Koshō made sure that our 20th anniversary dinner was memorable. We were greeted so warmly and wished a genuine happy anniversary. I love when restaurants notice these details on the reservation. We were seated at our corner booth in a quiet area. The atmosphere is stunning. I was delighted to see that even the menus had a "Happy 20th anniversary, lovebirds" message printed on them. So thoughtful! Our lovely waitress recommended that we order about 5 dishes between us which was super helpful. She gave us some recommendations and guided us through the menu. Everything we tried was delicious but the bao buns and the lamb were probably my favorites of the night. Thank you so much for a lovely and unforgettable evening. read more

We were looking on Google Maps for a place to eat nearby when we came across Kosho and noticed all the great reviews. We decided to give it a try, and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is on the smaller side with a mix of table seating and counter seats overlooking the kitchen. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation because it filled up quickly. Even though the restaurant was packed, the noise level was perfect--we could still have a conversation without shouting. The bar service for drinks was a little slow, but the staff kept us updated throughout and were incredibly friendly. Everyone was hustling--they handled check-ins, took orders, ran food, and kept everything moving despite how busy they were. The food completely exceeded my expectations. The ahi toast and seared yellowtail were absolute must-orders. Both had incredible flavor, and the fish practically melted in your mouth. The cucumber salad was fresh, flavorful, and a great appetizer while we waited for our drinks. The dumplings took quite a while to come out (they actually arrived after our hot pot), and while they were tasty, they weren't nearly as memorable as everything else we ordered. The shabu shabu was outstanding. We chose the miso broth with the NY strip, and the portion was huge! There was more than enough food for the three of us to happily share, and everything was fresh and delicious. Our cocktails were excellent and well worth the wait. Overall, Kosho delivered a fantastic dining experience with amazing food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere. We'll definitely be back! read more

This is currently my favorite new restaurant in Nashville. I have been missing a true shabu shabu experience and this hits on a very high note. The atmosphere is very contemporary. A good amoutn of tables, but does not feel too crowded. To get Shabu Shabu, you either sit at the bar or you grab a table that is condusive to shabu shabu. If you have multiple people ordering shabu shabu with different broths, you should grab the bar. The New York strip is better than the short rib, in my view. I did the miso broth, which is not overly salty, like some. A definite win for me. Adding in the spicy chile oil, fresh garlic, and scallions added the proper kick to the broth. The handroll was truly a handroll. She said she preferred when they sent it out rolled, as there was more rice than she normally likes. But the salmon itself was done well and tasty. The lamb lollipops were excellently done. I would return for this alone. Having numbers on the drinks is likely authentic, but I love creative names. The 35 is a Japanese twist on an Old Fashioned. The sishito pepper is a nice touch as a garnish (or appetizer?). The 34 was even better. It did not quite hit the high note of a similar drink at Sushi-San, but it did not disappoint. I can safely recommend this to anyone wanting to get shabu shabu without the all you can eat buffet option you get at shabu shabu on West End. read more

First time dining here and I already can't wait to be back. I started with the wagyu and truffle hand roll, along with the spicy tuna hand roll. Both rolls were very fresh and the pickled ginger complemented them very well. The cassava fries paired with the yuzu aioli went perfectly with the chicken karaage. The unagi and crispy rice tasted amazing, the combination of the buttery soft sweet eel with the crispy rice and freshness from the jalapeño and miro herbs made for the perfect bite. As a main entrée I had the signature garlic noodles with shrimp, bonito flakes, and mushrooms. Normally I'm not a huge mushroom fan, but everything in this plate was delectable. The service is amazing even from the very entrance, you instantly feel welcomed. Vicky was amazing both drinks were a work of art with refreshing aromatic flavors. The Ube Banana pudding was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. A must every time I visit! The inside is beautifully decorated. The two floors allow for private intimate seating and casual dining. read more

