A rooftop is always worth the treck (up several flights of stairs) but make sure you're full and hydrated because the drinks are way overpriced and, well, it's a long way back down for sustenance. This spot has lots of potential. I like the place's vibe and ambiance. I came on a Saturday night and it happen to be 18 and over night. Needless to say, there were more kids in here, with X's on their hand, than in Chuck E. Cheese. That must have had secruity issues in teh past because they wand everyone and then they also pat them down prior to them being allowed in. I would think that energy should be directed towards getting a ID machine that most bars have to detect fake IDs. The place has 4 levels of bars/dancing, 3 of which were open during my visit. The drinks are small and way over priced. And be aware that the tip is already included on your tab. The place is decorated with a bunch of neon lights and the music that they had playing was on point. The DJs were hot fire. The main level bar has televisions to watch. They had Thursday night football playing when I was there. I will warn you there are a lot of steps to get to the top level/patio. Be prepared to get your workout in. I fell sorry for an intoxicated person trying to make it down the stairs. The top level is enclosed with a partially covered roof. It is open air, so I am not sure it is open in cold or inclement weather. Each level has VIP areas that you can get with bottle service. I highly recommend getting on the VIP list prior to coming here. That gets you free admission and a watered down drink of your choice. Don't get me wrong this is a decent bar with lots of potential. all the young kids just was not my scene. The prices of the drinks could also be a little more reasonable as well. The reality is they sell free tickets online and then force you to pay a $20 cover at the door. Inside you will find a mix of uninteresting, unfun and unfriendly people - with extremely proactive security, trying to protect unoccupied "VIP" areas. The staff and security team seemed determined to make sure that you do not enjoy yourself or have a good time. EXTREMELY OVERPRICED DRINKS. They also include gratuity on all bills, then try to trick you into tipping a second time on top of it Overall sucks not worth the money, bad vibes. Sadly, last night was our last time at decades. I think the bartenders were all in a competition to see how much they could screw you on drinks. I ordered 3 jager bombs- and the bartender divided one can of Red Bull amongst three glasses. There was barely a mouthful. We also ordered lemon drops and though we were charged for five vodka shots, there was no vodka to be found in there. The mixed drinks were much of the same. On top of that, there were "service fees" and 20% already added to each bill. There's no need to return- with a minimum of 15 (more like 18-20) bucks a drink for essentially a mocktail, I'll go somewhere else. Side note- there's no more coat check, and thirty seconds after you put your coat down somewhere security comes sprinting over to remove it. read more

This club was ok. Not worth the $20 dollar cover, but you can get on the VIP list for free entry. There weren't enough people there the 2 times I've been to fill up the floors. There are multiple floors inside and the rooftop but the rooftop was close for an event the second time we went. Despite the club not being completely full, the staff still walked around carelessly with a mop throughout the dance floor and their mop touched my leg which was gross. The floors were still very sticky so clearly the mop didn't do much. read more

After paying a significant amount of money, not purchasing any drinks, and dancing (without drinks) for 1.5 hours, one of my party (and subsequently the rest of us) were directed out (down 3 flights of stairs) for "not being sober". One security personnel, with AirPods in his ears, directed us out on one of our birthdays without any reason or verification. I hope that decades adopts a sobriety test that accurately reflects what it looks like to be drunk. Until then, don't go there if you have an uncoordinated friend or a friend with motor disabilities since they will not take your "deceit". However, the redhead security guard with a beard is an angel and kept an eye on the women's bathroom so no creeps could get in. Thank you redhead man, I wish I could thank you in person. read more

I've been here 4 times now (3 post quarantine) and have to say my favorite level is the rooftop because they play the best music (lots of edm!)! On one visit, i heard Swedish House Mafia, Above and Beyond, Krewella, etc, and of course they included top 40 pop songs but remixed into edm. on my second visit, i had a hookah with friends. i also came with bleeding heels so one of the bartenders (blonde girl) gave me some bandaids. the other floors feature hip hop (current and older songs), pop including older songs, etc. read more

I like the lights and vibe here a lot, but I wish there was a bugger dance floor. I love this place. Its definitely a hidden gem. Anyone could spend all night in this place because there are so many different options for music. Each level represents a different decade of music. We had a really good time re-living some old hits and working our way up the different levels. We didnt even reach the top level but we had a blast. Looking forward to coming back. read more

