This secluded spot behind the other restaurants is super cute and adds to the ambiance and excitement about trying something new. I liked the QR code food ordering option, but it felt weird that you had to go to the bar to order. I would have preferred to see a menu at the table so that we could get each other drinks rather than going in waves. We began with the gyoza which was incredible, but sadly when its good, there is never enough. The garlic style ramen will rate very high compared to all ramen. Warning: The amount of garlic is excessive; probably a metric ton. If you only like garlic, skip this; the garlic is going directly to your vein. But the flavor is immaculate all around. I would have loved a bit more protein, but it was great how it was. I can't wait to go back.
It took us forever to discover that this place was inside of Bearded Iris Brewing. We waited about 15 minutes which I thought was minimal for a Friday evening. Bearded Iris + this fabulous ramen didn't disappoint. To order, you scan a QR code for food and go up to the bar for drink orders. While minimal service, every employee was super kind and helpful! The ramen was phenomenal. The beef tartare was surprisingly good as well. I was nervous about the texture but the cracker underneath did its thing!
Let's all be thankful for this legit ramen spot in our town. It's taken me forever to get over here but man I'm glad I did & now it's going to be in my regular rotation. I got the garlic version & it was so damn packed full of flavor I was shaken. My first ramen was had in Tokyo so I try to not be a snob & complain too much about sub par ramen here in the states which is so often trash & not worth the money. That is so not the case at Black Dynasty & we should all be so glad. The crispy Onigiri was slamming as well. Great spot to snuggle up to the bar or grab a booth with friends for beer & some slurping. They are really putting so much effort & knowledge into their craft & I love them for it.
Visited Feb 18, 2024. Black Dynasty is a self seated, self food order, self drink order at the bar, and automatic 20% gratuity. One vegan ramen option while the rest are possible seafood contamination that are not recommended. 2 hour parking is available uphill behind the restaurant. All items are $10+. Child ramen bowl (noodles + egg) is $14. Adult is about $20. Interior Ambiance is nice mostly dark colors, floor to ceiling windows and full bar towards the back.
Black Dynasty is great! It's housed inside Bearded Iris Sylvan Supply and you can order your meals via QR code from a table. They have classic ramen flavors, but they always have something new and wacky, so you can come back often and not have the same thing (they'll announce their specials on Instagram). We've come here a few times now and we've really enjoyed the ramen; it has a nice depth of flavor and pairs great with the Bearded Iris beer. It is on the pricier side though, so definitely know that ahead of time, especially if you're bringing the whole family. Great ramen overall!
Everything we got from this place did not disappoint! From the crispy onigiri to the matcha dessert everything was 100/10. My friend doesn't like matcha but the dessert ended up being her favorite thing We will definitely be back! It's a first come, first serve bases so definitely plan ahead.
I really wanted to like this place. The name was cool but nothing set right with me after the smell at the door. While they were eager to sit a party of 8, the food was mediocre at best. My food gave me a tummy ache and a few others felt nauseous. We tried all the appetizers & desserts so my review is pretty honest here. Wouldn't recommend

This is the best ramen in Nashville. They have an IG account so follow that because they always have "one-day only" specials. It's fun to see what they come up with and it's always so good. Black Dynasty is located inside Bearded Iris so grab a brew while you eat. They have QR codes at each table so you order and pay on your phone making the ordering process really fast and efficient. This is a great place to meet up with friend and catch up. It's a nice a quiet atmosphere and great for a pre game.
Deliciously chewy noodles and a perfect ramen egg. The collards are an interesting but unnecessary touch. Honestly, it made the broth a bit too salty. A solid ramen but could be perfected.
I have always been an otaku lover but ever since black dynasty added the vegan tantanmen to their menu I've had a change of heart. This ramen is spectacular. So many veggie-based ramens are lacking in flavor and substance but absolutely not this one. It's got the exact right amount of heat and the scrambled tofu is grilled to perfection. Since is doesn't have much seating, I would go during non-peak hours if you are hungry and want your food quickly. Overall absolutely wonderful, if a little more than I'd like to spend on ramen, but it's definitely worth it

