This is my go to comfort food spot near UCR! I love the variety of breads that they offer and because its so close to school I usually come here for the veggie pork steam buns as a quick meal. I love supporting this bakery however, I feel like their quality isn't always consistent. I came in for my usual veggie pork buns and was in a rush so I grabbed some buns labeled as veggie pork buns and didn't realized it had been mislabeled because the buns had red dots on them meaning they were veggie pork buns. Additionally, my friend got me one of their red bean buns for my birthday and it was almost all bread with only one little spoonful of red bean paste which lacked a lot of flavor. One on the other hand I have tried one of their more decadent cakes and it was amazing! It was a chocolate strawberry cake. The chocolate covered strawberries were super fresh and the frosting was light and fluffy. I also really like their green onion pork sung breads. Some of these breads are a hit or miss but they are great to snack on at home or on campus. Their Asian cakes are lightly sweetened and fluffy and their designs are simple. My favorite item that was their shelves were the onion pancake wrap with pork sung, egg and green onions! That item needs to make a comeback asap! That was delicious for breakfast for lunch. I miss it. Their breads and individual dessert items are just ok for me. This place is such a gem! I got my mom a cake from here for her birthday and she is a baker herself so she has a tendency to over analyze cakes. However, she loved the cake I bought for her from here! I believe it was a milk and berries type of cake. The sponge was unbelievably soft and the whipped topping had the perfect amount of sweetness. The other baked goods in the bakery are also highly notable! I'm pretty sure anything you'd try in here would be delicious. I appreciated the free drink that comes with a $10 purchase. I ordered one large strawberry vanilla cake but the day of, they told me they never received my order but they would be able to accommodate me with two cakes and I was able to select the two below flavors. I appreciate the service. When I arrived, it's located in a lot that may require payment, but I believe others have said they validate parking, I just ran in while my brother was in the car waiting somewhere else. The store's ambiance is neat but is also extremely small. This location will not write happy birthday on cakes but will provide a golden happy birthday topper. I bought all other decorations and candles. Both cakes were just okay, in terms of taste, including texture and actually flavor, not just sweetness levels. The bad: the cake fell due to a faulty handle. I carried the cake from the bakery to my car. When I got home I was about to reach the entrance of the house with the cake when suddenly the handle tore. This cake is for a birthday. **I called and explained the situation but was told "there is nothing we can do."** Unfortunately, I had to go out and buy a cake from another place. Another wonderful day at Uncle Chuang's! I come here pretty often and really enjoy this place. The prices are good and the food is always delicious. Today I my favorites were the: -Salmon sandwich: nice sized piece of salmon with cabbage, crab, and tomato. Very refreshing and good. The cabbage adds a very nice crunch $5.50 -spam musubi: this is one of my favorites. Rice, pork sung, and spam with a piece of seaweed around the middle. It's very tasty and filling $2:25 -triangle sandwich: these are another one of my favorites. 4 slices of bread with different layers of food between. I believe it's 1 layer of pork sung and cucumber, 1 layer of ham cheese and Mayo, and 1 layer of egg. The bread is always light and fluffy and the way the flavors combine is really good $2.25 any time you spend 10$ or more you get a free sweet green tea and a stamp on a stamp card! Don't forget ! Also the staff was especially nice today. I'm so sad I didn't get their names but it was 2 girls on the morning/early afternoon of June 30, 2021. They really made the experience perfect! read more

One of the few places in Riverside to get delicious Chinese pastries! Most items are around $2-$3 and they have a good variety of buns, pastries, bread, cakes, and more! Some of my favorite things to get are the Egg Pudding Cups, Creme Brulee, Creme Puffs, and Pork Sung Buns! Their pastries are definitely are better if you get them by lunch time. Unlike other Chinese bakeries, I don't think they are constantly making bread... so the earlier you come, the more fresh the bread will be. They also only make limited egg tarts each week, so they were sold out when we came on a Sunday. During COVID, they only allow a limited capacity inside. Wow...I am so happy to visit here for the first time last June 21, 2023 to get a cake for my daughter's 5th birthday. I got the strawberry vanilla cake (hello kitty is not included when you purchase from them. I just put it as a design because it is my daughter's favorite character) the cake tastes so good. The taste is just so right, not sweet, not dry, and the strawberry tastes good. Also, we tried some of their breads and we love it. I found my favorite Pork Sung Bun here too which I usually can just get whenever we visit Asia. I am happy to know I can buy it here and they even make it more yummier than some other bakeries in Asia. After my first visit I went back today (June 23,2023) to try their tiramisu cake because it is my favorite cake and I am really happy that i tried theirs, as it tastes so good and light. Slightly overrated place. I thought it was like 85degrees. i thought the place was convenient and their mice pastries were darling. It's a different story when you bite into them. The Matcha cheesecake was overpowering and artificial, the blueberry jam in the blueberry cheesecake tasted artificial, and the totoro pastry - which looks like a fat mouse (not body shaming here, im just inarticulate! lol) had a waxy chocolate covering and artificial flavored blueberry jam inside. The store seemed clean and servers were nice. I paid with cash and they didnt mind. Sharetea next door only allows cashless transactions. read more