What a treat!! It's so refreshing to see amazing Asian food in Nashville. I love the concept of Kosho with Asian small plates, handrolls, shabu shabu, and izakaya skewers. We learned that the menu changes over time, which is exciting. We came for Valentine's Day and sat at the counter so we got a front row seat to everything. Nick was truly the best! We got to chat with him a little and he provided exceptional customer service. Will was our server and he gave really good recommendations and made sure we had a great night. Every single item was FIRE and sooo good! Shabu shabu: this was impressive as you get to pick one of three broths (sukiyaki, miso, kombu ) and you can even do 50/50 of the broths. We chose sukiyaki broth which is a little sweet like teriyaki. For meats, we picked the wagyu beef, which was freshly thinly sliced when ordered. The meat literally melted in our mouth. It also came with veggies, tofu, and ramen noodles which was a great touch. Great portions for 2 people. Unagi crispy rice: Get it!! That crispy rice was perfectly crisped and the unagi flavor was amazing. Wagyu handroll: the Wagyu beef melted in our mouths, so good. Highly recommended. Spicy tuna handroll: very fresh and delicious Shrimp garlic noodles: sooo flavorful, lots of garlic flavors For drinks, I got the lychee martini and it was the perfect level of sweetness. You really taste the lychee which I loved. For dessert, we tried the ube banana pudding. Great ube flavors and the banana pudding was light and so good. I can't wait to come back and try other things ! read more

My husband and I came here last weekend to celebrate his birthday. It is the perfect spot! We tried so many things off the menu, and they were all delicious! Our server helped us navigate which options were raw and what would be pregnancy safe. I was grateful for his help and that there were so many options I could choose from! The highlight of the meal was the Shabu Shabu. It was definitely enough food for two people without all the other food we ordered. The New York Strip was absolutely delicious, and I was impressed by how generous the portion was. I had the spicy mocktail, and it was so refreshing. I appreciate that it was reasonably priced, as that is not always the case with mocktails in Nashville. My husband tried two different whiskey cocktails and enjoyed both. We took advantage of the reduced parking rate in the garage next door. I can't wait to come back! read more

I saw this place had great ratings here so decided to stop in for a week night dinner. I was able to find free street parking nearby. There were a couple of other tables occupied and I was seated immediately. The hostess was very friendly. It has a cute cozy vibe. Our server brought us filtered water and ran down the menu being sure to note when dishes wouldn't meet any dietary restrictions. I ordered the unagi crispy rice and miso cod with sweet potato puree. My friend ordered the steak, brussels sprouts, and pickled cucumbers. The meal arrived all at different times. The steak tasted off so I tried it too and it was bad. So bad that a chef came to apologize for letting it come to the table. They of course comped it. The cucumbers were ok. I enjoyed the unagi crispy rice and the miso cod was good. Overall I don't think the meal will be memorable. read more

I've been to Kosho many times in the last year + that they have been open and have always had the BEST experience. The service and kindness of every staff member that works here is above & beyond most restaurants. They always have fun, creative new specials or menu items that are exciting & always flavorful. Kosho - Garlic Noodles - Bars Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

Kosho in Nashville, Tennessee is definitely a must-visit if you're into elevated cuisine Our top three favorites were the pork belly buns, potstickers, and spicy tuna don -- all a solid 10/10. The garlic noodles were also incredible! Honestly, everything we tried was delicious, but the pork belly buns stole the show. The venue was open and very clean, you could see them cooking your order. Be sure to make a reservation and plan ahead -- everything is made to order, and totally worth the wait! read more

Can't wait to come back -- still dreaming of the garlic noodles! A really top-notch experience from start to finish; among the best service and hospitality we've experienced in Nashville, with inventive food and drinks to match. We really appreciated the chef stopping by to introduce himself, too. Favorites included the cucumber; edamame hummus (could've licked the bowl!); garlic noodles; and blistered broccolini. We loved sitting in the bar's dining nook, as recommended by another reviewer. It was quiet and cozy. read more

