An inconsistent dining experience in a beautiful space with some standout dishes. Service was surprisingly bumpy here right off the bat. We didn't see our server for a while after being seated with a reservation. There were long stretches once we did order with no check in. Eventually we said something to management who assigned a new server. Nigiri was good. Nothing exceptional. The fish collar was outstanding and a good portion. The cashew crispy rice salad was good, but the crispy rice was not edible until it softened with the dressing. Flavor and textures otherwise worked together for a fresh and zingy taste. The lettuce wraps were very tasty, but the garnish was hard to manage with the long strings. We headed to the soft serve line after our meal in the main space, and the Ube dipped cone was a favorite there. They have a few things to work out here especially at the price point, but we made the best of the evening and we're grateful for the management stepping in.
Re-reviewing for soft-serve window specifically! Came back on a busy Thursday evening and tried the black cherry (or maybe it was raspberry, I don't remember exactly) with chocolate dip. The cup portion is wayyyy bigger than the cone portion and they do a good job getting chocolate dip all throughout. In my opinion, skip the matcha cone and get the fruity soft serve with chocolate dip!
I'm a big fan of the ice cream walk up window, while the ice cream is pricier than most you really do get a quality product. The loveless cafe collab had a Hokkaido milk ice cream that was undoubtedly the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had. They also keep the line moving quickly considering how many people they serve. I heard nothing but rave reviews about Sushi San and was excited to finally try it. It's one of my partner's favorite restaurants in Nashville, so I was looking forward to celebrating her birthday there. Unfortunately, despite the excellent food, I was disappointed by the service we received. I made a reservation for 7 p.m. on Monday, October 5, and we arrived about 10 minutes early. I did not expect to be seated immediately, but after waiting 10 minutes past our reservation time and watching several parties (with the same 7 p.m. reservation) who arrived later than us be seated before us, I was confused about the delay. The waiting area wasn't really an area at all, but a hallway into the restaurant where 10+ people were crowded together. It was loud, hot, and uncomfortable, which was not a great way to be welcomed into a relatively upscale restaurant. Our server (I think her name was Kate, though I'm not for sure) was not particularly welcoming or attentive and at times bordered on rude. I initially didn't mind the slow service because the restaurant was clearly busy for a Monday night. I also tried not to mind that we hardly saw our server the entire time. However, we waited about 20 minutes for our drinks--the Thank You Enjoy No. 6 and a draft Asahi-- and up to 25 minutes for our food. I didn't expect our server to acknowledge my partner's birthday just because it was noted in the OpenTable reservation, but I was disappointed by how the situation was handled. Our server eventually came by and asked, "Do you want a birthday dessert?" without previously acknowledging that it was her birthday. The whole situation just felt transactional rather than celebratory. When the dessert arrived, it came without spoons. It took us several minutes to find an employee who could help us, and by that point most of the ice cream had melted. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. I have nothing but positive things to say about the taste and presentation of everything we ordered. The miso brownie, despite the melted ice cream, was one of the best desserts I've ever had. If you can overlook the service issues, the food itself is absolutely worth the hype. Overall, though, I can't imagine myself dining at Sushi San again. The food was excellent, but the service made what should have been a special birthday dinner unnecessarily frustrating.

