Printing out passes was pointless because the line to get in w/out paying was ridiculously long. So paying a staggering $20 (sarcasm) is worth it, especially when you've been pregaming for 2 hours & you're wearing heels. I came here for a good friend's birthday & she'd reserved a table. This is the best thing to do, honestly. The first floor gets super packed and appears to go on forever. The first plays a mix of top 40 & techno. The second and third floors seem to have a Latin flair & the fourth is the best mix of them all. I swear I only sat down to cool off/rest--I don't know the name of last night's DJ but he was great. Three stars because the bouncers/bodyguards/security are clueless, rude and disgusting. Considered 3.5 stars because the 'table girls' & security were very attentive all night. Security even checked to see if we knew these 'scalawags' that were trying to ease into our booth...now that's security!! I'd definitely return though. I actually liked Ultrabar more than what I expected. For one, I loved the area -- not in a sketchy DC area like FUR and there are plenty of night life within a mile radius that the streets aren't empty at night/morning. I also like the security -- I felt like if I was there with some girlfriends instead of my boyfriend, I would still feel safe. They weren't mean, but rather helpful. They also check IDs pretty well and keep people in order. The music was pretty good -- 4 options for 4 floors. The lighting was rather light for a club but it's good to see faces. The age group is young, around 18-30, with occasional older guys. Overall, it's a good crowd - not too trashy, mostly sexy and classy. read more

After reading these reviews I was hesitant to host my gf's birthday party at ultra bar. But I must I was pleasently surprised. It had a latin floor for salsa dancing which I love, and a mainfloor with a balcony overlooking it with anouther bar! Ps. I like to drink and dance sooooooo this was AMAZING to me lol. But yea def. worth the cover(20$) or in my case vip table for my girls birthday. The rest of our guests said the clubs guest list line was fast. They showed up at 1030ish and I arrived earlier for open bar X) lol. So minus the fact these stairs are a death trap (no seriously my hip is beyond bruised) and the bartender told my friend $5 for a drink and once she poured it changed it to $10, this place is goo....o wait I forgot about the pretensious fool that pulled me to VIP and was then mad when I wouldn't slut myself out to him. ALWAYS HAD FUN EVERY TIME I WENT THERE. 3 FLOORS OF GREAT MUSIC! They tend to have Latin on 1 floor and Top 40 on the others. Security is tight, never once saw a fight break out. To be honest, I had one guy apologize profusely for stepping on my shoe(which was no big deal.) Suggestions: Best days to go I would say are Fridays and Saturdays to have the best "whole" experience. I wasn't sure whether to rate it two or three stars. The lines were long, the bouncers were a little rude, and the crowd was younger (probably because they allow 18 and over). The drinks were expensive, so we didn't buy any. There were also a lot of guys just looking for girls to grind on. It was also a nightmare getting out because people crowded the entrance. On the other hand, I think we knew what we were getting into. The music was decent, so we had a good time dancing. And I did like the different floors, although I was dissapointed that the latin floor didn't play a lot of salsa. I might go back if I feel like going to a dance club. I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Genuinely the saddest, lamest place I have ever been. I felt like I was at a school prom with awful music, a nearly empty dance floor and kids who looked hardly 18. Online it said free admission before 11pm and I was charged $20 at 10:45pm, even after protesting. Coat check was $4 but they only took cash, which meant I had to pay a $3 fee to withdraw $4 from the atm at the club. That was stupid because we ended up leaving about 20 minutes after we got there. Been coming here since it was called Home. Decent....for a night out.... Small 4 story club. with 2 mezzanines Main floor gets sweaty crowded touch a million people type. The basement is never ever crowded....there is a bar there and bathrooms....if you wanna chill out, go there....third floor is the spanish floor, between the main floor and the spanish floor are two small mezzanine levels as well. Each floor has a different taste which is cool only downside is that in order to buy a drink with your card you have to open a tab and you must spend at least 30$ which is wackkkk!!! I went with some friends on Saturday for ladies night. I got in for free since I'm 21, so that was nice. I don't think I'd pay to go in there, so if I go again it'll be on a