My friends and I went up to show Ids to get in. The bouncer looks at my ID and says it's fake. I say no it's not. He then proceeds to say "yes it is it isn't supposed to bend like this" AND SNAPS BY ID IN HALF. I was born in October 2003 and am 21. I freaked out at him and he threatened to call the cops. At that point I left (although I should have let him call the cops so he would be in trouble) and talked to another bouncer who gave me my ID after I showed him my legal passport. I now have a cracked ID and have to pay to get one shipped to me. I also have left 2 voicemails to Decades and none have been answered. I will never ever go back because of this bouncer on a power trip who accused me of having a fake Id and broke my real one. read more

I went for my cousins bachelorette party and when one of the managers (i forgot his name, i'm so sorry) saw that she was wearing a veil, let us in without having to pay the cover and even gave her a card for a free drink. He also checked up on us throughout the night and got some creepy old man away from me when he wouldn't leave. When we got really warm, one of the staff let us stand by an open door to catch our breath and watched us to make sure we were safe. We went on Friday and Saturday night and the staff remembered us despite it being very busy and held nice conversations with us while in line. My friends and I decided to get table here for my birthday on a super packed and busy Saturday night. Price was very reasonable compared to other cities at roughly $1k for 10-12 people on the roof. Music was pretty lit and it was so nice to be able to cool down at our table since it was outdoors. Going to the other floors was OK, but kind of crazy because the stairs are super narrow, floors are packed, and there are security guys everywhere. Unfortunately I did have one bad experience in which we decided to check out some of the other floors, but couldn't go back up even though we were VIP. We had to get someone else that worked there to tell the security guy to let us through which was a pain. I would highly recommend if your party is large that you get table so that you don't have to deal with the chaos. You're probably gonna pay for drinks anyways so might as well get the elevated experience. read more

Decades has to be the most lit club in Dupont Circle area. I have never had a bad time here. The staff are outstanding, and I always feel safe knowing that there are bouncers everywhere watching over the crowd. This is the type of place you want to show up not needing to purchase many more drinks- if you know what I mean - because they are expensive, and it can be a long wait. However, the ambiance here makes the long wait worth it. Yes, its a $20 cover which is what kept me away for a while, I was reluctant to try this place as there are other fun free options nearby. But Decades far exceeds them. The theming is fantastic, and you can never get bored because all the floors have their own vibe so if one is not as fun you can hop around. I am partial to the second floor but they all can be fun. My friend had an accident where his drink got spilled by a drunk person and a staff member saw and promptly got him a new one free of cost. The customer service is on point here and they take care of their people! Yes, there is a cover but it's the price you pay for amazing DJS, Bouncers, and bartenders. I wasn't impressed by coming here, but I did come here because my friends wanted to have a night out where we could get a little loose and enjoy ourselves. From how this was described to me I thought that it would be a great fit to do so. Well, in my mind, I was wrong. No one informed the amount of steps it was to get up to the rooftop where it is located. I felt lost just ascending to the bar. I felt like I needed to take a minute once I got to the top and catch my breath. It wasn't crowded, which was nice, but I'm not sure why it felt empty at the same time. I found myself becoming a wallflower as soon as I caught my breath. I wasn't quite in the mood for a drink just yet, so I was just taking it all in. The staff here seem a little abrasive. Especially the security people, or at least I think they were security. They just lumbered around the space with a permanent scowl on their face. Drinks here are excessively high. When you compare to the size you are getting, the price is just a bit unrealistic. I wasn't having that and made my way back down the length of the building and onto the next stop. read more

