I always love coming by Tetsu's for a little Japanese cheesecake action. They did increase the price from $15 to $16, but still a worthy buy that's easy to eat and easy to share :) I actually went with the strawberry flavor this time to try something new (I usually go for ube or the seasonal - like the mango one was really good!). I'd say the strawberry is more of an okay flavor - more of the strawberry-milk flavor than strawberry-fruit which is fine. The cheesecake was a little drier than normal too - though I did go pretty much near close time. Overall, I still enjoyed the cheesecake and would go back for more hehe :) read more

Very disappointed with my experience at the Uncle Tetsu location. My mom's church ordered a large quantity of mini cheesecakes from this location for a Mother's Day event for everyone to take home. When I got home and took my very first bite, I discovered a long hair embedded inside the center of the cheesecake. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable, especially for food that was prepared for a special occasion. Hoping management takes food safety and quality control more seriously moving forward. read more

While picking something up at Stonestown, we ran into Uncle Tetsu and we both had to pick something up. The staff member helping us was very sweet and patient with us as we asked her about the ube cookies and new cheesecake flavor. I ended up getting the mango cheesecake and some Ube cookies while my friend got a cheese tart and the small cheesecake. I'm sure my friend enjoyed her treats with her family as much as I enjoyed mine at home. I really liked the ube cookies and was debating whether I should make the hour drive to get more! The cheesecake was light and fluffy - there was a good hint of mango, but it wasn't overpowering. I would definitely come back for more when I'm in the area. read more

Came here during the holidays. Some days there's a wait and other days if you're lucky you don't have to wait. On this particular day no line so, SCORE!! One can never go wrong with the good old Original Japanese Cheesecake flavor. It almost always NEVER disappoint. Love their cheesecake here. My family and I got hooked on this cheesecake ever since we tried it at Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo. We are so glad that we have one right in our own backyard in SF. We tried the Smores one during the holidays and although equally as delicious as the original the look and execution doesn't match. The place is kept clean which is a plus. Sometimes they even give out samples which my kids like. Will definitely be back to try out other stuff on their menu. read more

It's been a minute since I've been here but still just as good. I appreciate their seasonal flavors. The pumpkin and Ube (especially) tarts were fire. The crust was shortbread. The s'mores (another seasonal flavor) cheesecake was delicious. Not too overpowering. Just a hint of s'mores that didn't over power the actually tasted of the cheesecake. Unfortunately, when I opened it at home, the cheesecake looked compressed and cracked, with deep marks in the center and a broken edge (see photo). While I was at Stonestown, I decided to try another cheese tart, specifically the matcha flavor. The other current flavors are the original, ube, and black sesame. It was a quick process to get my food and pay. The store staff put the tart into a small paper bag so while I was carrying it outside, part of it broke off inside the bag as you can see in the photo, but fortunately we were able to salvage that part. The top of the tart is more hard whereas the majority of the body is actually soft and gooey. I was surprised by how sour the cheese tasted in this, which makes for an interesting combination with the slightly bitter and savory flavor of the matcha. It's not bad, it just wasn't necessarily what I expect when I see the word "cheese." The bottom of it is more similar to what you might get in a fruit tart, it's not that flakey like an egg tart would've been. Overall I thought it was still good, but I'm curious what it would taste like if the cheese was less sour and if the matcha flavor was even stronger. read more

Came in on the day before Christmas Eve. The mall was buzzing, looked like a tornado went through Sees candies nearby - but this was a quick and pleasant experience. Ordered an original and a basque. They had both in stock and appeared to have enough of everything. That is no small thing right before the holidays. Somebody behind the scenes must have predicted demand well. The original went to a friend as a gift and the basque was for company to enjoy. It was great as always. I've tried lots of the different varieties and I do think that the original is the best value and a crowd pleaser. If your a Cheesecake fan you might also want to try Zanze's in the city. Its like a soufflé and needs to be cut with fishing line as its so delicate. Overall, worth a little drive. Where malls are dying across America this one seems to be doin well and it has a great variety of relevant stores. read more

