What a treat!! It's so refreshing to see amazing Asian food in Nashville. I love the concept of Kosho with Asian small plates, handrolls, shabu shabu, and izakaya skewers. We learned that the menu changes over time, which is exciting. We came for Valentine's Day and sat at the counter so we got a front row seat to everything. Nick was truly the best! We got to chat with him a little and he provided exceptional customer service. Will was our server and he gave really good recommendations and made sure we had a great night. Every single item was FIRE and sooo good! Shabu shabu: this was impressive as you get to pick one of three broths (sukiyaki, miso, kombu ) and you can even do 50/50 of the broths. We chose sukiyaki broth which is a little sweet like teriyaki. For meats, we picked the wagyu beef, which was freshly thinly sliced when ordered. The meat literally melted in our mouth. It also came with veggies, tofu, and ramen noodles which was a great touch. Great portions for 2 people. Unagi crispy rice: Get it!! That crispy rice was perfectly crisped and the unagi flavor was amazing. Wagyu handroll: the Wagyu beef melted in our mouths, so good. Highly recommended. Spicy tuna handroll: very fresh and delicious Shrimp garlic noodles: sooo flavorful, lots of garlic flavors For drinks, I got the lychee martini and it was the perfect level of sweetness. You really taste the lychee which I loved. For dessert, we tried the ube banana pudding. Great ube flavors and the banana pudding was light and so good. I can't wait to come back and try other things !

I've been to Kosho many times in the last year + that they have been open and have always had the BEST experience. The service and kindness of every staff member that works here is above & beyond most restaurants. They always have fun, creative new specials or menu items that are exciting & always flavorful. The lounge area is a perfect golden hour spot to enjoy their fantastic happy hour specials. One of my all-time favorite restaurants. Not just in Nashville, but anywhere!

My husband and I came here last weekend to celebrate his birthday. It is the perfect spot! We tried so many things off the menu, and they were all delicious! Our server helped us navigate which options were raw and what would be pregnancy safe. I was grateful for his help and that there were so many options I could choose from! The highlight of the meal was the Shabu Shabu. It was definitely enough food for two people without all the other food we ordered. The New York Strip was absolutely delicious, and I was impressed by how generous the portion was. I had the spicy mocktail, and it was so refreshing. I appreciate that it was reasonably priced, as that is not always the case with mocktails in Nashville. My husband tried two different whiskey cocktails and enjoyed both. We took advantage of the reduced parking rate in the garage next door. I can't wait to come back!

I saw this place had great ratings here so decided to stop in for a week night dinner. I was able to find free street parking nearby. There were a couple of other tables occupied and I was seated immediately. The hostess was very friendly. It has a cute cozy vibe. Our server brought us filtered water and ran down the menu being sure to note when dishes wouldn't meet any dietary restrictions. I ordered the unagi crispy rice and miso cod with sweet potato puree. My friend ordered the steak, brussels sprouts, and pickled cucumbers. The meal arrived all at different times. The steak tasted off so I tried it too and it was bad. So bad that a chef came to apologize for letting it come to the table. They of course comped it. The cucumbers were ok. I enjoyed the unagi crispy rice and the miso cod was good. Overall I don't think the meal will be memorable.

Kitchen space appears to be larger than the dining space. Food was average, yet satisfying once I added a couple of their in house hot sauces, which were delicious. Portion size was filling and food temperature was hot upon delivery, which I definitely appreciate.

Kosho in Nashville, Tennessee is definitely a must-visit if you're into elevated cuisine Our top three favorites were the pork belly buns, potstickers, and spicy tuna don -- all a solid 10/10. The garlic noodles were also incredible! Honestly, everything we tried was delicious, but the pork belly buns stole the show. The venue was open and very clean, you could see them cooking your order. Be sure to make a reservation and plan ahead -- everything is made to order, and totally worth the wait!