Saturday. Coat check is $4 which isn't bad. The drinks are ridiculously small and way overpriced. Most of our drinks were between $8-10 for like... 4oz worth of drink... I wish there were negative stars... Ultrabar is a 'lux'-style club with very good music and cool decor. It has multiple floors with different dance floors. The place gets very crowded, often to the point of not even having room to dance. The drinks are horribly overpriced, I spent $18 for a watered down crown and ginger. The staff at Ultrabar is the WORST. Let me rephrase that, the staff at Ultrabar are the worst group of scumbags I've ever witnessed in DC. They are rude, very pushy and abusive. I don't club very often in Chinatown, but decided to make a big group night at Ultrabar for a friend's 30th birthday. I pre-arranged tables at the second floor (strangely called Bedroom), and got all my friends - 20 in all - on the guestlist for a very good deal. I thought the decor was very nice, the temperature was well maintained, and never got to that sweltering heat that is seen so often in clubs. The promoters and bouncers were polite and very helpful - I think they probably respond to clients....i.e. they listen and respond to sober, articulate requests, and ignore the whinings and irrational behavior that emits from drunken fools. Our waitress was attentive and efficient, and kept the mixers, glasses and ice buckets supplied at all times. Having said that, the only reason I scored the club low was because of the impeccable horrible taste of the DJ. He looked and performed like an out-of-sync, unimaginative troll that had just dug out of his hole after 20 years. The music was incredibly lousy - however I complained politely but articulately to the promoter, and he let me create my own list of songs which the DJ then played. You can't really ask much more from managers at a club. So overall, every person in our party of 20 people had a good time. Very Diverse Even though I'm not really into clubs, I have to admit that this was a pretty good place. For starters, it has 4 floors...on the ground floor you have you're typical dance floor, bar, and popular music playing. I can't remember too much of what was going on on the bottom floor. The 2nd floor was totally dedicated to salsa and all that is popular Latino music and the 3rd floor was playing all reggae. It does get a bit hot in there but its not unbearable. i've been to this club 3 times but i've never actually been inside of it. the bouncers i've encountered are dicks. the first time they wouldn't let me in cause it was "too late." they close at 3am, my friend and i got there at 2am. they let my friend in but not me, and while she was partying, i was arguing with the bouncers. they looked so pleased with themselves too for making me upset. then the other 2 times they wouldn't let me in because they could smell alcohol on my breath. even though they let my friends in who had also been drinking. pretty much everyone who goes there drinks before coming. so anyway, they're jerks. they look so satisfied for ruining teenagers' nights. it looks like a fun time inside the club but i've even sometimes heard it's really lame. i don't think it's worth it to go there. and spend $20 for a mediocre night read more

Depends on the night, but I liked going on Thursdays for the EDC nights. There are 4 or 5 floors here, and if you go on a weekend night, there is different music on each floor. We would often go here if we couldn't all decide on one type of music we wanted to dance to. They always advertise free entry, but that seemed to only apply when we went as a larger group of girls, but not if we mixed with guys. It's easy to find guys who will buy you a drink here, which is surprising because they are pretty pricey. I was really looking for guys to buy them, but I guess it would have been proper to say that there seemed to always be guys here just willing to buy drinks, I assume in the hopes that we'd go home with them. haha read more

If you want to get in for the open bar - get there early. if you think that there wouldn't be a line at 9pm, you'd be wrong. they make the line move veeeeeery sloooooowly so that they're not giving away lots of free drinks. we were waiting in line right up until 10pm, and there was not many people inside when we finally got in, and got one drink during the open bar timeframe. I generally go to this place on Thursdays because they get international DJ's in to play that night. The sound system is pretty good, as are the lights and the decor, and the drinks at the bar are plenty strong. Sometimes the dance floor gets a little packed, so it can be difficult to dance, but at least there are multiple floors, the upshot of which being that if one gets tired of listening to a certain style of music, they can switch