I went to Uni last week on a Monday evening for dinner. It's located behind some apartments on Ave. K in the heart of Downtown Plano. Free parking is available in the apartment parking garage. Also, you can enter through the back of the building closest to the garage. First impression: cute, intimate restaurant with soft and relaxing music and eclectic decor. There is a sushi chef visible to almost everyone making sushi and you can sit at the sushi bar and eat as well. There is also a tv on low volume that you can watch, it makes the place a little more casual, but not in a bad way. The menu is relatively short and simple. My friend and I ordered edamame as an appetizer and two rolls to share-- Snow Mountain Roll and Special Dragon Roll (deep fried). We both really liked the Dragon roll, but the Snow Mountain Roll was a little too fishy tasting. Will probably not get that one again. My friend also ordered tea (they only had green tea) which came in a little cute teapot. However, the tea bag seemed to have lost all its flavoring because she said it tasted like she was just drinking hot water. Service was pretty good though-waiter and busboy were nice and packed up our food to go. Overall, I would give this place 4/5 stars and will visit again if I am looking for a sushi place in that area. I know I have had better sushi before so that's the primary reason for one star off. For the Dallas area, this sushi place is probably 3.5 stars. I thought the Nigiri was better than Edohana Sushi. It didn't have that previously frozen texture. Most of the sashimi and nigiri in Texas, is difficult for me to eat, because even the slightest bit of fishiness turns me off, but Uni Sushi was pretty decent. The fish didn't seem as fresh as Little Katana though. We had the sushi omakase and it was pretty good and had no problem finishing it. For the amount of food, we though $20 was a fair price. We also ordered the shrimp shumai and the kalbi appetizer. Both were pretty standard, but nothing spectacular and a little pricey $10 appetizers. The restaurant has a date night sort of ambiance. The service here by our waiter was pretty good as well. He was pretty friendly. Uni Sushi isn't comparable to sushi in California, but I think it's better quality than most places in Texas for the price point. Certainly, worth a try! read more

This small sushi spot is in an apartment building in downtown East Plano. Small means only 7 tables. Hubby and I were immediately assaulted by a family with young screaming kids on a Friday night. Props to the staff who moved us to the back of the hallway when that table became available... which leads me to a PSA tip... please be mindful that the quite atmosphere is not conducive to small misbehaving children. The service is S-L-O-W. We could not figure out why the service is slow until we moved to the table in front of the back door. The traffic for to-go orders from the apartment complex would rival any wing spot during football. Was the restaurant fulfilling the to-go orders first? Don't know, but our dinner lasted almost 2 hours and we only ordered two appetizers and two rolls. Many other reviews mentioned free edamame or miso, but we did not experience it. Most of the time we sat at the empty table, so something to snack on while we wait would have been appreciated. The food is Americanized sushi. Both the Tuna Tower and sushi roll were covered with way too much sauce. The rolls are huge and the rice ratio is not sushi balanced. The taste was ok, and would have been better if it was not over-sauced. I can see the convenience for those living around the East Plano apartments, but there are so many good sushi places in Plano for us. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more

I figure it's time for an update. How can they consistently be this good. Week in - week out - my wife go here and always get amazing service and amazing food. Our current order is edamame, two sunomono salads, a chirashi-don, and a chef's special cucumber roll w/ fish (it's not on the menu but it's fantastic). We get an extra plate and I share some of the sashimi and rice from my Chirashi and my wife gives me one or two pieces of the roll. Ends up being a full meal that's very filling and delicious and healthy. Tips if you try ordering what we order : Save your sunomono bowl and put the shredded radish and shrimp and crab to keep that flavor profile going. Delicious. Don't use anything on the super white or the yellow tail. At least try each piece once without any soy sauce or wasabi (horseradish). This is a nice place to have dinner. Calming music and no bright lights make this a good escape from a busy day. The sushi is fresh, flavorful and delicious. We tried several rolls and splurged on a salmon tower. The tower had lots of salmon, avocado and yummy sauces. Spicy tuna rolls are our favorite and they did not disappoint. We had both a deep fried tempura version and a cold. Fried changes the entire taste but is also quite delicious. The staff is friendly. We look forward to another visit. read more

