Overpriced, mid drinks, small crowds, and few people on a Friday. Not the best vibes for a fun time.

Located just off the bustle of King St., Brut sits unassumingly among the Old Town townhomes. You could easily walk past, and not notice it at all. But, if you've dialed in Brut as your destination, be prepared to step in to an oenophile's wet dream. The establishment is both a bottle shop and a wine bar. Every bottle in the joint is carefully curated. There is no junk...no fluff...no quid to subsidize quo...all excellence, from any country or region your heart may desire. Do your Christmas shopping here, for sure. That shopping is going to make you thirsty, so pony up to the small but well appointed bar. Its no easy thing to find a bar with a good "wine by the glass" list, but Brut manages that task with ease. From your sauvignon blancs, through the pinots, to full bodied reds...take a flight of fancy, and walk home well fortified. Since the bar is small, and seats are at a premium, the owner Dustin does a masterful job of weeding out the Riff-raff. Trust me when I say that watching it is far better than TV. I cannot recommend this cool little spot more highly. Maybe I'll see ya there sometime!

No issues with checking in and being seated in a timely manner, even showing up a little early in our case. The restaurant was very open and elegant, situated alongside the Riggs Hotel which has some hidden history to discover. Our server, Clemente, was phenomenal. Very attentive, not overbearing, and answered all our questions. My wife and I split a salad that we loved although felt it could have been more flavorful. It was missing something that we couldn't pinpoint whether it was croutons, tomatoes, etc although we still enjoyed it. I had the Steak Frites which came with french fries and I swapped for creamed spinach that was so delicious. My wife who isn't a fan of creamed spinach ended up eating a good portion. We ordered a side of brussel sprouts that was also good, a little sweet, but well flavored. We followed dinner up with coffee that hit the spot, along with a chocolate dessert that Clemente brought to celebrate our anniversary. It was a lovely evening thanks to Clemente and the team. We will definitely return for another experience.

There were two bartenders working at that time. The bartender in question was not the Asian woman, but rather a woman who appeared to be mixed with Black and White. Her behavior toward me and my husband was extremely unprofessional, inappropriate, and disrespectful. From the moment I approached the bar, she was unfriendly, dismissive, and gave me dirty looks. She then made a highly inappropriate comment toward my husband, stating that she was "out of strawberry Hennessy but sweet enough for him," and later propositioned him for sex in exchange for money. I ordered two drinks -- a Jolly Rancher and a Long Island. My drink had no alcohol in it, despite costing nearly $50 for both drinks. When my husband returned the drink to the bar and mentioned that it lacked alcohol, the bartender laughed and called me a "bitch." This experience left me deeply uncomfortable and disrespected, especially as a married woman. It is unacceptable for staff to engage in such inappropriate and sexually suggestive behavior toward customers. The bartender's actions made me feel unsafe and completely unwelcome, and I will not return to Rose Bar as a result. I am requesting that this matter be investigated immediately and that appropriate action be taken against the bartender involved. I also recommend that management review its employee conduct policies and sexual harassment training to ensure all patrons are treated with dignity and respect. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I am available to provide additional details if needed. I finally got a chance to revisit this gem hidden in the lobby level of the AKA Hotel, and after a…read morelovely evening, I regretted not having returned sooner. For starters, it's pretty quiet in the late afternoons, which is nice if you're just popping in for a quick drink after a long day. They light a fire at 5pm daily, so if you want to relax and stare contemplatively into the flames, just grab a high-backed chair and a highball glass, and slip into a daze. On Thursdays, there's a free wine hour from 5.30-6.30, which brings in a larger crowd that generally stays substantially later. What sets this bar apart is the quality and variety of their cocktails. Be warned, they come on strong, so if you're going to try to make it through the whole list (which I did), you should bring a friend or two to share them (which I didn't). Highlights include, in my preferential order: Penicillin+ This is A Lounge's take on an old classic, and the first drink I ordered. It's listed as being Yamazaki 12-year, Ginger, Honey, Lemon, and Ardbeg, this cocktail instead included Habiki as the base, with a Laphroaig float (welcome substitutions, for the record). The honey mellowed out the smokiness of the Laphroaig beautifully, and, overall, this was a well-balanced cocktail with several layers of complexity and flavor. Next up was a Blood & Sand, the concoction from the eponymous 1922 bullfighter film, according to the lovely Melani, who was so artfully mixing drinks behind the bar. This one's also scotch-based, with a dash of Aperol and a healthy splash of Dolin vermouth - quite tasty. I also tried the Honeycomb, which combines tequila, honey, Pernod, and lemon for a refreshing take on a margarita, less the salted rim. Lastly, there was the Yoshinori Red 100, an exclusive in-house offering celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the Cherry Blossom Festival. I had stopped writing down ingredients by this point, so you'll just have to go and try one for yourself. Sit for a while, sip for a while, and be glad you stopped in.

However, I was proven wrong this last trip to DC, and had a great time catching up with friends with relaxing views of the Washington Monument right here at The Graham Hotel. We made a reservation for afternoon drinks on a Saturday, but ended up just waltzing in and finding a seat on the backside facing the monuments. Couches and mini tables lined the area so you can feel free to move around as space permits. The view from here was pretty badass... ...made only better by great company and some good bites. We ordered the Lobster Roll ($15) which came with two, individual sized rolls with plantain chips. The rolls were actually pretty damn good and made for a great summer snack. For sips, we split a Scorpion Bowl ($25) which ended up lasting for nearly three hours! Jaymie S. assured me it was strong, but I had other thoughts. It's so much fun to drink out of a tiki bowl especially in such a Historic city over a great view. We never felt rushed during our stay and ended up hanging out until it was time for dinner. This was a great way to spend an afternoon in DC!

Could not ask for a better parking situation. Ordering was almost seamless. We got there at 1 o'clock, middle of the day on 4/18, plenty of empty tables. We went up to the bartender to take our order, and then gave them our table number and they delivered it. The QR code on the table only shows you the menu. It is not used for ordering, which was odd these days. Chill and super awesome bartender with the mother of all hickeys. Good pours. No Skrewball :-( I had the special, two hot dogs with tater tots. When it said double, I wasn't sure if that meant double the tater tots, but that meant actually two hot dogs. Really good. I also had the other special, the two pancakes. I meant to get the sausage, but they gave me the bacon instead. It was great. Well worth it. I thought that was the better value of the meals. They got a lot of board and card games. Very laid-back atmosphere, 90s and early 2000s pop on the music, comfortable seating, and good food. The prices were reasonable. This is one area that I think we are just going to have to deal with for quite some time. The give-and-take of prices,. Smothered tater tots, pancakes, two hotdogs with some tater tots, and three drinks came out to ~$55. NOT. BAD. Was it worth it? If this had been just a normal restaurant, I would've said no. It would've been more worth it if it had been about $40. But... nobody made us pay to use the board games, or the card games, and we sat there for three hours and had a really good time. So based on that, the fact they provide a venue for playing these games and hanging out for a few hours makes it all worth it. Really strange thing was that there was this balding guy with a beard that randomly showed up as a waiter. We had been dealing with a bartender, so this guy, kind of rude came on to us and we weren't sure what to do with him. He kind of blocked me from paying the bartender. Rude. Not a hangout spot every day, but certainly once a week, maybe once a month or more, definitely a place to meet up if you got a group. I was really surprised by the diversity of the people that were there. A lot of chess players, a whole table of middle-aged women, lots of different people playing games. I would give them five stars, but not quite perfect. The rude guy at the end was so odd. Otherwise, great location, great parking, the food was good, good value, and fun.