Got a coupon to come here in the mail so I came back and visited and found a new item to rave about! I'm the freezer section they have a bunch of sticky rice with eel for just $4! Which is an incredible price and I've been stocking up and eating that on my call days! Just pop it in the microwave for 3 min and it tastes like the sticky rice my grandma used to make for me in Taiwan! Delicious bread and cakes!! I've gotten 2 cakes from this place and they were so yummy and beautiful. If ordering a cake, I recommend the tiramisu cake! The cake itself is so fluffy and the tiramisu inside the cake is noticeable but not overwhelming. I haven't gotten a chance to try all the different kinds of breads and pastries here yet but everything I've tried so far is yummy. The breads are always soft! One of my favorite bread here is the taro bun. I highly recommend it. The cashiers here are always kind. Good service! Highly recommend coming here for a snack! I like that they do not close early too so I can come here for a late night snack. UPDATE: It's been a little over a year since I've discovered this gem! Hands down, this is the best spot to try some fresh, inexpensive delicious buns and pastries! The inside of the shop is always clean and tidy, and the bakery treats are always sealed in a plastic bag to keep it fresh. I believe all the bakery treats expire within a day so you can always double check the nutrition label on the back of the bag. There's also some cakes, cheese cakes, dumplings & other small treats located in the fridge and at the front of the register. Some of my favorites to try is the Chicken Curry Bun, Matcha Cake, Red Bean Bun, Fruit Tart, & the Dumplings. Almost each item is roughly under $2 or $3 bucks. Sometimes if you buy a certain amount of items, you can get a free drink. Also, as a tip, depending on which bakery item you buy, try to reheat or toast it for a better crisp, warm taste! Coming from SGV area the cakes I had were yummy, moist, and inexpensive. It is hard to find good Asian bakeries in Riverside and I happen to pick this place to purchase a cake for my boyfriend coworker birthday. The bakeries selection for their cake is limited so one con there.. You can't alter or change your preferences when it comes to the cake. I order online through their website yesterday and set to pick it up today at noon. The cake must be order one day in advance before 8pm. I pre order the mixed berries cake 10 inch at $46 dollars. Today before arriving, I call in to ask if I can pick up the cake earlier at 11:30am instead of 12:00pm. The worker said it is completely fine. I asked if she can also write happy birthday on the cake and she said no. I asked why and she said it is because of covid restriction. This whole scenario does not make sense. I paid $46 dollars and I can't even have a happy birthday written on the cake. Other bakeries I went to like 85 Bakery includes candles and happy birthday for free of charge since it is paid together. I'm just beyond shocked since I paid a lot of money for this cake. You get what I'm feeling ? It is not even worth the price considering my wants is not met at this bakery. The aftermath gets worst. I arrive and came to pick up the cake. I also decide to get fruit tarts and as you can see in my picture they put my tarts into a wax bag. A wax bag come on? By the time I came home my fruit tart got clump up and it is not a pleasant feeling. The fruits and cream came out of the tact. When it comes to fruit tarts and cake in other bakeries I always get a small box to hold the pastries in place like in 85 degree bakeries. Another thing is the happy birthday writing is not included with the cake instead the worker gave me a topper. The birthday candles is not included as well. That's just too much from this bakery and I have to pay additional $2 for 4 candles and plates with forks when I only need one candle. I decide to pay for it because I don't want to go dollar tree and spent another 10 minutes to buy a candle when I'm in a rush to deliver the cake by 1pm. This bakery is so cheap about everything from not including happy birthday writing, candles, and using wax paper for pastries. I might as well spend my money on another bakeries that get my needs and wants meet. Now for the cake test, my boyfriend coworker and all his friends say the cake is 6 out of 10. Words from his coworkers is cake is yummy and not too sweet but decent enough to get fulfilled your cake needs. My boyfriend and his coworker still prefers 85 degree bakery since the cake is top quality and not too expensive. They also write the happy birthday writings and candles include. Fruit tart is okay, the fruits taste sour as it is not seasonal cost at $2.50 per tart. My taste buds is ruined as the wax paper bag clumped all my fruits tarts into a massive ball. I wouldn't recommend it to get it at their bakery. I still prefer my Tanbii bakery back in Rosemead, their cake hits home for me. Every time I get their cake and the worker are always willing to accommodate if I want a certain size, shape, and filling. This bakery will be my last visit as I will spend my money on 85 degree bakery and Tanbii bakery. I won't come here again as my visits and their cheapness of packaging their pastries is horrible. I stopped working in Riverside, so I hadn't been to Uncle Chuang's in a year, even though the pandan rolls and savory breads are never far my my thoughts. Today, my HR training happened to be right down the road so during our lunch break I scooted on by and picked up my favorite burrito (pandan cake roll). They're actually bigger than I remembered! Same price, $6.00 cash, no tax, all taste. I also nabbed a hotdog and egg bread. Nothing from Uncle Chuang's has ever disappointed! I only wish they made the cute breads (Turtle cakes and Totoro rolls etc.) in something unfruity, but that's just my own preference. Anyway, the pandan roll was a hit, if I do say so myself. If you spend over $7, you can get free green tea. It's very sweet but not overly-so. I highly recommend it. There's cute Totoro and turtle buns which are definitely Instagrammable. I got $12 worth of buns to last me a few days, and really liked the bbq pork one, red bean one, and matcha green tea cheesecake. There's something for everyone. They have many types of breads sweet & regular breads, and different sweet treats & the prices are very reasonable.
