Love, love, love Umi! Food is consistently delish and they are very welcoming!!! Umi is my go to sushi restaurant

Only been here twice in the span of a year or two. Everything was good. Seems they have consistency.

Haven't been here in a while and was craving tempura. Got there on time because 30 mins after it started getting busy for a weeknight. Staff is nice and greet you when you walk in. Restaurant is spacey but dark. Had the Salmon Bento, which had so khans items that were really good. Nice piece of salmon and asked for light on the teriyaki sauce. California roll was great, as were the salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. Steamed veggies were okay. Tempura (shrimp & veggie) was light, crispy and delicious! Egg roll was good but filling. Small portion of rice but you really don't need it. Bento box was nice and provided great portions and variety of food for $20z. read more

We were craving sushi and found this spot nearby, came a bit late on a Saturday night about an hour before they closed and were very pleased with the dimly lit cozy vibes and excellent service. We split a Chicken Bento Box - so impressive with a ton of food for two - great flavored chicken, fresh veggies, tempura shrimp and veggies, rice, an egg roll, miso soup, ginger salad, and a cali roll - goodness, it was all so good! And, we ordered a Big Bang roll and it was divine - I will def get it again!! All in all, a fabulous 5 star experience! read more

Great first time dining experience for my wife and I this evening. Service was friendly, fast and inviting. Food was spot on.. California roll was fresh and delicious. The egg rolls were crispy with a delicious side of red chili sauce. Overall everything we tasted was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Great spot for a date night. Will be back. read more

I'd say that I found this restaurant by accident. I went to a sushi place by my work in Nashville but they were closed without notice. I really wanted sushi after a long day at work. I searched for sushi places nearby but they were like 5-8 miles away. Most of them were in downtown Nashville. I decided to go home. Then, I thought about Whit's frozen custard. I pulled into the parking lot hoping that there'd be a sushi restaurant in this area and yes! I found Umi! How did I miss this sushi spot for years? I normally just get Whit's and then, drive away. Nigiri was spot-on! Scallops, Amaebi, and Ikura were so fresh and tasty. Sushi rolls were fine. I found that eel sauce on Spider roll was really salty and overpowering everything though. My wife and I often go to Umi. One of the better Asian/sushi restaurants around. Staff is very kind. Food is always good!

This is my local Japanese restaurant. The food is fresh and the flavors are distinct. They have a good selection of non-sushi dishes for those that want something less adventurous. I appreciate that they are aware and capable to address food allergies. Highly recommend the rainbow roll for a good variety of fish. read more

We went with a group of 8 on a Friday night... we waited about 45 minutes to be seated which is expected with a group on a weekend. The food was yummy... service was good... overall good experience!! Will be back! read more

Good sized space, feels even larger as they appear to have taken away a row of banquet seating due to staffing shortages. Sadly no sushi bar seating allowed, also due to staff issues. Overall a clean, simple and attractive space. Nice amount of room between tables. No draft beer but they do have the appropriate Japanese bottled beers. Gyoza came out hot and quite tasty. Nigiri and rolls were fine, it's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's good, and I'd certainly come back for more. Lots of diners enjoying the non-sushi options, so the menu looks worth exploring. read more

I could say this! This is the only place in Columbia that actually knows what good food is like as far as southeast flavors. We keep going back for more, when we are busy working long hours. My family and I really love going to Umi! Our daughters don't eat sushi, so they get tempura and love it! The sushi is super good!

Great service and thier lunch specials are amazing!!! I recommend the Bento box tempura!!

