Awesome little place! Boyfriend and I were waiting for the Matt Rife Comedy Show and were in there for awhile. Had the pomegranate cider and more. Food was underwhelming, mostly because my garlic fries were undercooked and partially cold in the middles. But I didn't expect 5 star food. Staff was all friendly and the bar is divey, eclectic and awesome. Lots to look at there for sure. We were reading all the stickers.

We came here for a comedy show. The tickets said a 2 order minimum was required per patron, but honestly after seeing the limited menu (as well as the prices) I was second guessing my decision to come to the show. The food did take an incredibly long time to come out. At first I thought maybe it's because the show had started expect them other patrons were still getting their drinks. When intermission came I asked our server about the food and she looked confused and asked what we'd ordered. She checked the machine and I don't know if the order hadn't been inputted or what but we finally got our food. It wasn't anything impressive and seemed very standard for bar food; larger servings, cheap ingredients, and a lingering unpleasant feel after eating. While I wouldn't come here for the food I did enjoy the comedy show..maybe next time I'll just order two overpriced sodas and call it good. What we got: Chicken Nachos - 3* average large helping of bar nachos. I did think the chicken was really good and moist. The cheese was standard squirt-y nacho cheese. The jalapenos added a nice touch of spice. I will say I appreciated how they had colorful chips. Pork Bratwurst - 3.5* I actually enjoyed this. The bratwurst had a good flavor and the pretzel bun was very good. I didn't like the large portion of fries and how it didn't come with any dipping sauces.

So this is kind of a mixed review being that I attended a Hamilton lecture put on by Profs and Pints which I highly recommend. The lecturer is Dr. Richard Bell, a history professor at my alma mater, UMCP. The lecture is 5 stars all the way. As for the location that's more a 3 star review. It's a dive bar in Dupont that has a minimum of 2 items per order. Inside it is so darkly lit that you will have trouble reading the menu. The food menu is small and basic bar food items like wings, burgers, and fries. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which was huge and came with waffle fries. It was tasty but was lukewarm in temperature not hot. As far the beer, they were out of some selections but the orange flavored vodka drink I had was nicely tart and sweet. Overall, I would come back for another show either by Profs and Pints or DC Comedy Loft which also host events here.

Love that this place feels like an establishment straight out of Harry Potter. It is a bit odd as you walk in and the place looks like apartments and a student dorm bouncer checks your id. Once inside, it is a neat bar! They have trivia nights that are a lot of fun. The bigger the group the better odds you have of knowing the questions, more brains. The food is good. The service is decent. The overall vibe is fun! My favorite parts were the trivia and atmosphere.

I came here for the first tome for a comedy show to see David Arnold. The show was amazing. I laughed the entire time. I liked the low key vibe of this place. I ordered boneless wings, fries, and a cranberry vodka. The food was good and the drink was good and strong. My reasoning for 3 stars was that the service was extremely slow. It took time to see our waitress where we had to ask someone else for things. Service definitely needs to improve since they have a 2 item purchase requirement.

Went to go see Kvon the only Persian comedian in the United States. He is such a creative, and humbled comedian who knows how to make people of all color really laugh. I believe that he is next after Kevin Hart on the list. My favorite Kvon slogan is..."Once you go Persian you don't need another version." Other than the comedy the food at this place is ok, but not the best. Could be top notch if they change a few things, and don't unfreeze the chicken wings, but the waiting service was on point. The fact that they acknowledge active duty military and veterans made my evening. So please be sure to leave a reasonable tip for the 50% off discount they offer. That's more than enough. They need to hire some Latin loving monkey-pigeon comedians that really know how to make people laugh and are also Persian. Just my thoughts! I'd pay to go see them.

This is a review of the bar and not a comedy show. Came here for a beer event (bourbon county release party). To give context, it's a beer that's released annually and this place was chose to have the beer (and it's variants) on tap at this place. Venue had plenty of seating and we were quickly seated. We were handed menus (attached) which had all the bourbon county options but didn't include any pricing on it. Service was extremely slow and it took a while for our waiter to come back. We inquired about the prices and he had no idea.. and had to go back to figure out the prices. It seemed odd to be hosting a beer release party and not have the prices on the menu and have the waiter not know the price of the beer. In any case, we got our beer which was good. We also ordered an order of fries to munch on. Attached is what we received. There was maybe 3 full fries in the entire batch. The rest were the end buds that they shouldn't even be serving. We were definitely disappointed in them and we sent the fries back. Our second batch was no different. The top portion of fries were full length potato fries and the "fries" underneath were a bunch of buds. I didn't feel like complaining any further but certainly was still disappointed. Overall: service was slow, and this bar failed to execute the most basic of bar foods: French fries.