This was my first ever hot pot experience and lets just say.. after the first time I went back for a second time within two weeks. My friend is from Newport Beach and was so excited to hear Nashvile got something by Tabu. I, personally, have no idea what this was so thankfully I have a Californian to tell me about it! The first time we went I went with a group of friends and we sat at the bar for the hot pot. We were greeted at the door by Ellie who checked on us with a smiling face throughout our time at Kosho. Our server and bartender were both named Will and both were great! I got one of their signature drinks that is a gin and tonic with a twist. It was refreshing, strong, and just what I needed. They had some fun beers on the menu which my boyfriend ordered. I totally forgot which one he ordered but it was good and fun to try a new one! We got the pork belly skewer- sooo good! I love when pork belly is cooked to get crispy and delicious. Do not sleep on the handrolls. I would literally go and get a handroll every day if I lived close. I would recommend sharing one hot pot per two people! I also asked the staff what their favorite was and learned a hack- mix the miso and the sukiyaki. The first time we did sukiyaki and second time we mixed. Just go for it and mix it!! I'll never do it any other way. Cant wait to come back to Kosho! read more

This was my first time at Kosho after being recommended by a friend. We went on a Wednesday evening so it was pretty mellow and the decor was fitting for the asian cuisine. Our waitress was very attentive and recommended different plates as well! The unagi crispy rice, shrimp curry roti and the ube banana pudding stole the show. We got two orders of the unagi crispy rice and the shrimp curry with the roti was so good. The seared hamachi was a little strange due to the furikake with the overpowering sauce and the waygu croquettes and pork belly was okay. I would definitely go back and also try the hot pot as well and order some of the same things. read more

A MUST TRY! We heard about this restaurant from a friend, and it lived up to the hype. I really like the modern well curated vibe, and superb hospitality. The menu is filled with good food, all of which have unique flavor profiles and all complement each other. The drink list is equally as impressive as the food menu, and the service is A+. My favorite food items that we had were the Chicken and Scallion skewers, Chashu Pork. Bao, Tebasaki Wings, Unagi Crispy Rice, Chicken Karaage, and the Ahi Toast! Favorite drink was the Paper Airplane! Can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu. read more

Kosho - Unagi & Crispy Rice - Bars Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

Kosho was amazing from the start of our dinner to the end. Service was phenomenal with Logan being a great server, and the atmosphere is modern with Asian inspiration. The best part was the food was some of the best we've had in Nashville. We could not fault any of the 4 options we got. The chicken kaarage was delicious and lightly breaded which made it not too heavy. The edamame hummus was so unique and we were shocked with how well it paired with the wontons. The unagi and crispy rice was my personal favorite with an overwhelming amount of different flavors. The pork bao buns were outstanding and I could eat way too many of them if left unattended. Overall, we couldn't be happier we tried Kosho on a whim, and would urge others to do the same. read more

Last night at "Kosho by Tabu." Your GPS might question your taste, but your palate will be thanking you. This Tokyo-meets-art-deco Japanese joint did not disappoint! First off, we were greeted by lovely staff, who whisked us off to the bar area, with its plush banquette seating. The cocktail list gets high respect. At an average of $15, the mixology is right on track, with exotic unpronounceables that take you to foreign shores. The saké list is nicely curated and also well-priced. We started with the cucumber sunomono. So fresh and delicious that you feel sad for all the other cucumbers that didn't get invited. It was also the perfect foil for the spicy tuna don, a delicious combination of yellowfin, nori, and vinegar rice, which layered flavor, umami, and heat and made me wonder if I ever need to eat sushi again. Next up were the broccolini and the shrimp po bao, the latter being a must-try: a crunchy, pillowy, creative chaos of well-balanced flavors. The salmon yakitori was also yummy, with a miso drizzle! The dessert options sounded impressive, but we were too full after our sumptuous smorgasbord and our renewed belief in the power of fermented rice. read more