Broth is phenomenal & I ordered the Hellfire Style Miso Tonkotsu which came with chili crisp on the side. Spicy, but not uncomfortably spicy. Good quantity as well! Parking is easy, big parking lot for Sylvan Supply in general. It's located inside Bearded Iris. It's seat yourself, so coming with a larger group may be difficult on weekends. Not really a wait service. You scan a QR code to order, & they'll bring your food & water out to you. Drinks you order yourself at the bar. Ambiance is fine. The space is on the smaller side & music can be a little loud when crowded, but overall a comfy place to grab a beer, ramen, & hang out. The food deserves a 5/5, but taking off a star for 20% pre-paid "mandatory gratuity" for a restaurant that's primarily self-service. I'm all for tipping after a great dining experience, wait service, & making sure employees are paid sufficiently. But, I agree with other Yelpers. When you have to seat yourself, scan a QR code to order online for yourself, get up & get your own drinks, then pay a "mandatory 20% gratuity" before you receive any type of food or service, I'm not sure that's appropriate - especially when the ramen is a hefty $20 per serving to begin with. Again, I'm all for tipping when it's appropriate. But, tipping culture in many instances nowadays is getting out of hand, & this type of situation contributes to the problem. I thought they would do away with this fee after the Covid situation improved. But I guess it makes sense to keep it from a business standpoint if it really hasn't deterred business. Overall, still love this place & will continue to support them! Check them out!

Eric & India provided phenomenal service on top of the meal being out of this world fantastic. Everything is made in-house. Yes, even the gyoza wrappers AND sando bread. What do I recommend trying? Everything. Truly, order as much as you can and take what you can't eat home. You won't regret it. We sat inside but the weather is nice enough to utilize their wonderful patio season! Can't wait to go back to try more. read more

Great home-made ramen noodles! Very friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Whats not to like. Currently inside Mitchell's Deli as a pop up. Though I hear they will be moving to a permanent location near Dino's bar in a couple of months still in East Nashville. read more

Black Dynasty Ramen was one of my favorite ramen places in Nashville because of their flavors, but I did not have a good experience here. I wanted to like it because it's at a new place in Sylvan Supply and it's in Bearded Iris Brewing so there's beer and ramen. They do a 20% auto gratuity (if you hover it, it says for large parties, but you'll get an auto 20% gratuity even if it's one person). I don't mind giving that gratuity at all if there was good service. For cups of water, you have to go and fill it up yourself. To order beer, you also have to go up to the bar and order. To order food, it was an easy process where you order online and paid on the app. When I ordered my ramen, I paid for extra toppings and sauces and it didn't come with it so I had to go back and ask them for it. Then they forgot my onigiri appetizer and I had to go back to the bar and ask for it as well. For my ramen and onigiri, I paid almost $8 in tip for one person and the only service I got was someone bringing the food, yet they forgot several things and I had to get my own water. Food was good though! The miso tonkotsu ramen (pork) was flavorful and delicious. Very rich broth, noodles were cooked perfectly, and it came with an egg, nori seaweed, a piece of pork belly, and some pickled veggies. The fried onigiris were good too, very flavorful and rich in flavors. read more
Disappointed at the lack of service, auto gratuity of 20%, and small bowls but high prices. I had this at the previous location downtown and do not remember this auto gratuity, but also had full service there. I would be okay with 20$ tip if there was good service. You have to get your own water at the bar and any refills or anything is at the bar. You order the ramen via a QR code on your own and you have to order beer at the bar. The only real interaction was them bringing out the food. They have indoor bar and table seating and a nice outdoor patio. The Chicken Garlic Bomb ramen was really good and had a great burst of garlic chicken flavor. The broth was amazing, noodles were great, and it came with bamboo shoot, nori seaweed, green onions, and egg. I enjoyed this a lot and just wished the portion was a little bigger. The fried onigiri was a fried rice ball and it was packed with flavors and sauces (chipotle, miso basil mayo), and the meat is chicken and pork inside. Very saucey, but delicious. Again with the service, sadly they forgot about our appetizer and we had to go into the bar to ask them (because there is no service and they don't check on you). The mood was sophisticated and trendy. I was surprised to find so many people there on a Thursday night! The service was kind with minimal interaction (QR codes for those introverted folks FTW) and the food was very well rounded. We ordered the gyoza and classic ramen, which tasted SO RICH. read more