When my family and I were in Japan, my mom fell in love with the fluffiness and softness of Japan's cheesecakes. I was glad to find them here as well. If you've never had this type of cheesecake, it's similar to a soufflé. The texture melts in your mouth with a light creamy cheese flavor. Service was extremely quick because they already have some cakes in boxes already. I received my cakes right away after I paid at the counter. Flavors I recommend: 1. Original cheesecake- The original is always my mom's favorite. The cheese in this one is most apparent due to no other added flavors. 2. Pumpkin spice (seasonal flavor)- I've tried their pumpkin spice flavor and loved that one. They blend the flavors together so well. If you are a pumpkin spice fan, you're going to love this one. 3. Although I have had their cheesecakes on several occasions, this was the first time actually going to their location in Stonestown for two cakes for my wife's b'day. I was the first customer when they opened at 11 am but the only thing that they had available was their pumpkin cheesecake and had to wait an hour as their matcha and original were still baking. Get the original cheesecake - don't go for flavored ones! I have tried the original cheesecake here as well as the strawberry flavored one. The texture for all their cheesecakes is beyond awesome - it is extremely soft, melts on your tongue, and is perfectly moist (the cake does not crumble despite being spongy). In terms of flavor though, there is a VAST difference in how good the original one tastes, vs. the strawberry flavored one which was overly sugary and had that taste of low quality strawberry icecream. I also tried their matcha cheese tart. I would have liked it better if I was having it fresh and hot, vs. via online delivery. It had gone soggy and cold by the time it was delivered, so the flavor of the melted sweet cheese did not shine through. read more

We love this place! It's a little pricey, but that's because there's nothing really like it. It's spongy cheesecake, and it's sooo delicious. My husband is Japanese, and when he saw it, he had to order it. The first time we had the Oreo one, and this time we ordered the plain one. Everytime I walk by UncleTersu, the cheese tarts catch my attention. Used the excuse of mom's bday to finally try them. $18 for 4. Flavors available at the time included original, strawberry, blueberry, and ube. Didn't get to try all of the flavors - only a quarter of the strawberry and ube. Crispy shell and creamy filling. Flavors of both came through and not overly sweet. Liked the ube more. Glad to have finally tried them and they were nice little treats, but don't know if I'd buy them again anytime soon since they're a tad pricey. read more

My bf and I were in the SF area for a few days and decided to check out the mall where Uncle Tetsu is. I've seen this place on IG so I thought why not give it a try. I got the original cheesecake and 4 cheese tarts. I'm not sure if they had an off day but the cheesecake, which I understand isn't really cheesecake, barely had any flavor. The texture was like that of a sponge cake, which is fine, but this cake just didn't have much flavor at all. Same with the cheese tarts. I can barely tell the difference between the cheese, chocolate, and ube tarts. Good thing they weren't expensive, but I couldn't even finish them coz the flavors, or lack thereof, were just lackluster. read more

I am not a huge fan of cheesecake, actually in fact I am not a fan of cheesecake. But that all changed when I had Uncle Tetsu for the first time. These soft, jiggly, moist cakes are a distant cousin to cheesecakes in my book. They come in many different flavors and sizes. And importantly, they do not taste like cheesecake. Instead they taste like a sponge cake with a custard element. Need I say more? Why don't you try it out yourself. By the way, why don't you take it to the next level and try their burnt cakes. It arrives in a sizzling hot pan, and the aroma is mouth-watering. It also comes with a bowl of white rice and a side salad. I also always order the spicy scallop roll since I'm generally a fan of scallops. Overall, everything was delicious and very affordable for a sushi restaurant in the city.

We eat at Japanese restaurants often, so this wasn't a matter of being unfamiliar with the cuisine. When we politely asked the server if one of the dishes could be taken back, we were told that this "has never happened before" and that we simply weren't used to Japanese-style ramen. The response felt dismissive and somewhat defensive, rather than helpful. There was no effort to address the issue, offer an alternative, or show any concern that we didn't enjoy the meal. Instead, it felt like we were just expected to pay for everything regardless of our experience. We chose not to make a scene and paid the full bill, but the lack of customer care left a lasting negative impression. Good service means listening to customers and handling feedback with professionalism, something that was missing here. I hope they take feedback more seriously in the future. I won't be back. There are far to many great Japanese restaurants in the city.

If I'm not mistaken, I've been using here for about 1 year, and there hasn't been a single time that I haven't come back satisfied. They satisfied me every minute and continue to satisfy me. I often try cheesecakes. I don't like hard rough dishes, I just prefer it for its softness. And that softness almost melts in your mouth.