floors and take a breather. This is by no means a ringing endorsement, more like 'this is about as good as you are gonna get in DC, so ya might as well go and have fun." I came back to Ultrabar this past weekend and my perception of it has not changed. There are still the same specials (however, I did get charged $8.00 for the $6.00 Absolut vodka specials) and the music is okay, I wish they would play actual club music, not top 40 played out tunes. The four level dance club is what appeals to me most about this place. There are balconies above the main floor so you can peoplewatch. There are a few regulars and always some new faces. It is 18+ so you have the wristbands and the underagers have the dreaded 'I'm not 21' black Xs. The bartenders are some of the friendliest aroundy and service is quick. Prices, prices, prices. You do have to pay for water ($4/bottle not from the dispenser--I was not given the option. Ridiculous, everywhere else you get it for free). Water is not a commodity, but a natural resource! The drinks are still expensive, but not the most expensive in DC and they are a little bit bigger than you would get anywhere else. Coat check: I felt like was a little expensive ($4 per item). The crowd has seem to have gotten worse. Like a previous reviewer said, "a lot of creepier older guys" and guys who just follow you around and leer. I experienced this, I always spotted the same guys over and over again on each floor. But a lot of nice people too! And some people just don't wear deodarant. I hung out with a few people who became my friends for the night. The location is still great and still a popular hot spot in DC. Guest List option is still available and club is open late. This is one of the worst bars/clubs in DC - if you're looking for a good time, nice ambience, chill staff - you won't find it here, go somewhere else (ie. anything in Adams Morgan area). First of all, as another reviewer wrote about, the "security staff" are extremely sketchy. They seem to congregate outside, either leering at the people going in or making unnecessary lewd or rude comments. Rather disgusting, and extremely off-putting. Secondly, the actual club is really quite pathetic. The music selection is piss-poor and as the actual area is very small (yes there are multiple levels, but the perimeter of the space is tiny) - the vibe is awkward and really not conducive to actual dancing. I went into Ultrabar once, and really that's enough. The place seems rather drab, if not out right sketch, and the ambience is really terrible. It's OK. Not terrible but not great. The tables you buy private for the night with bottles are nothing to what I am used to coming from New York. I have quite a few 20 year old friends and friends whose girlfriends are, so it's a nice place we can all go to together. Which is a defiant plus. However it's an EXTREMELY awkward space. It's long and not wide at all. Really hard to walk through, really, really, really hard. Many levels, again to hard to travel to all, a lot of small weird rooms to walk through. It pains me to write this review because Ultrabar used to be my go to place. If anybody asked what my favorite DC club was, I would have chosen Ultrabar hands down. It was a guaranteed good time. My most recent (and probably last) visit quite frankly sucked. My friends and I had table reservations. Upon getting in line not only was there some mix up with the reservations, we also had to wait in line while random groups of people were escorted past us. I'm pretty sure these groups did not spend $300 for a table. I also couldn't help but notice how small in stature many of the attendees were. Is America getting fatter AND shorter?? We finally get led into the club and up to the table that had been reserved. Well looks as though the table was already taken by a large group. The cocktail waitresses or whatever their job is, looked back and forth at each other confused. At this point I was beginning to lose my temper. Reservations are very expensive and everything seemed disorganized from the very beginning. After some chatter back and forth they stuck us in a corner on the top floor. The AC was intense and on full blast so we moved to a lower level table. A few minutes in at our new table, another group of women sat at the table next to us. I was fortunate enough to be next to the one chick doing gangnum style the entire night. I know bad dancing is not Ultrabar's fault; it was just the diarrhea icing on a shit cake. One positive however are the bouncers. They are always very nice and don't throw their weight around like some other meatheads do. Overall we spent close to $500 and I feel as though service should have been superior considering the obscene amount of money spent for one night that was a gigantic let down. read more