This place is amazing! What made it even better was our server, Kimberlee. She was so pleasant, efficient, and personable! She made our whole night! Kudos to her, she is such a wonderful asset to this delightful little gem. PS you must try to avocado bomb and the dragon roll. read more

Came in at lunch to buy a gift card for my mother. They were not busy and seemed to be at 30% capacity. A woman from the very back of the restaurant said something at a very low volume and I couldn't hear her so she went in the back. I waited for her to come back out but she never did. I went across the street to buy a gift card at Tito's and they were so kind and took care of me right away and they were super busy. When I went back over to Umi, the same woman said something from the very back of the restaurant again. She never walked up front to greet me or anything. I explained to her that I couldn't hear what she was saying and she repeated herself a tiny bit louder and asked how many. I told her I wanted to buy a gift card and she seemed irritated. So I went to the back and explained to her that it was hard to hear her what she was saying all the way up front. I guess in a way I was gently suggesting that she walk up there and speak to guest when they walk in. She seemed annoyed even though I said it politely. She told me they don't have a hostess at lunchtime. I completely understand that but customer service is key in the industry and greeting a customer should be the bare minimum when you have someone new walk in your door. I even apologized to her for irritating her although I'm not sure what I did to irritate her. I don't even want to give this gift card to my mother. This was a terrible first experience with this restaurant but in all fairness I did not eat the food. So keep that in mind when considering my one star review. Umi lives up to it's name and ranking. We've eaten a lot of sushi all over the world. This place is not only 5 stars, it's reasonable and has a nice broad selection. The sashimi are large cuts and the freshness, temperature and overall flavor are second to none. Franklin you are blessed to be spoiled by the presence of Umi. Would highly recommend. This is a very nice place. The teriyaki chicken was delicious and the service was great! I will say no lunch prices on Saturday, so we will not be able to come again on a weekend. Cost was a factor: $13.50 for teriyaki chicken w/rice & vegetables, salad, miso soup and $15.50 for beef w/rice & vegetables, salad, and miso soup) sweet tea is $2.25 each. Positives: You can sit in a booth or at a table with just your party. The chicken was great! The service was great! Lunch prices are MUCH more palatable. I'd love to see lunch prices offered on Saturdays! read more

I absolutely LOVE Umi. Every time I walk in we're seated immediately and greeted by the staff in such a friendly way (more on them later). The environment is pretty casual and always feels pretty laid back and relaxing to me. I come during lunch pretty often and it's never chaotic. The staff is always very quick to check in with us and take our orders. They're also very accommodating of splitting bills and always ask us if they need to do it and never act like its a burden. The food is consistent every time, and I think takes the amount of time that fresh sushi generally takes. It's never hard to be in and out during the length of a lunch break. Speaking of lunch, their lunch bento boxes are GREAT value and so delicious. My favorite things to order is the fried rice (this isn't just ANY fried rice) and their calamari roll. I'm never disappointed that I chose to come here and I love that it's somewhere I get to enjoy regularly. read more

I don't know if maybe they have changed things but from their website and yelp page I was expecting hibachi, but that isn't the case. GREAT miso soup. My husband loved his sushi! He said he wished he had gotten the chicken or steak fried rice instead of the shrimp. I got the chicken udon noodles and they were decent. Our server was literally so sweet and just reminded me of sunshine! She wasn't the annoying, over the top bubbly, but she was just happy and made us smile every time she came to our table. The hubby wanted sushi for dinner so I hopped on yelp and came across this gem. Umi was amazing! We got there about an hour before closing, but our food and service were both superior. The playboy roll- party in your mouth! Soooo good! We also enjoyed the fried shrimp and spider rolls along with a chicken skewer appetizer. Umi is absolutely my favorite sushi experience in franklin. Good food, reasonably priced. It's in berry farms which is so cute. I did expect the inside to be "nicer" or more updated! The interior looks like an old shopping plaza while the rest of berry farms retail locations/restaurant are much more "modern" With that said, the food/fish is fresh. The service was excellent. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. The playboy roll was delicious and so was the avocado roll. I'll be back for sure! read more

This spot was really good. I called in the order and they said 30 minutes. It was ready when I arrived as promised. I ordered the TJ roll. The sushi was tasty and plentiful. I also had the tempura shrimp. I enjoyed both and recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good sushi. read more

One of our "go-to" restaurants! Favorite rolls are: Jay's Roll, Janes Roll, and Ninja Roll. If you are watching your rice intake the Sunomomo is good too. Double check their hours before you go, as we've found them closed in the past. read more