Can't wait to come back -- still dreaming of the garlic noodles! A really top-notch experience from start to finish; among the best service and hospitality we've experienced in Nashville, with inventive food and drinks to match. We really appreciated the chef stopping by to introduce himself, too. Favorites included the cucumber; edamame hummus (could've licked the bowl!); garlic noodles; and blistered broccolini. We loved sitting in the bar's dining nook, as recommended by another reviewer. It was quiet and cozy.

This was my first ever hot pot experience and lets just say.. after the first time I went back for a second time within two weeks. My friend is from Newport Beach and was so excited to hear Nashvile got something by Tabu. I, personally, have no idea what this was so thankfully I have a Californian to tell me about it! The first time we went I went with a group of friends and we sat at the bar for the hot pot. We were greeted at the door by Ellie who checked on us with a smiling face throughout our time at Kosho. Our server and bartender were both named Will and both were great! I got one of their signature drinks that is a gin and tonic with a twist. It was refreshing, strong, and just what I needed. They had some fun beers on the menu which my boyfriend ordered. I totally forgot which one he ordered but it was good and fun to try a new one! We got the pork belly skewer- sooo good! I love when pork belly is cooked to get crispy and delicious. Do not sleep on the handrolls. I would literally go and get a handroll every day if I lived close. I would recommend sharing one hot pot per two people! I also asked the staff what their favorite was and learned a hack- mix the miso and the sukiyaki. The first time we did sukiyaki and second time we mixed. Just go for it and mix it!! I'll never do it any other way. Cant wait to come back to Kosho!

A MUST TRY! We heard about this restaurant from a friend, and it lived up to the hype. I really like the modern well curated vibe, and superb hospitality. The menu is filled with good food, all of which have unique flavor profiles and all complement each other. The drink list is equally as impressive as the food menu, and the service is A+. My favorite food items that we had were the Chicken and Scallion skewers, Chashu Pork. Bao, Tebasaki Wings, Unagi Crispy Rice, Chicken Karaage, and the Ahi Toast! Favorite drink was the Paper Airplane! Can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu.

The dumplings, wagyu truffle hand roll and salmon crudo were great! We also ordered the garlic noodles, cucumber salad, other hand rolls, and the wings. Service and food were good, but with so many Asian/sushi restaurants this wouldn't be one I'd crave. They do have a parking garage with free parking which is unheard of in Nashville.

This was my first time at Kosho after being recommended by a friend. We went on a Wednesday evening so it was pretty mellow and the decor was fitting for the asian cuisine. Our waitress was very attentive and recommended different plates as well! The unagi crispy rice, shrimp curry roti and the ube banana pudding stole the show. We got two orders of the unagi crispy rice and the shrimp curry with the roti was so good. The seared hamachi was a little strange due to the furikake with the overpowering sauce and the waygu croquettes and pork belly was okay. I would definitely go back and also try the hot pot as well and order some of the same things.

Kosho was amazing from the start of our dinner to the end. Service was phenomenal with Logan being a great server, and the atmosphere is modern with Asian inspiration. The best part was the food was some of the best we've had in Nashville. We could not fault any of the 4 options we got. The chicken kaarage was delicious and lightly breaded which made it not too heavy. The edamame hummus was so unique and we were shocked with how well it paired with the wontons. The unagi and crispy rice was my personal favorite with an overwhelming amount of different flavors. The pork bao buns were outstanding and I could eat way too many of them if left unattended. Overall, we couldn't be happier we tried Kosho on a whim, and would urge others to do the same.

