Yaki udon
Van H.

A great little hidden gem in a new development by the fairgrounds. We went on a Friday evening around 6:30 without a reservation and got a table fine. It's a nice place, not huge but a good size and a small patio. The service was friendly and food came out quickly. We got a couple of the appetizers: crispy rice tuna, shrimp and veggie tempura, and gyoza. I also got the Yaki udon noodles. It was a little on the sweet side for me but otherwise tasty and a good portion. It was all delicious and the prices were reasonable. They also offer an Omakase with reservations so I'll definitely be back for that! A great place to meet friends or date night. The parking lot is tiny though so you'll most likely have to use the paid lot across the street.

Great Night at Maru WeHo, food was amazing and service was great! Always love to order a ton of food at new restaurants, so my table got the edamame, Beef negimaki, Crispy Rice, ginger salad, chicken fried rice, Green Roll, Happy Roll, and the veggie delight Temaki! Everything we ordered was very tasty, came out fast and was worth the price. Our server was attentive and spaced out our food perfectly. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for Sushi in Nashville!

We have been to the Maru east location more than 10 times and love it for great quality sushi and friendly service but the atmosphere isn't the most special. We live close to Wedgewood so we were excited to try this location that recently opened, and it did not disappoint! Service was fantastic and the inside felt really upscale and had great vibes. The gyoza and Japanese fried chicken were both great albeit not mind blowing. The sushi was the star of the show which is the same for their location in east Nashville. The playboy and shrimp tempura we would happily order again! We are excited to come back and try more small plates and different sushi rolls soon. Great addition to the neighborhood.

7 piece chef's choice nigiri.

We tried Maru WeHo for the first time last night and will definitely go back. The fish was great, whether as sashimi, nigiri or maki. And the pricing made it a great value! Sushi Row may be fancier, but the food at Maru was of equal quality. You should give it a try.

Crispy Rice

5/5... this place is fresh, it's clean, it's classy and the owner Rita is customer oriented as it should be. It felt great to know the service industry is not dead. Let's start with the delicious food we got. We started with Crispy Rice. Wow, they were amazing. They have little gold flakes that make it look cute. The Tonkatsu ramen was very good. It was missing something in the flavor but it was still delicious. The sushi rolls were delicious and balanced. We honestly loved the place and definitely will come back. They do offer lunch specials we will be checking out soon!

So glad another location opened up. Cannot say enough good things about Maru! The food is always fresh and delicious and the service is always quick. Love the vibes of this location! Definitely feels more elevated than the other locations. Can't wait to go back!

So happy we paid a visit to the newest addition to the Maru restaurant family. Ambiance was relaxing, service was great, and food did not disappoint. Amazing night of sushi. Sushi sampler was beautiful as well as incredible. I highly ecommend spicy scallops and the crispy rice.

Hot Night

I had the best sushi lunch date here! I ordered the Salmon roll and Captains Secret! The captain secret might be the best sushi I've had in my life. The ingredients were so fresh and the roll was flavorful. My husband had the hot night roll as well as a roll that had scallops on top. The Hot night roll was our fav of the two. Drink wise, the espresso martini, grapefruit soju and the lemon drop martini were all phenomenal! The service was great and our waiter was attentive and helpful. The restaurant was clean, neat and pretty empty for a Friday lunch. Anytime I am here I will come back!

Josh and Rita were amazing! There were so many amazing options, and they gave great recommendations. We will be back soon!

Albacore sushi roll, bok choy, white rice
Austin O.

I ordered takeout and overall had a solid experience. The albacore roll was the highlight -- really flavorful and fresh. The rice portion felt a bit small (I'd have liked a little more to balance things). The bok choy side was decent -- not huge, but just right as a complement. Prices were moderate -- nothing outrageous. I'd definitely go back to try more from the menu.

Beef kushiyaki or yakitori style Bland, not enough flavor, meat was tough and chewy

