    Hanging out at the bar

Growing up around Caribbean folks, I loved going to places that played soca, dancehall, and reggae. I've been looking for a place in DC where I can enjoy music and feel like I was back in my neighborhood. My review is for my experience on a Friday night after 10. My girlfriend celebrated part 2 of her birthday there so I got the opportunity to visit for the first time! We arrived a little before 1030pm on Friday night. The bouncers were very nice. We were able to get seats at the bar and on the wall as it hadn't started to fill up. HoneyMo is gorgeous and was our bartender. I got two rum punches and they were good. The second one was strong! I really enjoyed. The music was really good and I heard music that i haven't heard in a while. I can't wait to come back again !

I was not impressed. Drinks were basic and not cheap. Men were below average....and the women weren't that far behind them. My friend spent the entire time having this old 50 yrs old guy harassing her and several others had bad breath. Not sure what that was all about. The DJ played a few good ones in between all the ones that weren't worth dancing to. Would have loved to hear more afrobeats too. I had high hopes and I'm afraid I let down my friend who was looking forward to a good night.

This is the amazing rum punch - have 2!

Second time and it won't be my last time! If you love good music, dancehall style and great drinks on a crowded dance floor - you will love this spot. Free before 11:00, nice crowd (a little young ) but very nice people just having fun. Once it gets packed it's whining room only. Enjoy ...

    It's really dark inside.

I went to this small Caribbean themed bar with a friend. It's one of the downstairs bars in the trendy strip in Adams Morgan. I did like their mango martini, it was delicious. Although, I was expecting rum at a Caribbean place to be in one of their specials though? Also no food, except some patties, so eat before you come. When I went everyone was on the wall not dancing? Maybe it was the people or the music? Don't get me wrong I liked the music, you can't go wrong with reggae. BUT, if you want people to dance (and what I was expecting) put some dancehall on and I guarantee at least Jamaican people will get up and show you how to wine right!

I normally find it against everything I believe in to pay a coverage charge at any Adams Morgan establishment as most aren't cover charge worthy but I have to admit Timehri did not make me regret pulling out my cash. This is a great place if you want to go out, dance to some hip hop but mainly reggae and just have a good time. The place is a small little dungeon but with enough space for you to move about a bit. Best thing about it are people are here to dance and have fun, you don't have 1000 people too cute to dance or standing against the wall holding it up, people are dancing, moving and grooving and enjoying themselves, that always adds to my fun when in any establishment. Drinks were my only concern, prices were decent, four drinks were less than 40 dollars but they give you baby cups, they could definitely be bigger with that said the bartender puts a nice amount of alcohol in that small cup, I had a vodka and cranberry that was damn near clear so I couldn't complain too much. If you're a fan of reggae and don't mind going into the dark dungeon to enjoy it, then make that move to Timehri, it will be worth the cover.

Just returned from holidays in T&T and was looking for an authentic soca/dancehall/reggae experience in DC. Based on Yelp reviews we picked Timehri. They were playing all those catchy reggae-influenced pop songs (by Magic!, Twenty-One pilots, Sia, etc) when we arrived. The DJ caught me off guard when he switched to Destra on the Set Good riddim. At the end of the night he brought the house down with Shabba Madda Pot. I got my authentic experience, no doubt. The DJ is very talented. Drinks here are powerful, not watered down in the least. Patrons were friendly, laidback people who love to dance. The dance floor is small, which made it intimate and unintimidating. Will be going back often.

Does this place have a mixed crowd when it comes to age?...20s..30s..40s..50s?

    Yes I don't think there's anyone over 35 -40 tho lol

Does this place have VIP/bottle service? I want to come here for my birthday party. If not, can anyone recommend a place with similar vibe with bottle service?

It's too small for tables. I know I've seen people holding bottles but they don't really have a lot of seating. I think they have one booth.

Is African Music played? or only Caribbean?

    Both

    Do they id?

    Yes of course!😅

Are saturdays a good night to go for live music?