This is one of those weird new businesses; the ramen place is embedded in a brewery (though you can buy beer at any time, the ramen hours are more limited). There is no separate storefront for the ramen, you just walk into the bar, and you order on your phone by scanning a code, hoping that something will eventually appear. It is an oddly impersonal experience, but the people who run it nonetheless felt entitled to add a 20% tip in by default. Seeing a more conventional ramen place just outside, I wondered if I'd come to the right spot, but comparing the reviews suggests to me that I did. Here, they offer one vegan option, and the green curry I ordered held some intrigue. I like it when places do something more with their menu than just make it "the vegetarian one". Green curry is a favorite of mine and not that easy to find without some animal products in it. And I'm sure there are non-vegetarians who like green curry too. The mix of vegetables was quite pleasant, and the curry green indeed, but what really completed it was the chili crisp I added on the side, which did clear the sinuses. But while it was a tasty bowl of ramen, it was close to $25 for a small bowl without any protein (they also charge a bit on top of that for takeout), in a place that offered no real service and didn't even bring me a water. I'm just not entirely sold; if the New Age-y business model led to a better experience and better value, I'd be on board. Maybe if they had some new special, I'd come back. read more
This ramen spot is nestled within the Bearded Iris brewery. We did not know this upon our arrival, but it was a fine surprise and added to the experience! Please keep in mind this place is a brewery first, and the way the ordering process is set up shows that. Once you pick your table (There are many beautiful options to choose from), you scan the QR code to order your meal. Each order is automatically charged a 20% service fee; however, you are helped communally by many of the team members. We didn't have a problem with it. Our dinner in total was on the pricey side for me, but I will leave it up to debate whether the quality of food and experience backs the price. Our food arrived quickly. The crispy onigiri was my personal favorite. The ramen broth had a fantastic depth of flavor as well as the egg and carrots which were the ramen topping stars in our opinion. All in all, a great dinner combined with great service. We will return to try out their new autumn menu. Unfortunately there was a long hair fried into our onigiri. For the price, I would expect better quality control, but I also recognize human error exists. Would I order it again in the future? Sure would ;) read more

I was so excited to try this place finally but was left disappointed and ordered online for pick up. The ramen broth wasn't as good. The noodles were excellent, the broth almost taste a little bitter. There is not enough chicken; half an egg will cost you $1. The banana pudding was good but did not taste any miso, and the banana was starting to get brown. The auto 20% tip is included between the ramen and the dessert it'll cost you close to $40. I don't think its worth it. There are other ramen places that taste better. I don't think I'd come back and give this place a try was dissatisfied. This is some of the most authentic Ramen I have had in the US. Very rich and hearty broth, ample amounts of noodles, and a nice set of toppings including a nice fatty pork shoulder in the pork options (Tonkotsu and Hellfire, aka very spicy Tonkotsu). I would definitely recommend if you like Ramen, even more so if you like craft beer, as they are a full time "pop up" inside Bearded Iris in Sylvan supply now. Let's get the potential negatives out of the way real quick, as this is what I have seen some complaints on the place. 1. It is a separate business in Bearded Iris, so you end up with two bills: one for the food, one for the beer. 2. Ordering is online only. I find this pretty neat as you use your phone to order and pay and they deliver it. 3. A service charge is automatically added. This is to ensure the employees make something without you having to think about it, but it bothers some people, including one of my friends 4. No reservations. The place gets crowded. It was already somewhat popular as Bearded Iris, but Black Dynasty just ups the game a bit. 5. The menu is limited. Not a huge deal, but there are only a couple of types of Ramen on a given day, with specials on some days. When they are open, you should be able to check online and see what is available (order to go or grab a seat and order). 6. Other than a cucumber based salad, there are no vegetarian options. First time, I had the Hellfire. I find it very warm, but my friends will tell you I have the ability to handle a lot of heat. I would say for an average person it is quite hot. For the spice adverse, it is hellfire. As for the Ramen itself, it is wonderful. Second, I had the Tonkotsu, which is a fairly standard Ramen (the hellfire is based on this with a different tare (seasoning sauce) and a lot of peppers). Tonkotsu is on point as well. I added some pepper flakes to give it a bit more kick, but that rolls back to comments on hellfire. I have not tried the garlic bomb, but one of my friends thinks it is the best they have. It is Chintan (chicken) not Tonkotsu (pork). They have also added a Shoyu (soy sauce) Chintan since the first time I was there (and did a Turkey based Ramen during Thanksgiving time). Salad and a chicken appetizer round things out - have not tried either, so I can't review. For pairing options, if Bearded Iris still has the rice lager on tap, you should consider it with the Ramen, as it works very nicely. For Hellfire, you can go a bit more bold with one of their hoppier IPAs. TL;DR - Best Ramen in Nashville. Inside a great brewery, so there are some nice craft beer options. The Hellfire is hella hot (not too bad for me, but the rest of the crew was on fi-ya), tonkotsu very traditional. Also, chicken options if you are not into pork. Both of my thumbs are up. read more

