Order from the app, Tock. Usually have to order a day in advance for pick up. The first time I tried uncle Tetsu was in Toronto. At that time the line was ridiculously long. So glad I could order in advance for pick up. Ordered the strawberry for myself and an ube for a friend. They included a card with information on the different ways of eating it: warm, room temp, chilled or frozen. I personally prefer it chilled. At less than $12 a cake, it's a bargain. Great for a special occasion or any time! The burnt basque for some reason is usually sold out on the Tock app, but they do have some available on the spot without preordering. My memories of my first time try uncle tatsu was in LA. They had a stall near Ding Tai Fong, and Uncle tatsu was located just right across. i loved watching the way they stamp the logo on the cheese cake with such light hands. that machine looks heavy, but to see them stamp the logo on each cake everyday with such delicacy just amazes me. before uncle tatsu came to San Francisco, i use to bring 5-10 classic cakes back on the plane. But once i heard they were opening up one in San Francisco and just only 5 minutes away i was super excited. during covid the lines are still a bit long, but not as long as the ones in LA. The Burnt Basque cheesecake was"Burnt" when I opened the box. The top layer tasted bitter but inside was fine. I believe it's a fine cheesecake if it's not "Burnt" I'm pretty sure the staff who packed this cheesecake into the box noticed it. I ate it cold, I heard you can also warm it up and it tastes quite different. The price is pretty reasonable and we ordered ahead so there was no wait but apparently people wait for hours for this. There is another place that is famous for basque cheesecakes in oakland but the cake is much more expensive and sells out immediately so it's very hard to get your hands on one. I was so excited when an Uncle Tetsu opened up near me! I had only ever heard good things, so as soon as I was told we got one I knew I had to go! I went on a Saturday afternoon and waited maybe two minutes, so that's a bonus! There are a couple flavors but since I had never tried it I went with the original. (They have little dots on the ground that line you up against the wall instead of through the middle of the landing where the escalator goes down so make sure to follow those!