Last night at "Kosho by Tabu." Your GPS might question your taste, but your palate will be thanking you. This Tokyo-meets-art-deco Japanese joint did not disappoint! First off, we were greeted by lovely staff, who whisked us off to the bar area, with its plush banquette seating. The cocktail list gets high respect. At an average of $15, the mixology is right on track, with exotic unpronounceables that take you to foreign shores. The saké list is nicely curated and also well-priced. We started with the cucumber sunomono. So fresh and delicious that you feel sad for all the other cucumbers that didn't get invited. It was also the perfect foil for the spicy tuna don, a delicious combination of yellowfin, nori, and vinegar rice, which layered flavor, umami, and heat and made me wonder if I ever need to eat sushi again. Next up were the broccolini and the shrimp po bao, the latter being a must-try: a crunchy, pillowy, creative chaos of well-balanced flavors. The salmon yakitori was also yummy, with a miso drizzle! The dessert options sounded impressive, but we were too full after our sumptuous smorgasbord and our renewed belief in the power of fermented rice.

We started off with a round of champagne and a bottle of red wine for dinner. We tried a variety of dishes since we were told that the set up is family style: Hamachi Crudo: 10/10 one of the best I've ever had! Super fresh and the sauce paired well with it. Bluefin Tune Crudo: 8/10 It was really fresh and well prepared, but I've had better elsewhere. I typically prefer bluefin tuna sashimi or nigiri anyway. Tuna Crispy Rice: 9/10 This was such a fun and delicious way to eat spicy tuna! All of the seasonings made it packed full of flavor. Tomahawk Ribeye 9/10: This was insanely tender, and well seasoned. Tip: ask for lemon wedges to sprinkle some lemon juice on it--thank me later. Broccolini 8/10: well prepared, and I loved the lemongrass garlic chili that topped it East Side Shrimp 7/10: These were well cooked and well seasoned. Loved the salad placed underneath it. Wagyu Tartare 8/10: It was well prepared and loved that it's paired with nori and rice. Wished it had a bit more punch to it in terms of seasoning. Crab Fried Rice 8/10: this was delicious but still say it's a solid 8. Beautifully prepared! Korean Hot Wings 2.5/10: I could tell that it was well cooked, but it was insanely salty; it was practically inedible. Hurricane Fries 9/10: These were so delicious! You are immediately hit with the smell of truffle, which made my mouth water. Packed with flavor! Brussels 7/10: These were well roasted, but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. I highly recommend trying this place out!

By the bar we got to see some of the dishes being made. Great date night spot. Limited parking. This is a tapas spot and our serve did a good job recommending how many dishes to get. The only reason Noko is not getting 5 stars is because the server said that they would time out the dishes for us, so it was best to place our entire order all at once. However, we got 3 dishes and then it took about 30 minutes for other two to come out. Maybe we were eating too fast but felt like we were waiting a while for our food. The food itself was absolutely delicious. There was nothing we ordered that I did not like. Some favorites include the burnt ends lettuce wraps and Korean chicken wings. The Sando, shrimp and tuna crispy rice was also spectacular. The tuna was so flavorful and refreshing on the tuna crispy rice. The sauce of the east side shrimp really makes the dish. I'm not a huge shrimp person but this was really good. This is a must go to spot in Nashville and would definitely want to come back.

OutSTANDING Japanese izakaya. WOW! YUM!…read more The place is quaint and classy, and the staff are incredibly poised yet friendly. Here is what we tried: -Hiramasa crudo: 10/10 - Amazing bite, and blew me out of the park. There was no fishy aftertaste, and yet the fish was fresh and flavorful. Paired with the cherry tomatoes and whatever magical sauce, it was a rich and subtle bite of heaven. -Tuna toast: 6.5/10 - To be honest, not my favorite. It wasn't bad, by any means, and the tuna had a lovely flavor and texture to it. It was clearly good quality. However, I felt as though I wasn't tasting enough of the wagyu fat aioli, or even the seaweed bread. -Squid ink pasta: 9/10 - I would describe this as a spicy sausage bolognese with squid. Divine, frankly. The noodles were thick and chewy and the depth of flavor to the sauce was perfection. -Wagyu Burger: 9/10 - I am not normally a burger girl but this one was STELLAR. It was OH SO moist and the cheese, the caramelized onions, the sauce, the sesame seeds... UGH. Yummmmm. My date said this was better than most burgers at burger week. -Hojicha Tiramisu: 9/10 - Jeez louise I am also not normally a tiramisu girl but the chocolate and cream and cake on this one paired so beautifully together. And add the miso soft serve and you honestly have a sin. -Miso Soft Serve: 7/10 - So, I was really excited about this. The soft serve itself was pretty good, though I wanted more savoriness to it, almost. More miso punch. The thing that threw me off the most was the peanut caramel. I felt as though it overpowered the miso. Anyways, would 10/10 recommend and come again.

