This place is definitely a splurge, but the food is delicious. You're paying a bit more for the ambiance and location, but it's worth it for a special outing. The cocktails were a highlight, and the fried chicken did not disappoint. The complimentary seaweed chips were a nice touch. Staff is also incredibly helpful guiding you through the menu. Just be prepared to spend a bit more, as portions lean toward tapas-style.

First of all the ambience is such a vibe it's dimly lit. The sushi chef is right next to the Dj and there's final behind the Dj the art and the decor is so fire. Sat at the bar. Got the salmon Love roll and the crunchy tuna roll with the crispy rice and the Nori chips. BEST FOOD IVE HAD IN NASHVILLE. Jocie (our server) is amazing. Will 5ever give them my business anytime i eat out. Wow. No brainer, a MUST if you are considering.

I took my fiancé here for his birthday. The album feature of the night was "The Internet". This is a very busy vibrant place, which made it very hard to enjoy the music and hear it. The vibes were amazing though. My espresso martini was sooo good and strong! Overall I give the food 5 out of 10. Nothing to rave about. I won't come back for dinner again, but I can definitely see myself stopping by for happy hour. Also, parking is validated if you park at the JW Marriott, which was very convenient.

Sushi and vinyl? Yes, please. The staff was attentive from start to finish. The dj took requests (checkout their playlist on their website beforehand). The music was never too loud and we sat near the speaker. The sushi was great!

888 is not a restaurant, it's a psychological operation. First time I walked in I thought, "Oh... I'm not rich enough to be here, but they're letting me stay." By the third visit I was fully expecting someone to wipe my ass, moisturize my hands, and whisper affirmations about my potential. They don't but the vibe suggests they could. The food is unhinged in the best way. Sushi that has no business being this seductive. Salads dressed better than me. Chicken that tastes like it was raised on generational wealth and classical music. Every plate shows up looking like it wants applause. You eat it and immediately start making irresponsible life plans. I have to space my visits out because my bank account starts sweating. Like actively shaking. This is a "once in a while until I get promoted, married rich, or commit light fraud" type of place. Still? Worth every dollar and mild financial panic. Staff is mostly immaculate. I did get one server who was dry and slightly rude but listen, I'm not here for therapy. I'm here to chew. Humans have moods. I lived. The food still changed me. Music? Loud, sexy, and disrespectful. Decor? Aggressively hot. The entire place feels like confidence, poor decisions, and a credit card with no spending limit.

High end, high quality Japanese food! I'm going to jump straight into the quality - superb! A nice touch/extra step they take with their quality is they state on their menu where they source their seafood directly from - Toyosu market in Tokyo, Japan. I have a hook up there so I got to extensively/exclusively tour the Toyosu market back in 2024. I can confirm - everything there is very fresh and first-rate. I really tasted the premium quality at 888 in their 888 roll; it combines multiple different kinds of fish and each one is sooo buttery soft. The green sauce that comes with the 888 roll on the side is amazing. Never tasted anything like it before; it has a nice kick to it. I asked for a whole side of it and dunked every piece of sushi in it as I went. We went during happy hour, which I recommend. Loved the tuna tataki so much that we had to order another round! I usually don't like eating ginger with my sushi/fish, but it was already rolled into each piece of tuna; no complaints! The flavor combo was excellent. I thought the surf and turf roll was interesting. I didn't taste much lobster, so that was slightly disappointing. David was our bartender/server. He was excellent! He made my friend's drink so good that she had to get another round. She said that was the best lemon drop she has ever had, hands down. I will say, the restaurant is VERY dark. I even made a joke saying their electricity bill must be $5 a month. Eventually, our eyes did adjust but dang, I could barely see when I first walked in.

Overall: A great higher end restaurant that has such a cool vinyl concept. The spicy tuna sushi was pretty solid and props to the ube espresso martini! Chicken kaarage was alright for me, but my friend loved it. We chose this for a girls' night out and it did not disappoint. Service: Our server and host were super kind and knowledgeable about the menu / recommendations. Ambiance: So pretty inside and got lots of great photo ops :)

Absolutely wonderful! We loved the DJ and music -- the vibe and atmosphere were fantastic. The food was fresh and high quality, and the service was excellent. We really enjoyed our visit!

