Terrible club. Wouldn't recommend it all. Every time I go I have a issue with the black short guy that checks IDs. He abuses his power to let people in time after time. Last night I arrived and my friend couldn't get in the club because of a dress code violation (cool we gave him the keys to head to the car). He comes back with a attitude and proceeds to kick us out after we asked a question about the dress code. We had no hostile energy just simply asking a question. His energy is weird every time we go but last night did it for us. The whole staff has weird aggressive energy unfit for business. But based off these other reviews ownership and management doesn't care so I'm not surprised. If you're coming from out of town skip ultra bar and find another spot. After spending over $100 myself and with friends paying a lot of money to be in the VIP area, the staff was incredibly rude and arrogant. Tony was the only reasonable bouncer, everyone else was very hostile and tried to pick fights with our group of friends. Think back to high school when the bully would fight you if you didn't bow down to him, that is basically how the staff acts; they were picking fights and trying to throw people out for absolutely no reason other than they didn't like how they looked. Ive always loved going to UltraBar! Everytime we go there, we always do V.I.P. service. It is the best way in. It was 7 of us on a busy saturday night. Got a table on main floor (most happening spot) we walked right in.skipped line, didnt pay a dime for cover, private table and yes they did have ropes and a security to make sure only table guests were at table section. (Plus) Main thing I like about this place is the variety of music on throughout the whole venue!! I think they had 4 floors with a different dj on each floor. Major plus! Edm was on main.international was on second and hiphop all the way upstairs. They did have a dj in the basement but didnt stay too long given I was only there to access the mens room which is very accessible through our table side. My favorite floor was the international! A lot of exotic females that really know how to dance on ya hehe. Our cocktail waitress was very attentive and always kept glasses and mixers full. We had a birthday and on each bottle they served, they stuck a sparkler which really made the bday boys night! We dont always come to UltraBar, but when we do we always have a blast! Waited in line on my 21st birthday, just to be turned around around because someone in my group didn't have the proper footwear. one of the bouncers under his breath said, "there's too many 'big' people in the club already". didn't believe that's what was said at first until i looked back and saw that people who were under dressed with the actual wrong food wear were being let in. Was good at first but as it started to get crowded, they never opened up other floors. Friend left his ID and Debit card and they were awful about getting someone to come back the next day to let him pick it up. He almost missed the flight back home. I honestly wish I could give a 0 star. Because I got to enjoy 0 percent of my brief time in Ultra. Upon arrival I noticed the bar had a 85 percent male to 15 percent female ratio. That was disappointing on its own, but still I decided to go in and see what little hype I'd heard was about. Not even 20 minutes later, Ultra killed my night. I went to the bathroom real quick, and to be honest, I'm not sure if this was a tactic to stop people from using the bathroom or what. The toilet seat was missing...it was literally just the rim. I've never even seen that before. As bad as I had to go, I held it in, I was disgusted. To make matters worse, there wasn't even toilet paper to help keep my ass clean if I decided to tough it out, I wouldn't be able to keep myself from contracting cholera. It was like I was in the 17th century. As soon as I walked out of the bathroom, still fully needing to go to the bathroom but resisting, I notice this security guard was talking to my boy. She was pretty cute so I thought she was spitting game, until I realized she was doing the exact opposite. I asked my buddy to hold my cup while I went to the bathroom, and she took it upon herself to accuse him of having a drink he didn't purchase....no shit Sherlock. I tried to explain that I asked him to hold it for me, but her mind was made up. She wanted to ruin our night before it even began. Less than 30 minutes after our night had begun, it was over. This bar hasn't finished its name. It's definitely Ultra....an Ultra piece of shit! Don't waste your money paying the cover, I promise it won't be worth it. read more

