Ehhh, wasn't impressed at all. I've been a few times now to get an accurate assessment of this location. Let's start with the service- Table service was extremely slow. We were sat within the expected 20 minute wait, however our server was obviously buried. It took about 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. The restaurant was obviously busy, but that shouldn't be an excuse for slow service, menus, knives, broken glass under our table. The food came out extremely fast, which was another sign that I wasn't happy about and the check cashout is a bit odd, but I liked it. You get a computer to swipe your card and close out. It allows you to leave as you wish without waiting for a second return with the bill once cashed out by the server. Drinks- We had a few premium margaritas and the sangria. The sangria was awesome. Fresh, amazing flavor and topped with soda water for a little carbonation. The margarita was made with fresh lime juice, quality tequila and tasted great. Now for the Food- We started with the guacamole, which was decent, not the greatest. The chips and salsa were better in my opinion. We ordered the chicken fajitas, which literally arrived 3 minutes after ordering. I guess they pre-cook the food when busy. The chicken came out with the skin still on it, that was odd. The peppers were still raw and kinda tossed on a cold sizzle plate and served. You get two tortillas for a dish that requires 4, however you can ask for more. Rice and beans were actually really good, better than the fajitas. All in all, not the greatest tex-mex style food in the area. We will see if they settle in to the groove once they get a little more refined. They have some shining points and hopefully can get the low points addressed. Chevys will still be my go to spot for Tex-mex for now. read more

I must say, the only reason I would drive 40 minutes to Uncle Julio's is for the chocolate piñata. Grabbed the girls and headed to Annapolis with high hopes of sharing the experience of breaking a piñata at the table. We sat down, had some ok food. The steak was tough and the bacon on the shrimp was not all the way cooked. They gave us more than enough toppings for the fajitas and a few tortillas. I frantically looked over the menu realizing I did not see the piñata listed as dessert and I was sad. I subsequently asked my waitress and she replied "we don't have it anymore". That piñata definitely made the trip to Uncle Julio's for lack luster Mexican food worth it and now they don't even offer it. A big thumbs down wasted my time and money. read more

My husband and I went to Uncle Julio's last night and we really enjoyed it. Some of these reviews are unrealistic and way too picky. It was a busy Friday night and our wait was an hour but had the mindset that it was going to be that way, so we had the Platinum Swirl at the bar. It was delicious! We were seated at exactly one hour at a booth. Our server was quick and attentive and the food was DELICIOUS AND FRESH. We ordered the skirt steak fajitas. I had to use the restroom and to my surprise, the bathroom was very clean. To conclude, please don't have unrealistic expectations. This was a friendly, clean, and tasty establishment. read more

I would describe my experience as below average. In short, and very unlike me, it was just completely not memorable. The food tasted fine, however the gastric experience later indicated otherwise. The drinks were served, yes served, but not with a smile. The mixed drinks did not leave you thinking they were anything more then a mix, creativity is so easily accomplished. The desert ball thing was a cute attempt to create a memory, but sadly flavor and execution fell short. There are a number of great options in the area that should be explored before I would consider returning. read more

Didn't even eat here. We stopped in at 1pm on a Saturday for a late lunch. The hostess asked if we had a reservation. We said no. In a super condescending tone she said our next reservation is at 9:15 tonight. Her attitude was a massive turnoff. We won't go back. read more

Some friends invited me out and just mentioned "meeting up" around 8. I'm so glad I read the reviews that recommended making a reservation. Do it people! Opentable is your friend. The place was packed on a Saturday night and I made a 8:15 reservation a few hours before. We barely had a wait once we arrived despite how packed they were. The atmosphere was nice and there were various types of visitors. I saw friends, dates, small families, large group gatherings, and some girls nights. It wasn't too loud for as many people were there. I saw a picture of their infamous margarita and just had to try it. So so good! My food was delicious and came out really fast. Our waiter was attentive and helpful since it was my first time. I liked it and would consider going back. I'm not a Tex Mex snob to compare, but I had a great experience. read more

The Jalapeño margarita is awesome!!! Also, the chocolate piñata is something we all look forward to, it doesn't have to be anyone's birthday. read more

This place was underwhelming. The salsa, queso, guac (aka the holy trinity of Mexican food) were all below average. The menu was also disappointing. Honestly, it's almost exclusively fajitas. There are not many other dishes to choose from. Overall, there are many better choices for Mexican food in Annapolis. I will say, their service was great. read more

Overpriced, standard Tex-mex with a fun novelty dessert and good service. This place is all about the chocolate piñata, which is kind of a gimmick or novelty. We took three elementary kids. They enjoyed breaking it and the treats inside. Consider going once but at $25 per piñata, I won't be going back. Been there, done that. The dessert itself is just ok. It's all about the experience. The services was good. We made a reservation for 7, and didn't have any issues. They have a kitchen viewing station that was fun to watch for a few minutes while waiting for our meals. The meal prices are too high. $15 for a chicken quesadilla. $25 for an enchilada meal. Come on. The drinks were similarly overpriced. $15 for a 8oz skinny margarita (patron and lime only). The food is on par with any other Tex-Mex chain. Glad we went once, but I won't return. read more