This is it. Speakeasy meets sushi house. A "must visit" for anyone in Nashville looking for an effortlessly chic spot with coastal fresh sushi and elevated cocktails. Friendly service and focused menu. Highly recommend the 888 roll.

Best damn sushi I have had. Great experience from the time you walk in to the end of the meal. Service was amazing, the sushi was fresh and full of flavor. The recommendations from the staff was on point. Great music and ambiance, treat yourself and give it a try.

I stopped by after work with some coworkers, and I'm so happy I found this place! The food is delicious! and the drinks are well made! A perfect balance! This is my favorite restaurant in Nashville! The ambiance is amazing! I love that this place is a vinyl bar as well! Food that was ordered: Chicken karaage : 9/10 Okonomiyaki : 10/10 Edamame :10/10 Donabe Fried Rice : 10/10 Drinks: Matcha Mezal Sour : 10000/10 totally recommend !

888 was an amazing experience for any food lover or sushi lover in Nashville. My friend and I had planned it from the get-go of our Nashville trip. Our server Babs was amazing and so sweet; the service was top notch and the items were outstanding. We can't wait to go back!

This restaurant is such a place! I love walking into a restaurant and it just feels like it's going to be a vibe. We just happen to stop in last minute and sat at the bar. I had the expresso martini and it had Ube I believe in it and it was pretty good. And my friend just told the bartender to just make her something light and refreshing and I think he made her some type of lychee martini and she liked it. And we just came from eating somewhere else but I don't know how we ended up ordering fried rice and it was actually pretty good. But I just really like the vibe and ambience in there. I've been trying to go to one of their little things that they be having different days with different types of music spins but haven't made it yet but I am definitely looking forward to attending one of that and just eat and chill with some good music.

We tried a variety of dishes since we were told that the set up is family style: Hamachi Crudo: 10/10 one of the best I've ever had! Super fresh and the sauce paired well with it. Bluefin Tune Crudo: 8/10 It was really fresh and well prepared, but I've had better elsewhere. I typically prefer bluefin tuna sashimi or nigiri anyway. Tuna Crispy Rice: 9/10 This was such a fun and delicious way to eat spicy tuna! All of the seasonings made it packed full of flavor. Tomahawk Ribeye 9/10: This was insanely tender, and well seasoned. Tip: ask for lemon wedges to sprinkle some lemon juice on it--thank me later. Broccolini 8/10: well prepared, and I loved the lemongrass garlic chili that topped it East Side Shrimp 7/10: These were well cooked and well seasoned. Loved the salad placed underneath it. Wagyu Tartare 8/10: It was well prepared and loved that it's paired with nori and rice. Wished it had a bit more punch to it in terms of seasoning. Crab Fried Rice 8/10: this was delicious but still say it's a solid 8. Beautifully prepared! Korean Hot Wings 2.5/10: I could tell that it was well cooked, but it was insanely salty; it was practically inedible. Hurricane Fries 9/10: These were so delicious! You are immediately hit with the smell of truffle, which made my mouth water. Packed with flavor! Brussels 7/10: These were well roasted, but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. I highly recommend trying this place out!

A good amoutn of tables, but does not feel too crowded. To get Shabu Shabu, you either sit at the bar or you grab a table that is condusive to shabu shabu. If you have multiple people ordering shabu shabu with different broths, you should grab the bar. The New York strip is better than the short rib, in my view. I did the miso broth, which is not overly salty, like some. A definite win for me. Adding in the spicy chile oil, fresh garlic, and scallions added the proper kick to the broth. The handroll was truly a handroll. She said she preferred when they sent it out rolled, as there was more rice than she normally likes. But the salmon itself was done well and tasty. The lamb lollipops were excellently done. I would return for this alone. Having numbers on the drinks is likely authentic, but I love creative names. The 35 is a Japanese twist on an Old Fashioned. The sishito pepper is a nice touch as a garnish (or appetizer?). The 34 was even better. It did not quite hit the high note of a similar drink at Sushi-San, but it did not disappoint. I can safely recommend this to anyone wanting to get shabu shabu without the all you can eat buffet option you get at shabu shabu on West End.