From a guy's perspective, this place is pretty decent. As others have said, they do keep the line artificially long (waited ~25 min to enter an almost empty club), they do search you before coming in the door, and there are a lot of Asians (not that it's a bad thing--it is Chinatown after all). But once you get it it's a fun place. I was there on a Saturday night and while there were a lot of people, there's plenty of space and I never felt like I couldn't move around if needed. The bartenders were quick, the drinks weren't too expensive, and there were plenty of girls. I would visit this place again. Also, the "free passes" that they give away online are essentially a commodity--it won't get you in the door any faster because everyone has them. I have been to this night club a few times and I like it. They have a lot of floors for people to go on and they have different music for very floor which is cool. They are open on Thursdays but only the main floor is open, I didn't like that. I think there should be two more floors open that night. It's get crowded and there is a range of different people there. And different ages, some people there...a little bit too old. But they have good security. read more

Classy & fun they have multiple floors with different music that you have access to once you're inside with your wristband and wrist stamp, their security, staff, & bartenders are cooperative, fast paced and very professional, the drinks were so fresh and their limes and lemons. Went to UltraBar for the first time this Thursday night. It was pretty dead, and they only had one floor open. The music was really bad, and not at all good dancing music. I was also surprised that drinks were as expensive as they were ($14 for a shot of whisky). There were lots of drinks spilled on the floor that were not cleaned up, but that is to be expected at nightclubs. The dress code was not enforced. There were lots of people in t-shirts, hoodies, and basketball shoes. I even saw one guy wearing slippers. I have been told that Thursday nights are the slow nights, so I'm up for giving it another try on a weekend. I will update this next time I go back. read more

Being a college student in DC, I have been to a couple of clubs in the area. But I have to admit, Ultrabar is by far the worst of them all. Firstly, I want to state that on Saturday September 19th, 2015 at around 12:50, I was wrongfully accused of stealing one of the Disc Jockey's phone. The DJ snatched my own phone out of my hands and told me he wouldn't give my phone back unless I gave him his phone, which I didn't have. On the spot, he was trying to figure out my password which led my phone locking itself. I have no idea why he was trying to get onto my phone but it was clearly a INVASION of my personal privacy. He then proceeded to THREATEN me and continued with the verbal HARASSMENT while he was on stage in front of people. He told me to leave the venue while he still had my phone in his hands. I was escorted out of the club and was again constantly harassed by the bouncers and even the owner. I was accused and treated inhumanly and didn't even get any apology. Ultimately, I got blamed for something I did not do and was treated unprofessionally. Secondly, this place is a magnet for under aged drinking. I've seen people who WORK there buy drinks for minors. The bouncers even give out 21+ passes to minors they like. Authorities should look into this. I only wanted to have a good time and make this club work for me. This is by far unacceptable. Had a ball here for NYE which was only $30. BUT... The Hip-Hop floor needs expansion. It looks like the best looking hole in the wall you'll ever find in DC. I said it was a luxury basement. Nothing compared to the upstairs part of Ultrabar. The bartender showed love the whole night though. But that hallway from the dance floor to the bathroom and coat check is narrow as hell. If there were a fire, a huge crowd like last night would die from that and people stampeding. Other than that, you'll have a good time here if you're not trying to spend a grip on a good night. I don't know if there is anything that would ever make me return to UltraBar. I came here last night for a friend's birthday party, and saw the first warnings signs with 1) that it was an 18+club and 2) it got 2.5 stars on Yelp. Allow me to list the offenses, beginning with the most egregious: 1) No tap water. Yesterday was one of the hottest nights in DC, with the temperature leveling at a steady 95 degrees throughout the night. It was just as swelteringly hot in UltraBar as it was outside (perhaps worse, since there was a slight breeze outside). It felt like there was no air conditioning at all. That, coupled with the large number of patrons in the club, led me to feel like I was literally melting away. I tried to seek relief on multiple floors, but even the lowest floor was hotter than a sauna. Accordingly, I wanted my fair share of tap water to stay hydrated and not pass out. I had no troubles at the beginning of the night getting tap water, but at one of the bars, the bartender literally told me she couldn't give me tap water. My friends, this is absolute blasphemy. Do you really want your club patrons getting dehydrated and passing out due to the lack of AC and tap water given out?? I have never felt so spurned, as I feel like free tap water is a given at any club or bar. I was so dehydrated at this point that I asked for a bottle of water, which was a ridiculous $4. $4!!!!! And this brings me to my next point... 2) $25 credit card minimum. I had no cash on me (I usually don't carry any cash to clubs), and the bartender refused to let me buy a $4 bottle of water unless I spent $25. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? First, no tap water. Second, no water for you unless you spend $25. At this point, we were separated from our friends so I stormed away from the bar. I would also like to note that I had ordered a Red Bull Vodka earlier, which is $11/drink for a small glass. So you'll have to buy 3 drinks in order to reach the minimum. Absolutely ridiculous. 3) Lack of ventilation and air conditioning. On the mezzanine, I saw exactly one fan in a corner. Awesome. I have never been treated so poorly at a club before in terms of payment and water, which are two crucial elements. I will say that 1) the DJ played good music and 2) the hostess are our table was very accommodating in terms of bringing us our drinks and clearing our table. Unless you want to keep turning away your clientele with your poor policies on tap water and credit card minimums, I would advise management here to foster some better business practices. read more