Then the white women's friend meets her at the bar. We're still waiting and bout another 5 mins passes before the bartender approaches where we're standing. What does he do? He looks at the two white women to take their order and doesnt even give me a glance. I was waiting to see what the women were going to do. Would they just get their drinks or acknowledge that I was there first before them... They actually told the bartender I was there first and the bartender didnt care, he proceeded to still take their order! Wow unbelievable behavior! They do not hire Black bartenders either but love to take money from whoever throws a Black event there but with utter disrespect. I'm not that stupid and would never throw an event there. My first time going! I went with 3 of my friends and we had a girls night. There are 3 floors, one with a different theme for each. I love the theme idea! But I do not recommend wearing heels here!! You're going to want to check out each floor a few times, so you are going to go up and down stairs quite a lot, getting your workout on lol. I wasn't surprised by the prices because it's DC, but 1 shot of tequila ended up being $16 with tax- big yikes! I'd prefer to drink at another bar and come just for dancing. Employees are very nice and security did a good job of making sure everyone was safe coming in. Our night was one for the books that's for sure, but not in a good way. We had a laundry list of things that went down that made the experience stressful and not very enjoyable, starting with getting into the club. Our friend had already paid cash to the bouncer, but once he got inside, they accused him of not paying and demanded he give out his credit card to pay with the credit card person inside. They kept badgering him until more of our group got involved and told them off. They definitely targeted someone who looked like an easy target just to scam them for more money. Slimey!! Drinks here are expensive as well, and not worth it. Everything is dirty and cramped, the bathrooms are disgusting, and stairways crowded and confusing. It takes forever to get from one floor to another, and people are pushy. The crowd here is aggressive. One person threatened to fight our friend after she wouldn't go into the bathroom marked for 'Guys Only,' on the 5th floor, even when she told him he could go into that one before her. People wanted to start fights for no reason - not sure if this is just an East Coast thing, but being from the West Coast, people aren't as rude here. I'm only giving one-star because the music was pretty good on each floor - lots of songs to sing along or get down to. Would not come again. read more

I wouldn't say it's LGBTQ friendly - I didn't see one Pride flag. I went here with a group of friends and it was okay enough but I wouldn't go back. The place looked cool, my friends and I came to have a good time. But to be racially profiled is still a crazy concept and unbelievable but still happening in this world. Of course after paying so much money for drinks, you would think you were allowed to have a good time. My friend said he wasn't feeling good after something he ate, so he went into the bathroom to wash his face and tried to calm his stomach. At that point of the night, he had only had three drinks spaced out obviously not all at once. He said while he was in the bathroom, some guys were bothering him, they were annoyed that he was just standing there and not using the bathroom, (he was standing by the sink) so they went out and called Security and he got kicked out for no reason. I went to Decades last month because one of my roommates for the summer is apparently a regular here, and she invited us all with a VIP pass for Flashback Fridays, where we got in for free until 11:30 pm on Friday nights. Pretty good deal I'll admit as you usually have to pay in order to go in. The concept of the club is pretty cool, where the floors play different types of music, but the real downside is that the service was slow as it gets packed once you're inside. There was also a huge line outside, and they apparently don't want you to have your jacket on as you either need to ditch it at home or wrap it around your waist, and the bouncers on each floor tend to be a bit high-strung, especially when you're standing too close to the edge or if you need to sit down somewhere. You can get food in here, but I recommend eating before coming in as their stuff is really expensive. I won't be back, but the staff is trying their best. read more

A friend suggested a meet up at the new Y2K pop Up located on the second floor. Once we arrived floor one had zero signage letting us know where to go. We actually had to pull up an interview online to find out where to go. Once up the stairs it was very clear we were transported back to Y2K. There was Lisa Frank, Pokémon, game boys, hit clips... literally everything you could want. On a Thursday at 6:45pm the place was basically empty. One table was there when we arrived and one arrived shortly after. I was super grateful that there's was basically no one because it meant I could see everything up close. There are about six themes drinks for $12-17 but also wine and beer for cheaper. I went with an Angry Orchard Sind wit was half the price of a mixed drink. We also orders the fried pickles which were so amazing! I would return just for them. The breading was spot on and the parmesan ranch was awesome. The menu was large and we probably would've had dinner too if &pizza wasn't next door. Overall I had a good time and it brought back a lot of memories. My complaints: the music started off as 90's but suddenly turned to today's top 40. The bartenders were great but on their phone the entire time. (Since it was so slow I didn't mind but it should be noted.) local sports were being played which was a downer because 90's showers were awesome. Overall check it out. I don't know why it has poor reviews but if you're looking for a drink in a cool place this will do it. read more