Tried the bluefin tuna + avocado roll, kabayaki eel & tempura shrimp. Fantastic rolls and filling. Was most impressed by the eel roll and how fresh & flavorful it was! Loved the texture too as the eel was battered & fried. Also love that I can order half rolls to try more out :) Would highly recommend making a reservation as it was busy with a line out the door at 7 pm on a Friday night. Be prepared for a fun vibe, but loud music/acoustics making it hard to have conversation across the table. Server was friendly but service was slow. Took more than 15 mins to get our drinks to the table and almost 30 for appetizers.
Everything on the menu is amazing. You can't go wrong with anything you order. My husband and I usually order a San-Set to split plus a few appetizers and we are always so full. The cocktails are so unique and fun and I love that they change seasonally. Great reason to go back. The staff are so friendly and very fast. One time we went with a large group of 11 friends and everything went so smoothly. As a note, they won't seat you as a group unless everyone is there.
Sushi San has been the go to place to dine at in 12 South for awhile now & I can see why. The ambiance is killer, the service doesn't miss, & the food is delicious. I came here with a group of 11 foodies & we sampled a wide variety of the menu & drinks. Everything was really good & our server took amazing care of both of our tables. I have to say the bang bang cauliflower definitely surprised me the most & was the dish that i found myself wanting a few days later, but everything was good. Just wish i had taken photos of it all!
This is my first time coming to sushi san I went for my birthday with my sister. We sat at the sushi counter. We had such an amazing experience. The sushi chefs handed you the fresh hand rolls and Nigiri fresh. Chef Ti was so amazing and kind to us and made our birthday so special. We will definitely be back it was a fun experience and cool to see the chefs make all the rolls infront of us. Also loved the lighting would be a great date night as well.
Had to try out their ice cream window because I LOVE a dipped ice cream cone, it's so nostalgic. Their elevated take on dipped cones made me so excited, having dips like matcha and ube and soft serve flavors like Hokkaido vanilla and Okinawa chocolate. I got the vanilla with ube dip and wow was it SOOO YUMMY. The soft serve was not super sweet and it balanced well with the sweet dip. I also got to try the chocolate with matcha dip and loved that as well. The chocolate ice cream shocked me because it had such a rich deep chocolate flavor, unlike other chocolate soft serves I've had.
I got in here afer finding it on a secret shopper app. It is a corporate spot, originating in Chicago, but the concept is solid. The only sushi I have had recently that topped this was Kase x Noko, which is almost impossible to get in. The service was on top. On top of our server, Sannah, David Chen dropped soemthing off and we had a couple of minutes to talk about foodie spots and compare notes. It is nice when you find a restaurant in which the entire staff is focused on all of the guests. The spot is part of the Lettuce Eats Rewards Program, which works with Aba, as well. If you frequent these restaurants, be sure to join. The first thing to note is this place is extremely popular. We were in late during the week and the bar was jam-packed and every outside seat was taken. They also have a pick up window outside that had a line about 25 feet long. Yes, this is 12 South, so expected. The styling is modern. If there is a negative, it was that the hostess told us the sushi bar was full when it obviously wasn't. They may have had it closed down at that point? I usually prefer a seat at the sushi bar. The cocktails are great. The Old Fashiopned is done with a barrel pick of Maker's Mark and some Japanese whisky. Very smooth old fashioned. The supernova is a sweet drink, but not coyingly so. She said it was the best cocktail she has had in Nashville in quite some time. High marks. Food? I started with the miso soup. I can tell they use miso and not the miso packets by the flavor. As someone who loves to get miso at the Asian market, the packets just don't hold it for me. Her seaweed salad was also nice. Of course, both of these are fairly pedestrian and the star is the sushi. I did the nigiri san set. Freshness of the fish was A one. Flavor was top notch. Enjoyed the artistry of the plate as well. I did have to sub out the scallop, as I have an intolerance, but teh fish was on point. She loved the roll, which I could not eat as it contained some shrimp (allergy on this one :-( ). The desserts were both excellent. I ended up eating all of the ice cream and part of the brownie, with a bit left for home. She had the butter cake. Good, but not my favorite. The whipped cream, however, was wonderful and whipped to very stiff peaks (almost to butter). I dropped a copy of the receipt in the picture, as well as the entire menu (June 2026), so you can see the pricing. This is higher end, for sure, but I would return if I can't get a seat at Kase.
I lovedddd this place! Sushi San is a gem. The basil rice was absolutely incredible (I'll go back just for that) and the waitress said the Wagyu rice was even better. The drinks came in cute Chinese to-go boxes which added to the fun for our birthday night out. The caramel butter cake was phenomenal, we have all been dying to go back and eat it again. The ambience is lively and fun but cozy and not too loud. Our servers were so kind and communicative! 5 all around.

I went here a few weeks ago with my sister for her birthday and I would say it was 10/10. Product itself: we ordered so much food I don't remember the names of the plates, but everything was so fresh and delicious. I remember that if the plate said spicy it actually did have a spice to it which I loved. However, the spicy tuna had an overwhelming cilantro flavor to where I couldn't really taste the tuna itself. The spicy seared scallops are very creamy so if you want something more fresh or traditional just beware (it's still good though, just a lot of the cream base). The ice cream!? Insane. Any dish with ice cream is amazing. We got the miso caramel cake? RECOMMEND 100%. Customer service: our server was David and I have to say he had a great balance of professional and relatable. Everything he recommended was delicious and he checked on us just the right about of times. Value: I can't remember how much this meal cost, I know it is on the pricier side, but we were stuffed by the end. You are paying for the experience, fresh fish, service, and the ambiance of the restaurant which I felt were all VERY worth it. Atmosphere: the restaurant was clean, every worker was friendly even the sushi chefs who kindly let me film them cutting fish. It was exactly what you see online and expect, clean and cute! Overall experience: I really enjoyed everything and the staff were all very nice. My favorite part was the freshness of the fish considering it is in Nashville and the ice cream they make themselves! read more