I went with my friends for a late 21st bday celebration and had a lot of fun. There are multiple floors and you'll definitely like one of them. At first I was worried that the whole club would be full of 18 year olds, but it wasn't really like that. If you are looking for somewhere to go in dc with your girls, definitely try here. Today I attempted to have my second positive experience at this bar. Unfortunately while in line, my friend got really dehydrated and got very sick. I tried to inform the bouncer that I needed to get her inside and he refused to allow it. She unfortunately threw up outside. She was too weak to stand so I ran to get her water. When I came back, the bouncer outside immediately said that we had to get away from the spot where she was sitting so they could clean. I understood that however as I tried to tell him over and over, my friend was not yet strong enough to stand. He insisted that we move from the spot and even suggested that I somehow carry her by myself. I've never felt so disregarded. read more

Horrible service. The venue is a great place but the table service tries to trick you out of money. First the organizer told me that table service was $300 while I was in line. I agreed. When I reached the table though, they detailed that the minimum was $350. Then after we bought our table and went to the dance floor With over a third of my Bacardi rum left, they cleaned up everything without even asking us. They claimed that I don't have a bottle left on my table and that they aren't obligated to provide me anything because we "finished" everything. DO NOT COME HERE FOE BOTTLE SERVICE!!! I'd advice people to come here before midnight around 10:00 PM to avoid a 45 minute wait line and $20 cover fees after midnight. read more

AVOID. Look, I know when you're between 18-20 your options for clubbing are very limited. However, Ultrabar is NOT with your time or money. I went once and I will never be going again. If you're over 21, I don't know why you would even consider wasting your time at a place like this (unless you have a thing for the youth.) Yeah they give free admission for ladies over 21 on certain nights but I can assure you that there IS NO POINT. The line is unnecessarily long and the venue is horribly crowded. You don't have room to dance! The people that work at Ultrabar are BEYOND RUDE! I understand that it's a club and they more than likely deal with stubborn drunks all night, but I've met plenty of bouncers, bartenders, etc. that were nothing but friendly. I highly recommend Eden or U Street Music Hall whether you're under 21 or not! The crowd and the people at these places are so so much better. On certain nights you can get in for free too (regardless of gender.) In conclusion, Ultrabar is overrated and 100% terrible. As a frequent DC goer, I promise that there are much better places to go to. read more

