Uncle Chuang's is a Taiwanese bakery that's been open since 2013. Their second location opened in Pomona in 2019. I first visited the Riverside location in 2017 and it was great. I came recently and bought a few treats. The employees were friendly and I received a complimentary iced green tea for my purchase. Everything was fresh, soft, delicious, and not overly sweet. Each item was a crowd pleaser!

First time here, previous experience was at their Pomona location. They appeared to have improved their recipes because the breads here taste much better than Pomona which were dry and undesirable. We spent over $12 and thought we'd qualify for the free drink as advertised. Your choices are iced or hot tea (tea bag + hot water), which isn't that enticing. However, it was a hot day, an iced tea would have been nice. When we walked in there were 2 customers ahead of us. The first one declined the free drink since she already had one. The second customer wanted the promo drink. By the time we paid the cashier said they just ran out of ice tea and didn't offer a substitute. After I asked for the alternative she said hot tea. It was almost 100 degrees as it often is in Riverside. WHY would you run out of ice tea and think hot tea is a good idea? Nonetheless, I had to ask for it as she made no effort (didn't even ask) to give us a drink. Next time we will just buy a couple items or none at all. It's off-putting when merchants don't honor promos or appear insincere; it's a matter of principle, otherwise don't offer the promo. Taste wise the almond puff pastry was surprisingly good. Very fluffy and not overly sweet. We also bought red bean loaf, taro bun, and coconut raisin. All of their breads are made with butter so definitely NOT vegan, but the ingredients are labeled so it's easy to tell if it's vegetarian.

A cute little shop for some Asian pastries, breads, cakes, tea, coffee, ice cream, cookies and savory parcels. Located in the university village shopping center right next to 7-eleven. Rewards cards available for the frequent visitor. The moon cookie is so flaky and filled with a sweet white bean. Overall their sweets are subtle not overly sweet. There's also a refrigerator section with various desserts including their Japanese cheesecake. Light and airy. We've been coming here for years always receiving Fresh pastries & friendly service! We always leave as satisfied customers.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! Our first time ever, but definitely not our last...We got a small strawberry and peach cake for my birthday and it was everything I hoped it would be, light, fluffy, and not too sugary...it was perfect!

I love this freaking bakery, it's so cute and small. Lots of variety of Asian pastries! Not too sweet. They're all so cute dude. I wished the tarts were more flavorful though. They kinda taste like nothing.

Uncle Chuang's has been one of my favorite bakeries for years now. Staff is friendly. The inside is clean and well-organized. It's a grab-and-go type situation, so there isn't any seating. There are trays at the entrance, so you just take one, pile on your selections, and take them to the counter to check out. No restroom. Parking is easy since they are located in the University Village shopping plaza. It is a ticketed lot, but you can get a few hours free with validation. It can feel crowded when they're busy because it's a small shop, but the noise level stays relatively mild. They have a good variety of refrigerated and non-refrigerated options, as well as both sweet and savory items. There are some limited drink options as well. The cold sandwiches and pork sung spam musubi are so good! Get there early if you want to try them because they do sell out frequently. I also highly recommend the fruit sponge cakes and honey cakes. Prices are fair. 10/10 recommend.

The frozen strawberry wafer sandwich was delicious, we really enjoyed it. The taro cake was a neat experience it had different flavors but not over whelming and not sweet at all. The hotdog pizza bun was tasty too. The Almond puff pastry is layered inside crunchy and delicious my favorite with coffee. And the tea was perfect with a hint of lavender taste to me. The only reason why I gave it a 4 star was because they didn't offer me the free drink promotion they had and it was my first time there so I was being nosy looking at everything and saw a small sign and asked about the free drink because I qualified based on my purchase. Had I not asked I would have missed out on delicious iced tea.