I always see influencers posting about this restaurant and finally decided to check it out. We were disappointed on the food and did not understand the hype around this restaurant. From the start the host took a while to seat us and made it seem like our dinner had to be rushed. We ordered 2 plates of sushi and left to go eat somewhere else. The crispy rice spicy tuna we ordered was an interesting color and not as great as other restaurants. Our server also gave us weird vibes and we just did not enjoy our dinner here as we thought we would. The best thing we had was the matcha dipped ice cream cone. read more

Been here multiple times and the options are always good! It does feel a bit sweet but the vanilla is always great as a base. They have rotating seasonal option. Service is at the window beside the restaurant. Solid 9.2/10! read more
This place is elevated sushi and dining! The restaurant is beautiful and service feels professional, friendly, informative and not at all stuffy. My server David was fantastic! I was dining solo on a work trip. I felt totally comfortable here between the restaurant set up and friendly service. I ordered 3 items, the first was the salmon avocado roll with asparagus and meyer lemon in it, which was different. For me those didn't necessarily add, but the salmon was so fresh and delicious. Then, I had the crispy bbq eel roll. Lastly, I had the hand roll special of the day, which was blue crab. The server explained why they do the hand rolls more like a rectangle vs a cone for ease of eating and experience. Overall, it was an excellent roll. The seaweed wrapper had perfect flavor and crisp and normally that serves just function for me, but here it was more than that! This is definitely not inexpensive, but it feels like the higher prices are matched with quality. It's in the heart of a nice upscale shopping area. They have a 50% parking discount for underground lot, which is good because that is $$$. Since I was traveling for work, I really could've chosen anything and loved this! This place is a vibe. They were playing 90s hip hop which was a great change from the country vibe that is sooo prevalent in Nashville. The decor was crazy cool like such a cute spot for a date. They have patio seating and the venue has lots of seating. It was not crowded which was great since the street was ridiculously crowded. The sushi was super fresh and delicious and reasonably priced which was very surprising. The servers were so nice and they gave you your food. Nice little presentation. The bar stools were even lovely to sit on. I really enjoyed this place. read more
Sushi San has a great vibe. The space is open and lively. The music is fun. The waiters are lovely. However, the food is the star. I've been twice now and everything I've had has been good. It's consistently good, which is the best thing any restaurant can be. My favorites to recommend would be the pan fried gyoza, beef and bop bowl and eel roll. Overall: Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and had such a great time! Thank you Sushi-San and shout out to Kevin for getting us seated together! I got the nigiri set and the DUCK fried rice (I love duck), and they did it so well! Also, their little soft-serve window is so cute! I got the Okinawa boba "San-dae" and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was! I don't get to encounter too many Asian flavors in Nash, I appreciate that they have ube and matcha dips for the soft-serve cones too! Service: Really kind staff and quick to get everything out! Ambience: So cute and pretty inside, a uniquely Japanese inspired decor and more of a classy vibe inside. read more

For a sushi place in Nashville, this place delivers! We did a last minute walk in on. a weekday and they were able to seat us ASAP. The ambiance was lovely and intimate. They have both indoor and outdoor seating as well. We ended up being pretty hungry so we ordered 15 handrolls to share and for $29 for 5 handrolls, the deal was worth it. The fish was fresh and the rice was cooked perfectly. Def recommend if you're in the mood for some sushi! read more
I came here based on the recommendation of a colleague. I stopped in about 4pm on a Sunday afternoon thinking I would beat the crowds. Boy, was I wrong. This neighborhood has a ton of shops so it was busy. I came in and sat at the bar since it was just me. The bartenders will not make eye contact with you until they are ready to speak to you and that can take anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes. From what I could tell, the cocktail I ordered was not on the menu. I think it was called the "Thank you for coming." I was intrigued because the person beside me had one. It is a spicy margarita that comes in a classic Chinese food to-go container. It was really cool and the drink was pretty good. For food, I got the chili crunch cucumber and the spicy tuna roll. The chili crunch cucumber is listed under salads but it is just a cucumber in chili oil. The tuna roll was very good. Overall, I felt the price was steep in terms of quality of food, quantity of food, and quality of service. read more

