative and told me exactly what I was being shown on his screen. As I said, the equipment is very modern and nothing I had ever seen before. The office lobby is great and welcoming. They even had a little coffee machine there for patients. Dr. Arellano is very thorough and explained everything to me. I learned things about myself no other optometrist ever told me! Plus, he's got an awesome sense of humor. Also, the staff is very helpful in terms of insurance benefits and costs. I got an eye exam and contacts for this visit. Amazing! I'm always studying at the Starbucks across from them, just the other week the screw came off that held my left lens together. My original Optometry was in Whittier but I didn't feel like waiting until Friday when I was in town. So i decided to come in and see what they can do. He even found a way for me to get my contacts completely free! Excellent service ! I ordered contact lenses over the phone letting them know that I need it ASAP. But my eye prescription is somehow unusual and my order could take couple of days to be available. I don't need to highlight the urgency of my request, immediately they offered an interim solution to help me with my eyes situation. This review is for the front desk staff ONLY. I walked in and it was pretty full, so understandably I made an appointment for later that week. They can't figure out if they accept my insurance, so they say they will take a look within the next few days and give me a call before my early morning appointment to let me know what they find out. No call, so I'm assuming there are no issues. The lady at the front tells me the other girl did not call my insurance company and ask me if I can CALL MY OWN INSURANCE COMPANY to figure out if they will cover it. SHE DID NOT WANT TO CALL FOR ME either. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO THE INSURANCE? "Do you allow me to go to Focal Point Optometry off Malvern?" Honestly I felt it was so unprofessional when that's their job. I tried to walk out, but finally she draws me back in by saying " I know we do accept it " We figured it out in the end that my insurance was fine there. I have been going to Focal Point & Dr. Alvin for about 7+ years. I used to live in Fullerton so it was the perfect location. Let me tell you, it is the most thorough and AMAZING eye exam you'll ever get! I have always loved the attention from the front office staff and Dr. Arellano. Did I mention the prices are great? I have a horrible astigmatism and not only has he found the perfect lenses I don't ever have to try new lenses. Let me also say I have tried twice to go to two different eye doctors closer to me. I moved to Costa Mesa so Fullerton was a bit of a drive. Both doctors were HORRIBLE in comparison!!! This review is overdue, but since I'm due for my annual check I thought I could help others with my review. Again, my visits were about a year ago. Prior to that visit, I haven't been checked for maybe 2 years. I knew my vision got worse, but when the younger looking doctor told me that my prescription went up from -2.5 to -6.0 I could hardly believe. She gave me a trial pair to see how I would feel for a week. I came back for another check, this time with dr Alvin. After doing some testing, he concluded that I was at -3.5. This was more believable, also because I've been wearing lenses for a year and they fit great and I see great. Also, each time I went there, the front desk girls could never explain to me what my co-pay was and why my insurance covered this and not that. I had one girl tell me one thing over the phone and then another giving me dirty looks in person by supposedly "doing me a favor" by charging me what another girl said. I was so confused and frustrated that I didn't want to order lenses from them, but rather get it online. I liked dr Alvin, but I'm not going back there. I get to do this once a year and don't want to have unpleasant experience. read more

Ambience is lovely and inviting. I'm not a regular customer of eye places but I'm pretty sure the equipment here is state-of-the-art. Frames selection is good. People are super nice and great with kids. It may sound like a super suck-up, but I've been here 3 times already a I've got nothing negative to report minus the turnaround for my glasses. I went here for my annual eye exam. I am a new customer and the staff was very welcoming. Dr. Landas explained my retina photograph by keeping it light, and making it easy to understand (no eye doctor lingo). She answered all of my questions and saw me in a timely manner. When my exam was complete, I went to the reception area and was asked if I wanted to look at frames. My current prescription was pretty much the same as last time, so I decided to not get any glasses. I informed the staff that I would not be getting frames and they were not pushy at all. Most of the eye doctor's offices that I have been to try to get me to buy new frames. I was surprised and appreciated that I was pressured to buy frames.
