Where do we start?! We just moved here from the SF Bay Area which has amazing sushi and was looking for a great Southern Oregon sushi spot. We came here and won't need to go anywhere else. Sofia was super sweet and attentive to us throughout our entire meal. The sushi was phenomenal. The super white tuna was so buttery. We also had the agi-dashi tofu. Make sure you request the ponzu sauce cause it was so good we ate the cabbage that came with the tofu by dipping it in the sauce lol. We got the Mount Ashland which had the cutest presentation. I attached photos. If you're looking for great sushi in the valley come to Umami. Take it from a couple Bay Area transplants that it's THAT good :) read more

Dinner wasn't horrible. We got takeout. The Japanese curry tasted like Thai curry. The pad thai was slightly off (didn't use the normal rice stick noodles). Taste was a bit off too. The avocado sushi was fresh. The chicken teriyaki was not bad. read more

Just went in for lunch passing by on the 5. Just a daily special tempura crab, mango and salmon roll. Very good roll though. Had the Japanese soda my daughter loves! And the gross crèche was roll she always gets. Definitely want to back and get the Ramon, look legit! I'm giving is a 4 but understand usually I got to Arcata for sushi and all the places there are trash lol. read more

Excellent! We had a fantastic meal at Umami. In fact, some of the best sushi I've ever had! The Salt and Pepper Calamari is the best I've ever had. The Crunchy Tiger Hidden Dragon Roll is awesome and so is the Hawaiian roll. Our server Rochana was absolutely amazing and she is a wealth of knowledge about sushi - and Ashland. We can't wait to come back! read more

Heard about this place from my neighbor's friend and thought we should check it out since she says the pho is really good. We got there and lots of seating. Not too crowded since we came after 2:30pm. We ordered a few things and got my pho. It was very tasty and good. Not like back home though. The nigiri was also good and so was the dynamite. All in all this place is good!! read more

Rather long wait ...but kinds servers and a nummy roll. Long lines so get there early.

The food was very good - a unique style of sushi with "black rice". Tasted like very good quality sushi! Only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because the waitress was not super attentive, didn't stop by other than to take my initial order, so I had to eventually flag her down for help. read more

I'm visiting Ashland, Oregon, and I took myself out for dinner. I was in the mood for Sushi. The restaurant had a good feel to it. It was clean, everyone was wearing masks and the tables were separated. I was seated and my waiter was Zack. Zach was attentive to all my dinner wants and needs. I had the seaweed salad, California spring rolls, and sweet shrimp. It was delicious. I had a wonderful experience and ill be back. read more

Once upon a time this restaurant was called Taroco. It was extraordinary, and my go to restaurant. I ate there at least 3 to 4 times a week. Limited menu, but everything was prepared to perfection. And then, all of a sudden, some guy from Brooklyn decides to buy the place and ruin it. I went there a few times after the change in ownership. Much to my dismay, but not surprised, I was consistently served inedible slop. Someone needs to knock some sense into another narcissistic New Yorker who thinks he can fool West Coasters. AND, for the record, I grew up in New Jersey 3 miles from Midtown Manhattan, eight at the finest restaurants. I know a good food is, and this idiot chef th read more

Pretty standard pricing for a sushi shop, which is to say not cheap. Again, it's sushi. Portion size is pretty good. The sashimi salad was pretty good, it was tuna and salmon sashimi (if I recall correctly) with cucumbers and lettuce. Crunchy Tiger Hidden Dragon (special roll with crab, cucumber, salmon, and tempura flakes) was awesome. What an absolute medley of flavors. Dynamite was not bad as well. I liked the lighting and the ambiance, it was dim inside and rather romantic. read more

Attentive service and an extensive menu! Everyone in the family found something that accommodated their craving, from sushi to salad to stir fry. It was busy on a Friday night which is a sign of how popular it is with the locals. We certainly enjoyed ourselves. read more

Had A nice experience here at Umami . The Baked Muscles were Great ! Fresh Oysters were Amazing! My wife had Veggie rolls that were beautiful and tasty. The sushi rolls were gorgeous and delicious. We sat at the bar and the sushi chef was tough to read . He comes off a bit gruff so I felt like I was bothering him a bit. The waiter was exceptionally friendly and made up for it. The food was great and the chef warmed up a little by the end of our meal. It's a little pricey but This a regular stop for us . Good Stuff!! read more

I wish I knew the name of the woman who answered the phone to take our order. We had so many questions and she was not only patient but sounded so energetic and happy. She didn't seem to get annoyed and didn't rush us. The food was made in a timely fashion and was actually good ! I'm glad we found this place. Wish I had taken pictures of the food. I had Mongolian beef with rice and my husband had to same but also had some sushi (can't remember exactly what kind). I'm not giving 5 stars because at the end of the day it isn't the best I've ever had but worth it to try out and see for yourself. read more

Great Japanese food good ambiance and service for a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend this place.