They don't have live music there.. Just a dj now across the street at Bukoms they have a live reggae band and yes it pops on Saturday's

Happy hour (3-7) offers beers ranging $1-3, wine $4-6, $7 margs, and I think a few other drink specials, but those options were good enough for me and I went with the wine. Service was a little slow at first, but the one bartender working was friendly and cheerful and doing her best to keep up with everyone until another two eventually showed up or came back from break. Atmosphere was really chill. I liked the dim lighting, everyone was casual and relaxed with a dj setting up in the corner, some hip hop and classic 00s rap bumping, and a steady flow of young-ish friend groups coming in for cheap beer around 5pm. I tried not to evesdrop on the couple next to me at the bar arguing, but their fight sort of added to the entertainment and general vibe. This is such a perfect spot for either a date night or a fun night out with friends. The speakeasy vibe, the chic atmosphere, and the music (a smooth, chill house mix) all come together so effortlessly. Plus, being open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays is a huge bonus. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time - this place stays busy for a reason. From my previous visit, I remember having a ravioli dish, what I believe was a braised beef, and their sliders with duck fat fries - all of which were incredible and clearly memorable since I was thinking about them for months. The sliders paired with those fries were honestly a standout. This time around, we had to get the duck fat fries again, and they were just as phenomenal as I remembered. The cheesesteak oysters were easily a 10/10 - fresh, meaty, and honestly surprising coming from someone who used to not even like oysters. We also tried the grilled octopus, which was well-seasoned (as expected, slightly chewy), and the fried calamari, which was light, not heavy at all, and paired perfectly with the sauces. The tuna tartare was another standout - super fresh, soft, and practically melted in your mouth. For drinks, we went all in. The Dirty Diamond martini with blue cheese olives was great, though if you like your martinis extra filthy, I'd recommend specifying that. The Hemingway Special had a nice subtle sour kick, and the vanilla mint espresso martini was strong (you can definitely taste the alcohol) but still smooth and frothy. The Mary Pickford with Malibu was surprisingly delicious - almost like a mocktail. The Paloma was solid, and the Code Red cocktail gave me slight cosmopolitan vibes. But the real star was the dulce de leche espresso martini--absolutely unforgettable. What really ties everything together here is the service. The staff - from the hosts to the servers - are attentive, welcoming, and genuinely elevate the experience. Overall, Code Red is one of those places you keep coming back to. If you're looking for a stylish speakeasy atmosphere with great food, drinks, and energy, this is it.

And if you know DC, then you know rooftops are not rare. They are everywhere. So the real question becomes: what exactly makes your rooftop worth it? Because let me tell you--VUE Rooftop is not it. Now, I will give credit where it is due. The atmosphere was nice. It was busy (expected), crowded (also expected), but oddly... no music. No available seating. Again, not shocking for a day like that. Fine. I make my way to the bar. I order a vodka water. Let me be very clear--a Tito's and water. H2O. Not infused. Not blessed. Not life-changing. The bartender was actually great--friendly, accommodating, even went to the kitchen to grab cucumber for me. No complaints there. When he asked if I wanted to start a tab, I did what any rational adult does--I asked for the price first. He smiles politely and says, "With taxes and service charge, that'll be $33." I'm sorry... what? Please refer to the picture I posted because I need witnesses. Thirty-three dollars. For a 6 oz drink. Y'all, I wanted to cuss so bad, but I also wanted Yelp to keep this review up--so just imagine the words I'm choosing not to type. Absolutely not. NO. SIR. Close my tab immediately. I turn to my friends to share this nonsense, and my friend casually says, "I just paid $130 for three shots and a vodka tonic." At that point, we were not just shocked--we were offended. There is nothing--nothing--about this place that justifies those prices except the fact that it sits dead center in tourist territory. And they know it. And they are banking on it. Shame on them. Do yourself a favor: keep your coins. There are plenty of rooftops in DC with better vibes, actual music, available seating, and drinks that do not require a small financial commitment. This one? Hard pass.
