Ultra spicy ramen level 2 Sapporo beer Tori Kaarage
Eddie K.

I invited one of my best friends to eat at umiado and he loved it so much. The food was on point absolutely delish. The service was very quick and on point as well.. My best friend said the ramen took him back when he visited Japan last year which I think is a very high compliment.. He absolutely loved the food and so did I.. I enjoyed it a lot. Thr ambiance was very cool we both loved the way the restaurant was set up.. I will definitely be back.

Ultra Spicy Ramen

Umaido is a hole in the wall restaurant serving Japanese food including ramen, rice bowls, and curry. The inside has a traditional aesthetic Japanese design, but is a little cramped. It was not that busy when I arrived and the service was very friendly and attentive! We got the Ultra Spicy Ramen and Tonkotsu Ramen. My boyfriend really likes this place, mostly for the Ultra Spicy Ramen. I got my go-to ramen at any Japanese restaurant... the Tonkotsu Ramen! I found the noodles to be a bit stale and the broth to be saltier than I wanted. However, I did enjoy the soft boiled egg (the yolk was runny) and the chashu! Overall, I think Umaido is just alright. I would probably give this restaurant a 3.5/5 stars if I could. I want to come back and try other items on their menu, such as their appetizers which I see people rave about on here.

Shrimp Katsu Curry
Kate Z.

A small hole-in-the-wall Japanese place with good ramen and okay rice dishes. We waited a bit for a table since the place is small. I ordered the shrimp katsu curry, and it came in decent quantity, but the curry was way too thin. The flavor was good and the shrimp well fried, but the curry fell short. My other friends enjoyed their ramen, though it's the kind with thin noodles.

Chasyu Don
Krissy L.

Ordered the Chaysu Don and the Hirata Bao. Both were delicious. The flavors were bursting with sweet, savory, and creamy from the mayo drizzle. My only con is that they used pork belly instead of a lean pork because the leaner the meat, the less flavorful.

Decent food, vibes, and service when i went last month. Hit or miss on the side dishes; they aren't always available. 7/10

Shoot! Ever wanted to really enjoy something based on the positive reviews and it just didn't pan out? It was that! As far as curry goes, this is more like Umakunaido. The curry was super thin, overly sweet, and the pork katsu was way overcooked. Ya, if you speak Japanese you'll understand that カレー味は良くなかった。とても残念でした. It was also like a sauna in there. The staff were super friendly but it wasn't enough for me to even be able to finish my dinner.

Ramen level 1

One of the very first spots my boyfriend took me and quickly became my absolute favorite ramen place. We go with friends all the time. I have tried many places from chain restaurants to hole-in-the-wall spots and nothing tops this place. I'd wait an hour just for this. If we ever can't pick a place to eat and Umaido is recommended it's an easy yes for both of us. Please never change anything about the level one ramen.

Nice Asian restaurant, Japanese style food, top 5 asian restaurants in Duluth area, nice family ambience, friendly service with young people, good restrooms area, many drink and foor options, we ordered some sushi and ramen plates, amazing flavors, japanese beers are good too. Definitely a must try restaurant.

Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen Level 3

I haven't been here in a while but this place never disappoint. I ordered spicy ramen level 3 with extra noodles. It was on point but next time I'm going to up the spicy level. There's usually a wait but I picked the right time and was seated right away. The ambiance is right up my alley. Overall, I like this place and will keep it in my restaurant foodie rotation. Cheers!

I came in here with a friend last Saturday for a hearty lunch. My friend likes this place so I had decent expectations. I love ramen, so a good bowl makes my day. The place does not have a LOT of seating so be prepared to wait a tad bit during busy days. We had to wait for 10 mins and then we had a spot at a communal style table. We were quickly given water and we had to scan the QR code to see the menu. The Spicy Miso interested me and my friend got the Tonkotsu. It took about 15 minutes for the ramen bowls to arrive and it looked DELICIOUS! Honestly, it was good. The egg, the broth, and the whole concoction tasted great. I just feel that it wasn't really spicy. And the oomph or hearty factor was a lil missing. The price point wasn't too bad. The portions were typical too.

Tonkotsu Ramen with extra pork belly and fried onions. Level 2 spice.

Not going to write a novel. They're consistently good. Try them I'd be surprised at your disappointment

I tried to order takeout, but the phone number listed here and on their website does not work. What phone number do they take takeout orders through?

The number I used earlier this week was 678-318-8568

Any gluten free options?

There are several gluten-free options. Just ask the servers.

Tried to call to order pick up several times, but no one pick up. Do they really take the order by phone?

Hi Amy! Thanks for calling Umaido. Yes we do take orders over the phone, but due to the COVID-19 most of our guest are doing Take out orders as well and our phone line can get pretty backed up. We are sorry about this.

Do they have vegan options?

Yes they have some vegan dish as well.

We let the kids get the Squid Games cookies which were $6 each (ouch) but wanted to have the whole experience. I don't have the desire to go back as the ramen in there could be found anywhere. Parking was easy, it's in a plaza and the ambience was cool for a kid while the ramen was only as good as the combination you created. The prices need to be lowered and a bowl should at least include some of the items such as an egg and you shouldn't be charged separately. I would also suggest the cookies come down to at least $3. I wish for the kids to be able to do their own bowl and not be hovered around. Cute place but one and done.

So, I can only vouch for my experience eating Japanese food to state that the tsukemen at Okiboru is just like what I have eaten in Japan, specifically the Kansai region. Being that I prefer tsukemen over ramen, dipping sauce over soup, over the years, I have definitely eaten my fair share of this type of noodle. The broth is a thick gravy that is meaty and dashi-rich at the same time. Not too salty, although slightly bitter at times. What really stands out at Okiboru is their thick and toothsome tsukemen noodles. The texture of these noodles alone keeps me returning. QR code menu and friendly service. It completely fits with the nostalgia we were feeling and hanging out with each other again. Service was efficient, and we were easily able to converse with each other. The food is pretty heavy what with it being fried and mostly carbs, but the kimchi and pickled radish help cut the greasiness of it. One of the standout things about this place is that they have DonPas. When we first heard of it, we though it would be fun to get. The donkatsu used for it is thin and fried well. The pork wasn't dry at all, and it was able to hold the pasta and its sauce while remaining crunchy though you definitely should eat it before the sauce truly sets in and changes the texture. For the pasta portion, we went with carbonara pasta, and it was good! Creamy and paired pretty well with donkatsu, which normally has a different type of sauce with it. We also got the UFO fried rice to share. It was filling, and I highly recommend it with egg, cheese, and corn over sauce. That being said, not a fan of the lot to get here. It's got a bit of an decline/incline, not the worst I've experienced, but still something that I took note of. At least my car didn't hit the ground with a scratch like another place I've been to. Leaving can be difficult if it's a busy time with lots of cars, but it's not too bad... I just know I'm not the best driver.