Let me start by saying if I could give this club a lower rating I would. The service, the quality, and just every aspect literally added up to the worst club experience I have ever had. Why may you ask? Let me provide you with the abbreviated list rank by top importance. 1) We had a table reservation and to hold it through the night they required my friend's LICENSE and CREDIT CARD (I have never heard of anyone need both; I use to bartend!). The waitress had it and then GAVE IT ALL AWAY on accident to a table that was being thrown out. She lives in NYC and needed all of that to get on the train.They told us it would be comped and a week later CHARGED her account. 2) They now refuse to answer the phone when she calls or put her on hold for so long she is forced to disconnect. Did I mention they girl they gave the card to looked nothing like my friend and she didn't tell us until the end of the night. 3) One of the other table's VOMITED on our table and my purse...they never cleaned it up for us...I ended up just getting my stuff out of my purse and leaving it there. 4) We were told by buying a table we would not have to wait in line. We got there and had to wait in line. When we said we had a table reserve the guy told us to get back in the general line. Then 10 minutes later another bouncer tried to talk us into BUYING A TABLE so we could skip the line. When we repeated we had one and re-gave the name for the 3rd time they let us in. 5) When drinks were spilled and to the point they needed to be mopped up at the tables they never did even if asked. We were all slipping and sliding ALL NIGHT.We tried cleaning it up with napkins ourselves. My best friend even SPRAINED HER WRIST because of it. 6) We are pretty sure they initially lost our reservation and then were trying to play it off. I've been there several times. My experience varies each time, and it really depends on crowds that night. Sometimes, the crowd is too young, and it attracts older people who act strange. Most of the time, line is too long, and they sometimes have us wait in the wrong line. They should do better crowd control outside. It is ridiculous. Music is great. I enjoy different kind of music in all floors. btw, I would not pay $20 to get in. It's not worth it. Put yourself on guest list and try to come before 11 or 12. if you can not make it on time, walk away. You have no idea what kind of crowd you are going to run into until you get inside. Terrible club. Wouldn't recommend it all. Every time I go I have a issue with the black short guy that checks IDs. He abuses his power to let people in time after time. Last night I arrived and my friend couldn't get in the club because of a dress code violation (cool we gave him the keys to head to the car). He comes back with a attitude and proceeds to kick us out after we asked a question about the dress code. We had no hostile energy just simply asking a question. His energy is weird every time we go but last night did it for us. The whole staff has weird aggressive energy unfit for business. After spending over $100 myself and with friends paying a lot of money to be in the VIP area, the staff was incredibly rude and arrogant. Tony was the only reasonable bouncer, everyone else was very hostile and tried to pick fights with our group of friends. Think back to high school when the bully would fight you if you didn't bow down to him, that is basically how the staff acts; they were picking fights and trying to throw people out for absolutely no reason other than they didn't like how they looked. So when I was writing that review of P.O.V. talking about the type of bar/club I hate in DC, Ultrabar, I was lookin' right at you. Part of me feels like I should show some support for my people. By my people, I mean Persians. The last time that I was here, Ultrabar appeared to be managed, if not owned, by Persians. You know, too much cologne, highly flammable quantities of hair gel, and tight black shirts. Maybe a chain. Persians. But I just prefer to distance myself from anyone wearing a clear earpiece and doing face control at 9th and F, NW in Washington, DC. Please. You and me both know there are not nearly enough people either inside or in this fake line to make this nonsense necessary. Sure, I have definitely had some fun times here. Twice were birthday parties where there were large groups of people I knew (and they could push the sketchy dudes away from the group). The other time was when they did a Black and White Persian night (men in black, women in white), and a whole floor was devoted to a Persian DJ. On the whole, though, I say, "pptlhlllbbbbbbbbbbbbb." Went here for my best friends birthday after-dinner dancing. First of all, the line for this club is absolutely ridiculous! prepare for a long wait unless you were smart enough