I understand why Uni Sushi has such high ratings! This place is simply amazing. We arrived around 8:30 and did not have trouble with parking. It was slightly hard to see where Uni is in the evening. We were immediately greeted and seated. The ambiance was nice and romantic with light dims, black fabrics covers on the tables, and nice elegant seats. We ordered salmon sashimi (wanted toro but they didn't have any available), California, Phoenix, and Alaska rolls - all delicious. They were all essentially variations of the California roll. We tried the dumpling soup today and it was more than expected, 3 large size dumplings in miso soup with plenty of broth and tofu, it was delicious! Finally, but most importantly, the service was amazing, I love that they bring your rolls out when they are ready rather than waiting for everything to be ready and bringing it out at once, this way I know I'm getting my food when it's freshly made. A little place tucked in right beside Brix bar and grill in the downtown Plano area. There is some street parking available, but there is also a free parking garage available if you turn in at the little entrance right beside Brix. I ordered to go on a Saturday night around 8:40 pm. Ready in about 20 minutes. Prices are about what you'd expect for sushi. We ordered Tuna ahi tower, Kay's roll, and Philadelphia roll. Quality wise, tastes pretty good. You do get a pretty big portion, and I got quite a bit of fish on my Kay's roll. Presentation was beautiful. I would recommend this place above others in the area. I met up with a friend for a quick bite before heading to Houston. I was pretty impressed by how nice and clean this place was. It seemed like a family owned business. I was however disappointed that they didn't serve alcohol (would have definitely made for a more pleasant experience and yes, I love alcohol). Our first order was the yellow tail (hamachi) sashimi. I prefer sushi over sashimi but this was so so good. Our order was out in less than 5 minutes which was pretty impressive. We then ordered the J.C roll. It was amazing!!!! It seemed like a lot of seafood and different flavors but it all came together pretty nicely. Their tempura rolls are huge and by this time we were both stuffed but decided to try more things on the menu. We then ordered eel roll and the California roll. Everything tasted so good and by this time we were stuffed and arguing who was going to finish up the food. Lol. And did I say it was super affordable? I was pretty surprised at the prices of the sushi. Overall I was very impressed by this and the service was very good. Our waiter checked up on us frequently and ensured everything was going okay. Oh sushi burrito we finally meet. Uni Sushi is a winner. My favorite sushi restaurants in the Plano area used to be Densetsu, and now Shiawase, and no other sushi restaurant had captured my heart...until now. This place really is a contender. The atmosphere is so on point. It's suitable for a casual catchup lunch with a girlfriend or even a romantic dinner date with your bae. The setting is intimate: Tables for four are in the front, and lounge chairs for two near the back. It's not that big, so if you don't want to wait go on a weekday for lunch! Also, I just loved the music playlist!! They played romantic instrumentals like la vie en rose and other romantic songs..yes I like romantic things. Service was wonderful. Now for the food: Giant Burrito Roll. Yes PLEASE. And no this is not a Chipotle burrito but it's just as addicting. A giant sushi roll filled with avocado, tuna, salmon, and crab meat served with eel sauce and spicy mayo for your dipping pleasure. All for $12.59!! This is actually a lower price than a sushi burrito at Densetsu and Shiawase, too. Serving portion is a wee smaller (I could eat it all in one sitting) than at Densetsu/Shiawase BUT the ratio of fish to rice is better at Uni Sushi IMO. And for those who are wondering if you can eat that soybean paper...I'm thinking no LOL. (Someone tell me if I'm wrong, hate to waste food.) What a great addition to downtown Plano! The chef pulled out all the stops giving us complimentary edamame and seared albacore tuna nigiri. The lunch specials are a bargain and really fancy for the price! There are a variety of sushi and Korean food options but we came for sushi. We had the shrimp tempura and spicy salmon roll and it came with miso soup and choice of seaweed salad or house. Everything was prepared beautifully. I'm usually afraid to try cooked food at a sushi place or vice versa but this place impressed me so much, I'm confident the Korean dishes will be great as well. Uni pays close attention to presentation, flavor, and the service was also top notch- refilling tea and water right on time, every time, although it wasn't busy. So small that we had to sit at the sushi bar instead of a table because all the tables were occupied. Wasn't a fan of that at all. Service was okay, food was just okay as well. Pretty decent sushi restaurant. It's in downtown Plano so you have to park in the garage behind the restaurant (luckily, it's free). The tables in the back have large, comfy chairs. Started off with the red cannon roll and enjoyed it a lot - the salmon wrapped around each roll was pretty good quality and tasted great. Just the right amount of sauces, too. Tuna hand roll was pretty standard. I got the udon noodles for my entree and it was quite a large bowl. I didn't enjoy the broth of the udon too much - it was slightly too sweet for me so the Inari in the udon was also very sweet. My friend got the Una Ju but he said the sushi rice wasn't great quality. Otherwise the eel that came with the Una Ju was pretty standard. Ended the meal with a complimentary red bean mochi which was tasty! Service was pretty slow too. I think they only had 2 guys tending to the entire restaurant. read more

