Avocado bomb with spicy tuna is the bomb!
    Mayu D.

We stopped in this small town for dinner during our road trip. Ambience - 3/5. It's more of a bar which offers unexpectedly good mix of Asian food. Service - 5/5. Not only they were friendly but also extremely kind. After the end of our meal, we asked if they could make a special chicken stir fry with no seasoning for our puppy and they made it for us without any hesitation. Our puppy who refused to eat her kibble all day finally stuffed herself. We can't thank you enough!! Food - 3/5. Expect your local teriyaki house level food. My mi goreng didn't taste anything like mi goreng I'm used to, but it was a good Japanese yakisoba. It reminded me of an old Japanese restaurant in used to go with my late grandma. Their chicken stir fry was pretty good too. If you require a lot of protein though, we'd recommend you to double the meat. Avocado bomb reminded me of my college year. It's a yummy spicy tuna stuffed avocado tempura. If this restaurant was in a bigger town or city, I'd probably rate it 2.5/3, but it's a 4 star filled with nice staff in this small town. Overall, we'd come back here if we ever pass this little town again. :)

How'd I end up here... A big part of my work requires a lot of travel and on this particular night, we were on our way up from Eureka California to Eugene Oregon. Its dinner time and we were not gonna settle for another fast food drive through, hell nah. So we took to Yelping. First thing you'll notice when you get into Grants Pass is that for dinner, you better look to eat before 8pm because your options start getting thin after that. Good news is Taroko is there and they're open till Midnight! What did we eat? - Crab Cheese Puffs 4/5 stars - gyozas 4/5 stars - Beef Stir Fry 5/5 stars - Opur Curry 5/5 stars This place, the Chef, the service, all go above and beyond. Portions are exactly what you want and expect for the price. Flavors and execution of the dishes we ordered were perfect. Crab puffs, man these were slammin. I can only think of crab cheese rangoons that I had in Seattle's Pike Place Market that are comparable. Beef was nice and tender not chewy and the broccoli which accompanied were fresh and cooked perfectly. The curry I will not even attempt to describe. It's unfortunate that I will only be able to enjoy this curry when I'm in Grants Pass because when I crave curry, I will always think of the Opur Curry I had here. Taroko and the staff, thank you and I'll def be dining whenever I'm in town

Cool bar with quite a few veggie options. I really enjoyed my curry. Take out was simple and they are open fairly late.

I've lived in many major cities and have been cooking for almost 40 years. I didn't arrive with high expectations but the steak was perfect as was our app (The Kahlua Shrimp.) The husband enjoyed his polenta lasagna as well. He's extremely picky so I was surprised to hear it hahaha. The server was super friendly and fun and the chef also checked in on us and was equally as cool. A lot of Yelp reviews seem to just be people with unrealistic expectations so I take it with a grain of salt. I don't typically leave reviews on account of that but I like to give credit where credit is due. I definitely plan to come back next time we are in town! Thanks to everyone for a great 43rd bday!! :)

I had the Cod sandwich with poblano soup. The soup was delicious, the sandwiches very good too. We had a flatbread as an appetizer and everyone seems to really enjoy that. One person at our table wasn't real thrilled with their selection, but they never said anything to the server I looked at the other foods as they were being served, and they all looked really tasty I would come back 4.26

We ordered a round of drinks and the place was so hot that we decided not to eat and closed our tab of $23 with an additional 5% "service fee". We paid cash so this is NOT a credit card fee. Sorry guys- you lost me as a customer. I hate being "nickled and dimed". Just add 5 cents to everything on the menu and call it a day! Dont be sneaky and charge a ridiculous random fee just because you think you can. No thanks! Other issue is the bar stools are bolted down... why?! Short people sit too far away from the bar now and its very uncomfortable. Menu looked the same so food is normally good from past visits in old place. Bar drinks were good, just too hot in there to enjoy. It's too bad about the 5% fee because I really wanted to make this a new favorite place. Deal breaker.

