We went for lunch and it was disappointing. Service was poor and the food was mediocre. We ordered table side guacamole and waited forever. Finally asked the waitress about it and the guac came about 5 minutes after our entrees. We asked for jalapenos to put on out otherwise bland food and they again took forever, and when they arrived, they brought four plates and four spoons, just weird. They took the guacamole off our bill but it was still $20 a person for lunch with two ice teas and a water. No one in our party of three described their food good. Okay was about the best we could muster. The guacamole was probably the best thing that any of had there, but the chips that came with it and the salsa were really greasy - and I mean visibility greasy. In my opinion, there are much better choices for Mexican in town: Sin Fronteres, Jalapenos, Mi Lindo Cancun Grill, Mexican Café, El Toro Bravo, Chevy's, and probably a few others that I forgot or I have not been to yet. But this Memorial seemed liked the perfect time to try UJ because I thought it would be relatively uncrowded and my favorite local place was closed. Glad I did. Food was good. Drinks were fine. I visited on Sunday, Christmas Eve Eve. The restaurant was packed, but luckily there was a small two person table available for us. The waitress we had was very sweet, but kept mixing up our orders and forgetting to bring us utensils. We figured she was just tired and didn't mind much! I used to look forward to going to Uncle Julio's and would always recommend it to anyone who was asking about a yummy place to eat. However this time I left completely disappointed on how the quality of service and food has gone down. I was given stale chips and had to ask for more and got an attitude when asked, also we asked for plates to eat a shared appetizer and all of them were dirty. I am giving a 2 star review because the person who brought the food and took our place was very kind! I wish he was our waiter! I used to love this place and would recommend it in a heartbeat but that is no longer the case and wouldn't recommend it and also would tell people to try another place near by. Tableside Guac! We earned a free one when we signed up for the rewards program and have ordered one every time since. Fresh made right in front of you and to your preference - mild to WOWZA! The service is the best experienced in a chain and rivals that of a high-end fine dining experience. The food is definitely fresh made and so far, everything we have tried on the menu we enjoyed. My favorite is the Soup and Salad and Hubby's is the Tamales. He always orders a tortilla soup as well. This location is usually very busy on weekends and later in the day. Hubby and I have only hit one extended dining experience and with every table full in the restaurant, we knew what to expect. read more

This restaurant is a nice change. Our waiter Aaron was cool. However at arrival at 4pm we were there was going to be quite a wait because the restaurant was completely booked until 8 p.m. . We were a party of 7. I didn't realize that we could make reservations. After about 30 minutes we were escorted towards the back where there were two booths to accommodate 8 people. There was a empty table for 6 and a empty table for4. The table for six was reserved we asked if the table for four could be joined to one of the booths so we can at least be together. We were told no that it was a safety concern. These two tables in this picture never had not one party seated. So why couldn't party at 7 be seated at these 2 tables? read more

Unfortunately, it was a long wait for the fajitas, water and apps. I understand they make everything from scratch, but they should not have persuaded us to order something and wait so long. I'd never heard of this chain until yesterday when my son suggested it & I'm glad he did. Everything we ordered was delicious & nicely served. I had the steak & chicken fajitas which came with good-sized portions of cheese, sour cream, guac, & pico as well as rice & beans as sides. My husband had Juanita's platter which had 2 enchiladas, a taco, & a tamale & loved them all. My son splurged & ordered the Chocolate Lovers Piñata which was WAY more chocolate & goodies than 5 people could eat. It was fun h tasty but I wouldn't order this unless there were 8 to 10 people to share it. Our waiter (I'd give him 5 stars) was very personable & very knowledgeable about everything on the menu including the drinks. I didn't give Uncle Julio's 5 stars because it was very noisy (why are restaurants today so loud?) and the bathroom too small for a large, busy restaurant. Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night with no reservations. The wait was at least an hour. We ordered guac, which we requested the option to have it made in front of us. I ordered the shrimp taco dish, while my boyfriend ordered the Guadalajara (fajita) dish as he heard the restaurant is known for their fajitas. Not a big fan of meat, I kind of wished I had gotten his dish. The steak was made Medium Rare (as requested) and all together it was good. The shrimp tacos ingredients on the other hand made the tacos too sweet. The shrimp itself didn't have a flavor that stood out within the taco. It also, didn't help with the kind of soft tortilla shell. I was looking for a hard shell to contrast the taste. Our server was good; maybe a little to persistence, it made us think we were being slightly rushed. Even though we said we didn't want to order anything else, she got our check for us even though we didn't ask for it yet. The best thing at the restaurant was the drinks. Can you say AMAZING! If I come back it will be just to drink and to eat off of his plate of fajitas lol. Highly recommend the Raspberry Margarita and shrimp wrapped in bacon (comes in the Guadalajara dish and as an appetizer)! read more

This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant and last night I want to give great feed back on the service I received. Last Saturday night was my wife's birthday and I ha e made a reservation that wasn't entered correctly and was first informed that it will be now an2 hour wait. The hostess talked to Denny who was working near the bar and asked will he be able to accommodate my family. Well he over exceeded our expectations making my wife's night beautiful. Prior to leaving I wanted to reach out to speak to the manager David Rodriguez to give him and Denny positive feedback and I hope this message gets back or pushed up because they have made me a loyal customer and will continue to drive 30 mins for this type of service. I would give them a zero but I can't, I would have liked to give an honest rating but I went to uncle Julio's on a Thursday at 5:30 and wanted to try it out for future get togethers with friends. It was raining cats and dogs and wasn't very crowded and waiters and waitresses were standing around. I was seated immediately and given menus. I looked and chose a meal after about 5 minutes. I sit there waiting on someone to take my drink order but no one came to serve me, I waited another 20 minutes before I got up an left. Won't return. read more