Restaurant wasn't full but there was a 35 minute wait time for one person. The chips tasted like they were fried in rancid oil, the taco salad was overpriced for a bunch of lettuce and it wasn't very good. I ordered shrimp fajitas to go and let's just say that the presentation wasn't great and the meal smelled better than what it tasted; now I have an upset stomach from food that I couldn't finish. I didn't complain because I've been wanting to try this place for some time. I will not try this place again in the future. read more

Got 8 nacho chips with a piece of chicken on each for almost 17 dollars. This was a total rip off! I ordered a beer and go to the restroom and it's gone, while I was waiting for my to go order. Not ever going back! read more

Uncle Julio's Annapolis - Almost 17 dollars for nachos and this is what we get. A total of 8 chips with 1 piece of chicken on each. Total rip off! Horrible service! - Mexican Near Me - Annapolis, Maryland

The food here is so good and the ambiance is great, too. My only gripe with Uncle Julios is this: the restaurant is huge and always seems to be buzzing with staff members. So, why the exclusivity? It seems that every time I visit, they have atrocious wait time (yes, in pre-Covid times as well). We've visited at different times during g the day and it's always the same story...45-50 minute wait. And the hostesses aren't very gracious when telling you about it either. It's almost as if they don't want you to wait so they give you the wait time in hopes that you'll dine elsewhere. They don't even bother to let you know that you can wait at the bar, either. We had to ask once and they were so off put by our request. That being said, thanks to Covid, we just order to-go and don't have to deal with the attitudes/egos and just get to enjoy our delicious meal. Hoping UJ takes the time to retrain hostesses, as they are the first impression of the restaurant. read more

Nice decor, ample seating, casual ambience. Solid good food. What more could you ask for at Uncle Julio's. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and we were greeted with a 30 min wait. No problem, I've been patiently waiting to check this place out so 30mins wasn't nothing. As soon as we were seated we were brought chips and salsa. Everything is made in house, including the table side guacamole. Hubby ordered chicken and steak fajitas which is one of their popular dishes and I ordered the Juanita Platter. Everything was delicious. I wanted to try dessert but I stuffed. Can't until I visit again. read more

Lmao this place is terrible. We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday because she wanted the piñata. We never made it that far. Ordered apps and the waiter asked her if she wanted the large or small beef queso crap. Lmao. There is just one option. When I brought it to his attention, he seemed irritated. We stopped at apps. So two apps and two drink were @ $60. FOH. No atmosphere. Poor service and the food was just okay. Never again. So bad we didn't even take pics. read more

I've been here twice for lunch and had seating both outside and inside. Both visit the customer service was amazing. When it's warm I definitely prefer outside seating with the nice breeze. This location is new (I believe about a month old)and from what I saw still very clean. The staff from the hostess, the waiters and on duty manager were all pleasant. I will say after 12 noon they do get very busy. Mainly because of the lunch rush. The food is absolutely delicious. I'm not sure why others said the food was bland because what my partner and I ordered was all very tasty. So far we've had the steak fajita, the honey chipotle chicken, the chicken tamales and a few made well alcoholic beverages. Definitely an A+ in our book. We will for surely come back! read more

I've been to different locations and the food is always yummy. This gets 5 stars because of Chris who was our waiter in the bar section at 430 PM Sunday Aug 5. He was so quick and attentive !!! He was pleasant even thou it was busy. The best customer service I've ever had. I got the jalisco shrimp steak and chicken fajitas dish. He got the enchiladas dish . Also the appetizer of guac and queso ! Everything was tasty and the food brought out quickly. read more

It was ok. Less than ok for the price. Steak fajitas steak was so tough couldn't eat it but the chicken and shrimp were decent. Habanero honey bacon wrapped shrimp was delish. But I won't be coming back by my own volition. Sometimes family wants to go places you don't. Sometimes I wonder how clean places are. Here's the HVAC intake vent in men's bathroom. read more

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The beef tacos are to die for. I loved the table side guacamole. The fajitas are great. The bacon wrapped shrimp (minus the honey), are just the right amount of spicy. We even had the giant chocolate piñata filled with churros, strawberries, and much more and it was... oh so very good. Lol. My favorite Tex-Mex to date! I also had an exceptional sangria! read more

This was my third time to dine here at Uncle Julio's. I like the ambiance and service. However, the food is just "okay". My first issue is with the watery dip they serve with the complimentary chips. (you have to pay for the good stuff) This, within itself is not that much of an issue, but on each occasion that I have eaten here, the main dish that I have ordered was pretty bland. I am not really that much of a picky eater when going out, but I would like a little flavor in my food. This place will do for a social outing, but if is really delicious food that you are seeking; go elsewhere. read more