There's a cool wood-fired oven for pizza, which was a fun process to watch. I ordered the patty melt, which is something I never order, but I was in a rush to decide & did one of those, "I'll have what he's having" things when my husband ordered his patty melt. We're big seltzer water people, so when we went to order a seltzer and the lady told us it was free and self-serve, I was elated. The food didn't take very long & it was tasty looking! The sandwich was cut in half with smashed burger meat overflowing past the bread. It was glorious. The part of the plate that wasn't dominated by melty goodness was filled with with well-seasoned and crisp homemade fries. I could smell how delicious everything was the moment the moment the plate was set down in front of me. Flavor & texture of all the things exceeded expectations. The patty melt had layers of crispy fried onions that made for a lovely and tasty first-bite surprise, & continued to bring joy with each subsequent bite. Every there was incredibly nice and friendly. Dining there was so easy and lovely. Would love to come back the next time we pass through!

Bar Juillet: Where Perfect Cocktails Meet Perfect Fried Chicken…read more Bar Juillet has quickly become one of our absolute favorite go-to spots in Ashland and Southern Oregon. It all starts with the best fried chicken you'll find anywhere in the region. Hands down. This restaurant and cocktail bar delivers on every front. The cocktails are crafted with real skill and balance, and their wine list is outstanding a thoughtful mix of local favorites and world-renowned producers that shows just how seriously they take their program. I've eaten here multiple times, and one thing you can always count on is consistency. The service is warm and attentive, the food is always executed beautifully, and the atmosphere makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the night. They do get busy on weekends, so reservations are smart, but even if you end up waiting, it's absolutely worth it. And if you can grab a seat at the bar, do it. The bartenders here make it an experience all on its own. Reliable, delicious, and truly one of Ashland's standout spots. Bar Juillet never disappoints.

As a chef at two James Beard-winning restaurants, a server, owner, and consultant, I have dedicated my life to the food industry and the people within it. I'm from Ashland, and I was so happy when places like this started showing up in my hometown. Good food and atmosphere can be so hard to find. Coming home to Ashland can be a true oasis for my family. My wife and I have made it our life's mission to make our daughter feel equal and included. Our daughter was born with a rare condition called AMC and does not have normal function in any of her limbs. She currently spends 3-4 days a week in physical therapy to continue building strength so her body and organs can function properly. We were visiting family at the park and suggested stopping in for a beverage and snacks to escape the heat after a long day. We typically plan everything ahead to ensure wherever we go can accommodate my daughter's wheelchair and needs. When we arrived, we thought, "Wow, perfect, she can wheel right in and up to one of the many open tables." Once we were "greeted" by the host, I realized we were not who she wanted to deal with. Three kids, three adults, a stroller, and a wheelchair. She looked like she wanted nothing to do with us, like we were dirt on her shoe. "No reservation," she said. I replied, "Yeah, so sorry, we figured since it was a Monday night right when you opened, and there were only two two-tops seated, we could probably find somewhere to sit." I reassured her we would not stay long enough to impact reservations at the larger front tables, which usually have reserved markers on them but did not at the time. We could all feel that she didn't want to seat us, and we left despite me practically begging to make something work for us, because I know she could have if she wanted to. Being from the industry, I understand what kids can do to an atmosphere, and I know a lot of restaurant workers don't enjoy dealing with other people's children. But when we went outside and my daughter cried and said, "They didn't want me there" So I loaded my daughter's wheelchair back into the car so I could carry her up the stairs at Brickroom, where one employee was working the entire place and took amazing care of us, I might add. We resorted to a booster seat for my daughter since she couldn't use her wheelchair there. She ended up falling out of the seat and slamming onto the hardwood floor. She cried and was embarrassed. The young man tending bar while also waiting every table rushed over with a bag of ice to comfort her. It was honestly touching how kind he was. When we left Brickroom, we had spent more time there than we originally intended to spend at Bar Juliet. As we walked back by Bar Juliet, we noticed the restaurant was still only about half full, and one of the large front tables had remained open the entire time from around 4:10 until 5:40 when we walked by again. I had to stop and ask the host why she couldn't have seated us considering that table never filled. Her only explanation was, "Our kitchen is slow getting food out." Such an incredibly weak excuse. I hope she understands she was wrong and that she made my daughter feel unwanted simply because accommodating us wasn't convenient for her. I have never left a review in my life, but I was so saddened and disgusted by this experience that I felt I had to.
