There's a lot to like about Pushing Daises. It has a nice dark speakeasy vibe in a basement environment. Staff here is very nice and are keen on helping you order the right drink. There was no live music available at the time, but they did have a DJ which I thought was spinning the turntable rather well. It's my bad that I didn't also catch on that his is basically a Tequila Bar, rather than a more general craft cocktail establishment. Judging by the well stocked bar and the word of our waitress, other alcohol and their associated craft creations are available, but it's pretty much off menu and not well into our waitress' repertoire. And yes, Cinco de Mayo was just a few days away. One member of our party just wanted a soft drink, which was not possible that night as their CO2 was down. That did make me wonder whether the non-alcohol drinkers had much to chose from here. I suppose we could have then wandered over to the Redemption Bar at Chief's? Anyway, we're not Tequila Drinkers, and since other drink options appeared to be guesswork, we left towards more traditional mixed drinks (and live music) at a nearby Printers Alley bar. We came here around 7 pm on a Saturday night and were alerted that pushing daisies had a private party and they would open at 8 pm. We went next door to Blanco for a small bite while we waited, but the staff let us know that we could skip the line with a reservation if we choose to do so. You walk in from Broadway, but have to go down several sets of stairs to get inside the club. The seating is comfortable and plentiful. The space isn't massive, but it is accommodating and larger than I anticipated. We had a great waitress and really enjoyed the dj that was there. The cocktails were excellent too. We tried multiple and each were good. I got the devils vice and it was great. I also ordered the strawberry kiwi smash. I prefer the devils vice over the strawberry, but I can see both being popular. My go-to place to take my friends when they are visiting and want a taste of Broadway. The vibe is so moody and intimate. Feels like a speakeasy once you start walking underneath Broadway, away from the noise and chaos of the average honky tonk bar. The drinks are absolutely amazing. It is a tequila bar and the flavor profiles of the drinks are really great. I typically get a mocktail, but I had the opportunity to taste the Mango Stand and it was delightful. I am admittedly NOT a downtown Broadway girlie and do my best to avoid it like the plague. The one way my friends know to entice me out? Promise we will meet up for drinks at Pushing Daisies. Located on Broadway, essentially underneath Assembly Food Hall, Pushing Daisies is a vibey, spacious, speakeasy ambiance. You can make reservations online or wait in line to get in (I never wait for longer than a few minutes.) On a recent Friday evening, we had to pay a $5 cover per person that went to charity, which was a first. The space is humongous but on a weekend night can really fill up and be quite loud, so warning if you're in a large group, you're unlikely to hear each other. I am usually able to snag a table if I arrive on the early side; the bar gets packed more quickly than the tables do and tables have faster service when it's particularly busy, in my opinion. The menu is tequila-forward ("Daisies" in the name being a translation of margarita + playing on the slang for being six feet under, since this is an underground spot.) These are truly craft cocktails to impress anyone and I love bringing out of towners here before they start a night going down Broadway. There are light food items (chips, queso, churros, tacos), but not enough to actually make a real meal. My favorite drinks are always plays on traditional drinks, but using tequila in place of the original spirit; the smoky, smooth old fashioned family Christmas cocktail is a great example of that! They also just do some really classic cocktails with their own subtle twist: a chocolatey El Carajillo they had last year was downright addictive. Overall this is a really fun spot to start or end your downtown evening (for the 21 and up crowd.) My one main gripe is the noise level, but it's easily rectified by coming on the early side. No easy parking in this area but if you're willing to pay a for convenience, the Assembly Garage is right next door to this spot. read more