I was really excited to try this place. Visiting from California for a few weeks and I took a gamble with a 5star with only 2 reviews, but I'm a sushi connoisseur and a risk taker. The ambience was nice, newer modern feel in an upcoming east Nashville area. The place was relatively empty, a man at the bar, a girl at the other ends and two hotties having dinner at a table. Not a good sign. I sat at a table my back to a bench seat. Service was fast and cordial. My server a young man with a great attitude but a little green. First up, I order some yellowtail carpaccio, the young man advises of a special item, baby yellowtail in a ginger ponzu sauce, I am glad he did, because it was to die for. I'd come back just for that dish. See pic. I also ordered some chicken and some yakitori, some different nigiri and a roll. Now at this point you may ask, White, if it was soo good why 3 stars? Good question. I ordered my go to faves, nigiri of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. I also ordered the Baja roll just to have some filler and something with spice. I was expecting The nigiri to be fresh cuts of fish on top of sushi rice, however they came with different sauces, toppings and even seared with mayo on top. I asked the young man, why it was served like that and his response was the chef likes to give it to you with different options as he likes. I was not happy, I love just the fish and may some slight soy or a little wasabi but this way no good and it was ruined. Unfortunately the young man forgot to place my chicken yakitori order so I never got it and I was looking forward to trying it. I asked the young man how long they have been opened he said 1 month. I kindly shared some feedback about the food and let him know they will need to do better if they expect repeat customers and to stand out in a very foodie city like Nashville. The fact that the kid didn't even offer to take some of items off the bill or maybe a dessert tells me they still haven't learned the most important lesson in restauranting, happy customers, make repeat customers. This place has a lot of work to do but I would say give them a try and let's see if my experience was an anomaly and I was just an unfortunate victim of new growing pains. Happy to take one for the team. Happy noshing Nashville

The service was outstanding. The sushi was SO good and fresh. My boyfriend said the chicken fried rice was the best he's ever had. We had the chicken karage and thigh skewers as well, they were eaten before I could snap a pic lol.

You get a little nervous going to a new one in a differet city Nashville did not disappoint. The staff was awesome. As in NYC we sat at the kitchen counter. It you're a foodie what take away from sitting there is how fresh everything is made. Ashley watched every plate coming out of the kitchen- as did Marcus, im a chef and restaurant owner this is a pro move. And the food showed it. This is not fine dining- great service and food. Maleya was great. She would be a great trainer for new staff. Nate stopped by and welcomed us. Every staff member Nashville and NYC are longtime employees that we met, and all like working there. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the food had potential, but the overall experience wasnot great. Food-We started with the bacon-wrapped dates, which were delicious with a nice balance of salty, savory, and sweet. The potatoes were also really good--crispy and served with a flavorful aioli. The ham croquettes were decent, but a little heavy, and I wish they had more meat. Service & Wait Time The biggest issue was the long wait for the vegetable paella. We waited about 45 minutes, and by the time it arrived, I was too hungry to even take a picture. I also wish the food had come out closer together instead of having such a long gap between dishes. To their credit, the paella was comped because of the wait. Also as big as the restaurant they put a group of 8 people where there are boots for couples which made it impossible to hear my partner. Cleanliness/cockroach Unfortunately, we also saw a cockroach during our visit, which made it difficult to feel comfortable and fully enjoy the meal. It was crawling by the seat on the bench. Parking Tip-If you visit, make sure to ask about the 2-hour parking validation before you leave. Since the paella took so long, the timing felt tight with the validation window. Final Thoughts-While there were a few dishes we enjoyed, the long wait and cleanliness concern really affected the overall experience. I'm not sure I would recommend this restaurant or comeback.

Despite the hotel setting, it feels a bit more 'for the locals' than lower Broad does these days. So whether you are entertaining out of town guests or want to have drinks Downtown, this just might be the spot you're looking for. I had something to celebrate and I wanted to do so in style. It was mid-spring and the weather was perfect so I wanted to take advantage of the short window. I took a ride share to the hotel bc ain't no one got time for Downtown parking rates and bee-lined it to the Lou/Na elevator at the back of the lobby. Once I hit the rooftop, my Friday night began. The atmosphere is every bit as dark, moody (in a good way) and smartly-illuminated as expected. Since I was here for views and good weather, I asked the hostess for an outdoor table. She obliged and I was soon perched along the edge of the roof, staring into the twinkling lights of our ever-expanding skyline. It was well-past the dinner hour and I was craving something sweet. After chatting with my helpful server, I decided on the creme brulee and an espresso martini. Both were excellent. The brulee had a perfect crust and delectable custard that paired well with the martini that veered closer to dry than sweet. I appreciated that. It showed effort went into making the cocktail. I was in my own head so I minded my business and didn't do too much people watching. Despite the time of year and good weather, the roof wasn't too packed. It wasn't empty but it wasn't bustling. That was fine by me but I'm sure the management would disagree. I would point out that Lou/Na has gotten even more popular since when I visited so I'm confident that the crowd on good weather nights has increased. If that's your thing, head over on a Friday. If not, check it out during the week. But if well-made cocktails in a beautiful environment outside the madness of Lower Broad but still Downtown is on your radar, you know where you need to go and what to do. Lou/Na should be in your rotation.