One of my bosses was in town and asked for a place to go. I sent him a list, but one of the people he was working with here suggested this place and made a reservation for us. I'd never heard of it, but wow, what a hidden gem! We walked in right when they opened and were incredibly friendly in seating us. We originally sat in the bar nook, which was so cozy, but decided we wanted to try the hot plate soup cooking experience. (The Shabu Bar) We also ordered Salmon Crudo (which was phenomenal), Cucumber Sunomono (so good) and the Garlic Noodles (still so good the next day!). We were recommended to do the NY strip for the Shabu. Personally, it didn't have much flavor and it wasn't my favorite. They bring it on a plate in semi frozen rolls, almost like you'd see in a Mongolian buffet restaurant. Overall, it was really good though. They give you a ton of dipping sauces, and the broth was so good. I loved the cabbage and noodles in it, especially after they cooked for awhile. We had banana pudding for dessert. It was good. Rich and a giant portion. It felt a little odd for the type of restaurant we were in (I didn't want the rice ice cream and they were out of donuts), but it was still good. I could only really eat a few bites of it. It was a little pricey, but it seems to be expected in Nashville these days. It's on the upper end of mid level dining I would say. Expected to spend at least about $50/person. End of the day: Great service Great food Great atmosphere I would highly recommend it. I rarely go out to eat as I enjoy cooking at home, but I would definitely come back. There were a lot of things that I really wanted to try! read more

Fantastic restaurant! Zen ambience with a buzz. Fabulous food and service. I had a delicious meal in 45 minutes before I had run to a concert. Most of the dishes were phenomenal. MUST GET: Unagi and crispy rice - ingenious on balance of texture. Soft unagi with crispy rice. Salmon crudo. Fabulous sauce. Fresh and soft salmon that melts in your mouth Brocollini side - balsamic vinegar with honey infused overtone. The brocollini head was a bit crispy. Another great dish for texture and flavor. It was hard to eat with chopsticks. Recommend using knife and fork for this dish. SOLID: Chicken and scallion yakitori and wagyu short rib yakitori. I liked the chicken yakitori a bit better between the two. Don't miss the kosho sauce on the side for the yakitori. Seared hamachi: lightly seared on the side. Sake was also excellent read more

I actually came for the Guyanese chef pop up event (word to Pepper Pot). I had not heard of Kosho, I just came because I love carribean food of any kind and was intrigued by a fusion with Japanese food. I didn't know they would have their regular menu in addition to the pop up menu, what a nice surprise because the food was amazing. I got cabbage off the pop up menu but decided to order the garlic noodles of Kosho menu. I've tried garlic noodles at a similar Asian restaurant here and the garlic is always too overpowering. But this dish was delicious and balanced. The juicy jumbo shrimp were a perfect addition. I ate the entire thing in one sitting because I couldn't stop eating it. The service was also top notch. Several staff checked on me throughout the evening and everyone had a great attitude. The space has a nice vibe , I like the downstairs bar area which is were I was seated. Kosho is a great find in a city with a bunch of decent restaurants that struggle to differentiate themselves from each other. We opted for the cucumber sunomono, chicken and scallion yakitori, and shabu with salmon in a sukiyaki broth. Everything was delish! Though I probably would order the miso broth instead of sukiyaki for the shabu. I prefer savory and spice over sweetness and I had to doctor the heck out of it to offset the sweetness, which became more and more pronounced as it concentrated. Love the sake options. The staff was amazing!!! I love the eclectic hip hop vibes. Definitely check it out! read more

I went for a week night dinner with my spouse and some friends. The restaurant was packed but luckily we made a reservation and were seated quickly. There were some open seats at the bar. Our server was so kind and friendly. Everything tasted really delicious. Our favorite bites were the chicken karaage, unagi crispy rice, garlic noodles with shrimp and Wagyu croquettes. To start, the service by Via was incredible, she's sweet, funny, and had recommendations that did NOT disappoint one bit. We have the seared hamachi which was seared to perfection and the flavors were balanced and the fish melted in our mouths. The unagi crispy rice is one of the best eel dishes we have ever had!! I will be dreaming about their garlic noodles for months to come! We've considered canceling our upcoming reservations on our trip to come back and try the rest of the menu! I recently spent part of 5 days and 4 nights in Nashville. During that time I had dinner twice at Kosho. The food was outstanding! What brought me back a second time were the people and the great service they provided! I have read the book "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will G. This restaurant met many of the books goals of excellence! I personally met the Owners, the bartender, one of the waitstaff from my State and the receptionist! To a person, all were engaging, caring, fun and attentive to the extreme. The first night, along with the bill, I got a very sweet personal note! Who gets a personal note at the end of the meal? Outstanding service and food. Every dish we had was excellent. Can't wait to try this place again.