None of us had been to Present Tense before, and we were excited to try it (we picked it because the menu looked great and it was central - we were heading to Green Hills after and my brother in law was heading downtown). Present Tense is a Japanese-izakaya inspired restaurant and natural wine bar. It's tiny, with only 14 chef's counter seats, a few indoor tables, and even fewer outdoor tables. We had a reservation for 5:30pm. We waited a bit to be seated but were soon sat at an indoor table (the outdoors remained busier throughout our dinner). Reservations are recommended. We shared several dishes from their menu: a half dozen Miyagi oysters with yuzu leche de tigre and tarragon oil; yellowtail amberjack sashimi with citrus, orange wine, and olive oil; mushroom rice with an egg yolk and hemp seed furikake; Wagyu flat iron steak with black sesame mole and lime; and blood orange and prickly pear soft serve for dessert. We enjoyed everything, and I think it says a lot that argued about our favorite courses; one of us made an argument for almost every course. In addition to our food, we each had 2 glasses of wine or 2 cocktails (wine for me; cocktails for the boys). The wines are natural and interesting, and the cocktails were creative and delicious. The restaurant is modern and cool, and the ambiance was great. If anything is holding me back from giving Present Tense five stars, it is probably the service. It just wasn't the most welcoming/friendliest spot. And beware - the location is great (surrounded by lots of bars to go to after dinner - if you don't stay at Present Tense to keep drinking their great wine), but parking in Wedgewood-Houston is worse and worse all the time as it keeps expanding and growing. We found street parking a couple of blocks away, but our dinner was on the earlier side. Give yourself some time to find parking if you drive there. Overall, we had a really good time at Present Tense. The food was creative and delicious, and we enjoyed eating it and being surprised by it. And I loved their focus on natural wines. I'd come just to drink great wines and have a small plate or two. Anytime, really. Someone invite me, please.

The three different onigiri were all delicious and different but our favorite was the yaki since the grilled rice added such a depth of flavor with the cod roe. The seasoning they serve on the side is great too. My chirashi bowl even though it was "mini" ate like a full meal. They really put a good amount of rice and salmon. Very well seasoned and everything tasted fresh. The curry rice was a very large portion and the curry tasted homemade. Chicken had so much flavor and had a nice crunch. The curry had a nice smooth flavor with small bites of potato and carrots. Highly recommend checking this place out!

This week was the wantanmen which I was really excited for because it has wontons and chashu. The ramen noodles were perfectly cooked (on the Al dente side) which I absolutely loved. The broth was so good and flavorful. The wontons, yummmmm - the filling was incredible. I wish they had some chili oil on the side. I opted to make the ramen a deluxe with extra wontons and an egg. The price is just a little steeper (over 30$ with tax and gratuity for a bowl of ramen), but I get it. It's super fresh ingredients and made with a lot of effort.

First off, the actual price of the bowl was easily $5-10 more than anywhere I've ever had ramen (including more expensive cities like Honolulu or NYC). And it's not like this could be considered upscale or fancy. Then you add a mandatory 20% tip but the only time I interacted with my server was to order the food. Someone else brought out my bowl. And I couldn't get the waitress attention to get water the whole time I was there... so what was I paying for?! So all in I paid double than I would have at the aforementioned restaurants for equal ramen and terrible service.
