I must say, the only reason I would drive 40 minutes to Uncle Julio's is for the chocolate piñata. Grabbed the girls and headed to Annapolis with high hopes of sharing the experience of breaking a piñata at the table. We sat down, had some ok food. The steak was tough and the bacon on the shrimp was not all the way cooked. They gave us more than enough toppings for the fajitas and a few tortillas. I frantically looked over the menu realizing I did not see the piñata listed as dessert and I was sad. I subsequently asked my waitress and she replied "we don't have it anymore". That piñata definitely made the trip to Uncle Julio's for lack luster Mexican food worth it and now they don't even offer it. A big thumbs down wasted my time and money. read more

The chips tasted like they were fried in rancid oil, the taco salad was overpriced for a bunch of lettuce and it wasn't very good. My husband and I went to Uncle Julio's last night and we really enjoyed it. Some of these reviews are unrealistic and way too picky. It was a busy Friday night and our wait was an hour but had the mindset that it was going to be that way, so we had the Platinum Swirl at the bar. It was delicious! We were seated at exactly one hour at a booth. Our server was quick and attentive and the food was DELICIOUS AND FRESH. We ordered the skirt steak fajitas. I would describe my experience as below average. In short, and very unlike me, it was just completely not memorable. The food tasted fine, however the gastric experience later indicated otherwise. The drinks were served, yes served, but not with a smile. The mixed drinks did not leave you thinking they were anything more then a mix, creativity is so easily accomplished. The place was packed on a Saturday night and I made a 8:15 reservation a few hours before. We barely had a wait once we arrived despite how packed they were. The atmosphere was nice and there were various types of visitors. I saw friends, dates, small families, large group gatherings, and some girls nights. It wasn't too loud for as many people were there. I saw a picture of their infamous margarita and just had to try it. So so good! My food was delicious and came out really fast. The food here is so good and the ambiance is great, too. My only gripe with Uncle Julios is this: the restaurant is huge and always seems to be buzzing with staff members. So, why the exclusivity? It seems that every time I visit, they have atrocious wait time (yes, in pre-Covid times as well). We've visited at different times during g the day and it's always the same story...45-50 minute wait. And the hostesses aren't very gracious when telling you about it either. It's almost as if they don't want you to wait so they give you the wait time in hopes that you'll dine elsewhere. They don't even bother to let you know that you can wait at the bar, either. We had to ask once and they were so off put by our request. That being said, thanks to Covid, we just order to-go and don't have to deal with the attitudes/egos and just get to enjoy our delicious meal. I've been here twice for lunch and had seating both outside and inside. Both visit the customer service was amazing. When it's warm I definitely prefer outside seating with the nice breeze. This location is new (I believe about a month old)and from what I saw still very clean. The staff from the hostess, the waiters and on duty manager were all pleasant. I will say after 12 noon they do get very busy. Mainly because of the lunch rush. The food is absolutely delicious. I'm not sure why others said the food was bland because what my partner and I ordered was all very tasty. So far we've had the steak fajita, the honey chipotle chicken, the chicken tamales and a few made well alcoholic beverages. Definitely an A+ in our book. We will for surely come back! read more

This was my third time to dine here at Uncle Julio's. I like the ambiance and service. However, the food is just "okay". My first issue is with the watery dip they serve with the complimentary chips. (you have to pay for the good stuff) This, within itself is not that much of an issue, but on each occasion that I have eaten here, the main dish that I have ordered was pretty bland. I am not really that much of a picky eater when going out, but I would like a little flavor in my food. This place will do for a social outing, but if is really delicious food that you are seeking; go elsewhere. read more