First experience dining at Black Dynasty Ramen and thought the food was great. I ordered the Shrimp Gyoza and Hellfire ramen, would definitely recommend both if you like spicy food. Compared to Two Ten Jack, I would say the ramen is slightly better here (similar to another reviewer). Feedback: I think it would helpful if the service was a bit more like Bartaco (similar type of dining place), especially for people who are here for the first time. Would be great to have someone greet you at the door and then have servers come by with questions. Just don't understand the 20% tip with hardly any service besides delivering the food. It also would have been amazing to order beer from the table. I was dining alone so didn't really want to leave the table and wait at the bar. Just some ideas! read more

I Have had a ton of ramen all over North America and this stands out as one of the best I have ever had. I like the location and the crew. Everything there is delicious and made with love and PASSION! Keep it up chef. The beer tap room is a nice team up and the décor reminds me of the old BIBCO tap room and the beer is top notch. read more
My friend recommended Black Dynasty as one of the best ramen places in Nash, and I would have to wholeheartedly agree. Found hubbed inside the izakaya-esque Bar Sovereign, Black Dynasty feels a bit like a speakeasy with its pop-up nature: you don't quite know if you're in the right place at first. There's no clear sign on the vintage building on the outside, and the location feels like a secret only those in the know are privy too. The hush ambiance and amber lighting is half the appeal at Black Dynasty. The other half being, well, the flawless ramen, of course. I hear that Black Dynasty makes their noodles from scratch, and based on the amount of slurping I indulged in (it's only polite at a Japanese noodle establishment), it appears to be true. I ordered the Hellfire Tonkotsu, and the burning feeling was exactly what I wanted; it was an order that fought me back just enough while still leaving room for some flavor from the fall-apart-in-your-mouth stewed pork and pickled collards on the side. Are you drooling yet? If not, you may want to check out their dessert menu. Their rendition of banana pudding includes a matcha infusion which is just everything your lonely Co-vid heart desires. Make no mistake, this is some of the best ramen in the city. The staff is cool, collected, and kind. You will need to order at the ramen bar in the back and pick it up via cellphone PM. Staff will help clean your table once you're ready to leave. Parking is a bit of a pickle, so make sure you find a garage nearby; they can actually be cheaper than some of the flashy lots advertising "low" hourly prices. My one qualm would be their social distancing. In normal times and years, the cozy nooks Bar Sovereign offers would be splendid indeed. With the pandemic still in full swing, seating is limited despite the bars attempts at spacing out tables. We went early before a crowd set in, but I would still encourage ordering to go. One day, we will all be able to enjoy the truly fantastic izakaya atmosphere that Black Dynasty and Bar Sovereign have created. For now, stay safe with your loved ones and eat your Black Dynasty ramen in the sanctity of your home. read more
Loved the vibe. No frills, seat yourself, order at the bar, and enjoy. I made the mistake of ordering the Hellfire tonkotsu and when the menu says "hella spicy" they're not playing. It was honestly too spicy to even enjoy. I was half crying in between bites. The egg was the perfect consistency but the chashu was overcooked. 3/5 My boyfriend had the miso tonkotsu and this is one of the most flavorful broths I've tried in all of America. Incredible flavor and very rich, as tonkotsu should be. After he finished his, I poured his broth into my bowl to try to dilute the spice. This broth was *chef's kiss* 5/5 We tried a few cocktails as well which were interesting but I know that's a separate establishment so won't add that here. Overall would definitely come back for the miso tonkotsu. Prices are in the NY/LA ramen range though read more