I had mixed feelings about this restaurant. The restaurant was beautiful in design. You're greeted warmly and seated quickly. The servers are personable and polite. We started with a cocktail. We went with the number 7. We were impressed. It was a refreshing tequila cocktail with light bubbles. They change the cocktail menu up, so it may not be the same next time. The only down part was it took about 10mins to get after it was ordered. We started with two appetizers, that took about 15-20mins to come out. We got the pickled cucumbers, which were delicious and refreshing. We also had the salmon crudo. The salmon paired perfectly with the ponzu sauce. The only thing we didn't like was the salmon has a more than normal, super fishy taste to it. We ordered everything else since we didn't know how long it would take to come out. We got the chicken kaarage, which was basic. But the Wagyu croquettes were amazing! They were so flavorful and the sauce was great. The lamb wasn't anything impressive. Same with the Wagyu yakitori. It was chewy and bland. The garlic noodles were extra garlicky and salty. The bok choy was also very salty. The dessert was a rotating dessert, so not always on the menu. It was incredible though! The only downfall was it was so tiny. You could have ate the whole thing in maybe 2-3 bites. Overall the service was great, just slow. Unfortunately, the food isn't anything I would come back for. But it was a nice place to try out. read more

So I have gotten take out twice from here now and the first time I ordered the seared hamachi, cucumber salad, the ponzu ny prime, the chicken yakitori and the ube banana pudding. The hamachi was amazing as well as the ube banana pudding. The chicken was awful, flavorless and rubbery, the ny prime wasn't bad, the sauce carried it but take that away the steak had zero flavor, no salt no sear no nothing. Cucumbers were crunchy and decent, wish they had a little bit more salt to balance the sweetness but still decently good. So my take was the hamachi, cucumbers and ube pudding were great and I would come back for those items. Second time coming I did just that and maybe it was just a bad day but all of this is awful. The hamachi had no sear on it at all and usually hamachi has a soft ocean flavor and this was so intensely strong but besides that there was zero sear on it and for some reason the texture was just... undesirable. The cucumbers are exactly the same so no gripe. And I ordered 2 ube banana puddings and a huge disappointment. The whipped cream on top taste out of a spray can and it was weirdly watery and slightly overly grainy too. It honestly seems old. Not to mention they were $16 each and I got 2. So I paid $32 for old, possibly expired and inedible desserts. Massive disappointment in comparison to the first experience. I will not be coming back. Gave 2 stars because the first time was pleasant and the inside of the restaurant is very nice. Also servers are friendly read more

Kosho - Shabu. Pork belly - Bars Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

An unforgettable experience--food, drinks, and hospitality all dialed in. From start to finish, Kosho by Tabu delivered an exceptional dining experience that felt both elevated and personal. We sat in the lounge, and Cole--our bartender and server--went above and beyond. Instead of handing us a cocktail list, he asked about our preferences and crafted cocktails that were totally custom, creative, and spot on. It's rare to find someone who nails that level of personalized mixology. Owner Nick was also an incredibly gracious host. He made the rounds throughout the night, checking in and making guests feel genuinely welcome--there's clearly pride in what they've built here, and it shows. Now the food. Every dish felt intentional and flavorful--here's what we had: * Deconstructed Spicy Tuna Roll - a fresh and fun twist on a classic; beautifully plated and packed with flavor. * Dumpling Special (weekend preview) - we were lucky enough to sample these ahead of their debut, and they were fantastic. Delicate, savory, and perfectly balanced. * Pork Belly Bao - soft buns, crispy pork, and a sauce that tied it all together. * Lamb Lollipop - cooked beautifully, tender and packed with bold flavor. * NY Prime with Drunken Mushrooms - steak was rich and tender, and those mushrooms? Game changer. * Grilled Yellowtail Collar (special of the day) - fresh off the grill and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth. A standout. The atmosphere is sleek and modern but still comfortable--great lighting, stylish decor, and music that sets the tone without being overwhelming. Whether you're a Nashville local or just in town for a visit, Kosho by Tabu should be high on your list. It's the kind of place where the food is memorable, the drinks are crafted with care, and the people genuinely want you to have a great night. read more

