They specialize of course in choux pastries, but they also make meringues and canelés which happen to be my favorite. This time I got two matcha canelés, two original and 4 choux: mango ginger (oh my god, what a wonderful pairing this is), pistachio, raspberry and lemon meringue. The choux is light and fluffy. Topped with crackling and beautifully decorated, these choux are filed to the top on the inside with delicious mouse/cream making the perfect bite. The canelés were also delicious. Caramelized (yet not burned) on the outside and fluffy and custardy in the inside. Highly recommend to anyone fan of good pastries. You can place your order online or pick up at their store front. Located along a busy stretch of Balboa Street between 38th and 39th Avenues in San Francisco's Outer Richmond neighborhood, this charming bakery has quickly become a local favorite. The success of Butter Love Bakeshop is thanks to the entrepreneurial vision of owner and baker Esa Yonn-Brown, supported by her husband Josh, her family, and a cherished pie dough recipe passed down from her mother. Every bite reflects that care, tradition, and love, hence their namesake, baked right in. I have now had the honor of patronizing Butter Love Bakeshop twice, as I first came here one year ago on a Saturday evening as I managed to find parking in this busy area of the city, walked by and saw they were open well past their traditional closing time of 4 p.m. I learned they were selling cookies from 5-9 p.m. on this weekend evening in a promotion that they call Nite Cookie of which on both Friday and Saturday evenings they sell a whole list of cookies that traditionally would not be found during their regular business hours. With Chocolate Chip, Cowboy, Pavlova and one special cookie for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday, and their Moon Dog, which was a hot dog being served in a pastry wrap, it was an easy decision to what to order on this visit. I ordered their Chocolate Shortbread with blackberry buttercream, which was a variation on a Linzer cookie with the difference being two thin chocolate cookies with lavender frosting in between with one of the cookies having a heart shape cut out from it and it was the perfect lush cookie for Valentine's Day! When I made it back to the neighborhood recently, I managed to find a parking spot along 38th Avenue. With it being morning, they had a lot more to offer, including pies, cakes, cuppies, galettes, muffins, scones both sweet and savory, quiche and a whole bunch of special sweet and savory menu items. Their one bakery associate helped to suggest menu items in which to order, as the line would get longer as I had to make my choice in a matter of minutes. This time I ordered their Breakfast Sandwich, which was a buttermilk biscuit cut in half served with a scrambled egg in a square shape, bacon and smoked gouda. Heated to order it was a truly exceptional sandwich. I also ordered something sweet, their Banana Peanut Butter Cup scone, and an additional savory item, their Savory Bread Pudding Square made with ham and cheese. I also wanted something to drink as they had drip coffee, but there was something about their apple juice, which was a classic Martinelli's juice served in a glass jar. My total bill would be about 18 dollars with this second visit, which was decent considering how many items I received upon this visit. Of course I tore into my breakfast sandwich and it was every bit as good as that place down the street that has become so famous that it need not be mentioned, it was simply elegant and delicious. My sweet and savory treats were a little hit and miss, as the scone was a wee bit too dry, and the bread pudding was a wee bit too moist. Next time, I'll be sure to order a slice, or even a whole pie, to celebrate Pi Day, or any day that calls for a great pie. What can't be denied is that Butter Love Bakeshop truly lives up to its name, baking with plenty of butter and a whole lot of love. On a May stroll I landed at the newer location of Let's Roll on Clement which had a location on Irving street in the past. Inside the walls it looks like a Post It on the Wall team building activity with lots of different neon color Post It on the wall with some interesting messages and drawings. They also have some interesting names for the rolled ice cream like the Man-Go -Away ( looks like some solo dates I seen on my social media feed) and Master Ube which has purple yam and Vanilla Ice Cream. Since I seen a lot of salty things on my social feed in SF recent I got the Salted Caramel topped with marshmallows. It was tasty and not too sweet and a bit salty like some in SF. Overall a refreshing ice treat especially when the sun is out. The only thing missing with the ice cream roll is the cherry on top.