to put yourself on a guest list! Inside it is quite large, 4 floors and great ambiance with dark blue and crystal lighting everywhere. I especially appreciated the music, very good DJ that night and all the current/old songs they were spinning were great remixes! There is a big problem of how crowded the first floor is. When I say you can't move one step in any direction I mean it! We were getting pushed and pulled and the obnoxious men here had no consideration that the ladies couldn't push them to move somewhere and I saw quite a few of them laugh at that, ugh. my advice, find a niche and stay there and don't bother going to the bar to get a drink after you have found your niche, you wont be back for another half hour! Waited in line on my 21st birthday, just to be turned around around because someone in my group didn't have the proper footwear. one of the bouncers under his breath said, "there's too many 'big' people in the club already". didn't believe that's what was said at first until i looked back and saw that people who were under dressed with the actual wrong food wear were being let in. Definitely a destination club. The line was awfully long but apparently you can print out cut the line/reduced admission passes from the club's website. The next time I go I'm DEFINITELY doing that. Pros: 4 floors with all different music. The crowd was definitely out to get blasted and have a great time doing it. Decent priced drinks. They bring DJs from outside of DC so you don't get that douchey local cool-guy vibe that you get in a lot of clubs in DC. It was nice seeing artists that spin in Vegas and NY down in DC. The basement had a ton of nooks and lounge areas to escape and just chill. Cons: Some bouncers smiled, some were dicks. The main floor was crazy packed and sort of narrow, but we were able to find some hidden bars in the mezzanine and the basement. But still, walking through the main dancefloor was hellish. The Latin room was a little weird and some of the guys seemed more interested in staring us down than dancing with girls. But hey, that's 1 floor out of 4 so w/e. I'm sure if I liked reggaeton and couples dancing i would have enjoyed it. If I owned the club I'd try and reposition that main floor. All in all, I gave the place 4/5 stars. this is the first bar i went to in dc after a long hiatus, (i've been living in LA for 2 years , but before that was a resident of NOVA) now i'm not comparing my experiences to anything in hollywood, but more against my clubbing days in DC. ultra bar is a really pretty place. it's small, and has three floors (well sorta, the bottom floor is more like a fancied up hallway to the bathrooms, and the top floor is more like a balcony over looking half of the main one). there's two mirrored stages and one long bar on the main floor. (didn't go upstairs) music playing was your typical top 40's this place is hot and the crowd is so not. and sorry, when i mean hot, i mean A/C needed at every corner of the room. now don't get me wrong, I went out here with a pack of 10 girls and 5 guys and we ended up having an awesome time; we ordered bottle service for the group which allowed us to pass the line (and at midnight the regular line was NOT moving) and have the VIP section right next to the bar. having the little velvet rope was the only thing that saved us from drowning on the dance floor in the sea of men. really, the ratio was completely off this night! there's two things i remember DC nightlife to be strict on, shoes on guys(dresscode) and how many girls they have with them. there really had to be at least 4 to one guy to girl ratio in this place. and not only that, this place is 18 and up, so why did so many dudes look like they were 30-40? between dances, the girls and i would look around and TRY to spot the other girls. and one thing i will compare to LA is that the douchbags (http://tinyurl.com/n9sskz) are still pretty darn rampant. in any case, we went out in search of somewhere we could dance, and dance we did. so i still left happy. =) read more

I was visiting my cousin and I'm under 21 so she took me to this club and honestly we had fun. The club is not ratchet or ghetto. It has 4 levels with different music and it seems like each ethnicity had their own level so you must find a corner for you. Only thing is the wait to go in can be very long as the line was long. Also I washed my hands and my x's came off and they took me outside to get them back on like why ant you just carry around a marker or what's not because I didn't even have one sip. It's ridiculous. Kinda small venue, a little awkward because it is long and not wide, and kinda expensive drinks, hard to move. Only came for Glow events but since those have moved to Soundcheck will be relocating there. Light and sound system are decent.