This rating is for a combination of food and service. TLDR - food was above average and service was...lacking. We arrived on a Tuesday evening around 845. Ordered the fajitas for 2 which was recommended by the waitress. She stressed that their value proposition is that everything is made FRESH. That's why it was curious when our fajitas arrived...silent with no sizzle. Also the tortillas weren't even lukewarm. We asked our server to warm the tortillas and meat portion. She hurriedly explained that would be difficult since everything was made fresh. Translation...everything was so fresh it was close to cold. #sideeye. She took away the tortillas and meat and returned after several minutes with warmed meat...and no tortillas, which she said were being made - you guessed it - FRESH. So the meat cooled significantly while we waited for the tortillas to arrive. Seems like if the complaint was for cold food, you might try to get them back out to the table, warm and together. I dunno.... Once tortillas finally arrived, waitress asked if everything was ok. To which I responded that the meat was getting cold again. Her response was to walk away. We've stopped in here three times now. Overall, I feel like I've been disappointed with my experiences each time for various reasons. 1. The restaurant is always *packed* and the waiters are crazy busy - so things tend to get lost in the shuffle. We ordered a drink and queso our first visit... the queso never came. The drink came at the end of the meal. No real apology was offered. 2. The hostesses the second visit were very unfriendly - literally asked my name and then shoved a buzzer into my hand without looking up from her computer at our second visit. 3. Our third visit, a few weeks ago, our service was improved but the food left a lot to be desired. The beef tacos I ordered were not worth eating, and the chips were stale. The spicy margarita was - as always - good, but overall it was not worth the price of the plate. Despite being close by and convenient, I think in the future we will be frequenting some of our old favorite Mexican restaurants in the area instead. We attended the soft opening tonight at Uncle Julio's and we had the best time! Our server was Josue and he did a wonderful job, extremely attentive and knowledgeable of the food. We had an allergy issue and the kitchen took care of it, no questions asked. The portion sizes were perfect, the guys in our party were totally stuffed. Although, we did make room for the churro piñata!! We had the tamales and ceviche, multiple types of fajitas and a shrimp w/pineapple mango salsa on a bed of zucchini noodles. Delicious! Reservation is definitely recommended at this place. Since we didn't have a reservation, we tried getting there early, around 4pm, to avoid the dinner crowd but it still required us to wait so we chose to sit at the patio with no wait time instead. It could get a bit too warm sitting outside during the summer though. CLEANLINESS: This is MAIN reason why I gave it two stars. While I was in the restroom I witnessed one of their servers coming out from the toilet stall without washing his hands! I've been to this location twice. Once on opening day and again this past Sunday. Both times the service was below par. I can completely forgive opening day but Sunday was pretty bad. We got there around 2pm. Our party of 5 sat at a high top in the bar because we were told they couldn't accommodate a party larger than 4 due to reservations and current wait list. We were fine with the bar.... ....Until we realized that the service pretty much sucked in the bar. Our server took our drink order and then disappeared for at least 10 minutes. When she finally came back, she had no drinks and wanted to take our order. So we ordered and then we got our drinks minus a raspberry ice tea. It took 20 minutes for my friend to get her iced tea and we had to remind our server two times for it. We waited 20 minutes for a guacamole and queso combo appetizer and again had to remind our server about it. My friend ordered regular chicken fajitas but got the honey chicken fajitas. She never refilled the drinks unless we asked. We had to ask for more chips and salsa. All of the menus when they were laid down were wet as was the table. Visited this establishment yesterday for lunch. The lunch prices cannot be beat. The drinks looked great. UnfortunatelyI was there during work hours so I was unable to give them a try. Staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. The food came out quickly, but not so quickly that it concerned me. If you are not a pork eater, please keep in mind that the pinto beans have pork, the black beans do not. Their guacamole was fantastic and gets prepared right at the side of your table so that you can customize your taste (if you download the app you get a free table side guacamole you're welcome). I sent it back for lunch portion quesadillas which was the exact same portion size as my child's quesadilla. Whomever decided on the portion sizes needs to reconsider or adjust the prices. This is not a "Fine" Mexican restaurant where portion sizes are smaller and prices aren't. This location of Uncle Julio's literally just opened yesterday so of course the wait and parking were ridiculous. The wait was supposed to be an hour but we waited longer than that. After the hour was up, I had to follow up with the hostess to see how many people before we were seated. She kindly explained everything to me with a smile and apologized for the wait. When we were finally seated, my friends and I ordered a round of margaritas and all of us went for the Cozumel Shrimp Tacos. I had the fresh fruit margarita of the day which happened to be watermelon. Everything was delicious. The only thing I didn't care for were the sopapillas. They weren't horrible but I just felt like something was missing. I've got my eye on that chocolate piñata. Nevertheless, we received service with a smile. This was by far not a good meal. My daughter has gluten allergies and we were assured they could accommodate. I attended the Soft Opening on Saturday night. The place was full, so I was a little nervous sitting down. You never know what you're going to get with a soft opening - understandably. However, to our surprise, they did amazing! The service was above and beyond what we expected on only their second night. The kitchen was fast and the food was delicious! I was here with 3 other friends and we each had a few drinks - the bar tenders were really fast and made great drinks. They weren't the same watered down frozen drinks most restaurant chains offer. These had great flavor and had a good punch, but not too strong. They had unique twists on some classics, and a few of their own. I highly suggest the swirl! Everything we had, from the table side guacamole to the shrimp, chicken and steak fajitas was amazing! The only thing I wished was different was that their tortilla chips were strong to hold up to the guac and queso we ordered, but other than that, everything was fantastic! This is definitely somewhere I'd come to grab a great happy hour drink outside by their fire pit or date night dinner before a movie! Y'all, this place is AMAZING. I've been there 3 times and it's been consistently good with each visit. The waiters are so nice and attentive and the food is always fresh. Now I will say that the salsa is INCREDIBLY fresh and is actually warm, which is something I'm not too keen on. But if you wait like 10 minutes it eventually cools down and all will be right with the world. Now, the prices are a little more expensive, but you are definitely getting your money's worth. I've gotten the chicken fajitas. And when I got them the first time I was kind of surprised at the fact there weren't as many pieces of chicken as there are in other restaurants. But oh my god the pieces are HUGE. And I've only managed to eat two tacos and there's chicken still left. All in all if you want a+ mexican food and a+ service, this is the place to go! read more

Great time at this fine Tex mex establishment. We took one of our children here mainly for the chocolate pinata's. Most of us had a fajita concoction that they specialize in.