So i only came here to try their giant sushi burrito! I had heard of a sushiritto from a friend and I yelped it and it had listed 2 locations. 1 being Uni Sushi. Walked into, small place, very fancy and comfy seats... Not the normal seats for restaurants. They were really nice, like a chair the king/queen on a chest set would sit in. Our server brought us water right away along with the menu. Our server was very nice. I ordered 1 giant sushi burrito and golden spicy tuna roll (light battered spicy tuna roll). The burrito was a very good size! It's cut in half with all the fish inside, wrap with soy paper I believe, and a white paper sheet. On the side was spicy mayo and eel sauce. Ok... This place is downright delicious! Me and my friend came here on Saturday around noon. Now, the word is still getting out about this place so it wasn't crazy packed. Give it time, it's worth it. Ok, ok... To the food: Green Tea = nice and tasty. Tuna Tower = omg! I am not over exaggerating when I say this is the best I have ever had. It's so subtle and savory that it leaves you wondering when you can get it again. Edamame = on the house, but seasoned to perfection. Not overly salted, but the perfect start to a lunch. Miso soup = on the house, the broth is light, tofu was small, missing some seaweed but, did not detract from the flavor. Cherry blossom roll = when people say that this does not need any soy sauce, they are not kidding. It's light and not overpowering at all. It's kind of tangy...but it was right up my alley. I forgot to see what was in it. Spicy Tuna hand roll = really good, I have never had a hand roll, it was interesting. The tuna was spicy in the right way.. It didn't burn your mouth but it did leave a nice aftertaste. The avocado, sprouts and cucumber slices that were in there definitely added to the flavor. Popcorn lobster roll = you know that sound homer makes when he sees a donut?? That's what you will do when you taste this roll. Hands down one of my favorite rolls ever. Green tea mochi, strawberry mochi and fried banana dessert = my friend loved it and I can't say much cause I'm not a fan of ice cream....but the strawberry mochi was actually not that bad. Service = only one server but, was so nice and offered us great choices. Chef = AMAZING! He was so kind and ensured our food was amazing. I don't write 5 reviews often (promise) so this was well deserved. Price wise we spent about 60 bucks lol but for us that's pretty good. They have budget rolls... I think the most I saw was 14 bucks for a roll...so that should give you a good options in terms of being on a budget. I will be making this my regular place from now on. read more

Four stars for the sushi alone. Not quite 4 stars for the soft shell crab and suhirito. I came here because of the sushirito. Ive always passed by this place when looking for parking in downtown Plano. I was pleasantly surprised to find they were the ones who made the sushirito. I arrived at 2pm on Saturday. No one except my friend and I in the restaurant. I started off with soft shell crab. The meat in it was wonderful. The breading was thick and crispy, but I couldnt help feeling it was a little too thick. Not that I was getting less meat because of it, but on a subconscious level, it bothered me. Also, the tempura batter was generic. There was no real flavor or pizaz to it. Then the sushirito arrives. I had lots of feeling coursing through me. Excitement was one of them. Disappointment in size was another. Curiosity over the paper they wrap around the whole thing. Once I started eating it, I realized that its really nothing thats magical. The idea sounds like heaven but execution is easier said than done. The paper wrapped around it was for reinforcement. Without it, the whole thing could collapse. Flavor-wise, it reminded me of a poke bowl but wrapped in rice. Personally, they could use some spices and spices to go in this thing. The sushiritos have a lot of potential, but are shorthanded without any additional spices or sauces. I still enjoyed it, but it certainly doesnt deserve the amount of hype it has received. The sushi blew me away. If I wasnt already getting full I would have ordered more. Their sushi is so fresh and full of flavor. I was appalled that my friend thought it was too "fishy". thats the whole point! And they do a great job! I didnt like that my three pieces of sushi took 15 minutes to construct, especially when no one else was around, but I forgive them . I promised several friends that I will be coming back here. I personally want to try more of their sushi and specialty roll options. I probably wont order another sushirito unless they make some dramatic changes in its ingredients. read more

Finally! A great sushi place in downtown Plano. The rolls and sashimi are incredibly fresh and tasty - especially the Cherry Blossom roll and the Crab Tower! The service was exceptional and the staff were friendly and hospitable. We brought our one-year-old daughter with us and the sushi chef made a special rice for her - which she loved.