We visited MI Kitchen in Franklin with absolutely zero expectations, and it ended up being one of…read morethe best dining experiences we've had in a while. From the food to the service, everything exceeded our expectations. The first thing that stood out was their small plate concept, and I absolutely loved it. I enjoy trying a variety of dishes instead of committing to just one entrée, and this concept is something I wish more restaurants would adopt. We ended up trying almost half the menu and loved nearly every dish. A huge shout-out to our server, Nestor. He welcomed us warmly, was cheerful throughout the evening, and his recommendations were spot on. He truly made the dinner even more enjoyable. We started with a couple of mocktails, and the Purple Haze was refreshing and delicious. Here are some of our favorites: MI Cucumber - Smashed cucumber with soy dressing, crunchy chili oil, and cilantro. Simple, refreshing, and packed with flavor. Plantain - Fried plantains topped with sriracha goat cheese, cilantro, and crunchy gremolata. The sriracha goat cheese paired perfectly with the sweet plantains. K-Pop Chicken - Korean sweet and spicy popcorn chicken with great flavor and a perfect balance of sweetness and heat. Dumplings - Homemade steamed dumplings with edamame, truffle, yuzu ponzu, and garlic confit. I really enjoyed the truffle flavor, though it may not be for everyone. Kimchi Bacon Risotto - Caramelized kimchi, applewood smoked bacon, tomato, and shrimp. One of the best dishes of the night--perfectly cooked with incredible flavor. Crispy Spicy Tuna - Spicy mayo tuna served over crispy rice. This was one of the highlights of the meal. The crispy rice was absolutely perfect. Cauliflower Taco - Crispy cauliflower with guacamole, creamy miso, and tsiran spice. The filling was flavorful, and the cauliflower was cooked perfectly. Lamb Chops - This was the only dish that felt average. The lamb was cooked well, but it was missing a bit of flavor. A little more seasoning, especially some salt, would have really elevated the dish. To finish the meal, we had the Banana Pudding with Vanilla Gelato, which was a delicious and satisfying way to end dinner. Overall, MI Kitchen completely exceeded our expectations. Amazing food, a fun small-plate concept, and outstanding service from Nestor made this a memorable experience. We'll definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu!

The spring roll was delicious too, full of flavor with just the right amount of spice. And the tacos... you cannot skip them. The beef tacos are incredible, and the cauliflower tacos are just as good. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. There were some things that stood out, but most that did not. I welcome comments on what I should focus on for a future trip, as I am always willing to go from "this is average" to "this is outstanding" if I just did not hit the right notes. Tl;DR - Dessert was the star of the show This came recommended by a guy I recommended Kosho to. He came back with a glowing review of Kosho, so I figured his recommendation of Tantisimo as the best restaurant in Nashville might stick. Perhaps I should add this up to a night that was not hitting on all cylinders? Or perhaps our taste buds were not in line with the crowd here. As such, I find this average with some high notes. Yes, I know most people consider 3 stars to be bad, but to me it was just average. YMMV This was a last minute decision and I was able to find a spot in their parking lot when I drove up. This is a kind of luck I seem to have, but would gladly give up for winning a huge lottery. LOL. Seemed like a great sign. Coming in, the place is small, but definitely builds up the vibe they are going for, which is like a small, upscale cantina. Kudos. Nicely bound cocktail, beer, wine, and liquor list. Kudos. Trisha greeted and was able to lead us to drinks. Kudos again. I got the Much Fashioned, which was like a Latin old fashioned, which uses Belle Meade bourbon, piloncillo, and aztec bitters. Very nicely done cocktail. As it was later, we went more with smaller plates: bolillo bread, pan de bueno, yuca encebollada, crudo, and shrimp skewers. The pan de bueno was a bit like Brazilian Pão de Queijo only less cheesy in execution. The Bolillo bread was more interesting with the chorizo butter. The star of the starches was the yuca encebollada with mushrooms and scallions. The Yellowfin crudo was interesting with the strawberry, which added a nice touch. The fried planatin strips added a nice visual. The shrimp were overly salty and a bit overcooked. We ended with dessert. The CU|FLan was excellent. And extremely well executed flan. I got the carjillo, which reminded me a bit of an espresso with a nice hint of vanilla. I would go back for dessert and drinks, for sure. I am torn on the meal and would love to have any recommendations of what items I did not have I should consider on a future trip.