They book out 6 weeks in advance; with only 14 seats and 3 seatings per night, they are sold out in seconds when they go on sale at midnight. I have lucked out twice, once even getting a duo, so not impossible, but not easy. When you enter, you walk into a small bar area, where you can order a cocktail or two. I opted for the Shibuyu Nights, which had a slight coffee note on top of the whisky and bourbon. At the prescribed time, you are led into the omekase and the experience begins. Cue fanfare music now. This is nearly the definition of perfection. Each dish was both art and culinary genius. Pacing is perfect. Chefs interact with the patrons, enhancing the experience and the wait staff is well versed on which types of sake work best with different course. At the end of the meal you can add on extras, some from the menu and others off. If you are not full, I recommend considering the add ons. Kudos to the chef for handling my shellfish allergy with wonderful subsitutions. At $75, this is a steal. WIth extras, sake, and drinks, I ran over $200 for 1, but it was worth every minute. I don't typically like sushi and sashimi even less. The texture of a raw fish concerned me. Hubby loves it though, so I wanted to give it a chance. I figured if I was going to try, it needed to be at a place that knew what they were doing. James our sushi chef, definitely knew what he was doing. The servings were one piece at a time, served at a comfortable pace. Each piece was a different sort of fish, or a piece of wagyu beef! I enjoyed myself. The flavors made up for my personal wariness of the textures. Each piece was filled with delicious flavors. We ended up super full and content, and happy with our time here. I highly recommend.

None of us had been to Present Tense before, and we were excited to try it (we picked it because the menu looked great and it was central - we were heading to Green Hills after and my brother in law was heading downtown). Present Tense is a Japanese-izakaya inspired restaurant and natural wine bar. It's tiny, with only 14 chef's counter seats, a few indoor tables, and even fewer outdoor tables. We had a reservation for 5:30pm. We waited a bit to be seated but were soon sat at an indoor table (the outdoors remained busier throughout our dinner). Reservations are recommended. We shared several dishes from their menu: a half dozen Miyagi oysters with yuzu leche de tigre and tarragon oil; yellowtail amberjack sashimi with citrus, orange wine, and olive oil; mushroom rice with an egg yolk and hemp seed furikake; Wagyu flat iron steak with black sesame mole and lime; and blood orange and prickly pear soft serve for dessert. We enjoyed everything, and I think it says a lot that argued about our favorite courses; one of us made an argument for almost every course. In addition to our food, we each had 2 glasses of wine or 2 cocktails (wine for me; cocktails for the boys). The wines are natural and interesting, and the cocktails were creative and delicious. The restaurant is modern and cool, and the ambiance was great. If anything is holding me back from giving Present Tense five stars, it is probably the service. It just wasn't the most welcoming/friendliest spot. And beware - the location is great (surrounded by lots of bars to go to after dinner - if you don't stay at Present Tense to keep drinking their great wine), but parking in Wedgewood-Houston is worse and worse all the time as it keeps expanding and growing. We found street parking a couple of blocks away, but our dinner was on the earlier side. Give yourself some time to find parking if you drive there. Overall, we had a really good time at Present Tense. The food was creative and delicious, and we enjoyed eating it and being surprised by it. And I loved their focus on natural wines. I'd come just to drink great wines and have a small plate or two. Anytime, really. Someone invite me, please.

They also have a fun selection of drinks, including Boba teas with lots of options. Wheelchair accessibility: so right off the bat there's not a lot of great parking options and we did not see an accessible parking space close. There's a double door entrance, which is very tight and would be hard to navigate by a chair user on their own. Other than that this restaurant actually really wheelchair accessible, with the exception of the fact that the floors are super slippery and this I guess is for both chair users and ambulatory humans. It's just slippery. The bathrooms are fine. There's a nice accessible stall and everything was reachable and the door into the bathroom was really light. The height of the Hot pot table is actually the perfect height for a wheelchair user which is tricky at a lot of these different restaurants. So kudos to that.
