I had a good time at this club. It's a good spot to go dancing, drink, and hang out with friends. I also liked the way the place was decorated.

Came in on a Monday. The security made it seem like it was popping. So we went in. It was dead. Maybe 6 people there and then a few people rotated in and out. There's two different sections of the place which is upstairs and you have to climb about 30 steps. The first part has seats, a small dance stage, and a bar. It is separated by a small hallway that has bathrooms. In the second room, there is a roped off section with 10ish tables with hookah. There is a bar, another small dance floor and the DJ. The security were lowkey rude. Didn't care for them. The front door lady was chill. The bartenders were mostly just on their phone and had to wave them down to get a drink. The drinks were strong but small. It's cute inside. There's a glass ceiling with hanging (fake?) plants which adds to the ambiance. The strobing lights is a bit much but makes the dance floor more fun. Been here a couple of times before but sorta over it and I think this might be the last time I come thru.

Only lightskin women. Nobody of any darker complexion.

PLENTY OF REASONS FOR YOU TO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE: I wanted to celebrate my birthday by visiting a club. Walking by this place around 10pm, I figured this was a place to visit due to the line and music heard from outside. While standing in line to get in, I saw a group of women trying to pay by card to get in. The rude young woman who worked there said to them "yall just said y'all wanted to pay with cash, now you switching it to card?" She rolled her eyes and walked away. A few seconds later the male security guard, with an attitude, said they are not able to enter the establishment any longer. While I was inside the establishment, the floor was dirty and sticky, the servers and bartenders take their sweet time with bringing your card and drink back to the table. They would rather spend time taking videos for Instagram and twerking than being proactive. Also, money is not a problem for me but a $65 shot of Don Julio is insane. During the night, they presented a sign that said "2 bottles, 20 N**gas." IT DOES NOT GET MORE UNPROFESSIONAL THAN THAT. That is textbook unprofessionalism. Can people enjoy their time out without being accosted and shamed because they wanna spend what THEY want to spend? Also, I just went and saw a picture on their Instagram and it appears this place is blatant colorist towards women as well. They only hire bottle girls that are racially ambiguous women who are "white-passing" or lightskin. Why aren't any women of darker complexion hired or being promoted on your flyers and establishment? This is NOT the best place in DC to go clubbing. Not even in the top 10. NOT the best on Connecticut Ave. NOT a place to be if you are trying to enjoy a night out, unless you like being overcharged and rude staff. The owner(s), staff, and promotors need to take a class on how to run a business properly because this AINT IT! Do better. Below are the pictures I got and you can take this and make your own opinions.

    Alexis H.

Ambience is decent & nice. Music & energy was a vibe. Staff was NOT on same page. Favored to certain groups of individuals. Owner was rude. My party had questions due to staff telling everyone something different. Owner did NOT present himself kindly. I honestly would NOT willingly go back unless begged by for a friend bday or special event. Personally any owner of an establishment I believe should be more respectful any circumstance & take pride on staff being all on one accord.

Bottle girls who pass the paper bag test. This, I want to emphasize has nothing to do with these lovely ladies, but management.

I have a question more so than a review. To review briefly, this is not even one of the best lounges on Connecticut Ave not to mention NW. The floor was dirty 2 of the 3 times I was there and it is mostly empty -which forced us to go party across the street. The drinks prices are obscene but that's every club/lounge on Connecticut and they charge you an automatic 18% gratuity fee. Now back to my question. I have noticed they favor a certain clientele, especially when it comes to women. Which was triggered right now when I just saw their post on IG promoting their bottle girls. There is not a single bottle girl in their employment who would not pass the paper bag test. Not ONE. And anyone on the darker spectrum gets placed in the back. Why?? Management should really review their entire business/hiring practice as it ends up trickling down to their customers.

Service was a little slow at first, but the one bartender working was friendly and cheerful and doing her best to keep up with everyone until another two eventually showed up or came back from break. Atmosphere was really chill. I liked the dim lighting, everyone was casual and relaxed with a dj setting up in the corner, some hip hop and classic 00s rap bumping, and a steady flow of young-ish friend groups coming in for cheap beer around 5pm. I tried not to evesdrop on the couple next to me at the bar arguing, but their fight sort of added to the entertainment and general vibe. This is such a perfect spot for either a date night or a fun night out with friends. The speakeasy vibe, the chic atmosphere, and the music (a smooth, chill house mix) all come together so effortlessly. Plus, being open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays is a huge bonus. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time - this place stays busy for a reason. From my previous visit, I remember having a ravioli dish, what I believe was a braised beef, and their sliders with duck fat fries - all of which were incredible and clearly memorable since I was thinking about them for months. The sliders paired with those fries were honestly a standout. This time around, we had to get the duck fat fries again, and they were just as phenomenal as I remembered. The cheesesteak oysters were easily a 10/10 - fresh, meaty, and honestly surprising coming from someone who used to not even like oysters. We also tried the grilled octopus, which was well-seasoned (as expected, slightly chewy), and the fried calamari, which was light, not heavy at all, and paired perfectly with the sauces. The tuna tartare was another standout - super fresh, soft, and practically melted in your mouth. For drinks, we went all in. The Dirty Diamond martini with blue cheese olives was great, though if you like your martinis extra filthy, I'd recommend specifying that. The Hemingway Special had a nice subtle sour kick, and the vanilla mint espresso martini was strong (you can definitely taste the alcohol) but still smooth and frothy. The Mary Pickford with Malibu was surprisingly delicious - almost like a mocktail. The Paloma was solid, and the Code Red cocktail gave me slight cosmopolitan vibes. But the real star was the dulce de leche espresso martini--absolutely unforgettable. What really ties everything together here is the service. The staff - from the hosts to the servers - are attentive, welcoming, and genuinely elevate the experience. Overall, Code Red is one of those places you keep coming back to. If you're looking for a stylish speakeasy atmosphere with great food, drinks, and energy, this is it.

And if you know DC, then you know rooftops are not rare. They are everywhere. So the real question becomes: what exactly makes your rooftop worth it? Because let me tell you--VUE Rooftop is not it. Now, I will give credit where it is due. The atmosphere was nice. It was busy (expected), crowded (also expected), but oddly... no music. No available seating. Again, not shocking for a day like that. Fine. I make my way to the bar. I order a vodka water. Let me be very clear--a Tito's and water. H2O. Not infused. Not blessed. Not life-changing. The bartender was actually great--friendly, accommodating, even went to the kitchen to grab cucumber for me. No complaints there. When he asked if I wanted to start a tab, I did what any rational adult does--I asked for the price first. He smiles politely and says, "With taxes and service charge, that'll be $33." I'm sorry... what? Please refer to the picture I posted because I need witnesses. Thirty-three dollars. For a 6 oz drink. Y'all, I wanted to cuss so bad, but I also wanted Yelp to keep this review up--so just imagine the words I'm choosing not to type. Absolutely not. NO. SIR. Close my tab immediately. I turn to my friends to share this nonsense, and my friend casually says, "I just paid $130 for three shots and a vodka tonic." At that point, we were not just shocked--we were offended. There is nothing--nothing--about this place that justifies those prices except the fact that it sits dead center in tourist territory. And they know it. And they are banking on it. Shame on them. Do yourself a favor: keep your coins. There are plenty of rooftops in DC with better vibes, actual music, available seating, and drinks that do not require a small financial commitment. This one? Hard pass.