I honestly don't know where to start! The waitress was so kind and attentive! She had great recommendation and not just of the food, but of other things to do in town. Now the food! Wow, the sushi was fresh and delicious, even weeks after eating here I am still dream of the sushi rolls I had here. read more

New favorite spot for sushi. This place is super nice and cute, can't wait to bring my friends.

We ordered take out last night and these guys were just a joy to order from. We walked in and the server working the take out orders was just a gem. Friendly, gave great suggestions, and made excellent recommendations. The food was all excellent, traveled well to our house, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We've eaten here a number of times and it's been a consistently good experience. The service last night was just great and we really appreciated it. read more

So good! We had a birthday dinner here 8 of us total. The waiter was so attentive and friendly, which on a Saturday night with a group is really saying something. Everyone ordered a wide variety so we could all sample from each other. Everything we tried we amazing, from Phad Thai to Ramen to Hawaiian roll and calamari there was even a rich smoky Curry bowl! read more

The food is simply amazing. We eat here every time we're in town and always comment how we wish they were in our hometown. They have so many interesting choices. They put together unexpected combinations (avocado and peanut roll - yummy!), and the freshest ingredients (the yellowtail jalapeño was perfection). Their prices are reasonable and their service super friendly (called in a take out order and the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly). If I could give them 10 stars I would! read more

Some of the worst service I have ever had. Nobody clearly cares. I've seen two tables leave because servers have not came to talk talk to them. I watched my deep fried roll sit on the sushi bar for 10 minutes and get cold and the chefs just stood there looking at it despite the servers clearly being busy or just not paying attention and me sitting 5 feet away from them. Really sad to see they clearly don't care about the food they are making. read more

Food was meh. Other sushi place(s) in town superior dishes, faster etc. Good service though.

Literally the best thing to do is go to umami and get the avocado bomb and a sushi roll!! Love this restaurant!

Very Good Meal, Service was phenomenal, Love the location which is close to everything Will definitely come back when we're in Ashland

We moved to Ashland OR a little over two years ago from the San Francisco Bay Area. We love it, with one exception, the Chinese food scene is abysmal in the Rogue Valley. If you're ever in San Francisco, stop in at Henry's Hunan restaurant on Sacramento Street. It's a hole in the wall cafe that has the best szechuan ever. I've been searching in vain for a Henry's replacement since we moved here and I've come to the conclusion that it's just not going to happen. There's just not a restaurant with multiple dishes that even comes close. And then today. Oh today my wife and I went to Umami Sushi and Asian Cusine just off the plaza next to Harvey's place. Two words for you "Mongolian Beef." Mongolian beef is my test dish for any new restaurant and they had it on the menu and it was an 8 out of 10 on the Henry's scale. So, so good I'm such a happy camper today. My record at Henry's was five lunches in a row, I don't think I'll break that here but the thought has crossed my mind. They also had the best shrimp and vegetable tempura I've had since moving here. Give this place a try. read more

Probably the worst place to eat in town ( now remove probably to be exact) I Asked for two things. Tonkatsu Ramen and Phad Thai both awful and inedible (went straight to the garbage can) The ramen was a mix of insta ramen with a weak broth (water down ) and very few thin slices of what someone might call pork. No taste at all ! Phad Thai was a disaster, t was basically noodles with Italian marinara sauce from a can and few old pieces of sea food. Two bites and straight to the garbage can. There you have it: An absolute waste of time and money. Never coming back BTW. Cleanliness was missing in action, just need to enter the restaurant and look at the door, the floor or the little black stand where people are supposed to be greeted and wait for a table. So many red flags I was hungry and now hungry and disappointed read more