This rating is for a combination of food and service. TLDR - food was above average and service was...lacking. We arrived on a Tuesday evening around 845. Ordered the fajitas for 2 which was recommended by the waitress. She stressed that their value proposition is that everything is made FRESH. That's why it was curious when our fajitas arrived...silent with no sizzle. Also the tortillas weren't even lukewarm. We asked our server to warm the tortillas and meat portion. She hurriedly explained that would be difficult since everything was made fresh. Translation...everything was so fresh it was close to cold. #sideeye. She took away the tortillas and meat and returned after several minutes with warmed meat...and no tortillas, which she said were being made - you guessed it - FRESH. So the meat cooled significantly while we waited for the tortillas to arrive. Seems like if the complaint was for cold food, you might try to get them back out to the table, warm and together. I dunno.... Once tortillas finally arrived, waitress asked if everything was ok. To which I responded that the meat was getting cold again. Her response was to walk away. The tortillas were good and the meat a somewhat flavorful. The ambiance was nice as well, but the service sucked. Probably won't return. read more

Service is good. Drinks are good. Food is horrible. Ordered the Matador platter. Food came out cold. Enchiladas tasted freezer burnt and over microwaved. Interestingly enough you cant smell food cooking from the kitchen and even the fajitas come out quite. Everything points to this place just warming up food in a microwave and serving it to the customers. Bathrooms are filthy and interestingly enough I found an employee hanging out in the bathroom texting. Wont return to this location. Save your money and pick a different place to eat. read more

Uncle Julio's Annapolis - Dessert is awesome! - Mexican Near Me - Annapolis, Maryland

We've stopped in here three times now. Overall, I feel like I've been disappointed with my experiences each time for various reasons. 1. The restaurant is always *packed* and the waiters are crazy busy - so things tend to get lost in the shuffle. We ordered a drink and queso our first visit... the queso never came. The drink came at the end of the meal. No real apology was offered. 2. The hostesses the second visit were very unfriendly - literally asked my name and then shoved a buzzer into my hand without looking up from her computer at our second visit. 3. Our third visit, a few weeks ago, our service was improved but the food left a lot to be desired. The beef tacos I ordered were not worth eating, and the chips were stale. The spicy margarita was - as always - good, but overall it was not worth the price of the plate. Despite being close by and convenient, I think in the future we will be frequenting some of our old favorite Mexican restaurants in the area instead. Uncle Julio's just isn't holding up to the hype. read more

We attended the soft opening tonight at Uncle Julio's and we had the best time! Our server was Josue and he did a wonderful job, extremely attentive and knowledgeable of the food. We had an allergy issue and the kitchen took care of it, no questions asked. The portion sizes were perfect, the guys in our party were totally stuffed. Although, we did make room for the churro piñata!! We had the tamales and ceviche, multiple types of fajitas and a shrimp w/pineapple mango salsa on a bed of zucchini noodles. Delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Reservation is definitely recommended at this place. Since we didn't have a reservation, we tried getting there early, around 4pm, to avoid the dinner crowd but it still required us to wait so we chose to sit at the patio with no wait time instead. It could get a bit too warm sitting outside during the summer though. CLEANLINESS: This is MAIN reason why I gave it two stars. While I was in the restroom I witnessed one of their servers coming out from the toilet stall without washing his hands! He took care of his business, flushed the toilet, and went straight back to waitering his tables. GROSS!! This is absolutely unacceptable and must be enforced! FOOD: The food is great but quite pricy for what you're getting. But if you crave Mexican food in this area, this place is not bad. SERVICE: Considering how busy this place could get, our server was somewhat attentive but we had to ask for refill on the drinks a few times. read more

I've been to this location twice. Once on opening day and again this past Sunday. Both times the service was below par. I can completely forgive opening day but Sunday was pretty bad. We got there around 2pm. Our party of 5 sat at a high top in the bar because we were told they couldn't accommodate a party larger than 4 due to reservations and current wait list. We were fine with the bar.... ....Until we realized that the service pretty much sucked in the bar. Our server took our drink order and then disappeared for at least 10 minutes. When she finally came back, she had no drinks and wanted to take our order. So we ordered and then we got our drinks minus a raspberry ice tea. It took 20 minutes for my friend to get her iced tea and we had to remind our server two times for it. We waited 20 minutes for a guacamole and queso combo appetizer and again had to remind our server about it. My friend ordered regular chicken fajitas but got the honey chicken fajitas. She never refilled the drinks unless we asked. We had to ask for more chips and salsa. All of the menus when they were laid down were wet as was the table. About half of us were quite underwhelmed on the taste and quality of the food we ordered. Everyone else was just barely satisfied. Guess I'm going back to my tried and true Chevy's!! read more

