I was pleasantly surprised by this hole in the wall bar. There is metered street parking available on the street in front of the place and there are commercial lots in a reasonable walking distance. This bar has a lot going on. They have a few pools tables, dart boards, video games and a digital juke box. They also have some very savory signature cocktails. They were delicious. The place was well lit for a bar and they had hip-hop music playing in the background. I went on a Friday night and there was a decent mixed crowd there. They place has 2 bar areas with seating and there is a limited amount of hi top seating available around the bar. There are pool tables in both areas. The staff there was friendly enough, but I will admit that my interaction with them was limited. I was not there long, but I still enjoyed my time there. First time here and what a time we had! They honor happy hour as soon as they open and there are quite a few options for HH. We sat at the bar and were served by Jason (great attitude and service!). They have a 90's like setup with little elements of space/rockets throughout. There's also a bunch of games; pool, darts, skeeball and a Photo Booth. Pretty cool underground bar. They don't have food so you can bring food in to have with your drinks. I suggest the peanut butter cup cocktail. It's great cocktail after a long day that definitely a dessert feel to it. The bartender was quite energetic and bouncing to the music. For note if you bring in like bottles or something if you were coming from like Cap Center or something they store it in their fridge until you leave as you can't bring outside stuff in. read more

What a find! We came to this place with no expectations but to get a drink or two and possibly move on to the next bar but ended up staying put until it was time call it a night. We weren't expecting too much action here since it we were stopping by this random dive bar in the middle of the week and a bit late but this place got pretty packed as the night went on. Despite the crowd, the bartender was friendly and pretty quick to get us our drinks. Not only were the bartenders great but the crowd here was just as awesome. Seriously a great place to get some drinks, socialize and meet some new friends. There are a lot of things to do here from video games, darts to billiards. The billoards tables are rented by the hour so there is a potential of waiting for table to open up but luckily we were able to get on wothout having to wait too long. It would be cool if one of the tables was pay to play instead of pay by the hour. Either way, still a great place as there is plenty to do while you wait. This is my go-to casual fun night out bar when I'm in town. I stumbled across it back in 2008 when I didn't know anyone in DC, spotted the little doorway on 7th, saw the narrow stairway watched over by a 60's-era TV robot leading down to a mysterious basement level and said to myself "oh man, I need to check THIS place out." It's a classic "games" bar, with lots of pool tables and darts boards and a smattering of shuffleboard tables and arcade games. The drinks are fairly reasonable, the clientele mixed, and the pretension set to absolutely zero. In a famously dressy town, there's no code here to stop you from enjoying a simple but fun, almost old fashioned, in a way, night out. People were just huddled in groups. Music was decent. They have a music machine that I guess you pay to play the songs you want. But we recently went and the bartender was so rude and gossiping about me and my friend group, to other customers at the bar to the point where we could hear them talking. So rocket bar is directly across from the Capital One Arena. Ladies, please be mindful of your shoes because it is a steep walk down to the basement level where the entrance of the bar is. Thankfully, the boots I had on were good enough for the walk down. Once we got inside, the establishment was quite large. It was extremely packed. We arrived around 10:30 PM. People were literally everywhere. They do have multiple bars throughout which I'm sure helps with the demand. We were coming to the bar to play pool after dinner, however, the staff member running the pool area told us it would probably be a very long wait. We added our name to the list, nonetheless, and wait to find a place for us to sit. An important thing to note is that they do not serve food. I think you are able to bring in your own food, we did not do that since we went to dinner before coming to the bar. There are a lot of pool tables and some arcade games to keep you busy. I will say that the patrons are a very young crowd. I definitely will say all of them were in their 20s. So if you're looking for a spot to play pool with a bit more of a mature crowd, this isn't it. We did find our way to a bar in the back and grabbed two seats at the bar to have drinks. The bartender was extremely nice and attentive. He made me a green apple martini made with Crown apple which was amazing. I had a few of those before we left. We ended up staying for about an hour because due to the number of patrons, we would never get called to play pool. I don't believe there is a time limit for the pool tables which add to the length of the waitlist. So we ended up leaving. read more

I've frequented this bar for the past couple of years. It's a nice concept no doubt however few days my friend and I went there and the bartender (Asian) decided to bring a separate device for payment-refusing to use our card on the "machine" right behind her even though she used it for all other patrons. We signed the "special" device she chose to only provided to us and she did not remember to provide the receipt even though we chose "print receipt". I monitored her racist action for at least 15 mins based on how she never asked all other patrons to use a separate device for payment. Then after 20 mins I proceeded to ask her for the receipt that she could have handed to us if she had used the computer behind her because it would have printed two-one for het to keep and one for us. She brought the receipt and had the audacity to chastise us for asking for the receipt later. The fact that she displayed "segregation" by visibly showing that she did not want any contact with our card nor us touching her pen was enough reason for me to write this review. It's a complete shame to experience such behavior in this modern day. I told her straight up about what she did however she had a rebuttal and that again was lack of accountability and opportunity to correct her mistakes. read more

Easy bar with lots of games & good for groups! Plenty of seating & happy hour runs until 8. We got there at 9 PM on a Friday (no concerts or games that night) and there was a handful of people. You had to walk down a bunch of stairs (bar is in a basement) and I didn't see an elevator so not accessible. There is a lot of security and they check all your bags. Outside the bar is a little chaotic especially as the night gets late. You have to call an Uber from the street since there's not much service in the basement. Overall if you're in the area it's a solid bar choice but I wouldn't make a special trip there. read more

Absolutely enjoyed my visit to Rocket Bar. We arrived around 8pm on a Saturday with zero expectations and just hopes to shoot some pool with my brother. It was his birthday weekend and the bartender Bambi made sure we had a great time! She has this quirky, sarcastic personality that we enjoyed and really works the bar well. We signed up for pool fearing we'd never get to play since the tables are rented out for unlimited time. I think we made it at a good time because we got a table within an hour or two! It was perfect timing since we had a few drinks and were warmed up. We ended up playing for a few hours with no issues. All the staff we encountered were great. Walking in is a total experience of an underground bar. It was very big and I was not expecting the bar to be as big as it was. They had pool tables, a little game area and three different bars. This place I highly recommend for larger groups, and a casual feel. We are not from Washington DC, but we had a great bartender named Bambi. She told us everywhere we should go to and even give us a taste of a beer to see if we even liked the beer. I mean that you walk down these little stairs and it's actually a pretty large bar to hang out at. They have tons and tons of games.