This small bakery sits in University Village, near UC Riverside's campus. It's an amazing spot for grab and go pastries! The prices are very fair too (averaging $2-4). The store itself isn't very big, but they offer a wide variety of both sweet and savory options. Parking is really easy, there's plenty of spots. While it is a ticketed lot, they offer 90 minutes for free. It's never been busy in the times I've gone (usually before noon), and the servers are pretty nice. I wish they offered more drinks, but they do have basic coffee and a couple other canned beverages.

sriracha, pineapple turtle bun, chocolate croissant

This is a nice bakery near UCR, with an awesome founding story! I enjoy Asian bakeries like 85 degrees, so I wanted to check this out and I wasn't disappointed :) The items are unique and well priced. - I first tried their pineapple turtle bun, which admittedly wasn't really my thing- it did feel a little dry and the filling didn't seem to go with the bread, but it was also my first time trying a pineapple bun in general. However, I appreciated that they were selling sriracha so I bought a bottle! - The next time I went, I bought Pocky because of their buy one get one free deal! Compared to the overpriced Pocky at UCR's market, this was nice. I also bought a honey matcha cake that was honestly heavenly. The texture was perfectly soft and spongy even when I opened it the next day. The matcha flavor was subtle but present, and it wasn't too sweet, which usually isn't my thing, but I actually liked it! I'll definitely be visiting this place frequently! Service: The staff are kind and helpful. Ambiance: There is no seating inside, it is a small bakery, but that doesn't detract from buying things here. It is a quaint and well kept shop, with items nicely displayed and clearly labeled!

Valentine heart chocolate dipped cookies, blueberry puff pastry
    Shirley B.

Food: Asian bakery closest to where I live, which is loma linda area, good choices overall, got cookies and pastries to share with friends. Matcha cheesecake was exceptionally good and not too sweet (which is the highest compliment an Asian person can give lol). Got the free iced tea (offered to those who spend more than $12), but it had way too much sweetener inside, and seemed like it's been sitting out for a long time Price: about $2-4 ish for each piece, good value Ambiance: small interior, no place to sit down, grab and go kind of place Service: nice friendly, no issues here Parking: ample huge parking lot, you do have to grab a ticket to park, but first 90 minutes is free, no need for validation

Left to right Chocolate danish, blue berry muffin, and sponge cake

All the pastries look delicious, there was a good variety. Everything was very affordable as well. I got the sponge cake, chocolate sponge cake, blueberry muffin, and a chocolate danish and everything was perfectly baked and tasted very good. The person who helped me was very kind and the inside is very clean.

Uncle Fluffy has been on my list for like a gajillion years not even joking. my mother is a cheesecake fanatic.... and also an almond mom. so japanese cheesecake is that woman's dream: lighter, less dense, and less sweet than american cheesecakes (the higher protein content from fluffed egg whites also means u could make ur fellow gymbro into "making up" the calories too) the regular cheesecake was yum and the texture was divine: basically if you imagined a fluffy soufflé pancake and cheesecake had a baby. it didn't wow me though, especially since i love things on the sweeter side and it definitely wasn't. for a tiny $11 dessert, it didn't taste like i was indulging in a dirty little sweet treat. so i'll stick w my dense caloric diabetic cheesecakes from the freezer isle at vons. BUT TO EACH THEIR OWN! my mom ATE THAT UNC UPPPPP. she ADORED the cheesecake. also service was quick and sweet. uncle fluffy def has daddy potential xoxo ;P

Honestly, the line is mainly due to the customers taking their sweet time while ordering. You might have a hard time finding a table to sit at inside, but they also have outside seating. Price-wise you'll probably spend around $15-$20 per person. I highly recommend their grilled chicken sandwhich. It comes with grilled chicken, lettuce and tomato, all on a toasted sourdough bread covered with pesto and cheese. For the side I typically get the Italian pasta salad, which is always delicious. One thing about this sandwhich is that the chicken will never cover the entire bread and it will never be distributed evenly. So you will always have one half that has less chicken and ends up being part veggie pesto sandwhich, which is still worth it. The other favorite is a turkey club sandwhich on a croissant. It's basic, but also very tasty. They also carry a variety of pastries and serve Klatch coffee (brewed coffee) if you need a sweet treat afterward.

It was decent, I think the baked good was much better though and I'd probably come back to try more pastries and baked goods in the future personally. This is a casual place so you order at the front of the restaurant and then pay in the back. Prices are very reasonable all around across the menu. Plenty of tables but can get busy! Worth checking out if you're in the downtown area.