Kosho was one of those places where we keep saying "let's just try one more thing" until the table was full. Everything came out looking different but the flavors actually work really well together! The atmosphere made it even better lively without feeling chaotic. This is definitely a place I'd probably return to when I'm back to Nashville. 5/5 read more

I dined here with my foodie dad and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It's a new Japanese place, which has become trendy now, but it is beautifully executed. The ambience is sleek and beautiful, the open kitchen is engaging, and the staff are all so kind and attentive. Here's what we tried: Salmon Crudo: 9.5/10 - Literally SO buttery and smooth. I cannot fault this salmon. And they were arranged in little rosettes which was so cute. Unagi on crispy rice: 7/10 - The texture was absolutely delightful (soft, smooth unagi with crunchy yet chewy rice), but the flavor was a bit lacking. Just dull. Wagyu croquettes: 8.5/10 - These were delicious, especially with the pickled red onions on top adding a zing of acidity. However, the flavor was very beefy without the intense richness I get from most wagyu. Pork bao: 10/10 - WOW!!! This was a perfect bao. The pork was tender and melt in the mouth, and the accompaniments just created the perfect bite. No notes. Wagyu short rib yakitori: 8.5/10 - I love wagyu, can you tell? Again, I just wish the wagyu richness was more prominent, but the salty mint spread that the meat came with was clever and unique. Garlic noodles: 9/10 - The biggest portion of the night. The noodles were very garlicky, super fresh and hot, and came with huge juicy shrimp. The most fun part about this dish is that when it comes out, the bonito flakes (fish skin) on top look like they're dancing and alive! I would definitely come back, even just to try the Shabu bar! Make sure you know you can only try the hot pot if you sit at the bar. read more

We sat in the bar nook, which, in my opinion, is the best seat in the house. We had the wagyu croquettes, the chicken yakitori, the tuna don, and their house special of the day, the lemongrass chicken dumplings. All 4 were excellent, but the lemongrass dumplings stood out the most. I hope that makes it onto the main menu at some point. The drinks were also standout. They make an excellent old-fashioned, and their #9, which is a version of a sake bomb, was also amazing. The other choices on their drink menu were very inspired and interesting. I would've had their #4, but they were unable to make them on that particular day The service was excellent, however, the parking was slightly confusing, as the parking that they validate is the garage next door, not the lot right outside. The owner, Nick, came out to talk to us at the end of our meal, which was super interesting,as his goal is to continue to diversify Nashville's growing food scene. The interior decoration was also super relaxing and inviting. It makes you want to stay for a while and just appreciate the food and drinks, rather than just coming and going. I foresee that it'll be an awesome place to hang out with friends and family for us in the future. read more

4.2/5! The service was really good. Our server was fun and gave us plenty of recommendations. Really nice space with a Yoshimoto Nara picture on the wall, loved that touch. I got the #9 drink to start and then the sake juice box which was adorable. The star of the night probably was the salmon crudo, so delicious and fresh! We got the wagyu short rib for hotpot and the portion of the meat was perfect along with the served sides. (Also our server gave us what I believe was a chili oil sauce and it elevated and complimented the meat a lot.) My only critic is that I wish that the hot pot being only at the bar was a little bit more advertised. Initially I didn't realize that you only get hotpot if you pick to sit at the Shabu counter when I made the reservation. Thankfully I decided to look at the menu at that's when I actually realized so maybe a rookie mistake but that could've been frustrating if I hadn't went back to look at the menu. So just something to keep in mind! I will be back to try more. :) read more

Great find just outside downtown Nashville. They have a few different options including hot pot. The place has a great modern ambiance, and service was excellent throughout. The food was delicious overall- the pork belly came with a peanut sauce that had just the right amount of kick.