My friend wanted to come try the "matcha" drink here that they stop making after 10pm because of how popular and labor-intensive it is. We arrived around 8pm. There was no line at the entrance or at the bar, so we got served very quickly. The vibes are amazing and the DJ played some great nostalgic tunes! It would be fun to stay longer and pregame Broadway with a bigger group of friends, too. The highball cocktail itself reminded me of a tiki drink, which aren't my favorites usually. Probably my favorite speakeasy on Broadway. It's just SO PRETTY and I'm obsessed with the bar and the fabulous cocktails. The bartenders always nail it, no matter what you order. I've tried multiple cocktails - both on and off menu - and loved every one. The spark plug espresso martini shot is unique and just unbelievably good. I think one night our big party did 3 of them. It's just the best! Sometimes there's a DJ or music, and the hours here are a little weird (sometimes they close way earlier than I'd expect, like 10p) and we have to find another spot to hang after. Overall, it's a really cool place and usually there isn't too bad of a wait to get in. Crowds here are also hit or miss depending on the day/time/events & happenings. The taste - it was much sweeter than I anticipated, make sure you enjoy some sugar. The Strawberry Kiwi Smash - so juicy and yummy, exactly what you'd imagine, comes with fresh fruit pieces. Would be an easy one to drink a lot of!!! The only downside (which is to be anticipated and totally understandable) is that the portion sizes didn't quite match the price point. With the added downtown liquor tax and tip, you are essentially paying double what you'd spend on drinks anywhere but downtown broadway. Be ready and know you're paying for the location and atmosphere. A solid spot for a one-time experience as locals, but won't be a regular go-to for us. read more

My only issue was with the service; we called ahead to put our name in for a table (as they don't take reservations) but once we arrived, we were denied a table because we weren't informed that a table came with a (high) spending minimum. Between being denied a table & waiting at least 30 minutes for our first round of drinks, my experience was a little bit frustrating. One came up and set two waters for us next to me. I had to reach over and get them and hand one to my husband. It was weird she wouldn't set them in front of us. After a few minutes of not being asked to order, we asked the one bartender working if he was the only person making drinks. He turned around and told the trio to help us. The same woman who gave us the waters came over, didn't greet us, and coldly asked us what we wanted to order. We gave her our order, she made the drinks, gave us the tab, and then immediately walked away to go back and talk. It was so uncomfortable I wanted to leave. Thankfully, we ended up meeting Will. I was born and raised in middle Tennessee, so I know the vast selection of music this area has to offer and it is MUSIC CITY, after all not country city. A large group of friends came from out of town for the holiday. 7/4. Out of 10 people , one person was denied entry for "dress code", while multiple people walked out of the same place with the same exact attire on. The General manager was beyond degrading and disrespectful when trying to question the actual issue. She even acknowledged that multiple people were walking out with the same shorts on and still denied entry of one of our friends without actual reason. The people leaving the place in this exact attire were very much non colored and one of the other managers even stated "well it looks better . Neither manager took accountability for their blatant prejudices and discriminations. I wouldn't recommend spending time or money in a place that' treats humans in this way. I want to give this place five stars but I just can't. I will start off by saying it's really cute. The DJ played good music. The bartenders drinks were great and we were getting amazing service until the manager, Megan, ruined our experience. She was very rude and condescending towards her staff in front of us. I went there with a group of six friends two weeks ago. We were having a great time. We ordered plenty of drinks and food from our server; however we did not want bottle service because we were all drinking different types of alcohol. After ordering so much from our server, she sat us at a table that she believed was not reserved. We just placed an order for another round of food and drinks. Megan walks over to the table we were seated at and yelled at the server, in front of us, for sitting us there. I was humiliated for the server. I've been a supervisor for many years and know from management 101, you do not treat your staff in such way. I believe your company needs more managerial training to prevent situations like this from occurring. I really hate leaving reviews like this but believe this should be addressed. Personally I'm someone who can only take so much country (I know wrong place to visit) and this place not offered great cocktails and vibes but the music was some amazing early 2000s remixes. When I came in I had on slides and the lady at the front mentioned they don't allow open toe shoes typically but she would make an exception only for me to get in the bar and 90% of the women had on slides or some type of open toe shoes.
