My favorite bowl of soup - Singapore Laksa Mee The Buena Park location of Uncle Fung Borneo Eatery closed many years ago. It was the closest & most convenient location for me to visit. Since that time, I haven't had a delicious bowl of Singapore Laksa Mee. Being under the weather for several weeks, I thought it worth the gas money to visit the Uncle Fung in Long Beach for some Asian soup for the soul. Singapore Laksa Mee- Spiced coconut curry broth w/ shrimp paste, fried tofu, fish cake, shrimp, soy sauce egg, sweet corn, bean sprouts, shallots & green onion. If that isn't tempting enough, customers have a choice of bihon (rice noodles), flat noodles or housemade noodles. I keep telling myself to try the soup with bihon or flat noodles, but I always end up sticking with the housemade noodles. If it's housemade, how can you not? Just as good as memory recalls, the Singapore Laksa Mee was rich, soothing, and a pleasure to eat. You'd think I'd miss thick cuts of pork chashu, as with Japanese ramen, but I don't, at all. I relished each spoonful of soup, not leaving a drop inside my bowl. Service was great. The staff were friendly & hospitable. A good amounting of seating inside, the restaurant is on the quaint side, with a few al fresco tables for dining outside. Uncle Fung Borneo Eatery is located inside the Target shopping center, between HiroNori Craft Ramen & The Melt. I will make it my mission to be a frequent customer of Uncle Fung Borneo Eatery in Long Beach. I don't want this location to suffer the same fate as the Buena Park location, as I would have to drive to Alhambra to visit their sister restaurant, Borneo Kalimantan, to get my Singapore Laksa Mee fix. I've been to their Alhambra location once but happened to be in Long Beach so decided to check out this eatery. Got the prata, char kweh teow and Indo mie. We ordered the large prata which came with 2 pieces of prata and a side of curry. The small sized appetizer comes with only 1 piece of prata. The prata itself was good - very buttery and paired perfect with the side of curry (which tasted very authentic). I enjoyed my char kueh teow which had a ton of wok hey, not too oily and had decent portions. The indomie however, was a little disappointing. It was made with home made noodles and unfortunately there wasnt enough sauce/ flavor. I'd probably skip this next time. Service is decent. Everything we ordered was delicious! The roti was so light and yummy with the curry dipping sauce. The Borneo plate was like a great comfort meal. Off the special menu, the radang was very yummy and more hearty than the Borneo plate. The Laksa noodle soup was full of substance with a rich, creamy broth. One of my favorite Indonesian spots in Long Beach! I actually used to go to their other location before it closed, so I was really happy to find this one. My go-to orders are either the Cornish hen with curry rice or the chicken satay skewers. If you get the Cornish hen, I definitely recommend the curry rice, and with the chicken satay, try the coconut rice -- it's so good. The flavors are rich, savory, and honestly hard to describe until you try them. The portions are pretty generous for the price, and the service has always been friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself has a cozy, casual atmosphere with plenty of seating, and parking was easy when I went. It's also conveniently located right by the university. Oh this place is great. I truly enjoyed it. Arrived on a Tuesday at 11am. Service was quick and food came out fast. Very good portions also. I got the hokkien Mie which really hit the spot. Price was $13.99 for lots of meat, and lots of egg noodles. Soup was very flavorful! The meat was a bit tough in some areas but can't complain much for $13.99 I'm used to eating in Westminster so this was a nice change. Parking gets pretty tough due to the nearby college. It was more café style, I wasn't sure if we were supposed to order at the counter or if they were going to take our order. Service wasn't the greatest, and that's the only reason why I docked a star. This has been one of my go-to spots in Long Beach, and often frequented during my CSULB days. I still come back for their Singapore Laksa with egg noodles, and Chicken Satay Plate with curry rice. The creamy laksa sauce is so good and warms your soul. The laksa comes with boiled eggs, tofu, shrimp, and fried garlic. A small roti prata comes with 1 roti, if you get large it comes with 2. Their mie goreng is also a yummy dish to try if you like chow mein. The peanut sauce on the satay is a must get! I wish they served more so I can dip the skewer into it. I think it might be a little difficult for me judge b/c I've been spoiled with Borneo Kalimantan and Ipoh Kopitam in Alhambra. Because I brought my dog to Long Beach, I didn't get to eat inside. I've tasted better at other locations so this was subpar in comparison. What helped with the rating is the laksa and their service. Location wise, good amout of parking and seating available as well. First time trying "Borneo" food. I've had Singaporean cuisine before and I think this is or at least would be the closest thing to it. I had the goering noodles and the bread appetizer. The food was better than expected. The noodles had a nice chewy texture. Not too chewy and the mix of meats and vegetables complimented the dish perfectly. The appetizer was hot doey and flaky and went well with the curry base sauce. In fact like the noodles, I have a feeling there was a bit of curry in most of the dishes. So if you like curry, especially yellow curry, I think this would be a good choice. Price was great, very casual and a couple steps up from fast food without breaking your wallet. This is a really solid place for some good food! I love that they offer some unique options that I don't really see often. I highly recommend their laksa noodles if you like something with a little bit of kick, but not too overwhelming. But for me, my absolute favorite is there chicken sauté entrée that comes with rice. The chicken is perfectly cooked on that skewer and that sauce is like no other! Even my four-year-old daughter couldn't get enough of it! The sauce is a bit salty and so pairing that with the rice is perfection and balances the entire flavor of the dish. I took my mom there too, and she loved it as well. I'm excited to come back again. I ordered the Singapore Laksa and when asked for extra spicy, the staff old me to use the sambal on the table, which unfortunately was not that spicy and thinner consistency. Delicious southeast Asian food! We tried several entrees including the Borneo rice plate, the laksa noodles, and the Cornish hen. Good variety of Singaporean, Indonesian, and Malaysian dishes, very fragrant! While they're not spicy to me and not advertised by the servers as spicy, someone sensitive may notice the slight heat. The Borneo plate was great with the combo of egg, chicken, Chinese sausage, and char siu pork made a great melange of tastes. The laksa noodles were also flavorful with some shrimp, fish cake, and seasoned egg all in a hearty curry broth. Their menu had a lot of interesting options, so it took me a while to decide. I ended up getting the Singapore Laksa with egg noodle.
