Stopped here for a quick lunch between appointments... everyone is super nice and welcoming service is great! It's a cute restaurant laid out really nice and gives a great vibe. The food is amazing!' The best Blt I have ever had I know it's an easy sandwich but they made it so well and put an amazing twist on it!

This was by far the best meal we had in DC. Service was quick, incredibly friendly and perfect. Burger and fries were delicious. Definitely look forward to coming back.

Came here to try out the mac and cheese and sad to say it was not my favorite. I wanted it to have way more flavor and seasoning. Under the top layer of baked cheese there's nothing going on. I also tried the highly rated burgers. It was good but I don't think I'm in a rush to go back for it either. Surprising to me, the best part of the meal was the sweet potato fries! I could eat those endlessly. The staff were attentive and friendly. They have sitting inside but also a really nice outdoor patio.

It was decent! Overall we were hungry and needed a quick bite and saw Dukes had some availability on a Saturday night. We were seated outside in the heated patio which was totally fine. For food we had the Tuna Melt, Caesar salad and Waygu burger. The Tuna melt was good but honestly was a little bland which is not typically the case on a tuna melt. It was good though and perfectly cooked and full of tuna. The wagyu burger was particularly good with the onion jam really elevating the dish. Service was good - nothing special but no complaints whatsoever. Overall I would come back to Dukes for a quick bite!

I felt underwhelmed given that it was voted DC's best burger. The place is cute though! It's large with some outdoor seating options. Our server was also super sweet and accommodating given the large group I was with. I tried the proper burger with a side of their sweet potato fries. I liked that the burger was served on a potato bun, but it was so greasy and the acidity of the pickles and onion did nothing to cut through it. The bun on the bottom was also soaked and kind of fell apart, so the structural integrity of this burger was also a little questionable. The sweet potato fries were way too soft in my opinion. I love an occasional soggy fry, but the lack of crunch made them rather unenjoyable to eat.

It's holiday season so that means plenty of Christmas inspired pop ups. I got to check this gingerbread land one out which is in a series of several holiday pop ups at different duke's grocery locations throughout the area, with each one having a different theme. It's a pretty quaint space and the pop up is located on the second floor, with all the festive decorations you can imagine. I arrived not too long after they opened so service was quick and the server was energetic and engaging with the few of us that were in the space. Their holiday inspired cocktail options included a tootsie roll'd old fashion, gingerbread lane mule, and a peppermint espresso martini (each $14). I decided to try the mule and the martini, the martini was probably my favorite of the two I wasn't sure how well a peppermint vodka base would go but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and compliment of the ingredients. The gingerbread mule was a bit more potent and maybe the one I had had a bit too much lime juice so I didn't truly get to appreciate how the overall flavors would mimic the taste of gingerbread but still a decent drink. All in all it was a cool spot to check out.

My friend found this place online and I'm so glad she did as it was a nice walk from the hotel. The staff was very friend. The decor was so cool that it makes you wish you lived closer so you can be a regular. The food was tasty. I had the burger and fries and was glad there was plenty for later that evening. They have upstairs and outside seating Next time I'm in DC .. I'll be back.

Came here on a Friday and was lucky enough to get a table! I ordered the waygu burger with sweet potato fries and the fries were perfectly done! The burger itself was the perfect size, although I asked for no sauce and they forgot but oh well. Their outdoor area seems super great for the summer. Can't wait to come back!

    Mac and cheese

The mac and cheese here is so good. It's got a subtle truffle flavor to it that makes it unique. They have patio seating out front which would be perfect for nice summer days.

    British breakfast
    Jordan N.

Duke's Grocery is good for burgers. They even have good brunch. I'm not entirely wowed by it, but their British breakfast was enjoyable, and I believe better than their chicken & waffles. However, I will admit that a breakfast plate with sausage can be better had by another place nearby. Still, you can't go wrong here, and in the winter, with the numerous indoor seating they offer in this renovated location, it's a safe choice. Staff was friendly although a bit uncompromising when it came to making substitutions. Prices were decent. The renovation makes the vibe a bit better - as there's no longer creaky floors, and the floors seem to be nicely polished. It essentially looks and feels like a new restaurant rather than a rusty dive-joint it used to be.

    Is the patio Heated?

Yes it is! There are dedicated heaters inside the strEATery tables, plus tall heaters at the patio tables. Enjoy hot cocktails from the Toddy Bar!

    Are kids allowed?

Yes they are! My son loves the burger and my daughter likes the Mac and Cheese 😊

    Are you open now?

Yes, open for in person dining too!

Do they take reservations or call ahead?

No but you never really wait more than 10-15 min on weekdays/late night and there's always a seat at the bar!

Can I order the proper burger with cheddar cheese and add bacon?

Absolutely. I've done that a handful of times before. They're pretty good with substitutions and/or additions.

    Can I order takeout?

Yes, but only in person at the bar. They do not accept orders over the phone.

Is this place good for vegetarians?

They definitely have veggie options but its not what they're known for.

Can dishes such as the burger be made dairy free?

I know they don't allow any modifications to their burger, but I can't speak for the rest of the menu

The beer selection is incredible, vibes are solid - it is pretty old world and upscale for a beer joint - but if you are looking for a full meal vegetarians should go elsewhere. They *have* vegetarian options but it's one of those things where they do the bare minimum because they have to and your choices are like...the one thing. Which leads me to the one vegetarian entree, the risotto. It was fine. Not mindblowing. Small portion for the price - small portions all around, frankly. See my pic. Our server, who was impressively attentive/efficient given that he was the only person making the rounds to all of the tables in the upstairs room, which were packed because of the World Cup, recommended getting.the brussels sprouts small plate without bacon, so I did. I did not like it. It came with pomegranate seeds and a sauce that were sweet but then had parmesan and savory flavors that did not go. I suspect the salty, fatty bacon was important to balancing out these flavors. People I was with got house pickles, fries and meatballs which all appeared solid. The portions for the fries and meatballs were pretty teeny for the price IMO. Like I said, beer selection is out of this world. Not mad at the prices or portions there, especially given that it's largely imported. Is this personally a place I would make a go to? No. Only if I am taking out a friend who is super into beer tasting. But if I were super into French and Belgian beer and or really liked that kind of food (eg mussels and very meaty Northern European dishes) ? Maybe. So my personal recommendation is to come, have beer, enjoy the ambiance, and treat food as an afterthought for if you need something to eat.

Thank you for having that. It's a detail that many bars forget but I can relax and enjoy my stay more when I know my belongings are safely tucked away. We got the Smorgesboard and Saffron Mussels. Both were EXCELLENT. The Mister got a few beers. The Smorgesboard had every charcuterie option and it was really fun building the perfect bite. I thought it was absolutely worth the price. I've paid more for less. Let me take a moment and collect myself before I talk about the Saffron Mussels. They were freaking amazing. The broth was mildly spicy, a powerful punch of salty herby flavor that paired wonderfully with the mussels. They were perfectly cooked with a tender chew. Served with fries and chunks of bread to sop up all that glorious broth. If you're thinking about getting the mussels, just do it. Truly, one of the best pot of mussels I've had. We are just visiting the area, but I'd definitely come back the next time I'm in town. What a delightful surprise to find this place.

I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming. Great for a date, a group, or even just sitting at the bar solo with a good beer and good conversation with the bartender.