Happy Hour here was such a pleasant surprise on our recent visit to the area…read more We wanted a place to grab a drink before dinner and my husband suggested The Sovereign. It seemed more of a craft beer place and did not strike my fancy at first for that reason, but I was game to give it a try. I'm glad I did! We arrived during their happy hour (from 5-6:30) and chose to sit in the cozier and quieter downstairs bar. Upstairs was a little more rowdy and like a sports bar - nothing wrong with that, just not our vibe that night. The bartender greeted us promptly, and we chose a few things from the happy hour menu: Getting Alsace-y with Everyone for our drink, then the fries and Belgian meatballs. The drink was refreshing and the food was very flavorful and balanced. All said and done, we agreed that this was our favorite place we visited that evening. Would definitely recommend checking it out, particularly for happy hour.

I had a hard time making an order. I really don't like standing around at a bar aimlessly hoping for the bartender to call on me. That was the situation I was in here. Once I got the bartenders attention it was easy and quick to get my drink, it just took a while and its annoying when they go to other people who got there after you first. The bar is full of seating too, so you have to stand behind people who are already sat and drinking to try to flag them down which feels awkward. The drinks were good though and the atmosphere was decent.

Novice was the bartender and recommended the Proper burger. I added my typical fries and a Diet Coke. The burger came out quickly. Right off the bat, it's visually amazing. A properly stacked Burger is hard to find. The 2 best things about this burger are 1. The taste , and 2. The form of the burger. The taste is absolutely fantastic. The Gouda paired perfectly with the red onions and the perfectly cooked, juicy beef patties. The aioli was just enough and not overbearing, like looking at a painting of a castle and noticing the subtle blurred background of misty forest. The arugula added another layer of flavor that helped kick this burger into the highest echelons of Burger superiority. And of course, the brioche bun was perfect for this style of burger. It kept its shape while I gently smushed it down in my hands. The entire burger kept its shape and didn't fall apart like some other Burgers will. As I sank my teeth into the first bite, the first thing I noticed was all the flavors blending together. Each bite afterwards just added to my mystified and puzzled bewilderment. The texture was moist and soft. As I chewed and swallowed each morsel, I began to think to myself, is this it? Is my search over? Is this the BEST burger in the country? Never had I tasted such a wonderful burger! (Sorry In-N-Out 2x1, raw onions, chopped chilis, toasted bun, you are no longer on the top of my list). As I neared completion of my newly discovered epitome of gluttonous desires, a feeling of sadness started to take over. I would be done with the burger in a few more bites, and with that, my journey would conclude. I sat there, staring at what would be my final bite. The last bit of pleasure in between my slender fingers, still dripping with the juices God had placed there after it was grilled to perfection in the Kitchen. I placed the final delectable piece into my mouth. I spent what felt like an eternity chewing this treasure before finally gulping down the goblet of wonder. What came after was a feeling of pure bliss. I had finally done it. All the years, all the time dedicated to finding the best Burger ever, is complete. I called my wife and told her "Honey, it's time. I'm coming home." The fries were ok.

They are happy to recommend beer for your taste, and let you sample. It can be very busy and difficult to get a seat at the bar or get a table on a Friday or Saturday evening. I understand not really putting crab, since most crab rangoons skimp on that (although it's disappointing for the cost), but to not put more than a tiny smear of cream cheese and to have hardly any sauce too? It was so dry, it really made me sad. Neither of those ingredients are expensive enough to justify being stingy. The concept alone should have made this a home run, but it was like if you bit into a crab rangoon and it was empty. I hope this was an off night because the amount they charged for what was basically just a slice of bread was shocking. It's spacious and seems like a fun place to hang out but I am really hesitating to order food here again despite adoring Mallard downstairs. The food quality is like night and day.