If I could give lower stars I would. I was completely sober and the bouncer wouldn't let me or me or my friends in (who were also sober) because they said we were drunk. They threatened to call the police and I said that they should to prove we were sober, and they refused and ignored us. A club I'm surprised was as fun as it is, but I did actually have a really good time the few times I've been. My only complaint is that the security is kinda rude and that the place perpetuates a lot of really misogynistic and creepy behavior. There are a lot of really creepy guys that will just go up to women and immediately start grinding on them without even asking to dance, and there's always a few that don't take no for an answer, and no security near the dancefloor to help fend them off. That isn't the club's fault, but then they'll have floors where you can only go up if you're a man and 21+, but women of all ages are let up, which is kinda fucked because they all have the black x's on their hands as identifiers. It's definitely not an unsafe place for women, but none of my girlfriends feel comfortable going to Ultrabar without a guy present, which is pretty fucked, and this type of stuff doesn't happen at any of the other clubs we go to. Also the drinks are hella overpriced, and security is very present where they don't need to be, and not present where they should be. They've also been pretty transphobic toward my friends and I, which I'll let slide, and will tell you the cover is $20 over the phone, but charge $30 when you get there. Oh, and the drinks taste like ass. Overall, I do enjoy the bar a lot, but there are some things that make it less pleasant than it should be. read more

Two stars. Yep, that sounds about right. I went here with a couple of friends, male and female, on a Friday night. The line for those not on the guest list was pretty long, and it took us about 45 minutes to actually get in. The females were able to get in for free with the free pass, but the men had to pay $15 with the pass (it was after 11 PM). First thing we noticed when we came in was the jam packed first floor. To get to the bathroom on the OTHER side of the floor, you must go through constantly bumping/running into people to get there. Keep in mind, some people wouldn't move even if you said excuse me. There were times where my friends were starting to get a little testy due to the constant times people were running into them. The first floor did have the best music being played out of all three floors opened, and that's not saying much. The bottom floor downstairs was closed for the night, so I didn't get the chance to see what was there. The other two floors were OK, but just not my type of music. After reading a couple of reviews from previous Yelpers, I already knew I wasn't going to buy anything to drink here. A female that was with us paid $14 for a drink that originally was halfway filled up. After complaining to the bartender, he compromised and added more to the cup. Overall, my experience at UltraBar was not as enjoyable as originally expected. I definitely recommend going with a group of people and to get their early in order to avoid the long lines. Absolutely awful bar. The bouncer up front lied to our face and talked us into bottle service; promising us $100 bottle service for 6 people. Then, when we got upstairs, they told us the minimum was now $300, and that we would have to pay it or pay a ridiculous $40 cover charge. Then, after we agreed to pay for the bottle service, the bouncers and wait staff were continually rude to us, and continued to try to scam us. Having read a few of the other reviews, it seems that 'Ultrabar' also makes fraudulent charges to people's cards, we will absolutely be checking our statements. I'm a little torn about writing this review. I do enjoy going to this club, but their are a few things that I dislike. I'll start off with the good first. I enjoy going here to dance and have a few drinks. The crowd is very diverse and you can meet a lot of different people. Drink cost about the average price for the DC area. There are some nights that are not crazy busy which makes it easier to move around the club. The music is pretty good, and they have different DJs on each floor that play different music. Also the bouncers keep an eye out for people under 21 trying to drink. Listen, if you're underage and drinking in this business, don't get upset at them for kicking you out because you broke the law and got caught. Now the bad. First, UltraBar can get very busy and you pretty much are the entire time you are there. If you don't get there before 11 you'll probably be waiting outside in line for a while. I feel like the management makes people wait in line to build up to draw attention to them and make it seem like the club is poppin'. If you want to get a drink it might take you a minute depending on what floor you're on. Overall I would recommend trying this club. read more

UlraBar sets the standard for ratchet clubs in DC. I went because I heard about the 4 floors and thought it sounded fun, but I was definitely wrong... Each floor is basically the same cramped room except they play different music (hip hop, top 40, R&B, reggae). Employees pushed people out of the way because the floors were so cramped. Multiple fights broke out and security didn't do jack. Drinks are obviously watered down. The people who go here are a either tools or flat out ghetto. To sum it up, DO NOT GO HERE unless you like sketchy places with sketchy people! read more