Visited this establishment yesterday for lunch. The lunch prices cannot be beat. The drinks looked great. UnfortunatelyI was there during work hours so I was unable to give them a try. Staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. The food came out quickly, but not so quickly that it concerned me. If you are not a pork eater, please keep in mind that the pinto beans have pork, the black beans do not. Their guacamole was fantastic and gets prepared right at the side of your table so that you can customize your taste (if you download the app you get a free table side guacamole you're welcome). I think it's safe to say that I will revisit soon. read more

Over priced mediocre food. I ordered the lunch nachos as pictured below for $10.99! Six tortilla chips with cheese for $10.99!! I sent it back for lunch portion quesadillas which was the exact same portion size as my child's quesadilla. Whomever decided on the portion sizes needs to reconsider or adjust the prices. This is not a "Fine" Mexican restaurant where portion sizes are smaller and prices aren't. On the positive note, the waiter gave us great service and was apologetic for not warning us on the portion size. Maybe we'll come back and try the mix drinks since we only had a couple of beers read more

This location of Uncle Julio's literally just opened yesterday so of course the wait and parking were ridiculous. The wait was supposed to be an hour but we waited longer than that. After the hour was up, I had to follow up with the hostess to see how many people before we were seated. She kindly explained everything to me with a smile and apologized for the wait. When we were finally seated, my friends and I ordered a round of margaritas and all of us went for the Cozumel Shrimp Tacos. I had the fresh fruit margarita of the day which happened to be watermelon. Everything was delicious. The only thing I didn't care for were the sopapillas. They weren't horrible but I just felt like something was missing. I've got my eye on that chocolate piñata. Nevertheless, we received service with a smile. This is definitely going to be one of my new favorite spots. I'll probably wait until the hype dies down a little before returning. To me, the food and drinks were worth the wait. read more

This was by far not a good meal. My daughter has gluten allergies and we were assured they could accommodate. When we finally got to our table and reviewed the menu and the waiter took our order there was not much available on the gluten free menu so she had to order from the regular menu with modifications, when the check came she was charged for everything that was modified to meet her dietary needs which was ridiculous because she had no choice. Will I ever bring my family back to Uncle Julio's Absolutely NOT. read more

I attended the Soft Opening on Saturday night. The place was full, so I was a little nervous sitting down. You never know what you're going to get with a soft opening - understandably. However, to our surprise, they did amazing! The service was above and beyond what we expected on only their second night. The kitchen was fast and the food was delicious! I was here with 3 other friends and we each had a few drinks - the bar tenders were really fast and made great drinks. They weren't the same watered down frozen drinks most restaurant chains offer. These had great flavor and had a good punch, but not too strong. They had unique twists on some classics, and a few of their own. I highly suggest the swirl! Everything we had, from the table side guacamole to the shrimp, chicken and steak fajitas was amazing! The only thing I wished was different was that their tortilla chips were strong to hold up to the guac and queso we ordered, but other than that, everything was fantastic! This is definitely somewhere I'd come to grab a great happy hour drink outside by their fire pit or date night dinner before a movie! I would definitely suggest this to friends & family as I plan to be back myself! read more

Y'all, this place is AMAZING. I've been there 3 times and it's been consistently good with each visit. The waiters are so nice and attentive and the food is always fresh. Now I will say that the salsa is INCREDIBLY fresh and is actually warm, which is something I'm not too keen on. But if you wait like 10 minutes it eventually cools down and all will be right with the world. Now, the prices are a little more expensive, but you are definitely getting your money's worth. I've gotten the chicken fajitas. And when I got them the first time I was kind of surprised at the fact there weren't as many pieces of chicken as there are in other restaurants. But oh my god the pieces are HUGE. And I've only managed to eat two tacos and there's chicken still left. All in all if you want a+ mexican food and a+ service, this is the place to go! read more

Great time at this fine Tex mex establishment. We took one of our children here mainly for the chocolate pinata's. Most of us had a fajita concoction that they specialize in. I don't think there where any complaints around the table. Not a fan of the table side guacamole but it was ok. The piñata was great though. So much fun for my 4 year old to hit and I am a fan of the fruit and churo inside. I definitely recommend this restaurant great food and margaritas! read more

Reservations were made and my wife advised the hostess (cannot recall her name) that my party and I were coming to celebrate my birthday. It was very disappointing that it was not acknowledged, but I was not going to make a big deal about it because I was interested in seeing what the restaurant was about. The food was pretty good; prepared well. The Lobster fajita combo was excellent. I was told this restaurant has very good drinks, but this location did not uphold impression I assumed it would have. They tasted very good in terms of flavor, but if you're looking to enjoy the effects of an alcoholic beverage, I personally was not impressed. read more