My review pertains to their reservations system. I called to make a reservation for a party of 8- the phone system directs all reservations to be made on line. I tried to make reservation on line and the online system states for a large party to call the restaurant. I called the restaurant back and 1) told to use online system after already explaining I tried and 2) booked because they cant accomodate a table of 8, but a table of 6 is available. Cant they push tables together? Is it that hard to accommodate 2 more people at a table? read more

Bottom line -- food is not all that good and the prices are very high. The salsa is just like the adobo sauce from a can of chipotle peppers -- no chunks of veggie nor flavor beyond the very heavy smoked pepper sauce. Easy to fix, though -- pour out the salsa, rinse the dish, and replace with On The Border medium salsa. The salsa sets the expectation for the rest of the meal and it definitely lived down to my expecations. My wife had flautas (taquitos). Also not very good. The taquitos from Baja Fresh are much better (and less expensive. The beans were very salty with no other hint of flavor. I had a tamale, a taco, and enchilada plate. The taco meat has some odd spice combination I found unappealing. Enchis were bland -- the chicken was boiled (likely w/o spices) with not too much in the way of spices added before rolling into an enchi. I am from the southwest U.S. so I know good TexMex and this is not it. On top of the food, the prices are just stupid high for the quality of the food. That being said, the place was jammed with locals that know about crab cakes and not much else. The best place for tex mex in Annapolis is stil Baja Fresh. read more

The amount of food is large. The service was okay we order another glass of wine and she took the first that was not empty. They do a good pour, but expensive if not at happy hour. My husband had the steak fajitas and loved them. I had the Taco salad lots of avocado, but you know how you like the bottom of the shell to get soft with the filling not at this restaurant. But in general was really nice tasting. We sat in the bar and they have 2 large TV's and for the 1 1/2 got to watch a Dish TV Info Commercial over and over again. We went to Uncle Julio's last week for our holiday party. The food was NOT tasty, but what really blew my mind was the lack of service from not one, but two servers. We ordered our drinks and were asked several time who ordered what and who wanted what. Several drinks were wrong and we knew the food would be no different. We had one person ask for a lemonade, not once, but three different times. She was drinking just water, so wouldn't a waiter want to get a lemonade and add on to the bill? My one co-worker ended up receiving her fish tacos almost 30 minutes after the rest of us. Here's what happened to one co-worker. She told the waiter she wanted 2 chicken street tacos and double rice, hold the beans. The waiter brought out 3 chicken street tacos, rice and a cup of beans. The waiter removed the beans from her plate and left. She then mentioned to the other server that she ordered 2 chicken street tacos and wanted to make sure 2 were rang in because her boss was paying and she didn't want to be charged for 3, since she only asked for 2. The server came back and said they rang in 3 and could not verify she only asked for 2, so they were going to need her to take her extra taco and put it on a dessert plate for them to take to the kitchen and throw away. Say WHAT? No apologies. No sorry it was their mistake. The TRAINING server typed it in wrong. No big deal. What type of manager "demands" she get the taco back so he can throw it away. Needless to say, all 10 of us will not be back and we have shared our story with many local friends and family. What a shame. read more

I very much enjoyed my experience at Uncle Julio's. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. (The parking lot was PACKED and we thought we'd have a bit of a wait). Our server was absolutely wonderful. She was bright and bubbly and talked to you as a friend. I am so sad I am not 100% sure of her name... maybe Aria? Next time I see her I'll be sure to get her name and update. I enjoyed a Skinny Patrone margarita. SO INCREDIBLY FRESH!! No syrup here! All fresh ingredients and I could have enjoyed a whole pitcher! There are only two vegetarian options on the menu (I do get the feeling that you could ask for other/ special options as the food seems freshly made but I did not.). I chose the vegetable quesadilla from the appetizer menu. They were sooooooo yummy!! The table salsa is different but delicious. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the quest. It's not special and isn't that great. I mixed the yummy salsa in the queso and enjoyed it that way but I don't think I'll order it again. Oh yes, and the guacamole is delish! First visit and like I told my Mom, it was cool but I'd likely not return unless I had an immense craving for tex-mex that I couldn't otherwise cure elsewhere. I've had better. Thank goodness we had a reservations otherwise the wait would've likely turned us away. The service was ok, there were a few things we had to remind our server about and the wait for drinks was terribly long which our server attributed to not enough hands at the bar. It was a Saturday so I'm sure they know what to expect so I didn't particularly care for that. The table made guac was delicious and the homemade chips were great which we had pretty much polished off by time the drinks finally arrived. The drink was probably the biggest disappointment. I had what was touted as the strongest and hottest (had jalapeño) drink but uh, no. It's actually two drinks in one, they leave the shaker at your table. My Mom was worried I'd be under the table and like 3 sips in I told her this is nothing to worry about. The flavor was decent but it did nothing for me otherwise, I barely tasted any alcohol. The menu is so so, I had a grilled shrimp dish that was good but it didn't blow me away. But the atmosphere is pleasant, it's a popular spot.