Just moved back from Chicago and was pleasantly surprised to find they opened a Sushi San in Nashville. The soft serve window was a nice touch for this location. The food was delicious and service was quick and efficient. Will be back, 10/10. read more
We got the sushi tacos, nigiri, and crispy rice sushi. They were all very good and the fish was fresh and delicious. The entree we got, duck crispy rice, was good but a little too sweet for us. It overpowered the dish and we wish the duck had had some crispy bits. The bottom of the rice was a little on the burnt side as well. They also have an ice cream takeout window which was cute. Got the strawberry matcha soft serve and it was also way too sweet. Thought the strawberries would be fresh and macha would offset the ice cream but no. But overall it was a nice place. We were seated outside on the patio which was covered so you don't get too hot in the sun. The service was friendly and food came out pretty fast. read more

Wow... I will come back and back and back and recommend too! Food is so delicious and sooo fresh. That tuna, melted in my mouth. That salmon melted in my mouth... the cauliflower was delicious and the hand rolls were satisfying. I would suggest a bit less sauce so the fish doesn't get lost on the roll and the cauliflower but other than that the taste was great. The service was great and the atmosphere of the outside was perfect with a little bit of sun and shade. They offer 50% off parking so make sure you get the QR to redeem it. Definitely worth the trip, come check them out!!! read more
This is just a review for their soft serve window. We came here on a Wednesday night and it was bumping at 7:30 with a short line waiting for ice cream. They offer vanilla, chocolate, and dole whip and can swirl the vanilla/chocolate. Then you have the option to dip it in chocolate, strawberry, or matcha. We tried a swirl dipped in chocolate and a chocolate dipped in matcha. Both were fantastic but I think I'd get the matcha next time as it had a salty kick to it. A fun and cheap date night for those with kids or who want a sweet treat after eating nearby. read more

Sushi San is one of my go-to spots for a night out, and I even chose it for my birthday dinner(that's how much I love it). Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to my usual experiences. When we sat down, we noticed quite a few gnats/fruit flies around our table. Came here with my Dad and my sister for the first time. Sushi San has been on the list of restaurants to try for a while, and let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. We appetizers we ordered: 1) Tagarashi Chicken Nuggets, which was recommended by our waiter 2) Crisy Rice - Spicy Tuna For our entree my sister and I shared: 1) Kabayaki Eel 2) Spicy Salmon 3) Beef 'N Bop Sizzlin Rice My dad ordered the Peking Duck Sizzling Rice. Everything was really good! I would have not ordered the nuggets but our waiter said he was one of his favorite things on the menu and it was delicious! Very flavorful. All the sushi we order was fresh and soo yummy! The winners by far was both Sizzling Rice dishes. So much flavor. Loved the service we received and the ambience. Would be great to come back for a date night. Loved the music choices that was playing as well. It's a fun environment. I can't wait to come back. 10/10, totally recommend!! read more
Got a few rolls not pictured, the rolls were good. Not the best I've had or superior to other spots but they were solid. Didnt love the crispy rice. However the cashew salad is 10/10! The vibe inside is dim and really nice, but it's LOUD AS HELL, like loud enough to make it hard to hold a conversation with the people at the table. Service was great & attentive for the most part. I went to this place by myself while on a work trip and sat at the bar. It was friendly and I was able to vibe alone to the loud music. The sushi was some of the best I've had! Fresh and flavorful. read more

Stopped by the ice cream window for a soft serve. I went with the pineapple dole whip covered in chocolate in a cone. I was a bit disappointed how long it took to place my order as there was no line but the employee working at the window took about 5 minutes to register I was there despite popping my head into smile a few times. I took my cone to go as it was a sunny warm day and I thought the perfect day to walk around 12 south with some ice cream...There was plenty of outdoor seating but it was already almost full at 12pm on a Friday. First lick the chocolate was nice and dark- it wasn't the crunchy shell I was expecting but soft- big warning to ask for your cone in a cup or just get the cup if it's a warm day..my cone began to melt about 3 steps into my walk and ended up melting all over the sidewalk and my hands/arms..but it was delicious!! Such a yummy menu and cool Japanese ambiance. We started off sharing a bunch of appetizers. The edamame had a sweet spicy powder which I never experienced before. The Gyoza were standard. The main event was the Crunchy chili cucumbers! Sadly it seems the kitchen forgot those so they came out with our meals. Do not skip on these! So worth the wait. We each tried a different roll, I liked the Bluefin Tuna Avocado the best. The tuna was creamy and the crispy seaweed added texture. I also tried the hand roll, I would skip it for next time. Nothing too special and it was forgotten by the kitchen as well. Lastly the ice cream outside was yummy! I tried the pineapple ice cream with chocolate sauce and the strawberry matcha vanilla sundae. This place has so many options. Make a reservation early! It's Nashville's next top spot. read more
