Uncle tetsu is one of the best cheese tart in the Bay Area! In my opinion, the original cheese tart from Uncle Tetsu's is consistently the best choice.

Original Cheesecake

I ordered and tried the original cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu. It's a light, fluffy dessert that's easy to share with family or a small group. Pleasant and airy, though not something I'd go out of my way for.

Ube crinkle cookies

While picking something up at Stonestown, we ran into Uncle Tetsu and we both had to pick something up. The staff member helping us was very sweet and patient with us as we asked her about the ube cookies and new cheesecake flavor. I ended up getting the mango cheesecake and some Ube cookies while my friend got a cheese tart and the small cheesecake. I'm sure my friend enjoyed her treats with her family as much as I enjoyed mine at home. I really liked the ube cookies and was debating whether I should make the hour drive to get more! The cheesecake was light and fluffy - there was a good hint of mango, but it wasn't overpowering. I would definitely come back for more when I'm in the area.

I decided on a whim to finally try this spot after eyeballing the case many times in passing. The cheese tart was delicious and I'm sure even better if warmed up?! Service was quick and friendly. If seen some spots have samples which is great to try new flavs as well.

Walking past Uncle Tetsu without buying anything should be illegal Even one little cookie had me questioning all my life choices--in the best way. Imagine what the cheesecake could do! Sadly, I was counting calories that day... but don't worry, Uncle Tetsu. I'll be back for a sweet revenge. Btw, I bought a second box of Ube Crumble before I left... I just cannot resist it!

Has seasonal flavor cheesecakes constantly rotating! Check back to see what they have! Had the Cherry blossom cheesecake (seasonal for spring) and it was so pretty with dried flowers on top. Not very strong flavor, it is subtle and not overly sweet

Came here during the holidays. Some days there's a wait and other days if you're lucky you don't have to wait. On this particular day no line so, SCORE!! One can never go wrong with the good old Original Japanese Cheesecake flavor. It almost always NEVER disappoint. Love their cheesecake here. My family and I got hooked on this cheesecake ever since we tried it at Hillsdale Mall in San Mateo. We are so glad that we have one right in our own backyard in SF. We tried the Smores one during the holidays and although equally as delicious as the original the look and execution doesn't match. The place is kept clean which is a plus. Sometimes they even give out samples which my kids like. Will definitely be back to try out other stuff on their menu.

It's been a minute since I've been here but still just as good. I appreciate their seasonal flavors. The pumpkin and Ube (especially) tarts were fire. The crust was shortbread. The s'mores (another seasonal flavor) cheesecake was delicious. Not too overpowering. Just a hint of s'mores that didn't over power the actually tasted of the cheesecake. Def coming back to check out their other flavors!

"I bought an Uncle Tetsu cheesecake yesterday from the Stonestown location. Unfortunately, when I opened it at home, the cheesecake looked compressed and cracked, with deep marks in the center and a broken edge (see photo). This didn't look like the usual fluffy, smooth cheesecake I expect from Uncle Tetsu. I've enjoyed their cheesecakes before, so this was disappointing. Hoping this was just a one-time issue and that quality control can be improved."

- Quick service and friendly cashier! - Cake is great - delicious and smooth! I have tried the original, strawberry, pandan, and cherry blossom for multiple occasions, casual craving, movie day and birthdays! A to-go choice!

Delicious cheesecake!!!! Not from SF and I been wanting to try out Uncle Tetsu and it did not disappoint. The cheesecake is soft, fluffy and creamy. Tried the burnt basque, original cheesecake, pandan coconut and the seasonal flavor mango. Customer service is great! Will definitely go back when I'm in sf again

This place has amazing desserts! It was a takeout counter near the food court in the mall, and there were a few scattered tables nearby. The original cheesecake tart was amazing. A bit noisy, but great for a quick sweet treat.

Matcha cheese tart
Sydney J.

While I was at Stonestown, I decided to try another cheese tart, specifically the matcha flavor. The other current flavors are the original, ube, and black sesame. It was a quick process to get my food and pay. The store staff put the tart into a small paper bag so while I was carrying it outside, part of it broke off inside the bag as you can see in the photo, but fortunately we were able to salvage that part. The top of the tart is more hard whereas the majority of the body is actually soft and gooey. I was surprised by how sour the cheese tasted in this, which makes for an interesting combination with the slightly bitter and savory flavor of the matcha. It's not bad, it just wasn't necessarily what I expect when I see the word "cheese." The bottom of it is more similar to what you might get in a fruit tart, it's not that flakey like an egg tart would've been. Overall I thought it was still good, but I'm curious what it would taste like if the cheese was less sour and if the matcha flavor was even stronger.

The restaurant is narrow with tables of four on either side. Tons of photos and hand drawn pictures are taped on the walls. We were warmly greeted and both sushi, lunch, and dinner menus and cups of hot tea were brought over. We each ordered off the laminated lunch menu. Miso soup came with each order. They offer a daily student lunch special as Lincoln HS is located nearby. When I asked about the student lunch special I was told anyone could take advantage of the special. Our orders were quickly made and brought to our table - * daughter had bento combo lunch A - chicken teriyaki, tempura with one shrimp, and four pieces California roll * I had bento lunch combo T - tempura with one shrimp, four slices sashimi, and four pieces of California roll. All good. * hubby got katsu chicken donburi - it was like chicken karaage rather than chicken cutlet. He said good. Once again we were pleasantly surprised at the number of to go orders placed while we dined in. I can't tell you how many times I've walked by this restaurant thinking how does a small business owner survive. Goes to show can't judge a book by its cover. Each time a local entered he/she was greeted by name. Service was attentive and our tea cups constantly refilled. So far I'm sticking to my 2026 eat local in the 'hood list. This being #6.

We ended up waiting about 15 minutes to be seated, which wasn't too bad. Since the space is quite small, it can get pretty busy. I always order the Beef Amiyaki (grilled marinated USDA ribeye steak). It arrives in a sizzling hot pan, and the aroma is mouth-watering. It also comes with a bowl of white rice and a side salad. I also always order the spicy scallop roll since I'm generally a fan of scallops. Overall, everything was delicious and very affordable for a sushi restaurant in the city.

Two dishes in particular were especially unenjoyable. The ramen was not to our taste at all, and the calamari was very underwhelming, the batter had little to no flavor. We eat at Japanese restaurants often, so this wasn't a matter of being unfamiliar with the cuisine. When we politely asked the server if one of the dishes could be taken back, we were told that this "has never happened before" and that we simply weren't used to Japanese-style ramen. The response felt dismissive and somewhat defensive, rather than helpful. There was no effort to address the issue, offer an alternative, or show any concern that we didn't enjoy the meal. Instead, it felt like we were just expected to pay for everything regardless of our experience. We chose not to make a scene and paid the full bill, but the lack of customer care left a lasting negative impression. Good service means listening to customers and handling feedback with professionalism, something that was missing here. I hope they take feedback more seriously in the future. I won't be back. There are far to many great Japanese restaurants in the city.

The sushi menu was very interesting, but we decided on the Mama Maki (eel and albacore) and the Cream Roll (scallops). The Mama Maki is definitely something that I would order again. The pork ramen was also the highlight of the dinner. The soup was extremely flavorful, but honestly the 4 thin slices of pork were dry. Everything else tasted good.
